Pack of Stray Dogs Stand Guard at Animal Lover's Funeral

A woman who spent her life caring for stray dogs(流浪狗) received an unexpected -- and surprising -- tribute from the animals when she died.

At the funeral for Margarita Suárez in Cuernavaca Morelos, Mexico, there was a pack of stray dogs who came inside the funeral home to stand guard. Suárez's daughter Patricia Urrutia told ABC News that they were shocked, but delighted by the appearance of the canine celebrants.

Adding to the other-worldliness of the situation(为这件事更添现实人情味的是) was the fact that these stray dogs were not even the same ones that her 71-year-old mother had helped during her lifetime. Suárez lived in Merida Yucatan, but her funeral service was in a town more than 830 miles away, her daughter said.

"They stayed with my mother all day, and then at night they all stayed- but In the morning all the dogs vanished but one, but one hour before we brought my mom to be cremated the dogs came back and grouped around as if to say goodbye," Urrutia told ABC News. "I swear by God that it was beautiful, marvelous."

Parents beware! Baby names have a lasting effect on our behavior throughout our lives - and influence everything from where we live to what career paths we choose Parents often agonize(纠结)over what names they give their children; they may be trying to spare their child from cruel schoolyard rhymes or attempting to connect their being to a meaningful symbol or place.

But a new video is bringing to light key research which indicates that the names we are given at birth can actually have even more long-term affects on our lives than you may think - from our choice of profession to where we end up in the world. In fact, this research even suggests that we may not have much real control over our own life decisions at all.

According to studies compiled for the latest edition of PBS Digital Studios' BrainCraft series, the act of writing our names over and over again throughout our lives can result in something called implicit egotism – a kind of obsession(痴迷)with the letters and sounds involved in our own names .

'The more we are merely exposed to something, like those letters, the more we like them,' explains BrainCraft host Vanessa Hill in the video.

This means that we may be more attracted to places, careers and even people that have a link to the letters used in our names. The study BrainCraft cites in its video - authored by researchers Polman, Pollmann and Poehlman, of course - calls this idea the name-letter effect(姓名字母效应).

IT HAS been less than a week since the catastrophic loss of Germanwings Flight 9525 and its precious cargo of 144 passengers and six crew. In that short time investigators have pointed the finger of blame squarely at Andreas Lubitz, the 27-year-old first officer who appears to have locked his captain out of the flight deck and deliberately crashed the plane into the French Alps. Though incomprehensible(不可理喻), his gruesome deed is not without precedent(先例)for commercial pilots.

Fear of falling victim to such evil will, inevitably, plaguethe minds of the 9m passengers who take to the skies each day. It will take time to remove their concerns. But one Germanwings pilot has already started the healing process, unburdening his heart with emotional, pre-flight speeches to passengers. Britta Englisch, who flew with the airline the day after the crash, posted her experience on Facebook :

Yesterday morning at 8:40am, I got onto a Germanwings flight from Hamburg to Cologne with mixed feelings. But then the captain not only welcomed each passenger separately, he also made a short speech before take-off. Not from the cockpit, he was standing in the cabin.

He spoke about how the accident touched him and the whole crew. About how queasy the crew feels, but that everybody from the crew is voluntarily here. And about his family, and that the crew have a family, and that he is going to do everything to be with his family again tonight. It was completely silent. And then everybody applauded.

I want to thank this pilot. He understood what everybody was thinking. And he managed to give me, at least, a good feeling for this flight.

28 March 2015 –The United Nations will go dark later this evening as the Organization shuts off the lights at its iconic Headquarters complex in New York and other facilities around the world in observance of 'Earth Hour,' an annual global event raising awareness about the need to take action on climate change and promoting sustainable energy consumption.

In a video message, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said: “Climate change is a people problem. People cause climate change and people suffer from climate change. People can also solve climate change. Earth Hour shows what is possible when we unite in support of our environment.”

Organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour encourages individuals, companies, organizations and Governments to switch off their lights for one hour at 8:30 p.m., local time worldwide, to focus attention on people-driven solutions to protecting the planet and building a bright, sustainable future.

The Secretary-General notes that this coming December in Paris, the United Nations will bring countries together to agree a new, universal and meaningful climate accord, culminating a “year of action” on sustainable development.“By turning out the lights, we highlight that more than 1 billion people lack access to electricity. Their future well-being requires access to clean, affordable energy,” said Mr. Ban, stressing that with the world's lights being switched off, Earth Hour shows what is possible when the international community unites in support of a cause.

