常见的其他例子还有:accord (give) ban (prohibition) bid (attempt) boost (rise, increase) clash抵触,不谐调(disagreement) deal交易,协议(business agreement) freeze稳定,冻结:使(如物价或工资)固定在一个既定或现行的标准上(stabilization) loom隐现(appear) blaze 强调燃烧强度并暗示发光的光辉(fire) comb彻底搜查(search) row 骚乱,吵嚷[rau] (violent argument) rap (to speak severely to, to blame, to punish) move提出议案:按国会的程序作出正式提议(plan, decision, suggestion) round (a series of action) shock (astonishment, blow) shun躲避:故意避开(to keep away from…) heist抢劫;偷窃(robbery) viable (workable) voice (express) operation An instance or a method of efficient, productive activity:有效率的经营方式(activities) pact合同, 公约, 协定(agreement) woo寻求以达到;尽力得到(to seek to win…,to persuade…) fake (counterfeit)这些常用的新闻词语一般都具有短小精悍的特点,这主要是由于使用短小的词语能够节省时间和篇幅并有利于抢发新闻的缘故。
British football supporters have a particularly bad reputation so much so nine crimes that only applied to the sport have been enforced. Elsa Ali finds find out why fans are given the red card. Scenes like these are not uncommon during football matches. Despite British football fans and hooliganism being considered synonymous abroad, fans here say that the troublemakers are few and because of them, that fans are all being treated like criminals. The sort of numbers that we're dealing with here 38 million people were attending football matches last season, and there were eighteen hundred and seventy arrests that sort of all that's a tiny tiny number. So most football matches are trouble-free,arrest free. There's a few bad apples they need to be targeted, but the behavior of fans is good. There are nine football-only crimes which wouldn't be considered a criminal offence if committed anywhere outside of a football stadium. They include encroaching on the pitch, drinking in view of the pitch or even reselling or giving away a ticket. And if those weren't enough, fans are also subjected to special powers. Football banning orders can impose restrictions such as not going within three miles of a football stadium on match days. Requirements to report to the police station at designated times or even surrendering your passport when your club or country are playing abroad. But The Home Office told us evidence shows the legislation has proved effective. Levels of football disorder have been significantly reduced since the introduction of football banning orders in 2000. But the policing is always proportional. Some fans feel like they're being unfairly targeted by government legislation forced by police forces up and down the country. We're here in Millwall whose supporters say they're routinely harassed by the authorities week in week out. Sometimes it starts before the trouble starts you know. They're trying to keep people in check sometimes it can cause more alceration. I have a lot of respect for the police. Because they have a lot of tough job to do in these day. It's not their fault. Sometimes they're told what to do by other people. At the end of the day, people are just trying to watch a football game. And I think we gave more than most things. Indeed several of the Millwall fans that we spoke to concede that they have a bad reputation. It was their supporters we saw at the beginning of the piece fighting with Barnsley fans during the recent League One play-off final at Wembley. But what if the police start arresting people for slightly less a crimes. As we were celebrating, I got pulled out a crowd and you know I was arrested for common assault. Many football fans might have a problem sinking their teeth into laws being used for seemingly bizarre charges. But it's a tough time for police aroundfootball supporters after the recent hillsboro ruling and worries about terrorism are heightened as the Euro Tournament kicks off in France this week. There is no doubt there will be on the highest alert. so maybe leave the inflatable sharks at home. Elsa Ali London.

DeVos pledged at her swearing-in to "support and defend the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." In the words of her official vow, she also pledged to "well and faithfully" discharge the duties of her office.

1、Title:Free trade with U.S.Europe balks at chlorine chicken, hormone beef.
Lead:ROSTRENEN, France — On a velvety green patch of the French countryside, organic farmer Jean Cabaret gave a little shudder. A looming trade deal with the United States, he fears, may make his worst culinary nightmare come true: an invasion of Europe by Amer ican “Frankenfoods.”
“Hormone-boosted beef. Chlorine-washed chicken. Genetically altered vegetables. This is what they want for us,” warned Cabaret, standing before his majestic herd of free-range cows. “In France, food is about pleasure, about taste. But in the United States, they put anything in their mouths. No, this must be stopped.”In Europe, this is a season of angst — even paranoia — over a historic bid to link the United States and the 28-nation European Union in the world’s largest free-trade deal.
2、Title: A year after Haiyan's devastation, new typhoon threatens Philippines标题:超强台风海燕已经过去一年了,新一轮台风威胁着菲律宾Lead:Typhoon Hagupit's wind strength is equivalent to that of a strong Category 5 hurricane; It could hit the area around Tacloban devastated last year by Typhoon Haiyan;"I'm more than nervous," says one survivor of Haiyan whose family home was destroyed;Tens of thousands of people are still living in coastal areas considered to be danger zones。
3、Apple — and Italy — can borrow money more cheaply than UncleSam苹果和意大利可以比美国政府以更低的成本借到钱Have financial markets lost their collective mind? In some ways, it’s starting to look like that. Here is the United States, whose bonds are the world’s safest investment, if only because the federal government can print dollars to redeem them, paying a higher interest rate to borrow money than less-than-prime credits such as Italy. And also, as it turns out, the U.S. Treasury is paying more to borrow money than Apple is.
Don’t believe that? Here’s the math. When last I looked, the rate on 10-year Treasury securities, a key market benchmark, was 2.28 percent. Meanwhile, not only was highly creditworthy Germany (0.75 percent) paying less to borrow than the United States, but so were not-so-great credits like Italy (1.98 percent) and Spain (1.83 percent). What’s more, these countries are borrowing in euros, which none of them can print.
Then there’s my favorite irrationality: Apple, which recently sold 8- and 12-year euro-denominated securities at rates way below equivalent U.S. Treasury rates —1.08 percent and 1.67 percent, compared with 2.16 percent and 2.45 percent. Yes, Apple may be so profitable that it coins money in the metaphorical sense. But it doesn’t do so in the literal sense, and the U.S. government does.
This irrational stuff makes me feel uneasy as an investor and should make you uneasy, too. So should other excesses, including the bidding wars for higher-end residential and commercial real estate in Manhattan, San Francisco and other parts of the country, and the ridiculous prices being paid in high-end art auctions. It feels like some sort of market top.
How should we retail investors think about this? Very warily. People, including me, have said for years that the bond market is a bubble that will pop when rates rise. But so far, anyone ignoring these warnings has reaped hefty returns as falling interest rates have driven up prices of existing securities.
But just because something irrational has been going on for a long time doesn’t mean that it will continue indefinitely. Corporati ons are locking up long-term money at very low rates now because they can. Someday, the borrowers will be taking victory laps, and owners of their debt securities will be weeping and wailing. I just don’t know when.
