The End of Life?

As people’s purchasing power increase rapidly, commodities which used to be regarded as luxuries have become common household appliances. Take air-conditioner for example, twenty years ago, ordinary Chinese saw them only in western movies. Now, it is difficult to avoid one in cities like Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and even Harbin. As a result, many people believe air-conditioners will replace electric fans in 5 years’ time. In other words, as a product, the electric fan will soon come to the end of its life. The market seems to support such a prediction because the sales of electric fans has been falling steadily in the past two year.

Questions

77.Do you think that electric fan has come to the end of its life? Explain your answer. (5 points)

78.Can you think of other products which are believed to have come to the end of their lives? (3 points)

What’s Wrong?

Before becoming the typing pool supervisor of Tianyi Translation Service, Feng Meiying had a similar job in a big law firm. She quit that job for two reasons. The one she openly spoke about was that her new home was bit too far from the firm, which was true. The reason that she kept to herself was that it was increasingly difficult for her to manage the typing pool. Tardiness was widespread, and absenteeism serious. The quality of the work often upset the most tolerant lawyers of the firm.

She was a skilled typist herself. Moreover, she always worked “by her conscience” and never needed to be told to work hard. She felt that other people were the same. Therefore, she treated the typist of that law firm as equal, and talked to them with respect. She never used punishment when a typist made a mistake or came to the office late, because she believed that typist would be more careful or more punctual next time.

On her way to the new job, Feng suddenly realized that she was wrong because she had not behaved like a boss, and that it made no sense to be so nice to subordinates, because some people are born lazy and careless. In her new position, she was determined she should be tough and behave like a real boss so that the subordinates would take her seriously. Question

78.Was Feng wrong when she blamed herself for not behaving like a boss? Explain your point. (4 points)

80. Was Feng right when she made up her mind to be tough so that the subordinates would show her respect? What would you suggest to her? (6 points)

一、Part One: Economics, please answer the following questions (10% each, 30%) 1、Please explain how absolute advantage and comparative advantage differ, and give an example in which one person has an absolute advantage in doing something but another person has a comparative advantage. Answer: Comparative advantage means compare the cost of a country's production of the same unit of a product is relatively lower than other countries, the country in the production of this product has a comparative advantage. The absolute advantage refers to the resources of a national production of the same unit of a product used in the production of another country less than similar goods. There must be a comparative advantage absolute advantage, comparative advantage does not necessarily have an absolute advantage. Economics use the term absolute advantage when comparing the productivity of one person firm or nation to that of another. while comparative advantage is based on the relative opportunity costs of the persons, firms, or nations Trade can benefit everyone in society because it allows people to specialise in activities in which they have a comparative advantage. Example: Suppose country A were to produce one unit of wine and cloth time of two hours and one hour, B country is one hour and two hours, on the fabric production, A state-owned absolute advantage; in the wine production, B-owned absolute advantage. A country is assumed to produce one unit of each wine and cloth time of two hours and one hour, B country to six hours and two hours. A consideration from the country, the production level is three times the wine country B, the production level is twice cloth country B, compared to wine and cloth, A country has a comparative advantage in the production of wine.
