应用文海淀Dear Jim,

How is it going I’m so glad to hear you will come to Beij ing and participate in the Chinese

Singing Competition for Foreigners this summer vacation. For the song to choose, I highly recommend Moli Hua, Jasmine Flower, which is representative of Chinese folk music.

My recommendation is based on the following reasons. First of all, it enjoys wide popularity, so there’s no doubt it will attract the audience’s attention once you start to sing. Moreover, this song has beautiful melody and simple lyrics, which are relatively easy for you to learn in a short time. At the same time, the soothing tunes will make your learning process pleasant and comfortable.

I bet you are bound to stand out among all the competitors.

I sincerely hope my recommendation can be helpful and wish you a wonderful performance. When you come to Beijing, remember to let me know, since I’d like to be there to cheer for you.

Yours, Li Hua 西城

Dear Jim,

I’m happy to hear that you’re interested in the extracurricular activities organized by our school. Now, I’d like to give you more details.

A variety of activities have been organized, such as visiting Capital Museum, taking a field trip

to Qufu, Shandong, home of Confucius, planting trees in Mangshan Park and learning to bake a cake

in a pastry shop, just to name a few.

The activities mentioned above are quite popular with students. My favorite kind of activity is

field trips. I went to Qufu in Senior One and Hangzhou in Senior Two. Both trips deeply impressed me. The reasons why I like field trips are as follows. First, field trips offer me a good chance to broaden my horizons. As the Chinese saying goes: “It is better to travel ten thousand miles than

to read ten thousand books.” Not only can I learn from locals and my own experiences, but also I can see with my own eyes our beautiful country and splendid culture. Second, field trips improve my research skills. Before we take field trips, we are always asked to prepare by searching online or in the library for useful information. Third, field trips help strengthen friendships. Since many

of the field trips last several days, it is a good opportunity to bond with classmates better

outside the classroom.

I really hope that you can go on a field trip with us in the future. Yours

Li Hua 东城Dear Jim,

I’m very glad to know that you are interested in the chan ges in Beijing. Let me tell you some of

the developments during the past few years.

I have witnessed many great changes in my city. The most impressive one is the rapid development

of transportation. In the past, people travelled mainly by bus. Nowadays, with more and more subway lines built, it is much faster and more convenient for people to go almost everywhere. Additionally, the spread of public bikes helps people travel any distance more easily. All these couldn’t have happened without the measures taken by the government and applications

of new technology.

I enjoy these conveniences every day and feel proud of my city. I am confident that Beijing will become more liveable in the future. Just come and have a look yourself!

Yours, Li Hua 朝阳

Dear Jim,

I’m glad to know that you’ll take part in the “Studying in China” speech contest. I’d like to give you some suggestions.

I recommend that you talk about the courses on Chinese traditional culture you’ve attended. The major reason is that they introduce the r eal treasure in human history. Besides, since you’ve

taken the courses systematically, you’re sure to have a deep understanding of them.

To do it well, I think you should choose impressive examples to gain the recognition of the judges. Moreover, you have to practice your spoken Chinese to express yourself more clearly and fluently. Speaking skills are also needed, for they can help maximize the effectiveness of your speech.

I really hope my advice will be helpful. Wish you a great success.

Yours, Li Hua 丰台

In recent years, great changes have taken place in my life. What impresses me most is that technology has made our study easier and more effective.

Take online study as an example. This term I take some online courses, which is more convenient and flexible than studying on campus. The large variety of online courses, ranging from the school subjects to career courses, provides me with abundant choices. I can choose the ones I like and

have classes anywhere through the Internet. I also join some online study groups where I enjoy a closer relationship with my teachers and other group members. When I meet with any questions, they always give me quick replies.

The online study has benefited me a lot. I have every reason to believe that the development of technology will bring about far-reaching changes in every aspect of our life.

石景山

Dear Sir/Madame,

I have learned that volunteers for Beijing Winter Olympic Games are needed. I’m writing to apply

for this position.

As a Beijinger, I think it is a privilege and duty for me to offer the best voluntary service to

our foreign guests and meanwhile promote Chinese culture.

I believe I’m qualified for the job. I have a good command of English and I’m confident in giving players guidance and help as required. What’s more, I have an extensive knowledge of winter sports, which will prove helpful in communicating with players. In addition, I have been involved in

several international exchange programs, and enjoyed spreading our culture to foreigners.

I would appreciate it if you could offer me the opportunity. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely, Li Hua
