With the development of economy, people tend to pursue high quality living conditions. Most of the parents try their best to offer their children comfortable circumstances, but they seldom have time to Stay with their children. In my opinion, no matter how busy they are, they should make the best um of their time to stay with their children.

Every time when parents take them to the amusement park, help them to prepare their birthday parties, applaud for them when they are compedng in the sports meeting, the time they spend with children will become treasure in their memories.

Children need the direction from their parents. There are some wrong behaviors in our society' such as dishonesty, violence and so on. Children have weak resistance in defending this negative influuence. La this case, parents' instructions seem to be very important to children's growth. Parents should sir down smd talk with them about what they should do and should not do.

I do not deny that there are some disadvantages in spending too ranch time with children. Some parents restrict their children, and give them little

freedom to develop their interests. Therefore, I emphasize that parents should educate and instruct their children appropriately in their spare time apart flora their busy' work.

Parents Should Be Responsible For Children's Behaviors

The passage mainly tells us that parents play an important part in children's growth, suggesting that no matter how busy parents are, they should spend more time staying with their children and give proper instructions.

We know it is important for children to develop good habits. So it is disappointing and sad to see same children around us showing bad habits. As far as I am concerned, :parents should be responsible for helping children developing good habits. The reasons are as follows: first, it is commonly held that parents are the first

teacher of their children. The children adopt many ways and thoughts of their parents as they are growing. Second, parents' duties include not only providing food and clothing, but also knowledge and common sense required to go on well in society.

Therefore, I hope parents can spend more time staying with their children, giving proper guidance to their children. Meanwhile, parents should mind their words and acts, setting a good example for their children.

The way people hold the belief that a fun-filled, pain-free lifestyle equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever obtaining real happiness.

If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness, then pain must be equal to unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true: more often than not things that lead to happiness contain some pain.

As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true happiness. They fear the pain inevitably (不可避免地) brought by such things as marriage, raising children, professional achievement, religious commitment, self-improvement.

Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest,he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment, for commitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure and excitement.Marriage has such moments, but they are not its most distinguishing features.

Couples, with infant children, are lucky to get a whole night’s sleep of a three-day vacation. We don’t know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising children. But couples that decide not to have children ever know the joys of watching a child grow up or playing with a grandchild.

Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations. It liberates time: now we can devote more hours to activities that can really increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes to increase our

happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy: we now understand that all those who always have so much fun actually may not be happy at all.

The Possible Version:

A fun-filled, pain-free lifestyle equaling happiness actually reduces their chances of ever obtaining real happiness. As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true happiness. And the real happiness always contains some pain .In the other hand, true happiness has nothing to do with fun. All those who always have so much fun actually may not be happy at all.

I have a bitter experience. When I was a child, I lived a poor life, and I had

a happy and meaningful life in my childhood. And my parents were always respecting each other. And now we have some money, and our life has improved a lot. To tell the truth, it is a good thing. Unfortunately, My father always goes out and takes part in the gambling activities. And my mother sometimes quarrels with my father. I am extremely unhappy about it. I think money doesn’t equal happiness. And pain-free lifestyle also doesn’t equal happiness. The real happiness is that everyone loves each other, and does everything useful for our society. Most of my classmates

support me. But some of them think money is everything. In my opinion, we can’t do things without money. But money can’t take the place of everything, such as your life, your time and your happiness.

You may think birthdays mean only cake, presents, and a sweet song—”Happy Birthday”. However, there are many varieties of birthday celebrations. In the West, many birthday traditions come from an ancient belief that bad spiri ts showed up on a person’s birthday. To drive troublemaking spirits away, friends would visit each other on their birthdays. Today, people still get together for birthday parties. But around the world, birthdays are celebrated in many different ways.

In eastern Canada, children get their noses covered with butter on their birthdays. The butter is supposed to make children too slippery for bad luck to stick to them. Irish people lift birthday children upside down and hit them lightly on the floor for every year of their age. Mexico also has a unique birthday tradition. A paper-made animal is filled with candy and toys and hung from the ceiling. The birthday child with his eyes covered then tries to hit the animal with a stick until it bursts open.

This article is about how the birthday celebration comes and its traditions in western countries, especially the unique ways people celebrate birthday in eastern Canada, Irish and Mexico.

