The frog, the prince, the golden ball
We are presenting to you all
By a witch, put under a spell
Andre searches, a way out of hell
After hopping a long, long way
Unkown dangers, ahead they lay
At last, with Lily by his side
His hope for the princess has all died
When he stopped and turned around
His true love was finally found
And so we finish in everyone's laughter
The story that ended happily ever after
Scene one
Narrator:
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, Princess Tatiana was promised
to Prince Andre, son of the great and mighty king, Deconis. The
festive mood of the engagement arouses in the kingdom. Faraway,
beyond all the celebrating, alone in her tower, Poinsetta, the witch,
was watching, her eyes brewing with anger and hatred.
Poinsetta:Mine, mine, mine! Andre should be mine! How could he marry
Tatiana? How can I let him marry Tatiana?
(Poinsetta flounces around in rage.)
(Andre is standing before a mirror made of aluminum foil.) Andre:
Magic mirror, I will marry Tatiana in a week, how beautiful she is!
The brightness of her eyes shine like candles in the dark night! me
softness of her skin feels of the finest silk! She leaves even the
goddesses in bitter envy. Magic mirror, show me my dear princess!
(Poinsetta bursts out from the other side of the mirror, screeching) Poinsetta:I'm he-ere!
(Leaps into Andre's lap)
Poinsetta:Tell me honey, tell me that you will not marry that wretched princess!
Tell me that you love me and me only! I have waited and waited for
your love! Now give me a big kiss!
(Poinsettia leans over to Andre, puckering her lips.)
Narrator:
Scared to death Andre stands frozen in terror, his legs trembling, and
falls to the ground.
(Actions follow narrator)
Poinsetta:Ungrateful creature! I have offered my love, look upon you as my man, yet, you despise me as if I have asked for your life, look at me as
if you have just seen a dead frog! Well well well, we'll see who is the
frog around here! Abracadabra!
(She waves her hands around, and in a poof of smoke, Andre turns in to a green frog.
After the smoke clears,)
Andre:Ribbit
Poinsetta:You can turn yourself back to a prince when your princess Tatiana kisses you! Now my dear prince, we'll see how you find your beloved
princess, you frog prince! Hee hee hee!
(She cackles in a witch-like manner and flounces oft)
Andre:
Nobody knows the trouble I've seen, nobody knows my sorrow.
Nobody knows the trouble I've seen, glory hallelujah! I better go
search for Tatiana, to break this evil spell! I must stop pitying myself!
(Andre scrambles away)
Scene two
Narrator:Several weeks later; after traveling high and low, through barren deserts, though endless seas, Andre came upon a big rock in a dark
forest. Exhausted and dehydrated, Andre fell upon the big rock,
unconscious.
(The she frog, Lily, pokes her head out, looks at Andre, and quickly pulls her head in. She pokes her head out from the other side, and slowly hops toward Andre, circles him twice, and pokes him.
Andre lets out a tremble as Lily leaps back in surprise.) Lily:Its alive!
(Lily gets a bucket of water and dumps it over Andre. Andre coughs and sputters.)
Andre:How dare anyone pour water on me!
(He Sits up and looks around.)
Andre:Where... where am I? And who are you?
Lily:Why you are in the land of princess Tatiana, and I live here! I am Lily.
And you are....?
(Andre stands up, tall and proud, slaps his chest)
Andre:I am prince Andre, son of the great and mighty king, Deconis.
(Lily looks at him in disbelief.)
Lily:I can see, you're not a prince, you're only a frog!
Andre:Oh yes I am, I am a prince, I am prince Andre!
Lily:No, you're not.
Andre:Yes, I am.
Lily:No, you're not.
Andre:Yes, I am.
Lily:No, you're not.
Andre:Yes, I am. Yes, I am!
Both:Hmph!
(They stamp their feet at the same time and turn their backs to each other. After a while,
Lily turns back)
Lily:So tell me prince, what are you doing here?
Andre:I am here to find my bride, princess Tatiana.
Lily:..... you're traveling to the castle. Allow me to go ;with you.
(Lily hops beside Andre, and he pushes her away.)
Andre:No, please get out of my way, you are very annoying!
(Lily Sits down and looks sad and lost)
Lily:
Nobody likes me, everybody hates me; guess I'll go eat worms...
(Lily pauses and glances hopefully at Andre, who turns back, impatiently)
Andre:Oh, fine! Follow me if you must!
(They hop on)
Scene three
Narrator:Andre continues his journey to find Princess Tatiana, this time with Lily the frog beside him. Several days later, with the help of Lily.
