专有名词和事物名词的常用翻译方法 我们在英译汉时，常常会碰到一些专有名词和事物名词。对于这些词，有时我们可以在字典或其他工具书里找到相对应的译词，有时则需要译者自己灵活掌握。我们在翻译这些专有名词和事物名词时，经常采用表意法、谐音法、表形法、谐音加表意法、部分谐音部分表意法等五种方法，其中表意法和谐音法用得最为广泛。 一、表意法（semantic translation） 这是最常用的一种译法，即在汉语中找出同原词含义相同的词。在大多数情况下，我们是可以在字典或其他工具书里找到相应的译词的。如： computer：计算机 magnifier：放大镜 perambulator：童车 transformer：变压器 有时我们可以用表意法将英语中两个或两个以上的名词仅从字面上翻译成汉语中的一个词或名词性词组。一般情况下，译文和原文的含义是相符的。如： down coat；羽绒服 moon cake：月饼 table cloth：桌布 head worker：脑力劳动者 应当注意，这种情况下的表意法不是绝对靠得住的。因为有时当英语中两个或两个以上名词固定搭配在一起时，他们表示的可能是与字面意思完全不同的另外一个意思。此时我们就不能仅从字面上去表意，而应深入一步从含义和惯用法上去表意。如： honey cooler不能译为“甜冷饮”，而应译为“讨好女人的男子”；

专有名词和事物名词的常用翻译方法(转) (2011-08-08 01:16:34) 转载▼ 标签： 分类：儿童教育 儿童英语教育 教育 育儿 我们在英译汉时，常常会碰到一些专有名词和事物名词。对于这些词，有时我们可以在字典或其他工具书里找到相对应的译词，有时则需要译者自己灵活掌握。我们在翻译这些专有名词和事物名词时，经常采用表意法、谐音法、表形法、谐音加表意法、部分谐音部分表意法等五种方法，其中表意法和谐音法用得最为广泛。 一、表意法（semantic translation） 这是最常用的一种译法，即在汉语中找出同原词含义相同的词。在大多数情况下，我们是可以在字典或其他工具书里找到相应的译词的。如：computer：计算机magnifier：放大镜 perambulator：童车transformer：变压器 有时我们可以用表意法将英语中两个或两个以上的名词仅从字面上翻译成汉语中的一个词或名词性词组。一般情况下，译文和原文的含义是相符的。如：down coat；羽绒服moon cake：月饼 table cloth：桌布head worker：脑力劳动者 应当注意，这种情况下的表意法不是绝对靠得住的。因为有时当英语中两个或两个以上名词固定搭配在一起时，他们表示的可能是与字面意思完全不同的另
外一个意思。此时我们就不能仅从字面上去表意，而应深入一步从含义和惯用法上去表意。如： honey cooler不能译为“甜冷饮”，而应译为“讨好女人的男子”； night cart不能译为“夜车”，而应译为“粪车”； hand money不能译为“手中之财”，而应译为“定金、保证金”； fish story不能译为“钓鱼故事”，而应译为“牛皮、大话”； dog days不能译为“狗的日子”，而应译为“三伏天”； cat suit不能译为“猫服”，而应译为“喇叭裤”； pig head不能译为“猪头”，而应译为“顽固分子”； pig tail不能译为“猪尾巴”，而应译为“辫子”： donkey’s breakfast不能译为“驴子的早餐”，而应译为“草垫”。 二、谐音法（transliteration） 谐音法就是用汉语中同原词发音相近的字来翻译原词。这种方法多用来翻译人名、地名、药名、计量单位以及一些从外国传入中国的药品的名称。如： 1．译人名 Marx：马克思到Shakespeare：莎士比亚 Bacon：培根Einstein：爱因斯坦 2．译地名 Vienna：维也纳Berlin：柏林 Cyprus：塞浦路斯Somalia：索马里 3．译药名 aspirin：阿斯匹林analgin：安乃静 quinine：奎宁procaine：普鲁卡因

1.入土为安 中文解释：入土为安意思是土葬，人死后埋入土中，死者方得安息。 英文翻译：1.Burial brings peace to the deceased. 2.Prayer brings peace to the deceased. 文化内涵:它最初的意思是，在原始社会，有族人死去，只是将遗体扔在野外，后来人们发现遗体会被野兽吃掉，后用草席包裹，然也会被野兽扒开，再后来就进入棺椁时期，将遗体放在棺材中埋在地下，才能在一定程度上避免受自然环境的侵蚀。因此死者才能得到安息。 文化差异：中国民间传统的丧葬方式是土葬，把人装入棺材，然后埋入土中。西方丧葬礼俗主要受基督教文化的影响。基督教将每一个人的灵魂直接与上帝发生关系，崇尚灵魂升华而轻视肉体，西方的丧葬风俗是简丧薄葬。因此虽然西方也有土葬形式，但是基督教的丧礼更多重视的是为死者祈祷，祝其灵魂早日升人天堂，解脱生前痛苦。所以丧葬仪式的必要程序是先把棺材运人教堂，由一位教士念悼词并为死者祈祷。因此我们认为在翻译过程中，如果异化，则翻译出“祈祷”。 2.含笑九泉： 中文解释:在九泉之下满含笑容。表示死后也感到欣慰和高兴。九泉：地下深处，旧指人死之后埋葬的地方。也作：“黄泉”。 英文翻译：1.to smile under the Jiuquan(Jiuquan: In China, it is a place under the earth where people are believed to go when they die) 2.to smile in the Heaven 文化内涵：它是出自清·李汝珍的《镜花缘》第三回:“我儿前去，得能替我出半臂之劳，我亦含笑九泉。”九泉，即黄泉，古代认为天地玄黄，而泉在地下，所以称为黄泉。在中国道家文化中是指人死后所往之地，也就是阴曹地府。“九”是个位数中最长的数字。因此我国古代常用“九”表示多、大、极的意思。“阴曹地府”在很深的地下，于是就把“九”字和“泉”字相搭配，成为“九泉”。 还有一种说法，古代犯了死罪的人，需要被砍头，而这个时候就需要刽子手来执行，刀法好的刽子手，在砍下人头后，死者的头颅会掉在地上转九圈，然后嘴角上扬带着笑容。这就表示，死者在接受刑法时受到的痛苦最少，“含笑九圈”的说法也就成了现在的含笑九泉。 文化差异：西方的生死观和宗教有很大关系，人们认为人生来有罪，活着是赎罪，死了是进如天堂，灵魂回到上帝那里。而我们中国人认为人死后是去到地下的阴曹地府。所以在翻译时，如果采用异化，，则应翻译出“九泉”，如果归化，则应翻译成“天堂”。
