浅析国内标牌翻译的错误原因及改善方法

【摘要】随着中国国际影响力越来越大，来到中国的外国友人也日益增多。很多在公共场所用来提示和警示的标牌标上了英文译名。然而，由于为翻译者的英语水平有限、对译文的理解不深、对外国人的生活习惯和民俗情况不甚了解等原因，导致标牌的译文出现很多错误。因此，本文将分析翻译错误的原因、研究如何正确的翻译，并找出正确的标牌翻译方法。

浅析国内标牌翻译的错误原因及改善方法 【摘要】随着中国国际影响力越来越大，来到中国的外国友人也日益增多。很多在公共场所用来提示和警示的标牌标上了英文译名。然而，由于为翻译者的英语水平有限、对译文的理解不深、对外国人的生活习惯和民俗情况不甚了解等原因，导致标牌的译文出现很多错误。因此，本文将分析翻译错误的原因、研究如何正确的翻译，并找出正确的标牌翻译方法。 【关键词】标牌翻译文化差异统一译名 标牌，即日常生活中用于标识的指示牌，上有文字、图案等内容用于指明方向、地点和警示作用，是一种公开的，以达到某种交流目的的特殊语言形式。这些标牌语因受时间和空间的限制，通常以简洁明了为特点。 随着中国的发展，对外经济和文化交流的日益增加，越来越多的外国人来到中国，使英语作为“世界通语”的重要性显得尤为突出。在日常生活中，除了图案标牌外，大部分标牌都写上了对应的英文翻译。机场、旅游景区、五星级大酒店等接待国际友人较多的场合，往往会标上中英法日韩等多国文字，如果不仔细用词，往往会导致外国友人的误解。本文主要讨论的是标牌的英译。
标牌的译文作为一座城市的脸面是留给外国友人的第 一印象，用词的简洁和规范成为了标牌翻译的一个重要守则，而规范、详尽的标牌语体现了一个地区的文明程度。建设国际化大都市，要做到真正的与国际接轨，需要有良好的国际语言环境。如果不仔细揣摩标牌原文的意思，而做出词不达意的译文来，那就贻笑大方了。 在翻译标牌语时首先要认真分析标牌语的语言特点和 功能意义，也需要分析标牌语中包含的文化差异，那样才能让标牌起到它应有的作用。本文中将总结归纳国内标牌翻译时容易犯的几种错误，来更好地认识和提高标牌翻译的水平。 一、用词不当，词义错误 翻译弄错词义，张冠李戴：消防出口在国内的各大酒店、商场都会用荧光灯标出，这么显眼的一个标志在有些地方闹出了不少笑话。有个酒店里防火指示中“evacuate”被错用成“scatter”。Scatter是驱散、撒开，散布的意思，和evacuate 原本的疏散、清空的意思相差千里；某交易市场的“出口”，翻译成“Export”，这是这个词表示的是出口贸易的意思，很明显翻译者没有弄清楚词汇的意思，只是粗略的在翻查字典时看到中文意思就直接借鉴了，而正确的翻译是“Exit”；第二外国语大学“留学生”公寓，翻译成了“Foreign Students”，实际上“International Students”更符合表达规律。

公共场所双语标识英文译法 通则 1 范围 DB11/T 334的本部分规定了公共场所双语标识英文译法的通用原则。 本部分适用于公共场所的英文标识。 2 规范性引用文件 下列文件中的条款通过本部分的引用而成为本部分的条款。凡是注日期的引用文件，其随后所有的修改单（不包括勘误的内容）或修订版均不适用于本部分,然而，鼓励根据本部分达成协议的各方研究是否可使用这些文件的最新版本。凡是不注日期的引用文件，其最新版本适用于本部分。 GB/T 16159 汉语拼音正词法基本规则 3 术语和定义 下列术语和定义适用于本部分。 功能设施 functional facilities 为满足人们在公共场所活动中的需求所提供的基础设施和服务设施，包括具备安全保障、卫生保障、文化体育以及综合服务和接待等功能的设施。 4 一般要求 4.1 公共场所双语标识的英文译法应符合国际通用惯例，遵循英语语言习惯（见附录A）。 4.2 本部分汉语拼音用法应符合GB/T 16159的要求。 4.3 独词 独词路标的英文书写形式依国际惯例全部大写，如出口 EXIT。 4.4 方位词 4.4.1 方位词包括：“东、南、西、北、前、后、中、上、内、外”。其对应的英文译法分别为East （E.），South（S.），West（W.），North（N.），Front，Back，Middle，Upper，Inner，Outer，“东南、西南、东北、西北”其对应的英文译法分别为Southeast, Southwest, Northeast, Northwest。 4.4.2 通常情况下，方位词含有指示方向的意义时应译成英文。 4.4.3 当方位词本身固化为地名的一部分时，方位词采用汉语拼音。如东直门DONGZHIMEN。 4.5 序数词 4.5.1 通常情况下，如需要用序数词表达，其英文写法采用字母上标形式，如1st,2nd, 3rd等、如东三环E. 3rd Ring Rd。 4.5.2 名称中的数字不使用英文序数词形式，应直接使用阿拉伯数字表示，如中关村一桥ZHONGGUANCUN Bridge 1，2号看台Platform 2，3号收银台Cashier 3。 4.6 冠词和介词 双语标识英文译法中尽量不使用冠词和介词，如颐和园Summer Palace，但有些约定俗成的说法和固定用法除外，如天坛Temple of Heaven。 4.7 标点符号 双语标识英文译法中尽量不用任何标点符号，特殊情况除外，如长安大戏院Chang’an Theater，工人体育场Workers’ Stadium；作为缩写形式的Ave，St，Rd和Expwy后均无“.”。