Andre passes through the dark forest, unhurt, and come upon a lake.
The cool, clear water looked so inviting, that Andre and Lily decided
to take a rest beside the lake. A vague shape of the castle is in the
distance.
Andre:Is that the castle?
Lily:Yes.
Andre:Yes! I'm saved! (Turns and faces direction of castle) Tatiana! Free me from this spell!
(Golden ball flies in, and hits Andre, knocking him unconscious.)
Lily:ANDRE!
(Lily tries to wake Andre, but fails. Tatiana walks in.)
(Lily tries to pull Andre away when she sees Tatiana, but can not. She then runs behind
the book)
Tatiana:Ah! My golden ball is here. (Sees Andre lying on floor.) EWWW!
What is this? (Pokes at Andre) A frog? Well, I could use some
amusements.
(Tatiana walks off)(Lily comes out from hiding place)
Lily:That must be Princess Tatiana, the reason for this adventure and cause for all this trouble. However, I do not think that the princess will
believe his story. I must go save him before she turns him into frog
soup!
(Lily walks (leaps?) off stage.)
Scene four
Narrator:Prince Andre has finally found his princess, or rather, she has found him. Princess Tatiana, having caught a frog, leads him back to her
chambers.
(Andre comes back onto stage with a rope tied around his neck, Tatiana holds the other
end of the rope.)
(Tatiana ties the rope around a peg. Andre sits up.)
Andre:(Covering head with hand.) 0, that hurts. (Looks around and spots Tatiana.) Tatiana? Is that you?
Tatiana:Ah, so the frog knows my name.
Andre:Tatiana? Do you not recognize me? I am Andre!
Tatiana:Andre? I may have not seen him for a long time, but I know he does not look like this.
Andre:Really, Tatiana! I am really Andre! That witch Poinsettia turned me into a frog.
Tatiana:Poinsettia?
Andre:Yes! Only your kiss could turn me back human.
Tatiana:Kiss YOU? Over my dead body.
Andre:Please! Tatiana! Only your kiss could turn me back!
Tatiana:
(Semi-turns and talks to audience) Ha! I brought this frog back for
some amusements, but look what IT has said. First, he tells me he is
Andre, and then he tells me to KISS him. Am I so foolish to believe in
such a lie? No, I will never touch such a filthy creature. (Turns back to
Andre) I have planned to keep you as a pet, but your insulting words
will now cost you your life.
(Tatiana walks off)
Andre:Why? Why does she not believe in me?
(Lily hops in)
Lily:I did not think she will.
Andre:How could she be so...
Lily:Leave that later! Come on, we better go! Andre: But I can't, I'm tied up.
Lily:Ok, let me see.
(Lily starts untieing the rope. Tatiana walks in, knife in hand.)
(Andre and Lily freezes.)
Tatiana:Found yourself a friend, haven't you? Now I can have a BIG bowl of soup!
(Tatiana raises knife and advances toward Lily. Lily jumps away just in time.) Andre:Lily! Run before she catches you!
Lily:Then what about you?
Andre:You must not sacrifice your life for someone as worthless as me! Now GO! Lily: No, Andre! I will not leave without you!
Tatiana:Neither of you are leaving!
(Lily picks up rope when Tatiana strikes. Lily holds the rope up so Tatiana hits the rope.)
(The rope snaps.)
Lily:Andre! GO!
(Andre runs off one direction, Lily runs off the other.)
Tatiana:NO!
(Tatiana looks around, as if deciding which one to chase. Then she runs off
stage,tripping in the process.)
Tatiana:AUGH!
Scene five
Narrator:
Unable to catch the frogs alone, Princess Tatiana calls her servants to
look for them. The whole castle lights up (?) with activity as people
try to find the two frogs. However, thanks to Lily's intelligence and
loyalty, the two frogs manage to escape from the castle, unseen.
(Andre and Lily run on stage, panting.)
(Lily starts walking. Andre stays motionless)
Lily:Andre?
Andre:Lily.. .I have not yet expressed my gratitude for which I am eternally grateful.
Lily:Huh?
Andre:I mean thank you for saving my life.
(Lily blushes.)
Lily:(Suddenly Stops) Hey, Andre. Are you REALL Y a prince?
Andre:Only to my princess.
Lily:Have... you found her?
(Andre putt's his arms around Lily.)
Andre:It took me several weeks and a long journey, to realize that the princess I was looking for was beside me all the time.
(Andre and Lily walk oft)
Narrator:And so, they lived happily ever after.
