21.My interests include football, bowling and surfing the web ________ studying my favorite subjects.

A.as well as B.instead of

C.less than D.rather than

22.My daughter ________ in a restaurant for the summer, but she doesn't like it very much.

A.worked B.is working

C.was working D.works

23.—Do you think he will attend the meeting this afternoon?

—________.

A.I hope not B.I don't hope so

C.I don't think it D.I hope he will

答案与解析:A I hope not意为“我不希望如此。” I don't hope so这种结构;C项应该是I don't think so;D项不符合英语习惯。

24.On AIDS day,the minister of Health Department demanded that the problems ________ paid special attention to.

A.referred to being B.referred to be

C.refer to being D.refer to be

答案与解析:B referred to是过去分词作定语修饰the problems,表示被动的关系;demand之后的宾语从句用should+动词原形,be是should be的省略。

25.I always have so many things to ________ when I come back to the company after a trip abroad.

A.add to B.contribute to

C.attend to D.appeal to

答案与解析:C attend to此处相当于deal with,意为“处理”。

26.—Are you going to have a holiday this year?

—I'd love to.I can't wait to leave this place ________.

A.off B.out

C.behind D.over

27.The construction of the two new railway lines ________ by now.

A.has been completed B.have been completed

C.has completed D.have completed

28.The old man who ________ in the deserted house alone for ten years has been settled in a nursing home now.

A.lived B.had lived

C.has lived D.has been living

29.All the preparations for the task ________ and we're ready to start.

A.completed B.complete

C.had been completed D.have been completed

30.A good story does not necessarily have to have a happy ending, but the reader must not be left ________.

A.unsatisfied B.unsatisfying

C.to be unsatisfying D.being satisfied

31.No matter how well the plan is made,it won't be carried out until the government leader ________ it.

A.agrees B.admits

C.approves D.acquires

32.If anyone ever catches ________ of the mugger anywhere, please call the police at once.

A.view B.glimpse

C.glance D.sight

33.I hope you understand the tennis committee has ________ you of a serious offence,John.

A.do I enjoy; do I find B.I enjoy; I find

C.do I enjoy; I find D.I enjoy; do I find

35.Only if ________ the examinations ________ get the gift promised by your father.

A.you have passed; you will

B.have you passed; will you

C.you have passed; will you

D.have you passed; you will

A

One bitterly cold day,a snowstorm blew into our area.Needing firewood,I quickly set out

with my best friend,Bruce,to look for a tree to cut down.I was glad to have Bruce along with.Cutting down a tree in a snowstorm can be dangerous. So it was important to have a friend who could warn me of danger.

When I chose a big 23-meter-tall tree and prepared to cut it down,my best friend suddenly warned me,“Don't cut down that tree! It's too close to the power line!”I wasn't sure about it.So I decided to disregard_his warning.I wanted to finish the job quickly and go home.So I began cutting down the tree. When the tree fell, there was no longer any doubt whether my friend was right.

The tree caught the power line, bringing it to the ground.I considered cutting the tree off the line. After all, electricity can't travel through wood,so I could safely remove the tree.As I reached out my finger to touch the tree, pain ran up my arm and through my head.I was shocked!

After I returned home and told my mother what had happened, she quickly called the power company.Workers from the power company soon arrived on the scene. One of them asked if I had touched the tree, and when I told him I had,his face turned pale.

“Y ou should have been killed,”he said.

So why am I still alive? It was my boots that saved my life.

Within two hours, the workers removed the tree.Soon the_snowstorm_calmed_down—_but_not_my_mother.

Even though she was glad I wasn't hurt,my mother was still serious about me.After all,I shouldn't have brushed off my friend's warning.

Through this experience,I learned it's important to listen to people who offer a different perspective.Taking the time to listen might actually save a lot of time and trouble. It certainly would have kept me from getting the“shock of my life”.

56.The underlined word“disregard”in the second paragraph means“________”.

A.pay no attention to B.take notice of

B.he wasn't sure if Bruce was right and was anxious to go home

C.he didn't hear his friend's warning at all because of the blowing wind

文章第二段中的“I wasn't sure about it.So I decided to disregard his warning.I wanted to finish the job quickly and go home.So I began cutting down the tree.”

B

Sandra Cisneros was born in Chicago in 1954 to a Mexican American family. As the only girl in a family of seven children, she often felt like she had“seven fathers”,because her six brothers,as well as her father, tried to control her.Feeling shy and unimportant, she retreated(躲避)into books.Despite her love of reading, she did not do well in elementary school because she was too shy to participate.

