Is it food for your heart? Does it increase blood pressure? Does it help you concentrate? However, coffee affects the health of the human p opulation in other ways, too.Traditionally, coffee bushes were planted under the canopy(树冠)of taller indigenous(土生土长的)trees. However, more and more farmers inLatin America are deforesting the land to grow full-sun coffees. At first, this increases production because more coffee bushes can be planted ifthere aren’t any trees. With increased production come i ncreased profits.Unfortunately, deforesting for coffee production immediately decreases local-wildlife habitat. Native birds nest and hide frompredators(捕食者)in the tall trees and migrating birds rest there.Furthermore, in the long term, the full-sun method also damages the ecosystem because more chemical fertilizers and pesticides are neededto grow the coffee. The fertilizers and pesticides kill insects that eat coffee plant, but then the birds eat the poisoned insects and also die.The chemicals kill or sicken other animals as well, and can even enterthe water that people will eventually drink.Fortunately, farmers in Central and South America are beginning togrow more coffee bushes in the shade. We can support these farmers bybuying coffee with such labels as "shade grown" and "bird friendly." Sure, these varieties might cost a little more. But we're paying for the health of the birds, the land, ourselves, and the planet. I think it's worthit.31.【题干】What is the main idea of this passage?【选项】A.Farmers are changing the way they grow coffee.B.Coffee is becoming more expensive to produce.C.Shade-grow coffee is more expensive than sun-grow coffee.D.People should buy shade-grown coffee.【答案】A32.【题干】The function of the word "Traditionally" in Paragraph 2 isto show_____.【选项】A.the positive effects of coffee.B.a change of coffee growth.C.something that is the most important.D.how coffee production used to be.【答案】B33.【题干】What does increased production of full-sun coffee bring about?【选项】A.More insects.B.Better quality coffee.rger farms.D.Higher profits.【答案】D34.【题干】How d o farmers find more land for growing full-sun coffee?【选项】A.They buy more land from other farmers.B.They cut down trees.C.They move to another country.D.They turn grassland into farmland.【答案】B35.【题干】The full-sun method may affect the following EXCEPT_____【选项】A.insects.B.air.C.brids.D.humans.【答案】B第二篇:Washoe Learned American Sign LanguageAn animal that influenced scientific thought has died. A chimpanzee named Washoe and born in Africa died of natural causes late last monthat the age of 42 at a research center in the American state of Washington. Washoe h ad become k nown in the scientific community and around the world for her ability to use American Sign Language. She was said to be thefirst non-human to learn a human l anguage. Her skills also led to debate about primates and their ability to understand language.Research scientists Allen and Beatrix Gardner began teaching Washoe sign language in 1966.In 1969, the Gardners described Washoe's progress in a scientific report. The people who experimented with Washoe s aid she grew to understand about 250 words. For example, Washoe made signs to communicate when i t was time to eat. She could request foods like apples and bananas. She also asked questions like," Who i s coming to play?" Once the news about Washoe spread, many language scientists began studies oftheir own into this new a nd exciting area of research. The whole directionof primate research changed. However, critics argued Washoe o nly learned to repeat sign language movements from watching her teachers. They said she had never developedtrue language skills. Even now, there are some researchers who suggestthat primates learn sign language only by memory, and perform the signsonly for prizes. Yet Washoe's keepers disagree. Roger Fouts is a formerstudent of the Gardners. He took Washoe to a research center in Ellensburg, Washington. There, Washoe taught sign language to three younger chimpanzees, which are still alive.Scientists like private researcher Jane Goodall believe Washoerprovided new information about the mental workings of chimpanzees. Today, there are not as many scientists studying language skills withchimps. Part of the reason is that this kind of research takes a verylong time.Debate continues about chimps understanding of human c ommunication. Yet, one thing is sure-Washoe changed popular ideas about the possibilities of animal intelligence.36.【题干】The Gardners' experiment with Washoe_____.【选项】A.began in 1969.B.won a big prize.sted three yearsD.influenced primate research【答案】D【查看文字解析>>】37. 【题干】The second paragraph mainly discusses _____.【选项】A.a report about Washoe's progress in learning sign language.B.the whole direction of primate research.C.new primate researches conducted by many language scientific.D.an experiment with Washoe at a research center in Africa.【答案】A【查看文字解析>>】38. 【题干】The Gardners' experiment with Washoe was criticized because _____.