英语人名的起源及翻译（摘要）
我们非常熟悉这些人名：Roosevelt，Elizabeth，如果它们被翻译成“罗斯韦尔”和“伊丽莎白斯”，大多数人可能就不知道它们是什么了，因为它们通常被翻译成“罗斯福”，“伊丽莎白”。这种现象表明，我们在翻译英语人名时要遵循一定的规律，这些规律会影响读者对文章原始信息的理解。如果我们没有掌握并恰当地使用这些规律，在翻译时就会出现一些问题甚至会引起一些误解。
一、使用约定俗成的翻译版本
一些英语人名的翻译版本是约定俗成的，它们已为大多数的中国人所接受。例如，“Smith”音泽应为“史密斯”，但“Adam Smith”这个政治经济学家的中国版本的名字往往是“亚当·斯密”；西班牙传奇故事中的花花公子“Don Juan”被翻译成“唐·璜”而不是“唐·故安”(尽管我们最好是把其他名为“Don Juan”的人叫做“唐·故安”)；“Behtune”音译为“贝修恩”，但我们把敬爱的加拿大医生“Norman Bethune”叫做“诺尔曼．白求恩”。[1]这些改变仍然被今天的出版物所使用。事实上．在翻译的过程中这些翻译版本已被广泛地使用，因此我们在翻译时必须按照这些约定俗成的版本进行翻译。
二、英语人名的音译
如果翻译是把一种不同的语言变成我们自己的语言．那么音译就是根据其原始语言中单词的发音，把它翻译成与其发音接近的汉字。在大多数情况下，人名的翻译往往使用音译的方法。，1．英语人名中姓氏的音译。
(1)英语姓氏和汉语姓氏一样多种多样。它们中有一些取自于地名，例如“London”(伦敦)：也有～些来自于动物或植物的名字，例如“Lamb”(羔羊)、“Wood”(木头)；还有一小部分英语姓氏来自于颜色的名称，像“Lamb”、“Black”、“Hill”这样的姓氏一直以来都被译成“拉姆”、“布莱克”和“希尔”．从没有人把它们译成“羔羊”、“黑色”和“小山”。[2]
(2)像我们国家的女孩一样．英国女孩的姓氏也通常来自于父亲，但是结婚之后，她们就要冠以夫姓。因此，CleghoITIStevenson／b姐在嫁给Willam Gaskell以后就会被称为Clegh0111 Gaskell太太。
(3)英语中的复姓与我们的“诸葛”或者“夏侯”不同。我们的复姓是不可以拆分的，而英语中的复姓是由两个不同的姓氏组合在一起的。例如，“Edward Bume·Jones”(爱德华·伯纳·琼斯)，19世纪英国的一位画家，他的姓氏就是将他母亲的姓“Bume”和他父亲的姓“Jones”结合在一起的。
2．英语人名的整体音译。
英语中的人名通常要进行整体音译，这样我们就能将“Benjamin Franklin”(美国哲学家、政客．1706—1790)与“．10hnFranklin”(英国的北极探险家，1786一1874)很好地区别开。前218者被音译为“本杰明·富兰克林”。而后者则是“约翰·富兰克林”。
3．缩写形式的音译。
如果在英语人名中出现单独的大写字母。我们不能按照大写字母的发音进行音译。例如，“F．H．F0ak!?，如果我们只知道这种缩写形式，而不知道它的全称，就绝不能把它音译为“弗·赫·冯克”，而应把它的缩写形式保留在中文译本中。因此，“F．H．Fonk”可以被翻译为“F．H．冯克”。
4．在翻译人名时其它需要注意的地方。
(1)音节的省略。一些英语人名可能会非常长，为了使它们的译本短一些．发音时一些不太显著的音节在音译时可以被省略。例如．“Engels”应该被译成“恩格斯”而不是“恩格尔思”；“Eliza,beth”可以被音译为“伊丽莎自”，但通常不译为“伊丽莎白斯”。[33
(2)人名的音泽不可以被染以色彩或添加相关的意义。例如，在“Gone With The Wind'?里的“亚特兰大”(地名)曾被译成“饿狼陀”：还有野兽画派的先驱“Matisse”曾被徐悲鸿取了一个非常有
趣的名字“马踢死”，这些都是不正确的翻译。t4]
(3)英语中的姓氏不可以被音译为汉语姓氏，否则将会造成不必要的误会。例如，…'Tolstoy”(托尔斯泰)被音译为“陶师道”，这个名字过于中国化；而“Gogol”(果戈里)被译为“郭哥儿”就太过滑稽了。f3]
