For every parent who ever wondered what the heck their teens were thinking when they posted risky1 information or pictures on social media, a team of Penn State researchers suggests that they were not really thinking at all, or at least were not

thinking like most adults do. In a study, the researchers report that the way teens learn how to manage privacy risk online is much different than how adults approach privacy management. While most adults think first and then ask questions, teens tend to take the risk and then seek help, said Haiyan Jia, post-doctoral scholar in information sciences and technology.

"Adults often find this very difficult to understand and paradoxical because they are so used to considering possible risks of disclosing information online first and then taking the necessary precautions, based on those concerns," said Jia. "What our model suggests is that teens don't think this way -- they disclose and then evaluate the consequences. The process is more experiential in nature for teens."

This disclose-first-and-then-make-corrections model may lend insight into what researchers refer to as the privacy paradox2, according to Pamela Wisniewski, a post-doctoral scholar in information sciences and technology, who worked with Jia.

Wisniewski said that the privacy paradox suggests that there is a disconnect between the privacy concerns of teens and what information they disclose.

"For adults, the basic model is that different factors contribute to an individual's concern for his or her information privacy and based on that privacy concern the user takes certain actions, for example, disclosing less information," said Wisniewski. "This is a very rational, adult-focused model, however, that doesn't seem applicable to teens."

1. The English have the reputation of being very different from all other nationalities. It is claimed that living on an island separated from the rest of Europe has much to do with it. Whatever the reasons, it may be fairly stated that the Englishman has developed some attitudes and habits distinguishing him from other nationalities. Broadly speaking, the Englishman is a quiet, shy, and reserved person among people he knows well. Before strangers he often seems inhibited, even embarrassed. You have only to witness a railway compartment any morning or evening to see the truth. Serious-looking businessmen and women sit reading their newspapers or dozing(打盹)in a corner, and no one speaks. An English wit once suggested to overseas visitors, "On entering a railway compartment shake hands with all the passengers." Needless to say, he was not being serious. There is an unwritten but clearly understood code of behavior, which, if broken, makes the person immediately the object of suspicion. It is well known that the English seldom show openly extremes of enthusiasm, emotion etc. Of course, an Englishman feels no less than any other nationality. Imagine a man commenting on the great beauty of a young girl. A man of more emotional temperament might describe her as "a marvelous jewel", while the Englishman will flatly state "Um,

(1) Americans this year will swallow 15000 tons of aspirin, one of the safest and most effec-tive drugs invented by man. As the most popular medicine in the world today, it is an effec-tive pain reliever. Its bad effects are relatively mild, and it is cheap. Although aspirin was first sold by a German company in 1899,it has been around much longer than that. Hippocrates, in ancient Greece, understood the medical value of the leaves and tree bark which today are known to contain salicylates, the chemical in aspirin. During the 19th century there was a great deal of experimentation in Europe with this chemical, and it led to the introduction of aspirin. By 1915,aspirin tablets (片剂) were available in the United States. For millions of people suffering from arthritis, aspirin is the only thing that works. A small quantity of aspirin relieves .pain and inflammation. It also reduces fever by interfering with some of the body′s reactions. Aspirin,in short,is truly the 20th-century wonder drug. On the other hand, it is also the second largest suicide drug and is the leading cause of poi-soning among children. It has side effects that, although relatively mild, are largely unrecog-nized among users. Aspirin is very irritating to the stomach lining, and many aspirin takers complain about upset stomach. There is a right way and a wrong way to take aspirin. The best way is to chew the tablets before swallowing them with water, but few people

Which catoon and caricature influence on youth more outstanding. This paper aims to explore and discuss the influence of animation, coping strategy.

A package can sometimes motivate people to buy products. For example, a little child might ask for a breakfast food contained in a box with a picture of a TV character. The child is more interested in the picture than in breakfast food. Pictures for children to color or cut out, games printed on a package, or a small gift inside a box also motivate many children to buy products - or to ask their parents to buy for them. Some packages suggest that a buyer will get something for nothing. Food products sold in reusable containers are examples of this. Although a similar product in plain container might cost less, people often prefer to buy the product in a reusable glass or dish, because they believe the container is free. However, the cost of the container is added to the cost of the product. The size of a package also motivates a buyer. Maybe the package has “Economy Size”or “Family Size” printed on it. This suggests that the larger size has the most product for the least money. But that is not always true. To find it out, a buyer has to know how the product is sold and the price of the basic unit. The information on the package should provide some answers. But the important thing for any buyer to remember is that a package is often an advertisement. The words and pictures do not tell the whole story. Only the product inside can do that. 21.“A buyer will get something for nothing”in paragraph 2 may probably mean ________. A.a buyer will not get what he pays for B.a buyer will get more than what he pays for C.a buyer will get something useful free of charge D.a buyer will get more but pay less 答案:A 22.
