1 O liver's early life

O liver Twist was born in a workhouse, and when he arrived in this hard world,it was very doubtful whether he would live beyond the first three minutes. He lay on a hard little bed and struggled to start breathing.O liver fought his first battle without much assistance from the two people present at his birth. One was an old woman, who was nearly always drunk, and the other was a busy local doctor, who was not paid enough to be very interested in O liver's survival. After all, death was a common event in the workhouse, where only the poor and homeless lived.

However,O liver managed to draw his first breath, and then announced his arrival to the rest of the workhouse by crying loudly. His mother raised her pale young face from the pillow and whispered,'Let me see the child, and die.'

The doctor turned away from the fire, where he had been warming his hands.'You must not talk about dying yet,'he said to her kindly. He gave her the child to hold.Lovingly, she kissed the baby on its forehead with her cold white lips, the n stared wildly around the room, fell

back-and died. 'Poor dear!'said the nurse, hurriedly putting a green glass

《雾都孤儿英文读后感》 雾都孤儿英文读后感(一): Learn to love and care Here I am sitting on a couch alone, thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadness filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart, which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishness of the secular world for a long time。 It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist, written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens。 The resonance between me and the book makes me feel not only the kindness and the wickedness of all the characters in the novel, but what this aloof society lacks, and what I lack deep inside。 These supreme resources Im talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals, oil that we usually mention。 Theyre abstract like feelings, and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another love and care。 Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life。 They showed love and care to others, just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth, which was carved into my heart deeply。 Mr。 Brownlow is one such person。 The other day he had one of his elaborate watches stolen by two skilled teenage thieves, Artful Dodger and Charley Bates, and thought naturally it was Oliver, who was an orphan and forced to live with a gang of thieves, that had done it because he was the only one near by after the theft had taken place。 Being wrathful, he caught Oliver, and sent him to the police station where the ill-tempered, unfair magistrates worked。 Fortunately for him, Oliver was proved innocent by one onlooker afterwards。 With sympathy, Mr。 Brownlow took the injured, poor Oliver to his own home。 There Oliver lived freely and gleefully for some months as if he were Mr。 Brownlows own son。 One day, however, Mr。 Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send some money for the new books that he had already collected。 The thief Oliver once stayed with kidnapped him。 After that he disappeared in Mr。 Brownlows life。 Searching for a while,Mr。 Brownlow had to believe the fact that he had run away with his money。 But dramatically, they came across each other again a few years later。 Without hesitation, Mr。 Brownlow took Oliver home for the second time not caring if he had done something evil。 Perhaps most of us would feel confused about Mr。 Brownlows reaction。 But as a matter of fact, this is just the lesson we should learn from him。 Jesus said in the Bible。 Forgive not seven times, but seventy-times seven。 Why is that? Because forgiveness is our

It's long long ago, maybe before I can read english books. I don't remember which movie edition I had seen. But I was impressed by the music, the scenery and the costume. I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. It's pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the heroine, though I didn't think she's beautiful. But she's smart. However, I didn't pay much attention to the plot. I thought it's so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I haven't read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice. Oliver Twist is written by Charles Dickens. Charles Dickens is one of the greatest writers in the England. He was born in a poor family, but later he became famous and rich. The famous novel --A Tale of Two Cities is written by him, too. This novel shows us the cruelty and crime of London. Oliver Twist, the hero, is a poor orphan. He lived in a life filled with taunts. Nobody loved him. With visions of his future, he decided to go to London. He thought a new life was coming, but he was wrong, a group of thieves were waiting for him. The author created a group of bad men. When I read the novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles ten years ago for the first time, I was merely shocked by Tess’s miserable and tragic fate. What a lovely and kind girl! She did nothing wrong but she had to bear all these adversities that she didn’t deserve. At that time I was just a naive little girl in junior high school. Fagin, an old man, with a horribly ugly face and red hair, was the head of those thieves. He tried to make Oliver be a criminal. Monks, Oliver’s brother, did bad things to hurt Oliver. He wanted to get the legacies left by his father alone. He paid Fagin to trap Oliver into a

Book Report Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist. The People’s Literature Publishing House,1999. Oliver Twist is a story by Charles Dickens that takes place in the middle of the 19th century. It the story of a young orphan named Oliver Twist. His mother died while giving birth in an old workhouse. He has moved around through different orphanages and finally runs away to the streets of London. On the way to London he meets a nice boy named Jack Dawkins, also known as the Dodger. The Dodger gave the poor orphan a place to stay and something to eat and drink. Oliver found out that his new "friends" were thieves and they forced Oliver to help them with a robbery. They were supposed to use Oliver to sneak into a house through a small opening and unlock the front door. The owners were awakened and Oliver got shot. Oliver's partners in crime fled the scene. Oliver told the owners of the house his story and they took him as their own. Oliver grew attached. The family educated him and put him to work a little. At the end of the story an old friend named Mr. Brownlow adopted him. One theme in Oliver Twist is to know your friends better. In this book Oliver met a boy named Jack Dawkins. He seemed like a nice boy and offered Oliver some food and a place to stay. Oliver got to be friends with Jack Dawkins and his friend named Charlie Bates. One day they were "going to work" when all of the sudden Jack and Charlie stole a handkerchief from an old man. The two boys were thieves! They ran away and left Oliver in the alley. When the old man realized that his handkerchief was missing he though Oliver did it. The old man started to chase Oliver and yelled out "Stop thief! Stop thief!" Jack Dawkins and Charlie Bates joined in the chase so that they did not look suspicious. They no sooner heard the cry, and saw Oliver running, than, guessing exactly how the matter stood, they issued forth with great promptitude; and, shouting 'Stop thief!' too, joined in the pursuit like good citizens. If Oliver noticed that the young boys were thieves he would not have been arrested and he would not have eventually been shot in the arm. But, because he was in need of a friend he seemed to over look the fact that the kids were thieves. Later in the story Nancy, a prostitute, betrayed her friends and her lover. She tried to warn Oliver's friends of Mr. Monks

Oliver Twist Oliver Twist is written by British writer Charles John Huffam Dickens in 1838. Dickens was born in Portsmouth in 1812. When he was a child, he had received education in a private school for a period of time. But he had not taken much formal education, essentially studying by himself. By the age of 12, Dickens’s father was jailed because of the debt problem. Then he was sent to London as an apprentice in a shoeshine field, where he had to work for 10 hours a day. Maybe because of this experience, Dickens’s work focused more on the life of social labor people. His work is still popular now and has a great influence in English literature. The hero of the novel is Oliver Twist who was an orphan. Everyday, he suffered from starvation and bully. At last, he can’t ignore the abuse of the boss, he escaped to London along. Then the story began. As soon as he reached London, he was noticed by a thief gang. The head of the gang tried to make Oliver work for him. One day, when Oliver and a member of this gang called Bates were walking in the street, Oliver was arrested by the police because of a misunderstanding that a
