在暑假里，我读了一本名叫《美丽的乔》的国际大奖儿童小说，这本书使我受益匪浅。
“美丽的乔”是一条狗的名字，它是一条真实的狗，它虽名叫“美丽的乔”，但它其实并不美丽，只是一条杂种犬。它的前主人生性凶残，常拿动物当出气筒。前主人残忍的杀害了乔的母亲和兄弟。他甚至还用斧子砍掉了乔的耳朵和尾巴。在乔奄奄一息的时候，仁慈的哈里先生和劳拉小姐拯救了它。整个故事是以第一人称来写的，记录了“美丽的乔”一生中的重要事情。劳拉一家天性仁慈，对动物充满同情和爱，从此，乔过上了幸福安逸的生活。在女主人家里，美丽的乔认识了许多动物朋友，如狐梗比利，家猫马尔特，猎鸟吉姆，鹦鹉贝拉等等。美丽的乔和它们和睦相处，成了形影不离的好伙伴。
