Heading off to college this year? Here are some fashion tips from our experts you should keep in mind;

Dres s to impress: Stylist and business consultant Daniela Smith says, “Girls should keep in mind that your college professors will often be the bridge that connects you to your future career and your classmates will become your professional network. Y ou don?t need to dress like you?re going to the office, but you should display all ability to properly present yourself with appropriate maturity and confidence, and look put-together.”

Logo mania(品牌热症): Wearing the logos of brands aimed at younger customers physically identifies you as part of that age group, so consider the targeted age group of the stores you shop at. It?s tempting to load up on logos, especially well-known logos that signify high-end brands. But consider this: college is a time of self-discovery, a chance to develop your own personal style. Instead of wearing logos head to toe, “walking advertisement”-style, why not express who you really are?

Wear real pants: The combination of leggings and baggy shirts is all too common on college campuses. Smith points out that leggings, yoga pants, and sweatpants are entirely unacceptable in public unless you?re exercising. Although leggings won as pants are a common trend among hi gh school and college girls, they are not an appropriate choice for daywear; As a young woman, your style choice should begin to reflect your maturity level. So, get rid of leggings and wear real pants!

Keep the cute factor to a minimum: Stay away from sweaters and T-shirts with smiling animals, cartoon characters, or Hollo Kitty on them. Sure, kittens might be cute, but they?re not doing you any favors in the style department. Dressing too cutesy can take years off your look, and not necessarily in a good way!

61. The second paragraph indicate the importance of _____________.

A. impressing professors

B. getting on well with classmates

C. creating a professional image

D. dressing appropriately

C

Imagine shopping for clothes online and being able to run your hand across the screen on your computer to feel the fabrics. That kind of technology could be available within the next five years.

“We?re talking about reinventing the way computers operate and you interact with them as humans,”says IBM Vice President Bernie Meyerson.Extending sense of touch is one of five innovations (创新) that IBM believes will change the world in the next five years, according to the company?s annual “Five in Five” list.

Smart machines will also soon be able to listen to the environment and highlight the sounds we care about most. For instance,an advanced speech recognition system will tell new parents why their baby is crying.“From the sound t he baby is creating, that particular frequency in the voice of the child, you know the difference between a child for instance who is sick as opposed to a child who is just lonely.”

In the near future, personal computers will be able to do more than recognize images and visual data.Their built-in cameras will be able to analyze features such as colors, and understand the meaning of visual media, such as knowing how to sort family photos.

Smart machines will also be able to smell. If you sneeze on your computer, tiny sensors built in the machine will be able to analyze thousands of molecules(分子)in your breath. Then it can tell you whether you need to see a doctor.

IBM scientists are also developing a system which can experience flavors to be used by chefs to create recipes. It breaks down ingredients to their molecular level and blends them to create the most popular flavors and smells.

One of the most impressive things about the IBM list, says Georgetown University computer science professor Mark Maloof, is how powerful these tiny, smart computers are becoming.Maloof hopes the advances will encourage more students to study science, technology, engineering and math, preparing them to play a role in future innovations.

A 17-year-old boy, caught sending text messages in class, was recently sent t o the vice principal?s office. The vice principal, Steve Gallagher, told the boy he needed to focus on the teacher, not his cellphone. The boy listened politely and nodded, and that?s when Mr. Gallagher noticed the student?s fingers moving on his lap. He was testing while being scolded for texting. “It was a subconscious act, says Mr. Gallagher,” who took the phone away. “Y oung people today are connected socially from the moment they open their eyes in the morning until they close their eyes at night. It?s compulsive.”

A study this year by psychology students at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga, found that the more time young people spend on Facebook, the more likely they are to have lower grades and weaker study habits. Heavy Facebook users show signs of being more sociable, but they are also more likely to be anxious, hostile or depressed. (Doctors, meanwhile, are now laming addictions to …night texting? for disturbing the sleep patterns of teens.)

Almost a quarter of today?s teens check Facebook more tha n 10 times a day, according to a 2009 survey by Common Sense Media, a nonprofit group that monitors media?s impact on families. Will these young people get rid of this habit once they enter the work force,or will employers come to see texting and …social—ne twork checking? as accepted parts of the workday?

Think back, When today?s older workers were in their 20s, they might have taken a break on the job to call friends and make after-work plans. In those earlier eras, companies discouraged non-business-related calls, and someone who made personal calls all day risked being fired. It was impossible to imagine the

constant back-and-forth texting that defines interactions among young people today.