In high school, with the encouragement of one particular teacher,Cisneros improved her grades and worked for the school literary magazine. Her father encouraged her to go to college because he thought it would be a good way for her to find a husband.Cisneros did attend college, but insted of searching for a husband, she found a teacher who helped her join the famous graduate writing program at the University of Iowa.At the university's Writers' Workshop, however, she felt lonely—a Mexican American from a poor neighborhood among students from wealthy families. The feeling of being so different helped Cisneros find her“creative voice”.“It was not until this moment when I considered myself truly different that my writing acquired a voice.I knew I was a Mexican woman, but I didn't think it had anything to do with why I felt so much imbalance in my life, but it had everything to do with it!That's when I decided I would write about something my classmates couldn't write about.”

Cisneros published her first work,The House on Mango Street, when she was twenty-nine.The book tells about a young Mexican American girl growing up in a Spanish-speaking area in Chicago, much like the neighborhoods in which Cisneros lived as a child. The book won an award in 1985 and has been used in classes from high school through graduate school level.Since then,Cisneros has published several books of poetry,a children's book, and a short-story collection.

60.Which of the following is TRUE about Cisneros in her childhood?

A.She had seven brothers.

B.She felt herself a nobody.

D.She did not have any good teachers.

61.The graduate program gave Cisneros a chance to ________.

A.work for a school magazine

B.run away from her family

C.make a lot of friends

D.develop her writing style

62.According to Cisneros, what played the decisive role in her success?

A.Her early years in college.

B.Her training in the Workshop.

C.Her feeling of being different.

D.Her childhood experience.

A.It is quite popular among students.

B.It is the only book ever written by Cisneros.

C.It wasn't a success as it was written in Spanish.

D.It won an award when Cisneros was twenty-nine.

由第四段第三句“...has been used in classes from high school through graduate school level。”

Gauri Nanda sees a wearable computer as a handbag——one that's built out of four—inch squares and triangles of fiber, with tiny computer chips embedded(嵌入)in it.It looks, feels and weighs like your typical leather purse.

That's where the similarities end. This bag can wirelessly keep track of your belongings and remind you, just as you're about to leave the house,to take your wallet. It can review the weather report and suggest that you grab an umbrella. This purse can even upload your favorite songs onto your scarf.

Sure,a computing purse and sear set may seem like the stuff of science fiction. But these devices(装置),part of next generation of wearable computers, could become commonplace within a few years.Dupont created new super strong fibers that can conduct electricity and can be woven into ordinary-looking clothes. And the chipmaker developed chip packaging and allowing wearable computers to be washed, even in the heavy duty cycle.

As a result, these new wearable devices are different from the heavy and downright silly versions of the recent past, which often required users to be wrapped in wires and type on their stomachs.Unlike their predecessors, these new wearable computers also make economic sense, when her bag becomes commercially available in two to three years.Nanda expects it will cost around $150,which is the price of an average leather purse.

Here's how the bag works.Y ou place a special radio signal transmitting chip onto your wallet.A similar radio in your purse picks up the signal and notifies you that you've forgotten to take your wallet. In turn, sensors on your purse's handles will notify the computer that you've picked up the purse and are ready to go.

Already, these new kinds of wearable devices are being adopted for use in markets like auto repair, emergency services, medical monitoring and even increasingly, for consumers at large.Indeed,more_people_will_want_to_cross_that_bridge_in_the_coming_years-making_for_a_booming_ma rket_for_wearable_computers_that_don't_look_like_something_out_of_science_fiction.

68.According to the passage, the new wearable computers ________.

A.require users to operate on the stomach

B.pick up the signals through wires and chips

C.are being applied in some different areas now

D.are smarter but more expensive than the old ones

从第二段“It can report the weather report and suggest...favorite songs...”

69.What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph mean?

A.The new wearable computers have become fashionable.

B.People would like to learn more about the new computers.

C.New wearable computers promise to sell well in the future.

D.The idea of the purse-like computers comes from science fiction.

“make for a booming market”和“sell well”意义相近,故C为正确答案。

70.The purpose of the passage is ________.