I usually spend my birthday in my house and my parents usually cook a big meal for me and my friends who come to my home to celebrate my birthday. But last month, I had a very unforgettable birthday.

That was Thursday so I still had to go to school. When I got home that evening after school, I found all my relatives waiting there for me. My mother had invited them all to come for a big birthday feast. It was great to

be together with them again. And what a dinner it was! Everything was so tasty that I ate until I couldn’t take another bite. The best birthday present was from my mother. It was a brand new bicycle!

Now you can see why I’ll never forget my seve nteenth birthday.

“Do-it-yourself” (DIY) trend continues growing not only in the US but also in some other areas in the world, for prices and building costs keep rising.

“We need furniture for our living room,” says John Ross, “and we just don’t have enough money to buy it. So we decide to try making a few tables and chairs.” John got married six months ago, and like many young people these days, they are struggling to make a home at a time when the cost of living is very high. The Rosses took a two-week course for $ 280 at a night school. Now they build all their furniture and make repairs around the house.

Jim Hatfield has three boys and his wife died. He has a full-time job at home as well as in a shoe-making factory. Last month, he received a car repair bill for $ 420. “I was deeply worried about it. Now I’ve finished a car repair course, I should be able to fix the car by myself.”

John and Jim are not unusual people. Most families in the country are doing everything they can to save money so they can fight the high cost of living. If you want to become a “do-it-yourself”, you can go to DIY classes. And for those who don’t have time to take a course, there are books that tell you how you can do things yourself.

Do-it-yourself

“Do-it-yourself” is more and more popular in many countries because it can lower people’s living cost. There are DIY classes or books available for people to learn to become a “do-it yourself”.

In my city, “DIY” is becoming so popular that many people go to DIY classes or read some related books. I also l ove the idea of “DIY” because it can not only lower our living cost but can make us happy as well.

On Mother’s Day, I wanted to give my mother a big surprise. I cooked the meal and washed my clothes though I did them clumsily. My parents were really surprised and happy when they saw what I did. I felt happy at my parents’ praise, so I decided I would do more things by myself from then on because I believe “do-it -yourself” can give us confidence and independence, make us perform better in the future and will benefit me a lot in my life.

I think that a hero doesn’t have to be someone who saves people or anything, but he or she can be a teacher or a friend. My personal hero is my music teacher, since he puts so much extra effort into teaching us. He does an extra Steel Drum Band for us. He doesn’t have to do anything extra for us, but he chooses to since he loves to teach and be with us so much. Not

many other teachers would want to do so much extra stuff for us since they probably get tired of us after a while, but he does since he cares. No matter how annoying we are to him, he always helps us. If we don’t understand what he’s teaching, he helps us more and tries even harder to make us understand everything we need to. He teaches us the proper techniques for holding instruments as well as playing, instead of just yelling at us if we mess up. He will always have a kind thing to say, even if you’re badly failing his class. He won’t be mad. He will just tr y harder to help. He always remembers his students, and has some sort of special connection of some sort with everyone. He will always remember to smile and talk to you in the halls, even if he only waves, he still notices everyone.

My Hero

The writer tells us his opinions about hero. He thinks his music teacher is his personal hero, who is always patient and tries hard to help and encourage him under any circumstances.

I suppose everyone has his own hero. And I don’t think a hero have to fight in the war or do something to help millions of lives. A hero to me is someone who will try hard to do well what he or she is supposed to do. My head teacher is my hero. She is a very nice woman. She takes good care of our study and life at school. Every day she gets to school early in the morning and goes back home late, just to make sure that everyone of us is doing the best. Whenever we are in trouble, she is always ready to help. And definitely she’s become my hero. So a hero isn’t so far away, isn’t it?

I took a trip to a big lake in Indonesia with my family two years ago. It was really a huge lake with beautiful scenery all around. People were amazed by the endless view in front of our eyes. Later on, unlike other girls, I

volunteered to go water-skiing alone. I put on the life jacket, got on the motorboat immediately and started my engine as soon as possible.

The lake seemed broad and endless. I was so thrilled(激动) to enjoy my trip among the mountains and waters that I sped my motorboat. Then, after some time, I found myself in the middle of the endless lake. A sudden fear came around me. I didn’t know where I was or even how far I had gone from the shore. What was worse, it began to rain and it became very cold and foggy. I rode everywhere but couldn’t find my way back. It was useless for me to cry or shout for help. I was so terrified that I began to think about all kinds of horrible things. After floating on the water helplessly and hopelessly for a long time, suddenly I heard someone calling my name. Soon, a big steamboat sailed to me and they pulled me up to the deck and asked me if I was hurt. I couldn’t say a word but cried out in my father’s arms.

