When I was a senior student, I couldn’t understand my science teacher’s instructions, which upset me a lot. So when it comes to home-schooling our daughters, my husband volunteered to teach them science. But at that time he was too busy. I had to teach them instead.
One morning, I noticed the sky was a beautiful blue, and the air was filled with the sweet smell of flowers. I decided the lessons would be taught outside.
I got the girls ready. We headed up into the forest, setting ourselves by a pond. My elder daughter Saoirse began catching frogs, while my younger daughter Ula looked at me, waiting to be instructed. I handed her a drawing board and the colored pencils. “We wait and see if something comes along. In the meantime, just draw what’s around you. ” I told her.
Just then a bird flew across the water, and settled in front of a fallen tree. I quickly told Ula, worried that she’d not seen the creature. But she had, and she began drawing it.
An hour later, she finished her picture and I found she drew the bird on her paper with amazing accuracy (准确性). But there was one other interesting fact about this drawing: she also drew me, sitting beside her.
Staring at this child’s drawing of us watching a bird, I realized how I’d lived for 40 years, gathered 10 years of higher education, and never understood the basis of science before this moment. It is a sense of wonder; it isn’t about accurately reciting words from textbooks. It is first about stepping outside and admiring the world around us.
From that day on, it was I not my husband that acted as the science teacher.

Students from Oceanside High School in Rockland will be able to sleep in a little longer from this autumn.The director of Regional School Lew Collins said during the school's Thursday night meeting that the schedule（时间表）for the schools will be changed. Oceanside East and West will start a half hour later，at 8 a.m.for the new school year.
Research has shown that teenagers' brains are often not fully awake at 6:30 a.m. Collins said the schedule, which is used to get students to school for classes that begin at 7:30 a.m., calls for some to get on buses before 6 a.m.to get to school on time. Teachers are having meetings at 6:40 a.m., which is to early, he thinks.
Collins visited the high schools in Rockland and asked students when they would like classes to begin. Most of them said 8:00 a.m. “I was surprised. I thought they would have said 9:00 or10: 00，”he said.
The National Sleep Foundation says on its website that teenagers' biological clocks（生物钟）are designed to stay up later and get up later. The Foundation called for schools to change their schedules，which means a later start as well for elementary students（小学生）.
“We do not have enough buses to run, since all the high school and elementary school buses run almost at the same time, Collins said. He suggested, “We should buy six more buses and get six more drivers to keep the new schedule working.”
Elementary school classes in Rockland now start at 8:30 a.m., but will be moved to 8: 45 a.m., starting in the autumn. “I know this is a problem for working parents, but we will see what we can come up with,” said Jane Brown, a teacher at Bardonia Elementary School. “Anyway, I believe if students get more sleep they 'll be more ready to learn when classes start,”she added.

爱心，耐心，恒心改变“问题学生”的三部曲 刘正文 北师大株洲附属学班级管理量化评比考核方案将班级管理的每一个环节转换成分数来评价每一个学生。分分分，学生的命根。班级里的好人好事层出不穷。班上有一位叫汤小皓的同学，主动去为班级擦窗户，本想做一件好事。但他不听同学劝告，非要在直饮水盆那里洗脏抹布，搞得直饮水盆那里一片污渍。班级的窗户倒是被他抹得干干净净，但是我们共用的饮水池污水横流。作为班主任的我感觉到有必要针对此事在班级里展开一次讨论，对全班学生进行一次做好事也要为他人着想的教育。 课堂上我指着干干净净的窗户，对孩子们说：“同学们，汤小皓同学主动把班级的窗户抹得干干净净的，你们认为汤小皓同学做了一件什么事呀？”同学们异口同声的说：“好事！”于是我在黑板上写上了“好事”两个大字。然后我接着问：“做好事应该得到大家的表扬，谁愿意来夸夸他呀？”此时的汤小皓深深地低下了头，脸红到了耳根。正当大家七嘴巴舌的表扬他的时候，他红着脸站了起来，不好意思的对大家说：“对不起，老师、同学们我错了！我做了一件坏事！”有些同学被他的话弄得不知所措。接下来，我给大家讲了事情的经过，并在黑板上写上了“坏事”两个字。然后对同学们说：“同学们，汤小皓同学本想做一件好事，可结果好事却变成了坏事。让我们来分析一下好事是如何变成坏事的好吗？”“汤小皓同学，你为班级擦窗户是做好事。但是你只想到了自己，而把我们大家共用的直饮水池弄得一片狼藉。”我慢慢说道。有一个同学说：“汤小皓你做事情不能只想到个人，而不顾及他人的感受。你应该学会为他人着想。”看着汤小皓难为情的样子，我急忙对大家说：“同学们，他已经认识到了自己的错误，并且清洗了饮水池的卫生。我们能不能帮助他把坏事再变回好事呢？”同学们各个举起了热情的小手。最后我征求了汤小皓的意见，“你看怎么样？”汤小皓爽快地回答到：“没问题，我一定要把坏事再变回好事。”从那以后，汤小皓每次擦完窗户把都会去厕所里清洗抹布，而且很注意厕所的干净和卫生。在老师和同学的帮助下，汤小皓终于使坏事变成了好事。 像汤小皓这样的孩子，本身行为有所偏差，如果没有正确的引导，那么慢慢地就变成一个行为偏差生或者是后进生，这是件可悲的事。因为每个孩子是带着要做好学生的美好愿望来学校的。但是渐渐地就只能坐在班里的一个无人问津的角落，迎来的是同学的冷漠和老师的训斥。孩子的心灵是脆弱的，每一次伤害都是在伤口上撒盐，最后变得麻木不仁了，或者桀骜不驯。 后进生的形成有其背后深层次的因素，首先应是怀着善良之心找出原因。是智力因素、家庭因素、习惯因素、身体因素，还是其它因素？就像医生找病因一样需要耐心和爱心。心浮气躁、恼羞成怒是不能解决问题的。有的老师说：“这个学生没药救了。”就像一个医生无可奈何地摇摇头宣布病人已无药可救。亦或者是公开提及学生的智能缺陷，存心数落他，刺痛他最敏感的内心深处。这不是在医治，而是对温柔、敏感童心的当头棒喝。拿一个人的无能示众，公开诋毁其人格。一个经常被亮出来批评训斥的学生会成为怎样的人？唯有善良才是有效的力量，它能让儿童免受粗俗和凶狠。引发儿童邪恶的不是善良，而是粗暴、冷漠。儿童的缺点，知道的人越少越好。用善良对待童心，就像叶子向着太阳，儿童的心灵也向着光明。因此除了先天不足的学生，后进生应都是家长和教育者的不高
