一、科技英语中的隐喻 (一)隐喻 从词源角度看。英语中metaphor一词来自希腊语，meta含有across,的意思，phor表达carry。所以，metaphor原义为一种“由此及彼”的运动，一种转换。这就隐含着隐喻，必须涉及两种事物。—个作为出发点，一个作为目的地。理查德将前者称为载体(vehicle)后者称为话题“tenor'’。汉语分别将此称为“喻体”与“本体”。关于隐喻，Webster B New World Dictionary作了这样的解释：“a figure of speech containing an implied comparison in which a wont or phrase ordinarily and primarily used for one thing is applied to another”。这一解释简明扼要，即：隐喻是一种隐含着比喻的修辞格。它的通常和基本用法是：表述某一事物的词或词组被用来比喻另外的一种事物。 隐喻是一种普遍现象。人们每时每刻都在使用大量的隐喻。 从研究的范围和方法来看。西方的隐喻研究可以分为兰个不同的时期：1、隐喻的修辞学研究。大约从公元前300年列20世纪30年代。2、隐喻的语义学研究。大约从20世纪3O年代到70年代初，包括从逻辑和哲学角度对隐喻的语义研究和从语言学角度对隐喻的语义研究。3、隐喻的多学科研究。从20世纪70年代至今，包括从认知心理学、哲学、语用学、符号学、现象学、阐释学等角度对隐喻的多角度、多层次研究。到了7O年代后期，欧美，尤其是美国学者。对隐喻的研究达到了高潮。有人将其称为“隐喻狂热”时代。与国外近几年的“隐喻热”相比，我国的隐喻研究就显得十分单薄。对隐喻的定义历来有广义和抉义之分，亚里士多德曾将一切修辞现象称为隐喻性语言；莱考夫等人的隐喻概念也是比较宽泛的。他们把换喻、提喻和反语等都当成隐喻。 (二)隐喻在科技英语中的应用 随着科学技术的发展，新观念、新理论、新技术、新材料层出不穷。需要创造一些新词或原有词语赋予新义。这在很大程度上借助于隐喻化(metaphorization)，体现在两个方面：一是大量科技术语来源于隐喻；二是不少科技术语通过隐喻增加和扩展了它的含义。 l、大量科技术语来源于隐喻 大量科技术语是通过隐喻产生的。主要有如下几种情况： 1)一些日常用语通过隐喻被借用到科技领域，从而具有新的科技意义。以“head”为例。“Head”原本指代人或者动物的一种器官，在字典中定义为“身体的一部分，包括眼、鼻、嘴和脑”；而在科技英语中，“head”指“磁盘的磁头”。对于这两种意义，其指代对象在位置和功能上具有明显的相似性。正是在这个相似点的基础上，单词“head”被隐喻化，意义发生了转移。又如，“memo~”(记也是个常用词，用于计算机，根据其类似的功能。成了接受、储存和提取信息的“存储器”。 2)一个领域的术语，随着科技的发展，被用于另一领域，产生新的词义。例如．Information Highway 息高速公路)，是把运输领域的概念形象地应用到信息领域。再如：“lay by”这个词最初用于航运，是指河流或运河的一段宽阔水域。船只可以在那里停泊。

龙源期刊网 https://www.doczj.com/doc/ac9822164.html, 隐喻的翻译策略研究 作者：齐芷玥 来源：《文存阅刊》2018年第12期 摘要：《长恨歌》是唐代诗人白居易的具有代表性的叙事长诗，其中的隐喻众多，且包含了深厚的汉民族文化内涵。本文以唐代诗人白居易的代表作《长恨歌》的英译本为例，探讨《长恨歌》中隐喻的翻译策略，总结切实可行的隐喻翻译方法。 关键词：隐喻；《长恨歌》；翻译策略 一、《长恨歌》简介 《长恨歌》是白居易“感伤诗”中的经典之作，创作于唐宪宗元和六年，全诗总长120句，属于七言歌行体。该诗故事情节婉转曲折，叙事艺术精巧独特，情致缠绵悱恻。 二、隐喻的翻译策略研究 《长恨歌》中出现了很多经典的隐喻，比如“玉颜”“倾国”“比翼鸟”“连理枝”等。这些隐喻的翻译处理对古诗中隐喻的翻译有很大的借鉴意义。 （一）直译法 在诗句“在天愿作比翼鸟，在地愿为连理枝”是写唐玄宗和杨贵妃当年在长生殿的誓词。来看一下不同译者对此处的处理： 1.