Educators are also being asked by parents, students and educational strategists to reconsider their rules. “In past generations, students got in trouble for passing notes in class. Now students are good at texting with their phones still in their pockets,” s ays 40-year-old Mr. Gallagher, the vice principal,“ and they?re able to communicate with someone one floor down and three rows over. Students are just fundamentally different today. They will take suspensions rather than give up their phones.”

71. What does t he underlined word “a subconscious act” in the first paragraph refer to? .

A. An act on purpose

B. An act without realization

C. An act in secret

D. An act with care

72. Which of the following methods isn?t applied to supporting the text? .

A. Making comparison .

B. Giving examples.

C. Following the order of time. D .Quoting.

73. What can be inferred t hrough the situation of today?s older workers in their 20s?

A. The employers will not a ccept young people?s sending text messages.

B.A cellphone is a must for today?s older workers instead of young people.

C. The employers prefer older workers to young people.

D. The employers will find it hard to control the interaction among young people.

74. Which of the following is true about the students in the past and those today?

A. They like to break rules and have the same means of sending messages.

C. They like sending text messages but those today do it in a more secret and skillful way.

D. They cannot live without a cellphone.

[1] The research , which followed 200 students for four years indicates that women consistently outperformed men in their studies even though they had their courses with almost identical A-level grades.

[2] An analysis of the results showed that while 65 percent of female graduates were awarded, only 35 percent of male graduates did as well. Girls are known to outperform boys at school, but this research showed that the trend continued at university.

[3] Fiona Smith who led the research said, “The research shows that the difference has something to do with schools in general.”

[4] “It also shows something about _________ for working women in terms of pay and promotion. Women work harder at school, harder at university, and do better at both, but they still receive less pay.”

[5] The research found that female students were more faithful, less likely to miss lectures, and more likely to believe that their marks reflected their abilities than male students. Female students were also more likely to ask for and receive support from their professors.

[6]Women were also more likely to choose their universities because they liked the courses offered.

[7] In contrast, men were likely than women to miss lectures due to “other affairs” and “laziness”, and to believe that playing sports was an important part of university life.

[8]Generally, people think that women?s success comes from more emphasis on coursework, but the research showed that female geographers at Brunel did better in their exams than in their coursework.

[9]Dr. Smith said, “Most women feel that getting grades is the most important part of university life. They believe that they need to work harder in order to compete in the male-dominated environment they will encounter at work.. Good grades are viewed as an …insurance policy?for success. Men, on the other hand, prefer going out and playing sports to academic work.”

[10] “This research shows how important it is to get young people working hard and teach them the value of higher education,” he said

Text 10

Known as an incredible magician, Harry Houdini didn?t have much success with traditional magic at first. He even once considered giving up. In 1899, following the advice of a theatre manager to focus on escapes, his career took off. In 1908, in St. Louis, Houdini first introduced his escape from a giant milk can filled with water. It soon became popular and he took it on tour throughout the US, England and Germany. For his next escape, performed in 1913, Houdini came up with something more dramatic than the Giant Milk Can Escape. In this

trick, Houdini?s ankles were fastened in a brace and he was put under water, upside down and locked in a place in full view of the audience. From this position, he freed himself and escaped from the water cell. In 1918, in the middle of the brightly lit stage of the Hippodrome Theatre in New Y ork City, when Houdini fired a pistol, he made a 10000 pound elephant named Jennie disappear from view. The act was called “The Vanishing Elephant”. This incredible trick helped make Houdini a world-famous master of illusion.

②否定句:主语+have/has+not+动词的过去分词)+宾语. work→worked→worked visit→visited→visited (2)以"e "结尾的动词,只在词尾加"-d "。 stop→stopped→stopped drop→dropped→dropped 2. cut→cut→cut it→hit→hit

I have already posted the photo. He has lived here since 1978. 注意:for和since的用法。 以来) ③since + 时间段+ ago ④since + 从句(过去时) ⑤It is + 时间段+ since + 从句(过去时) 注意:瞬间动词(buy, die, join, lose...) 变化如下: come/arrive/reach/get to→be in go out→be out finish→be over open→be open die→be dead buy→have Fall ill→be ill Come back→be back Put on→be on/wear Worry→be worried Catch a cold→have a cold 现在完成时连用的时间状语 现在完成时是一个与过去和现在都有关系的时态,因此,具有这样时间特点的状语都可以与现在完成时连用。 1. We have lived in this city for more than 40 years. We have lived in this city since 1958.
