Syllabus for College English Test

—Band Four(CET-4)—

总则

国家教委在印发理工科本科和文理科本科用的两种《大学英语教学大纲》的通知中指出,大纲执行两年后,开始对结束四、六级学习的学生进行统一的标准化测试。大学英语四级考试(CET-4)就是根据这一规定而设计的。考试的目的在于全面考核已修完大学英语四级的

学生是否达到教学大纲所确定的各项目标。这种考试属于尺度相关常模参照性考试

(criterion-related norm-referenced test)。

教学大纲指出:大学英语教学的目的是培养学生具有较强的阅读能力、一定的听的能力(理工科适用的大纲还规定一定的译的能力)以及初步的写和说的能力,使学生能以英语为工具,获取专业所需要的信息,并为进一步提高英语水平打下较好的基础。为此,本考试主要考核学生运用语言的能力,同时也考核学生对语法结构和词语用法的掌握程度。

本考试是一种标准化考试。由于目前尚不具备口试的条件,暂时只进行笔试。考试范围主要是教学大纲所规定的一级至四级的全部内容(说与译的内容除外)。为保证试卷的信度,除短文写作是主观性试题外,其余试题都采用客观性的多项选择题形式。短文写作部分旨在较好地考核学生运用语言的能力,从而提高试卷的效度。

本考试于每学期结束前后举行,由大学英语四、六级标准考试设计组负责和实施。每年举行两次。

考试内容

本考试包括五个部分:听力理解、阅读理解、词语用法与语法结构、完形填空、短文写作。全部题目按顺序统一编号。

第一部分:听力理解(Part 1:Listening Comprehension):共20题,考试时间20分钟

。这一部分包括两节:A节(Section A)有10题,每题含一组对话,对话后有一个问句。B节(Section B)有10题,分别安排在若干篇听力材料之后,每篇后有二至四道题,每题为一个问句。

听力部分的每个问句后有约15秒的间隙,要求考生从试卷所给出的每题四个选择项中选出一个最佳答案。录音的语速为每分钟约120词,念一遍。

选材的原则是:

1、话部分为日常生活中的一般对话,句子结构和内容不太复杂;

2、短篇听力材料为题材熟悉、情节不太复杂的故事、讲话、叙述等;

3、所用词语不超出教学大纲词汇表四级规定的范围。听力理解部分的目的是测试学生获取口头信息的能力。

第二部分:阅读理解(Part Ⅱ:Reading Comprehension):共20题,考试时间35分。

要求考生阅读若干篇短文,总阅读量不超过1000词。每篇短文后有若干个问题。考生应根据文章内容从每题四个选择项中选出一个最佳答案。

选材的原册是:

1、题材广泛,可以包括人物传记、社会、文化、日常知识、科普常识等,但是所涉及的背景知识应能为学生所理解;

2、体裁多样,可以包括叙述文、说明文、议论文等;

3、文章的语言难度中等,无法猜测而又影响理解的关键词,如超出教学大纲词汇表四级的范围,用汉语注明词义。

阅读理解部分主要测试下述能力:

1、掌握所读材料的主旨和大意;

2、了解说明主旨和大意的事实和细节;

3、既理解字面的意思,也能根据所读材料进行一定的判断和推论;

4、既理解个别句子的意义,也理解上下文的逻辑关系。

阅读理解部分的目的是测试学生通过阅读获取信息的能力,既要求准确,也要求有一定速度。

第三部分:词语用法和语法结构(Part Ⅲ:Vocabulary and Structure):共30题,考试时间20分钟。题目中40%为词和短语的用法,60%为语法结构。要求考生从每题四个选择项中选出一个最佳答案。

词语用法和语法结构部分的目的是测试学生运用词汇、短语及语法结构的能力。考试范围包括教学大纲词汇表及语法结构表一级至四级的全部内容。

第四部分:完形填空(Part Ⅳ :Cloze):共20题,考试时间15分钟。在一篇题材熟悉、难度适中的短文(约200词)中留有20个空白,每个空白为一题,每题有四个选择项,要求考生在全面理解内容的基础上选择一个最佳答案,使短文的意思和结构恢复完整。填空的词项包括结构词和实译词。

完形填空部分的目的是测试学生综合运用语言的能力。

第五部分:写作(Part Ⅴ:Writing):共1题,考试时间30分钟。要求考生写出一篇100-120词的短文,试卷上可能给出题目,或规定情景,或要求看图作文,或给出段首句要求续写;或给出关键词要求写成短文。要求能够正确表达思想,意义连贯,无重大语法错误。写作的内容包括日常生活和一般常识。

短文写作部分的目的是测试学生运用英语书面表达思想的初步能力。

答题及计分方法

客观性试题用机器问卷,要求考生从每题四个选择项中选出一个最佳答案,并在答题纸(Answer Sheet)上该题的相应字母中间用铅笔划一条横线。试卷(Test Paper)上不能作任