I will never forget my experience of visiting the zoo in Guangzhou when I was a little boy. I went there with my parents on a Sunday. I was very excited to see so many animals in the zoo and just couldn’t wait to look at the lions and tigers. I was actually running when I suddenly realized that my parents were not with me. I was so scared and began to cry when thinking about the possibility of being kidnapped or being eaten up by the animals. Then a man in uniform came to me and took me to the gate after asking about my name and my parents’. Soon my parents heard the broadcast and came to find me. They were even more frightened than I was!

How would you like to teach yourself, rather than have teachers? According to the UK’s Department of Education and Skills, students will teach themselves in the schools of the future. This means that there will be no more problems such as finding enough teachers,

Greater use of computer technology and classroom assistants will help students develop their own way of learning, which is a more exciting, as well as a more interesting way of learning. At the same time, teachers will be "free from their traditional role as the source of all knowledge". Children of all abilities will learn according to their individual needs. For example, in a class of 15-year-olds, some could be starting university learning while others were still learning to read and write. They will learn in their own time, at their own speed and in their own environment. At home or at school, they will follow their learning programmes by looking at online libraries and watching lessons by world-class teachers and subject experts. Instead of going on field trips, students will use virtual reality. If they do n’t understand something, they can ask other students—take part in virtual communities with learners with similar needs—or e-mail .their teachers. They will hand in their work electronically to be “auto –marked”.

Greater use of computer technology and classroom assistants will enable students to study according to their own ability and individual needs. Meanwhile, teachers will no longer play the traditional role as the source of all knowledge.

Compared to a traditional classroom, there is no doubt that children can get more learning resources on the Net. In virtual reality, they can share their ideas in a much wider range with different teachers and students, which will be beneficial to them. Moreover, network makes the study more convenient for kids. They as well as their parents don’t need to wo rry about the bad weather, the heavy traffic, etc. Just stay at home and click. Everything seems so easy.

I often surf the Net for varieties of information to help with my study. But I don’t think the Internet can replace the traditional classrooms. For le arning

is more than just acquiring knowledge of all subjects. Kids are not good at controlling themselves, so they still need a teacher to guide them face to face in both study and life.

Helicopter parents (过度溺爱孩子的父母)pay close attention to everything, and overmanage their child's life. Some make sure their child succeeds in every way. Others hurry to prevent harm, instead of letting their children learn from their mistakes.

Like a helicopter that hovers, parents by the same name are always within reach, even when their children demand a bit more breathing room. They think they're helping their children, but experts believe they could be causing more harm than good.

Are you in constant contact with your child? Cell phones have led to frequent communication between parents and children. If you call your child every morning to make sure he's getting to class on time, take a step back.

Do you try and make all your child's academic decisions for him? If you are choosing their courses and career path, you're not letting them decide how to live their own lives. Giving advice is OK, but give them some space to make their own decisions.

Do you get anxious if your child doesn't succeed? Helicopter

parents base their own self-worth on their child's success, and that can create problems for everyone. If your child fails a project or has relationship troubles in college, don't take it personally. You've done the best you can, and now the rest is up to them.

Letting Go!

This article points out the common phenomenon of parents

over-managing their children's life. It gives us a vivid picture of what are called helicopter parents. The article is very critical of parents who take

this role.

I must admit that my parents love me very much, even though they sometimes criticize me. Last Monday, I had wanted to chat with my American friend online. However, they didn’t allow me to use the computer because they don’t like me surfing the Internet frequently, or chatting alone with foreigners. Although they deeply care for me, it makes me unhappy that they often look through my personal things. Also, if I watch TV too much, they complain about my habits.

I would like to tell them that I can manage without their hovering over me! I’d like to say to them, “Please let go of your anxiety. Give me some advice, when necessary, about how to make good decisions. Otherwise, let me think for myself. Your goal should be for me to grow up on my own, into a independent, mature adult.”