【选项】A.just ask some simple question.B.only copy teachers' sign language.C.only memorize about 250 words.D.just repeat short sentences.【答案】B【查看文字解析>>】39. 【题干】According to the passage ,which of the following is true?【选项】A.Roger Fouts taught sign language to three younger chimpanzees.B.Washoe was the first chim to use American Sign Language.C.A chimpanzee died of natural causes in Africa at a research center.D.Nowadays there are still lots of scientists experimenting with chimpanzees.【答案】B40. 【题干】We can draw a conclusion from the last paragraph that_____.【选项】A.whether chimps can learn a human language remains unanswer.B.primates have the ability to speak a language.C.animals can's learn a human sign.D.Washoe is as intelligent as humans.【答案】C第三篇:Moderate Earthquake Strikes EnglandA moderate earthquake struck parts of southeast England on 28 April2007, toppling chimneys from houses and rousing residents from their beds. Musson predicted that it was only a matter of time before another earthquake struck this part of England. However, people should not bescared too much b y this prediction, Musson s aid, as the modern earthquake warning system of Britain should be able to detect a forthcoming quakeand announce it several hours before it takes place. The Polynesian Voyaging Society had organised the expedition. Its purpose was to find out if seafarers (海员)in the distant past could have found their way from one island to the other without navigational instruments, or whether the islands had been populated by accident. At the time, Mau was the only man alive who knew how to navigate just by observing the stars, the wind and the sea.He had never before sailed to Tahiti, which was a long way to the south. However, he understood how the wind and the sea behave around islands, so he was confident he could find his way. The voyage took him and his crew a month to complete and he did it without a compass or charts. His grandfather began the task of teaching him how to navigate when he was still a baby. He showed him pools of water on the beach to teach him how the behaviour of the waves and wind changed in different places. Later, Mau used a circle of stones to memorise the positions of the stars. Each stone was laid out in the sand to represent a star. The voyage proved that Hawaii's first inhabitants came in small boats and navigated by reading the sea and the stars. Mau himself became a keen teacher, passing on his traditional secrets to people of other cultures so that his knowledge would not be lost. He explained the positions of the stars to his students, but he allowed them to write things down because he knew they would never be able to remember everything as he had done.16 At the time of his voyage, Mau had unique navigational skills.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned正确答案:A17 Mau was familiar with the sea around Tahiti.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned正确答案:B18 Mau could not afford a compass or charts.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned正确答案:C19 Mau learnt navigation skills from his grandfather.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned正确答案:A20 Mau used stones to memorise where the stars were situated in the sky.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned正确答案:A21 The first inhabitants of Hawaii could read and writeA RightB WrongC Not mentioned正确答案:C22 Mau expected his students to remember the positions of the stars immediatelyA RightB WrongC Not mentioned正确答案:B第3部分:概括大意与完成句子(第23~30题,每题1分,共8分)下面的短文后有2项测试任务:(1)第23~26题要求从所给的6个选项中为第1~4段每段1选择个最佳标题;(2)第27~30题要求从所给的6个选项中为每个句子确定1个最佳选项。

Visitors at Jamestown settlement can walk through copies of the three small sailing ships that carried colonists to Virginia and even lie down in a c olonist’s bed. The colonists stayed on the crowded dangerous ships for more than four months. When they got to Virginia, they built an area of houses with a high wall around it. Women in long dresses work inside their homes, and visitors can help them with their sewing and cooking. There is also an Indian village at Jamestown settlement, and it looks very different from the fort. It shows how the Indians lived in long houses and grew corn and other crops in large fields. Actors there make pottery(陶器) and teach visitors how to play Indian games. I’d always wanted to work for myself, and I was a bit fed up with working for someone else, so I said yes. Primarily, I wanted the freedom to make my own decisions, I wanted room to be creative, and also I wanted to be able to get the credit and keep the profits if things went wrong. These things are not possible if you work as an employee in a large organization.I had to borrow money to help start the business, but we were lucky because we also had some outside capital to put into the business. These days it can be really hard to persuade banks to lend money to people who want to start a company, so we were fortunate. It was fairly easy to set up the business, because we had a very clear idea of what we wanted to do. The problem