何记号。每题只能选择一个答案,多选作答错处理。多项选择题记分只算答对的题数,答错不扣分。主观性试题按科学的评分标准评分。试卷各部分记分采用计权的方法,折算成百分制,以60分为及格标准。凡达到及格标准的发给大学英语四级考试合格证书,达到85分的注明“优秀”字样。

试卷五个部分的题目数、计分和考试时间列表如下:

大学英语四、六级考试计分体制和成绩报道说明

自2005年6月考试起,大学四、六级考试的原始分数在经过加权、等值处理后,参照常模转换为均值为500、标准差为70的常模正态分数。同时,四、六级考试不设及格线,考试合格证书改为成绩报告单。

四、六级考试报道总分计算公式为:

式中X表示每个考生加权、等值处理后的原始分数,Mean表示常模均值,SD表示常模标准差。

目前,四、六级的分数常模群体由1987年的全国若干所重点大学的近万名本科生组成。四、六级考试委员会计划在2006年对常模进行第一次修订。

常模正态分数的特点是能够报道考生在常模群体中所处的百分位置。举例如下(参见表1和表2):·某考生四级报道总分是450分,则其在常模群体中的百分位是24%,表示这名考生的英语成绩优于常模群体中24%的人。

·某考生六级报道总分是500分,则其在常模群体中的百分位在48%~57%之间,表示这名考生的英语成绩至少优于常模群体中48%的人,但不会优于57%的人。

四、六级考试单项分的报道分为四个部分,这四个部分以及各部分所占的分值比例分别为:听力(20%)、阅读(40%)、综合(25%)、作文(15%)。各单项报道分的满分分别为:听力142分;阅读284分;综合178分;作文106分。各单项报道分相加之和等于报道总分。

四、六级的单项报道分也是常模正态分数,但参照的常模是相应的单项常模。因此,单项报道分能够报道考生在各单项常模群体中所处的百分位置。举例如下(参见表1和表2):

·某考生四级作文报道分数是62分,则其在常模群体中的百分位是在77%~86%之间,表示这名考生的英语成绩至少要优于常模群体中77%的人,但不会优于86%的人。

·某考生六级听力报道分数是100分,则其在常模群体中的百分位是54%,表示这名考生的英语听力成绩优于常模群体中54%的人。

对于四六级考试具有一个新的题型,新的题型和旧的题型最大的改变是什么?

江涛:首先是今年12月份的新四级的覆盖面是全国1000多所高校,这是覆盖面的问题。第二,从改革的精神来讲,新四级的改革精神是听说领先,原来听力的分值只占原分值的20%,但是今年12月份考试听力会上升到35%,这是第一个。口语的会下降。以前我们四级的准入分数线是80分,你会有资格,但是现在这个分数,你可能及格或者是只打了425分或者是475分,相当于及格线你就有权利或者是极限参加这个权利。第一个是听说能力上升了,第二是主观题加重了。这个对于很多大学生来讲是噩耗。为什么说是一个噩耗呢?以前除了25%是需要你自己写出来,大部分题型是A、B、C、D你可以抓阄。现在的主观题,新增主观题中,复合式听写成为了必考题,阅读理解增设了快速阅读理解和篇章的词汇,还有原先三选一当英译中变成了现在的中译英。主观题大概是35%,可能是降低了一些同学猜题或者是懵题这样的比例。

我举个例子,听力,有些单词不仅需要你听明白了,你要选出来,以前是听出来之后,你可以选出来A、B、C、D,现在你听懂了之后,你要把这个单词写出来。这样难度就会增加,加强了对这个考生的基本

功的拼写能力的查证。这是第二个比较大的改变。

还有更多的一些改变,就体现在具体的一些题型。刚才我也看在这个网站上有同学提出来,在考务上

发生了很大的变化。

在新四级与老四级的题型的变化当中,我们应该如何应对呢?

江涛:我总是试图通过这种方式来给我们广大的网民或者是同学更有效,更实际的方式和方法。首先第一,我们拿听力来讲,因为听力从原来的20%上升到了35%,并且改革发生了大的改变,以前只有两个部分。每个部分占10%,现在增加了一个长对话。并且复合式听写扩充到50%,我刚才听彭校长刚才在说的时候,我也有同感。比如说老师说,听说怎么样提高。先从语音课去攻克。我举个例子,在听力的时候,我们很多同学听力不是听不懂,是反应太慢。打个比方,我们0.1秒应该反应出来的,他可能要花2秒或者是3秒才反应出来。为什么我说发音呢?我们当声波传到耳膜之后我们在快速查对,我们在脑子里存的声波符号和这个符号能不能对应上。如果能对应上,就是这个意思。如果这个发音关过不了,在大脑里存的声波富豪是一个错的,正确的过来以后,自然而然会增强你的反应时间。我先说到这个地方,从这一点上来讲的话,我们的彭校长在这方面绝对是一个专家。在这儿我也代表广大网民,发音的细节性的东西,

请彭校长给大家发音方面的一些具体的建议

如何对作文第一关,就是不同的结构性分析的话,如何来写这个作文?这个作文他应该如何来写,才

能写到一个标准的分数?