“We swore that in the heaven above， we never would disport One tomb on earth enclose of us，the frail and mortal part” 2.“On high，we’d between lovebirds flying wing to wing； On earth，tow trees with branches twined from spring to spring” 从上面的四个版本的翻译可以看出，Fletcher采用了意译的方式，没有翻译出“比翼鸟”和“连理枝”，而是直接翻译出了两个词的深层含义。虽然在意义表达上没有问题，可是这种翻译忽略了文化层面的含义，失去了诗词的美感和精髓。相比之下，其他的3位译者都采用了直译的方式翻译出了“比翼鸟”和“连理枝”。从中可以看出，有时为了引起读者的阅读兴趣，直译是很有必要的，而且这种翻译方法也在最大程度上保留了中国文化的精髓和特色。 （二）意译法

浅析隐喻的英汉翻译 【摘要】说明在翻译实践这一特殊形式的跨文化交际中如何有效地解读隐喻。 【关键词】隐喻理解；翻译 一、引言 隐喻翻译是一项以语言为载体的跨文化交际活动，也是将一种语言所承载的信息传递到另一种语言中去的主体性交往行为。它以“理解”为核心，语言为基础，融社会批判理论、普通语用学、社会进化理论为统一构架。 二、隐喻的解读 隐喻是一种语言使用现象，在“词典中找不到隐喻”。从现代隐喻学观点来看，隐喻现象应在形式上搭配异常，在语义上类属不同，逻辑错位，从而产生了语义冲突，而当听者对冲突产生回应时，便生成了隐喻的意义，即理解了某一隐喻式言语。对于隐喻的运作机制，有人曾作过这样描述：“隐喻涉及两个不同领域(范畴)的概念，隐喻意义的产生是两个概念之间相互作用的结果。这一相互作用通过映射的方式进行。在映射过程中，属于某一领域的相关概念和结构被转移到另一领域，最终形成一种经过合成的新的概念结构，即隐喻意义。而这一映射和整合过程的基础是两个领域在某些方面的相似性。”这无疑表明对隐喻的理解需要双重划分。 隐喻的理解过程应由两部分组成：隐喻的辨认和隐喻意义的推断。事实上这就是一个由一级理解进人二级理解的过程。举一个人们常提到的例子“The tongue is a fire”来说，从表述层理解(一级理解)，”tongue”被美国传统词典这样定义：”the fleshy，movable, muscular organ, attached in most vertebrates to the floor of the mouth, that is principal organ of taste,important organ of speech”。我们可以认为舌头作为人体的一个重要器官，首先具有与绝大多数脊椎动物一样的味觉和辅助咀嚼及吞食的功能，除此之外，还是具有言说能力的人的重要语言器官。以这个基本意义为中心，tongue一词背后形成了一个庞大的意义集合：它可以指形状像舌头的东西，例如tongue of flame(火舌)，guiding tongue(铁路导向尖轨)，switch tong(开关铜片)，而hold one’s tongue (keep silent), lose one’s tongue (lose the capacity to speak, as from shock)中指人的言说行为和言说能力。这一言语行为中的另一个关键词fire，在美国传统词典里可以义;” a rapid, persistent chemical change that releases heat and light and is accompanied与flame”。同样，在它背后的意义集合中可以找到诸如，cooking fire(炊火)，forest fire(森林火灾)，wild fire(野火)等火的具体形态。也可以发现其它意义，如The boy is full of fire(这男孩非常热情兴奋)，He was under fire for mismanagement(因管理不善而受到责难)。 当tongue和fire这两个背负着各自庞大意义集合的词语被嵌入A is B的基
