After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said, “I love you, but I know this other woman loves you too, and she would love t o spend some time with you.”
This other woman my wife wanted me to visit was my mother, who has been a widow （寡妇）for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally. That night I called to invite her to go out for a dinner and a movie.
“What’s wrong, are you well?” she asked.
“I thought that it would be pleasant to pass some time with you,” I replied. “Just the two of us.” She thought about it for a moment then said, “I would like that very much.”
That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up, I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary（周

“I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed,” she said, as she got into the car. “They can’t wait to hear about our meeting.”
We went to a nice restaurant, and my mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. When I lifted my eyes, I saw Mom sitting there looking at me.
“It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small,” she said.
“Then it’s time that you relaxed and let me return the favor,” I replied.
During the dinner, we had a happy conversation. We talked so much that we missed the movie.
A few days later my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn’t have a chance to do anything for her. At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time “I LOVE YOU” and to give our loved ones the time that they should get, because this cannot be put off until “some other time”.

Delia was a young pianist. Her husband Joe was a talented young painter. They lived in a small flat in New York.
Each of them was taking lessons –Joe with a famous art teacher, and Delia with a great pianist from Germany. They were the best teachers, so lessons were expensive, more than they could really afford, but…when you love your art, nothing’s too much.
But soon, the money began to run out and they couldn’t afford the lessons any more.
Then one day Delia came home and told Joe that she had met a man. The man’s daughter, Sally, wanted to learn the piano – and he was going to pay her $50 an hour.

Andrew Holleman a 12-year-old boy, loved playing in the open land near his home. The land was wet and forested, and made a home for the birds, other animals and many different plants.
It made the perfect place for him to study and get to know the nature. He had seen some red-tailed hawks, red foxes, wood turtles and other animals. He also found special native flowers.
Suddenly it was announced tha t the “empty” land would be improved by a lot of houses on it. The plants would be removed, the animals would run away and most would probably die. Then the wet soil would be covered with extra grounds.
When he heard about the news, he was not happy. He was very worried that the land and water would be polluted.
Andrew wrote down clearly all the research he had done about the area, and how the houses would affect(影响) the local environment. He sent letters to members of local government and television reporters. He also called on his neighbors to oppose the building of the houses.
Although he was only 12 years old, he had the courage and wisdom of a person much older. Andrew’s teachers described him as gentle, shy and active. His classmates also admired how much he knew about local animals and plants, and the environment. Each day after school, Andrew went door-to-door, to ask the people to sign(签名), who did not want the houses to be built. In only one month, he got the signatures of 250 people.
In the end, the land remained a safe place for birds, animals and plants that belonged there.
