Passage Two
Rodger, a professor, is using the power of storytelling to attract young students into programming(编程). An animation(动画) program called “Alice” allows students to create their own worlds without realizing they’re actually programming and learning knowledge in computer science.

Passage Three
This is a story about one kind of sea mammal(哺乳动物), big business, fishing boats, sandwiches and kids.
Fishermen catch big tuna(金枪鱼) for the canning companies. They used to set out their nets when they saw dolphins(海豚), which often swim with tuna.
When tuna swam into the nets, dolphins were also caught. They could not escape to the surface to breathe air. Before fishermen could pull in the nets, the dolphins had drowned.
People interested in dolphins protested at this practice. They asked everyone to persuade the big tuna-canning companies to stop the killing.

Passage Four
Colleges in Washington are trying to help protect the environment on campus. Campus restaurants are serving locally grown foods, green fruits and vegetables. Passage Five
Learning vocabulary is a very important part of learning a language. The more words you know, the more you will be able to understand what you hear and read; and the better you will be able to say what you want to when speaking or writing.
There are many ways for learning vocabulary. For example, writing the words with their translations in a notebook or on small cards, saying the words many times after you have checked the pronunciations of the words on dictionary, putting the words into different groups, making associations(联想) in pictures or with other words, using the words in your own speaking of writing as many times as possible.
In all of the above ways, you are doing something with the words. It’s usually not enough to just read through a list of words with their translations and try to remember them. Most students find that they memorize words better if they do something with them. Even better is to try and learn the word used with other words. Learning that “to apologize” means “to say sorry”is a good start, but it’s much better to learn a whole expression with the word. For example, he apologized for being late.