(4)英语中一些带有明显的其他民族(不以英语为母语的民族)特点的人名通常要按照它们的原始发音进行音译。例如．古罗马喜剧作家的名字“PubliusTerentius”根据通常的英语拼写被译为英语名“Terence”，但我们不能根据它的英语拼写把它音译为“泰伦斯”．而是需要根据他的拉丁语原名把它音译为“泰伦提乌斯”。【51
三、英语人名的翻译格式
翻译英语人名时要在名和姓之间加一个小圆点“·”。当有两个名的时候，这两个名的中间也要加点。我们翻译英语人名时最容易遇到两种情况。第一种情况是，当名为缩写形式而姓完整时，此时，相同的名字可以有不同的翻译格式。例如，“G．D．Kerr”可以被译为j种格式：“(1)G．D．克尔；(2)G·D·克尔；(3)G·D．·克尔”。第二种情况是，一个名为缩写形式，另一个

各个国家的公司名称翻译及缩写 SA系法语Societe Anonym、意大利语Societa Anonima和西班牙语Sociedad Anonima的简称，均译为“股份公司”。 交易国别是我国国际收支统计记录中一个重要的申报要素。在对交易对方和交易国别的核查过程中，我们发现很多国家和地区的收付款人（公司）名称中存在各式各样的表示企业类型的缩略语，比如：Co.Ltd、Corp.、S.A.、GmbH和BHD SDN等。经过调查，我们发现上述现象存在的主要原因主要是：（1）各国语言文字不同，同一词汇在不同的国家具有不同的称谓，比如，“公司”在英语里一般简称Co.、Inc.或Corp.，在瑞典语里的简称则是AB；（2）各国法律制度和使用习惯存在差异，导致一些国家和地区的企业名称比较独特，比如，新加坡法律规定私人企业名称中必须出现Pte.字样，而其他国家则绝少有此现象。由于有的缩略语为某个国家独有，有的则是同一语种国家和地区所共有。因此，我们能通过交易对方中的缩略语来排除掉或推定出某一笔国际收支交易的国别。 有鉴于此，我们以近两年全国部分地区的近20万条国际收支统计交易记录为索引，对我国主要贸易伙伴国的《公司法》、《投资法》进行了查阅和研究，梳理出许多在国际收支统计信息中出现频率较高、可用于国际收支交易国别判断的交易对方缩略语，现列举和剖译如下： 一、SDN BHD与马来西亚的关系 SDN系马来西亚语Sendirian的缩写，意即“私人”。BHD系Berhad的缩写，意为“公司”。 SDN BHD是指“私人有限公司”，单BHD一般指“公众有限公司”。 在马来西亚，企业一般注册为个人企业、合伙人企业或私人有限公司，其中以SDN BHD私人有限公司最为常见。如： CSP CORPORATION M ALAYSIABHD UNITED MS ELECTRICAL MFG(M) SDN BHD 除新加坡、文莱（马来语是两国正式语言）企业名称偶尔出现SDN BHD外，其他国家企业名称基本上没有SDN BHD字样，因此，如果交易对方中出现SDN BHD，而交易国别不是马来西亚，则基本上可认定交易国别有误。 二、GmbH是德语区国家除德国外还有奥地利、列支敦士登、瑞士、比利时和卢森堡 GmbH系德文Gesellschaft Mit Beschrankter Haftung的缩写，等于英文中的Limited liability company，即“有限责任公司”。 有限责任公司为介于大型股份公司与小型合伙企业之间的企业形态，为目前德国采用最为广泛的企业形式。如： B.TEAM EDV.EDITION B.BREIDENSTEIN GMBH（德国） MESSE FRANKFURT MEDJEN UND SERVICE GMBH（德国） 此类公司形式主要是德语区存在，除德国外，将德语作为母语之一的还有奥地利、列支敦士登、瑞士、比利时和卢森堡，上述国家企业名称中都有可能出现GmbH。如：Hutchison 3G Austria GmbH即为地址在维也纳的奥地利企业。 因此，绝不可将交易对方中出现GMBH的交易记录一概认为是德国的。 三、AG（德国和瑞士）、S.A.（南欧、南美）
