Final Notes for New Foreign Exchange Students (Fall Semester 2012)

- If you have the file of the ninth edition, please throw it away.

2. List of Courses Conducted in English (Fall 2012)

- Be sure to read the latest list cover to cover beforehand.

- Be sure to read the last two pages for classes taught in Chinese.

3. Regular Korean Language Class

- For details on this class, see pp. 94~95 in the handbook.

- More details will be distributed during the orientation.

4. Class Registration

- You can register for classes online:

09:30~24:00 16 Aug. (Registration period for seniors)

09:30, 22 Aug.~17:00, 23 Aug. (Registration period for all students)

- See pp. 227~228, pp. 235~239, pp. 254~267 in the handbook for the manual.

- More details will be explained during the orientation.

- If you need technical help, please come to Room 103 (computer lab), Bldg. No. 20 (Sanghuh Hall) on 23 Aug. My student volunteers will be there from 09:00 to 17:00.

5. Arrival in Korea

1) If you arrive in Korea before 16 and 17 Aug., and will live in the dormitory

- Come to Mr. SUH’s office at 10:00 on 16 Aug. to meet Mr. SUH and to check into the dorm.

2) If you arrive in Korea before 16 and 17 Aug., and will not live in the dormitory.

- Come directly to the orientation on 20 Aug.

3) If you arrive in Korea on 16 and 17 Aug.

①If you arrive between 09:00 and 16:00, and will live in the dorm and want airport pickup

- Upon your arrival, go directly to the front of the McDonald’s restaurant on the first floor at the airport and wait for my Konkuk students. Do not go anywhere else.

②If you arrive before 09:00, and will live in the dorm and want airport pickup

- Upon your arrival, spend some time at the airport and then go to the front of the McDonald’s restaurant at 09:00 and wait for my Konkuk students. Do not go anywhere else.

③If you arrive after 16:00, and will live in the dorm and want airport pickup

- Upon your arrival, go directly to the front of the McDonald’s restaurant and wait for my Konkuk students.

Do not go anywhere else. The Konkuk students can kindly wait for you there until 18:00 maximum.

④If you arrive after 18:00, and will live in the dorm

- Upon your arrival, contact Mr. SUH and come directly to Mr. SUH’s office to check into the dorm.

⑤If you will live in the dorm but do not want airport pickup

- Go directly to the dorm office with a Korean-speaking friend between 10:00 and 17:00 on 16 and 17 Aug.

⑥If you will not live in the dorm but want airport pickup

- Get picked up my Konkuk students and come directly to Mr. SUH’s office.

⑦If you will not live in the dorm and do not want airport pickup

- Come directly to the orientation on 20 Aug.

4) If you arrive in Korea after 16 and 17 Aug., and will not live in the dormitory

- Come directly to the orientation on 20 Aug.

6. Meals at the dormitory cafeteria (if you live in the dormitory)

- As you were informed, as the company operating the dorm cafeteria changes, the details of the meal charge for the fall semester 2012 were not finalized at the time when you submitted the Housing Application Form, and were to be finalized before your arrival in August. But the process is taking longer than expected for some extraordinary reasons.

- As a result, the meals at the dormitory cafeteria will not be available from 16 Aug. to 23 Aug. During this period, please kindly use the convenience store and bakery in the dormitory complex or E-Mart in the Star City Mall (Bldg. No. 46). The meals at the dormitory cafeteria will be available from 24 Aug.

- The updated details of the meal charge for the fall semester will be made public as soon as they become available in August. On behalf of Konkuk University, I apologize for the inconvenience.

7. Arrival (welcome) orientation (mandatory)

- Date & Time: 09:50~17:00, 20 Aug. (Mon.)

- Location: Room 123, Bldg. No. 20 (See p. 334 in the handbook)

- Be sure to bring the following items to the orientation.

a) A black pen

b) Your passport

c) Some cash

* 10,000 won (for alien registration)

* 60,000 won (if you entered Korea without a D-2-6 visa)

* 200,000 won (to buy insurance, if you have to buy insurance at Konkuk)

d) A copy of your overseas insurance certificate (if you purchased one but have not sent a copy yet)

e) English address of your house in your home country including phone number (plus its country code)

f) The new edition of the KU HANDBOOK, the updated list of courses in English and other published

materials will be distributed at the orientation.

- A free lunch will be provided (a hamburger and a coke).

8. Directions to Konkuk (if you have to come directly to Mr. SUH’s office or the orientation)

- For directions to Konkuk, see pp. 86, 87, 334 and 335 in the handbook.

- The Office of International Faculty and Student Services is located on the first floor of Bldg. 37.

9. In case of an emergency

- In case of an emergency (cancelled flights, delayed flights etc.), please call Mr. SUH at the Office of

International Faculty and Student Services immediately at 82 2 2049 6204 or 82 11 9099 1869.

10. Note for exchange students who arrive (or arrived) in Korea before 16 and 17 Aug.

- Please do not try to do things on you own.

- Do not try to apply for alien registration or open a Korean bank account.

- Everything will be taken care of during the orientation.

Please do not change your flight schedule.

If you change your flight schedule, please notify Mr. SUH immediately

before you leave your home country.

请不要更改个人航班信息,如果已经改了,请尽快在出境之前通知徐老师。