江涛:这个其实很难说,因为通过这种方式的话,没有这个黑板或者是没有范文的话,很难通过这个镜头来观看这次访谈的同学们有一个质的把握。但是我想,写作文的话,其实现在在新四级的改革之后,这个作文,其实是提到一个很战略性的位置。以前我们很多同学认为,作文是一个写,无论前面发挥得怎么样,作文是最后一个部分了。12月份我们将要碰到的四级考试,作文是作为第一块出来的。我们要把它提到一个战略高度来准备这个作文考试。其实说一千道一万,在作文考试的准备当中,我个人觉得,无外乎这样几的步骤。首先第一个就是要审题,很多同学可能会自以为然,可能会觉得,我不需要审题。我觉得四级的作文题目非常容易,但是实际证明我们在阅卷过程当中,很多同学写来写去,写偏了。我举几个简单的例子。2002年12月份,有一篇文章,中文名字叫做诚信是值得的。当时的考试要求是,他有两点。第一点,请您列举一些社会上不诚信的例子。第二,让您谈一谈,做人做事应该诚信。其实在四级作文当中只要求你写120个字就可以了。我经常开玩笑说,同学,你想一想,去掉标题,去掉几个关键词,实际上剩下来不需要你写太多的字。我们如果分重点的话,那前面实际上举一两个例子就可以了。花三四十个篇幅够足够了。后面相对来讲来论证一下诚信。而我们很多同学,这个脑袋会很大,列举一会儿,又是上车被小偷扒了,一会儿买米里头搀沙子了,前头写了90个字,后来写了一两句话。实际上这是属于审题

不当。这个说一千道一万,这是非常重要的。

第二个就是审题之后,我真的建议很多同学能够打一些腹稿,很多同学往往说,前面我经常建议大家,30分钟的写作怎么去花呢?五分钟的审题和打腹稿,20分钟用于来正式写作,还有5分钟用于检查。实际上我们很多人无限的把中间20分钟写作文的时间膨胀了。一个头,一个尾。很多中国的大学生不注意平时的训练,前面五分钟,后面五分钟收掉了。这样会导致什么问题呢?为什么有很多同学不愿意花前面五分钟构思,去打腹稿,他会觉得浪费时间。但我告诉很多大学生,你为了要节省前面的五分钟,从而抛弃前面的审题和构思打腹稿的这个时间的话,未来你在写作过程当中,卡壳,咬着铅笔在冥思苦想的时间要多于五分钟。学生考试的时候,我经常在教室外头看一看这些学生,很多学生在写作的时候咬一个笔头,因为写到这些句,前面构思不好,不知道下面写什么。这是一个时间。还有最后检查的五分钟也是非常有必要的。我们经常有一些同学犯很多错误。这样的错误,任何人花三分钟,五分钟,心平气和看一看,都可以使你的作文能够上一个档次。这些东西,大家平时不注意的,如果你们注意了,都会再提高你们的分数。如果要是说在作文方面,你需要了解更多的信息的话,也请关注我们的讲座信息。可能在未来的专题讲座当中,有关于作文的东西,我们可以通过黑板,BBT文件或者是散发我们的讲义。

四级和六级的线,今年过去的考试,定的分数线是425分,相当于以前的60分。你四级过了425分之后的话,那么你下一次有资格去参加六级考试,但是教育部考试中心规定的参加六级的资格一共有如下几个。首先第一个是你修完了大学四年的英语课程。一般的大学,一般是非英语专业,大四就没有英语课程了。一般报考六级首先是大二、大三的学生。第二,已经通过了四级的425分的分数线。这样两个标准才有可能报考六级。

为什么还有困难呢?是因为你们没有把英语作为一个工具在用它,没有把它作为一个技巧在练它,我在这里告诉每一位同学,如果在今天开始,你改变学习英语的方法的话,将来你的进步一定会出现质的飞跃。怎么改变呢?从现在开始,把英语作为一个工具,每天去用它。英语不是研究出来的,英语是用出来的。就像我儿子学中文一样,不是学中文,而是用了中文,由于他用了中文,所以他学会了英文。他的读和写不行,他只会用听。你在英语学习过程中间,一定要以听说为切入点,这是语言的第一功能。

首先第一,你考不考四六级,教育部说了不算,教育部考试中心说了不算,你们学校说不了算。谁说了算呢?市场说了算。因为在未来,你要说一份非常好的工作,而现在我们的四六级从去年开始改革以来,连及格证书都没有了,只有一个单。对于大家来讲,短时间内想谋求一个非常好的工作,找到一个很好的落脚处,有一个非常高的人生起步的话,我真的很建议,我们广大的大学生朋友能够非常严肃,也非常认真的来对待这次四级考试,尽可能的考出高分出来。
