Course Description:
This course is designed to develop the students’ ability to translate Chinese texts into English. Class lectures introduce to the students linguistic features of different text types, compare and analyzes various methods of translating different text types and enable the students to grasp basic principles, techniques and methods of Chinese-English translation. After taking the course, the students are supposed to familiarize themselves with major text types in terms of diction, syntax and rhetorical features so as to translate them with accuracy and smoothness. Ideally, they are expected to translate at the speed of 250-300 words per hour.
