Colin Montgomerie and Retief Goosen, team captains for the inaugural Goodwill Trophy, have each unveiled their first two picks for the innovative event, which pits a team representing Europe and the United States against an Int ernational team for the first time ever.
David Toms, the current world number 11 and Chris DiMarco, the 2005 Masters Tournament runner-up will line up for the Ryder Cup countries and 2005 US Open Champion Michael Campbell and Lian-Wei Zhang, the most successful Chinese golfer of all time, will represent the International team when the event takes place at Mission Hills Golf Club China on 13th and 14th November 2006.
Captain of the Ryder Cup countries, Colin Montgomerie, said: “Chris DiMarco and David Toms are two of the toughest competitors on the PGA Tour. I have played against both of them at recent Ryder Cup Matches and I was actually paired with David during the singles at Oakland Hills which was certainly a challenging round of golf. As such, I have g reat respect for both players and am delighted that they have accepted the invitation to play with me at the Goodwill Trophy in November”.
Retief Goosen, captain of the International team, said: ”Michael is a top class international competitor as his success at Pinehurst last year showed. I also know exactly how good a matchplay performer he can be after he beat me 7&6 at Wentworth in the World Matchplay last Autumn! We’ve played in Presidents Cups together in the past as well so I am really happy that he has decided to join us as we take on the Europeans and Americans at the first Goodwill Trophy.
“I’m also happy to announce that Lian-Wei Zhang will join the International team at Mission Hills. He’s been a winner on the European Tour, he’s played at The Masters and I know that he’s beaten Colin Montgomerie in matchplay golf at the Alfred Dunhill Cup at St Andrews a few years ago which I hope will be a good omen in his home country”.

In 2004, Mission Hills Golf Club, China, affirmed by the Guinness World Records? as the world’s largest golf complex, and The Celtic Manor Resort, venue for the Ryder Cup in 2010, announced the creation of the Goodwill Trophy and Business Forum, a ground-breaking collaboration that will enhance trade, tourism and cultural exchange between the United Kingdom and China through golf.
The Goodwill Trophy and Forum will feature a golf tournament of the highest possible standard as well as a business conference that will be attended by some of the most significant business and political figures in the world.
On the course, The Goodwill Trophy will be contested over two days by a team featuring the best players from the Ryder Cup countries, Europe and the United States and an International side representing China, Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America in a matchplay tournament.
Off the course, the Goodwill Business Forum will, for the first time in China, bring together leading figures from the business world in a unique environment. The Good will Forum will gather top executives of global commerce, heads of state and leading business thinkers to focus on the most pressing issues facing the world economy. The Forum will provide these figures with a platform to share strategies and forge alliances that will transform these challenges into opportunities.
Participation at the Goodwill Business Forum will be target at chairmen, CEOs, and presidents of major multinational corporations. A combination of the highest calibre guests, global representati on, a strategically-focused programme led by the hosts and sponsors, as well as the intimate size of the meeting will ensure that the Goodwill Forum is the premier summit for senior global executives.
In 2007 The Goodwill Trophy and Business Forum will be held at The Celtic Manor Resort with the golf event played on the newly completed course that has been specifically designed to host the Ryder Cup in 2010.
The reciprocal partnership agreement between The Celtic Manor and Mission Hills Resorts was signed in June 2005 and was designed to reach beyond commercial benefit. Both organisations believe that international goodwill can be created through golf, in turn enhancing trade, tourism and cultural exchange. This is the core principle behind the development of The Goodwill Trophy and Business Forum.

Notice Please read the notice carefully before the contest starts. This notice is written in English and Chinese. You should listen carefully when the hosts state the opening words and the regulations of the contest. When each contestant is going on their speech you should listen to and observe him carefully. After each presenter ends their each part, you should give appropriate marks on each blank for the 5 parts respectively according to some points above. When each presenter ends all their speech, one of the judges will be asked to put forward one or two questions related or irrelated their speeches in turns.