A.to introduce a new kind of computer

B.to explain the functions of computers

C.to compare different types of computers

D.to show how high technology affects our life

Flying for a long time, you finally arrive at the place where you can relax—your hotel room. Now you throwyour bag on the bed, turn on the TV and watch an international news programme on a satellite channel probably from UK or the USA. The main international broadcasters are BBC World and CNN. With an audience of over 1.5 billion people, these are popular channels that offer good-quality news programmes. In both companies, the journalists are experienced writers that produce journalism of a high standard. However, there are alternative news channels which people watch because they want a less traditional or non-Western view on world events. Russia Today and Al Jazeera International, an Arabic company, are international channels that broadcast in English. Both companies say they give a fresh view on big stories, and their experienced journalists often report from places where Western journalists do not work, and so they give us stories that we don't normally see. The Internet offers more variety. OneWorldTV is an Internet site where you can find stories about the developing world and human rights, rather than the usual stories about US politics and business. The writers for this company are often local people who write the stories for free. This non-professional journalism is increasing, and it certainly offers more choices. This increase in citizen journalism means that you can write the news, too. Main news broadcasters often use photographs and stories that members of the general public send to them, especially when there is a dramatic breaking news story. Besides this, some blogs are popular sources of news, and the website NowPublic lets you write stories using information you can get from anywhere, including sites like Youtube, Flickr and Twitter. (1)The first paragraph is meant to . A. offer a suggestion B. give a warning C. explain a reason D. introduce the topic (2)It can be learned from the text that more and more people will . A. prefer to read local news B. pay more attention to world news C. start a career in citizen journalism D. give up watching TV news programmes (3)What would be the best title for the text? A. Riffat” Monaf, an interesting name and an even more interesting person. Her introduction took place about six years ago, and since then I have never met a more influential person in my life. Mrs Monaf not only conquered me with her vast knowledge of geography, but also won me over with her smile and warm eyes. It was in her class that I traveled to the highest mountains and to the deepest seas from the comfort of the classroom. I learned about the vast oceans, the erupting volcanoes, the snow-capped mountains and the green valleys. She would often relate her adventures about traveling to different parts of the world. Never can I forget the glory of her face when she talks about how truly beautiful this world is. If I search back my love for the environment and geography, I find her to be the source of my love for preserving nature. If one day I became an environmentalist, I know that I'll thank her for it. Apart from this, she has always greeted me with open arms and she calls her students “ my children ”Mrs. Monaf's morals and values rubbed off me deeply and I have always taken her advice into consideration. She has been one of the most consistently good things in my life. Currently, she is fighting a battle against breast cancer, and it pains me to know that after all she has done for me; I can do nothing for her except pray.

What a newspaper includes is decided by its editors. The managing editor decides which stories are newsworthy and gives reporters their tasks. To an editor, there are two kinds of news: hard news, such as the election (选举) of a president, and soft news. Soft news includes stories about a new dance craze, a beautiful historic building, or an interesting person. The soft news fills whatever space is left after the hard news is put into the newspaper space. There is also public service news to fit in-information about meetings and lectures, free health programs, or changes in a local library’s hours. The managing editor decides how important a story is. If a story is very important, it is marked for a headline on the front page. Less important stories appear farther back in the paper. The story editor takes a story and decides to “boil or trim it”. If the editor decides to boil a story, it becomes front-page article. Depending on the size of a paper, there may be a sports editor, a business editor or an art editor. On a small weekly paper, an editor may cover two or more of these areas. Once all the stories are written, they are given to a copy editor, who corrects any mistakes and fits the articles into the newspaper’s format(版式). The makeup editor, with the managing editor, usually dec ides how the paper will look. The editor’s job is to decide whether a page will look. This editor’s job is to deicide whether a page will carry two stories and four ads or six stories and one ad. Editors may rewrite or redesign many of the pages as more stories come from the pressroom. 61. An example of hard news is _______ A. the election of a president B. a story about a historic building C. a new fashion in clothes D. information about health programs 62. Where a news story is put in the newspaper depends on___________ A. its length B. its style C. its importance D. its title 63. What does the underlined word “trim” in the second paragraph mean? A. Reduce in size B. Increase in length C. Beautify in appearance D. Change in shape 64. Correcting the mistakes of all the articles is the work of_______ A. makeup editors B. copy editors C. managing editors D. business editors 65. What’s the purpose of the passage? A. To persuade people to work as editors. B. To tell the readers how editors are educated. C. To introduce some famous editors. D. To show how a newspaper is made.

1、To be a good teacher, you need some of the gifts of a good actor; you must be able to hold the attention and interest of your audience; you must be a clear speaker, with a good, strong, pleasing voice which is fully under your control; and you must be able to act what you are teaching, in order to make its meaning clear. Watch a good teacher, and you will see that he does not sit still before his class:he stands the whole time he is teaching; he walks about, using his arms, hands and fingers to help him in his explanations, and his face to express feelings. Listen to him, and you will hear the loudness, the quality (音色) and the musical note of his voice always changing according to what he is talking about. The fact that a good teacher has some of the gifts of a good actor doesn’t mean that he will indeed be able to act well on the stage, for there are very important differences between the teacher’s work and the actor’s. The actor has to speak words which he has learnt by heart; he has to repeat exactly the same words each time he plays a certain part, even his movements and the ways in which he uses his voice are usually fixed beforehand (预先). What he has to do is to make all these carefully learnt words and actions seem natural on the stage. A good teacher works in quite a different way. His audience takes an active part in his play:they ask and answer questions, they obey orders, and if they don’t understand something, they say so. The teacher therefore has to meet the needs of his audience, which is his class. He cannot learn his part by heart, but must invent it as he goes along.