Thousands of fans are on fire for the handsome appearances, beautiful songs and perfect acting skills of their idols, and they imitate whatever stars do, including their clothes, hair style and hobbies. As a result, some of them forget what they should do and even spoil their study. In my opinion, having idols is not a bad thing. However, we should make it clear who are the real “heroes”. As far as I am concerned, the real heroes are those who are making the most contributions to our society, such as teachers, doctors and scientists. As young students we should learn from them. Only in this way can we become useful men and be real popular stars in the future. That’s all. Doctors say anger can be an extremely harmful emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that angry feelings can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer. Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time. Some people express anger openly in a calm, reasonable way. Others burst with anger, losing control of themselves. But still other people control their anger. They cannot or will not express it. Recently some doctors have found that people who express anger too often and violently become, in fact, more and not less angry. This can cause medical problems. Some doctors say that both controlling and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger strongly may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who deep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry. Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.

?___________________________________________________ ?___________________________________________________ ?That's all. Thank you. Dear friends, As is known to all, our school has launched a campaign against bad habits in order to build a civilized campus. But it has come to my notice that lots of bad behaviour still exists in our school. This does great harm to the image of our school. Therefore, I strongly urge that we students stop throwing rubbish everywhere and spitting in public. Besides, everyone must discipline himself not to make dirty remarks or waste food. Such bad manners as smoking and fighting should also be removed from our campus. At the same time, we should start with ourselves to perform good manners all the time and everywhere. We also promote the spirit of helping each other and healthy competition. Once again I'm here earnestly calling on everyone to take action and contribute to making our school a nicer place. That's all. Thank you. Dear Mr Wang, We're so pleased that you are willing to share our views.

Students should think now about what extracurricular (课外的) activities they'd like to participate in. Participating in extracurricular activities may help you deepen your physical, creative, social, political, and career interests by bringing you into communication with other like-minded people you didn’t previously know. You can join groups as a way to get support from other students. A club or group can also be a great way to meet people who are different from you. Lots of youth programs bring people together with those who are different as a way to break down the barriers between people. Participating in extracurricular activities helps you in other ways, too. It looks good on college and job applications and shows admissions officers and employers you're well-rounded and responsible. Specific activities help with specific goals. The most basic reason for joining a club or team is that it gives you something better to do than staring at the wall, wandering the hall, or sleeping all afternoon. People who are participating are less likely to pick up bad habits, like smoking or drinking.

Decoding the young brain There was a funny experiment to see how a young child would answer a specific question compared to an adult. After the adult had spent some time speaking with the child, he asked the child, “What do you think about me?” The child answered, “You talk too much.” When the adult performed the same experiment with another adult, the reply to the same question was, “I think you're a very interesting person.” Even if the adult f elt the same way as the child, his brain allowed him to take a moment, consider the question, and come up with an answer. He could have been annoyed, but his answer didn't reflect it because he was being polite. The secret lies in the science of the developing brain. The child's honest answer was reflected in the fact that his brain wasn't equipped to filter(过滤) information before answering the question. As a result, he was honest, but he said something that may have been hurtful. However, the child did not intentionally hurt the adult; it's just the way his brain works. As a child grows into adolescence and then into adulthood, that changes. The human brain is made up of billions of neurons(神经元). In order for our body to execute a command, like getting up from a chair and walking to the other room, the neurons in the brain have to communicate with each other. They also help us employ our senses like taste and touch and help us remember things. When the neurons send messages, perhaps one sensation(感觉) the person feels is excitement about eating a cookie because it is so delicious. Later, if that person smells a cookie or hears someone talking about a cookie, it can spark the electrical signals that call up the memory of eating the delicious cookie. In an adult, he or she may remember that eating too many cookies can have consequences, like weight gain. But because the younger brain is more impulsive(冲动的), the desire to feel the pleasure of the sweet treat outweighs the consequences. That is becau se when a child is young, his brain is “wired” in such a way that he seeks pleasure and is more willing to take risks than an adult. This affects his decision-making process and it is why younger people tend to be more impulsive. Sometimes parents have to tell their children over and over again before the child remembers that something is dangerous or risky. How many times have we heard a parent say, “I tell her this all the time, but she never listens!” To conclude, what we know about the young brain is that children are more likely than adults to be impulsive. It isn't always necessarily because they are being naughty; it may very well be because of their brains. So the next time you ask a child what he really thinks of you, be prepared for any kind of answer.