was, all our preconceptions about what it would be like to run a business were wrong. We made lots of mistakes, and we almost went bankrupt at the beginning. At one point, we only had two students in the school.Far too long. We lost money for the first four years and, as I was saying, we nearly went out of business. It took quite a long time to start making profit. The best thing we did, though, was that we hired some really good people to work for us. In fact, some of those people are still working for us, 24 years later. Now we’re doing well, but it was very risky at first. One is financial constraint. It can be very tough. I think all small businesses problems-it often takes a long time to get paid by your customers. The and big problem is marketing. It takes a lot of funds to market your business, and you to get your name known and build a reputation. But the biggest challenge is the people. All businesses are about people, and you have to learn how to all kinds of people –and I think we’ve been extremely good at getting the best staff.23. paragraph 124. paragraph 225. paragraph 326. paragraph 4A. strategies in expanding a small businessB. right people to run a businessC. time-consuming experience of being successfulD. challenges of running a businessE. difficulties in starting the businessF. reasons for working for oneself27. if you made a bad decision as a boss, you had28. the difficult thing to start a business is to persuade banks29. if you hire the right people, you’ll probably be able30. besides financial and marketing challenges, you must know howA. to lose your houseB. to manage your employeesC. to keep independentD. to lend you moneyE. to take the responsibility for itF. to make profit第四部分阅读理解第1篇Why Buy Shade-Grown Coffee?(为什么要购买蔽光生长的咖啡? 综合BC级均有)When people argue about whether coffee is good for health, they're usually thinking of the health of the coffee drinker. Is it food for your heart? Does it increase blood pressure? Does it help you concentrate? However, coffee affects the health of the human population in other ways, too.Traditionally, coffee bushes were planted under the canopy(树冠)of taller indigenous(土生土长的)trees. However, more and more farmers in Latin America are deforesting the land to grow full-sun coffees. At first, this increases production because more coffee b ushes can be planted if there aren’t any trees. With increased production come increased profits.Unfortunately, deforesting for coffee production immediately decreases local-wildlife habitat. Native birds nest and hide from predators(捕食者)in the tall trees and migrating birds rest there.Furthermore, in the long term, the full-sun method also damages the ecosystem because more chemical fertilizers and pesticides are needed to grow the coffee. The fertilizers and pesticides kill insects that eat coffee plant, but then the birds eat the poisoned insects and also die. The chemicals kill or sicken other animals as well, and can even enter the water that people will eventually drink.Fortunately, farmers in Central and South America are beginning to grow more coffee bushes in the shade. We can support these farmers by buying coffee with such labels as "shade grown" and "bird friendly." Sure, these varieties might cost a little more. But we're paying for the health of the birds, the land, ourselves, and the planet. I think it's worth it.31. They can leave you embarrassed and without energy. However, crying is a fact of life, and tears are very useful. These create a film over the eye's surface. This film contains a substance that protects your eyes against infection.Tears relieve stress, but we tend to fight them for all sorts of reasons."People worry about showing their emotions. They're afraid that once they lose control, they'll never get it back," explains psychologist Dorothy Rowe." As adults we still fear the consequences of showing emotions."Almost any emotion-good or bad, happy or sad-can cause tears. Crying is a way that we release built-up emotions. Tears help you when you feel you are ready to explode because of very strong feelings. When some people become very stressed, however, they can't cry. They may be feeling shock, anger, fear, or grief, but they repress the emotion."Everyone has the need to cry," says? psychotherapist Vera Diamond. Sometimes in therapy sessions, patients participate in crying exercises. Diamond says it's best to cry in safe, private places, like under the bedcovers or in the car. That's because many people get uncomfortable when others cry in front of them. In fact, they may be repressing their own need to cry.In certain situations, such as at work, tears are not appropriate. "But once you are safely behind closed doors, don't just cry," Diamond says. She suggests that you act out the whole situation again and be as noisyand angry as you like. It will help you feel better."And," she adds," once your tears have released the stress, you can begin to think of logical ways to deal with the problem."Tears are a sign of our ability to feel.