As students, we should enhance our awareness of safety — that is, being aware of safety issues and of potential hazards in our daily life. M: Yes, I prepared it as much as I could, but I was so nervous since it was my second try. The people who worked at the test center were very kind, though. We had a little conversation which calmed me down a bit, and that was just what I needed. Then, after the exam, they printed out my result, but I was afraid to open it until I was outside. It was such a relief to pass. W: Congratulations! I knew you could do it! (9) I guess you underestimated how difficult it would be the first time, didn’t you? I hear a lot of people make that mistake and go in underprepared. But g ood job in passing the second time. I’m so proud of you. Now all you have to do next is your road test. Have you had any lessons yet? M: (10) Yes, thanks. I’m so happy to be actually on the road now. I’ve only had two driving lessons so far and my instruc tor is very understanding. So I’m really enjoying it and I can’t wait for my next session although the lessons are rather expensive. Twenty pounds an hour, and the instructor says, I’ll need about 30 to 40 lessons in total. That’s what--six to eight hundred pounds! (11) So this time I’ll need to make a lot more effort and hopefully will be successful the first time. M: Well, good luck! 8. M: Ok, so that’s about 17,000 dollars for the tuition and fees. (13) Anyway, I’m only going to be th ere for a year doing my masters, so it’s pretty good. If I stayed in the US, it’d take two years and cost at least 50,000 dollars in tuition alone. M: Are you still planning on being a teacher? No money in that job then? W: You’d be surprised. (15) I’m still going to be a teacher. But the plan is to work at an international school overseas after I get a year or so of experience in England. It’s better paid and I get to travel, which reminds me I’m late for my class and I’ve got some documents I need to print out first. I’d better run. 12. What does the man want to know? 13.

1)With the expansion of industrialization, requirement for energy all over the world is on the rise.(随着工业化进程的发展,全世界的能源需求都在增加。) 2)Once lushly forested, this region has seen more than 80% of its original vegetation cut down or burned. 3)To reach millions of people who watch television, advertisers are willing to pay big money.

I read a novel yesterday.和"It was extremely Interesting." The novel I read yesterday was extremely interesting." I saw a man this morning."和"The man is my teacher."改为"The man I saw this morning is my teacher."把"I saw a film last night."和"The film was very amusing."改为"The film I saw last night was very amusing." A:Did you enjoy the opera? A:The one we saw last night,of course. B:Yes,very much. A:Do you know who Edgar Snow was?(一般问句;名词从句) B:Yes,he was an American writer who interviewed Chairman Mao in Beijing.(定语从句)

Long conversation 1 W: Kale, how did your drivers theory exam go? It was yeasterday right? M: Yes, I prepared as much as I could, but I was so nervous since it was my second trying. The people who worked at the test center were very kind. Though we had a little conversation which calmed me down a bit. And that what I just needed. Then after the exam they printed out my result but I was so afraid to open it until I was outside. It was a relief to pass. W: Congratulations.I knew you could do it. I guess you underestimated how difficult it would be the first time, didn’t you? I hear a lot of people make that mistake and go in underprepared but good job in passing the second time. I’m so proud of you. Now all you have to do next is your road test. Have you had any lessons yet? M: Yes. Thanks. I’m so happy to be actually on the road now. I’ve only had two driving lessons so far and my instructor is very understanding, so I’m really enjoying it and I can’t wait for my next session although the lessons are rather expensive. 20 pounds an hour and the instructor says I’ll need about 30 to 40 lessons in total, that’s what six to eight hundred pounds. So this is time I’ll need to make a lot more effort and hopefully we’ll be successful the first time. W: Well, good luck. Long conversation 2 M: University of Leeds. Since you’re going to university in England. Do you know how much it is for international students to study there? W: Congratulations. Yes, I believe for international students you will have to pay around thirteen thousand pounds a year. It’s just a bit more than the local students. M: OK, so that’s about seventeen thousand dollars for the tuition and fees. Anyway I’m only going to be there for a year doing my masters. So it’s pretty good. If I stayed in the US, it would take two years and cost at least fifty thousand dollars intuition alone. Also, have a good chance of winning a scholarship at Leeds which would be pretty awesome. The benefits of being a music genius. W: Yeah I heard you’re a talented piano player. So you’re doing a postgraduate degree now. I’m still in my last year, graduating next June. Finally I’ll be done with my studies and could go on to earning loads of money. M: Are you still planning on being a teacher? No money in that job then. W: You’d be surprised I’m still going to be a teacher but the plan is to work at an international school overseas after I get a year or so of experience in England. It’s better pay and I get to travel which reminds me I’m late for my class and I’ve got some documents I need to print out first. I’d better run.
