ReadingMakes a Full Man

Reading, as millions of people emphasize its significance, still enjoys its supremacy through the long history. In the 17th century, one of the world’s most eminent philosophers and thinkers Francis Bacon put it well by saying “Reading makes a full man.” This exactly conveys the essence of reading, as well as the importance and necessity of reading.

Reading benefits us a lot in almost every aspects of life, and in every walk of life. First, reading, shining a light in our world, adds much flavor to our daily life. The modern society is characterized by rapid pace, thus people in such a society have to cope with a great deal of pressure from either outer world or inner will. Then reading a book may eventually ease the burden and pressure. Second, reading widens our knowledge and broadens our horizon. We can obtain the knowledge and experience via reading, which we may never know or encounter in our actual life. Often, the things written in the books are the teachings and lessons which our predecessors endow us. Third, reading more books enriches our personality and enhances our whole characteristics. As we all know, books on different subjects can strongly shape our inclination and mature our thoughts.

T o sum up, books are partners and teachers in our life, and just as the saying goes “Reading makes a full man.”, we should make full use of them.

Readingmakes a full man

As old sayings goes, “within books, one can find houses of gold; within books, one can find ladies as fair as jade”, we know people can enrich their minds by a large amount of reading. In general, reading does us more goods, for it cultures our thinking as well as brings us joy of soul and body. Thus I am quite in favor of the view that reading makes a full man.

Reading offers us opportunities to touch some other fields we have never

been familiar with. We are usually interested in books we love and each of them must touch upon some other knowledge we dodn’t know. Thus, through the process of reading, we acquire new and fresh information. And our desire of knowledge may drive us to pursue unknown domain. Little by little, knowledge is accumulated and our minds are expanded.

When we read books, e-books, magazines and whatever we like, our pattern of thinking becomes more rigid and structure of thoughts get more systematic. Different writers cast light upon their notions in different perspectives. Based on various ideas, we can mix them together, refine the best among them in order to cater to our own need and form an individual style of thinking. Once requested to think over something, we learn to consider from various sides rather than one. If asked to make a judgment over an affair, we learn to do reasonably rather than absolutely. Reading serves as a tool to help mind ponder more profoundly and calculate more thoroughly.

Apart from those, in the face of modern world timing with desire of wealth and power, we may feel vacant unavoidably at times. Reading can provides us with ample food of the soul, which exceedingly enriches our inner world. If a person is wandering all the day, he is simply nothing more than a dead body.

In all, reading is indispensable in promoting the all-around development of a person. Thus, reading makes a full man.

Thousands of years has witnessed the glorious achievement of literature. However, it is reading that plays an indispensible part inheriting it. Richard Steele once said, “Reading is to mind what exercise is to the body.” Reading has been an essential ingredient of becoming a distinguished man. Never have human beings been greatly influenced by reading than ever before.

Reading makes a full man in three aspects. Reading makes a man full of knowledge. It is of great benefit to broaden our horizon and acquire more knowledge. Through reading, we can step into every field as if sailing in a vast ocean, savoring

the beauty of every word. Take Shakespeare as an example, he attempted to make up for his deficiency in his education through wide reading and excelled in the literary field. Reading makes a man full of senses. Reading a book is reading a person. During the process, the capacity for distinguishing between the rights and wrongs is motivated. If we read, it is significant to cultivate a sensible attitude towards every subject. Reading makes man full of vigor. When we read, aspiration invariably beckons to us. When a negative emotion consumes us, reading is an effective way to dispel it and makes us vigorous.

Rene Descartes once said, “The reading of all good books i s like a conversation with the finest man of past centuries.” We cannot live without reading in modern times. Human’s life will continue to be enriched by reading.

People often say that gold and silver are valuable because they are wanted by everybody. But I say that having a good habit of reading is even more valuable because they are more needed by everybody. I enjoy what Francis Bacon said, “Reading makes a full man.”

When we get lonely or feel depressed, keeping a good book as a company will guide us out of the darkness, and bring sunshine into shadow. Books are our friends. By reading, we can meet many great men and women who were ages away from us; we can travel to all the countries in the world; we can depend on them for solving our difficulties and comforting us in suffering. Most importantly, assimilating what we have absorbed from the books into life will make us full of energy.

T o be a good learner we must read extensively. Without reading, we no longer have new ideas and new knowledge inject into our brains, like frogs in the well. Books are our teachers. They introduce us into the best society. By reading, we can know something about life, truth, science and philosophy. They increase our knowledge, enlarge our vocabulary, strengthen our character, and lift us upon a high level of thinking and living. Reading guides us

into a life full of wit.

Reading is a silent conversation. When we are at lost, or eager for knowledge, remembering that reading is our constant instructor and comforter. So go to find a book and start that silent conversation without hesitation. Soon we will hit upon the fact that originally in this way is a full man being made.
