New Word and expressions 生词和短语

1.idea [ai'di?, 'ai'di?] n. 主意

an idea "a"用在以辅音开头的词前,"an"用在以元音开头的词前。

an hour ['au?]

a good idea

I have a good idea. 我有一个好主意

?opinion对某事具体的看法

in one's opinion 某人认为……

in my opinion 我认为……= I think/believe...

In my opinion, English is hard to learn. (T)坚持

2.a little 少许(用于不可数名词之前)含肯定意味

little (用于不可数名词之前) 几乎没有含否定意味

There is a little water in the glass. 杯子里有一点儿水。There is little water in the glass. 杯子里几乎没水了

同样是半杯水,口渴者会认为:There is little water in the glass. 而不口渴的人则会认为:There is a little water in the glass.

3.teaspoonful ['ti:spu:n,ful] n. 一满茶匙

teaspoon 指在喝茶、喝咖啡及吃甜点心时所使用的普通小匙

teaspoonful 一茶匙容量就是一茶匙能容纳的容量

a teaspoonful of sugar

4.Less adj. (little 的比较级)较少的,更小的

1) 规则变化

单音节词和少数双音节词,加词尾-er,-est来构成比较级和最高级。

①一般单音节词未尾加-er,-est :tall(高的) taller tallest

great(巨大的) greater greatest

②以不发音的e结尾的单音词和少数以- le结尾的双音节词只加-r,-st :nice(好的) nicer nicest large(大的) larger largest able(有能力的) abler ablest

③以一个辅音字母结尾的闭音节(必须是重读音节;最后只有一个辅音字母;元音字母发短元音)单音节词,双写结尾的辅音字母再加-er,-est :big(大的) bigger biggest hot热的) hotter hottest

④"以辅音字母+y" 结尾的双音节词改y为i,再加-er,-est easy(容易的) :easier easiest busy(忙的) busier busiest

⑤少数以-er,-ow结尾的双音节词未尾加-er,-est :clever(聪明的) cleverer cleverest ;narrow(窄的) narrower narrowest ⑥其他双音节词和多音节词,在前面加来构成比较级和最高级

:important(重要的) more important most important easily(容易地) more easily most easily

2)不规则变化

good/well(好的)/ better best

bad (坏的)/ill(有病的) :/ worse worst

old -> older -> oldest老,年龄大-> elder -> eldest排行比较elder sister姐姐

much/many(多的) more most

little(少的) less least

far -> farther -> farthest指距离/-> further -> furthest表示程度further study进修学习/further explanation进一步的解释5.a few(= some; several; a small number of) 含肯定意义。表示肯定含义,修饰可数名词

few(= not many; hardly any)含否定意义;修饰可数名词

She has a few friends. She has few friends.

6.pity n. 遗憾It is a pity.

What a pity it is! What a pity! 太遗憾了!

She is a beautiful girl.

What a beautiful girl she is! What a beautiful girl! (what+名词短语+其他)

How beautiful she is! How beautiful the girl is! (How+形容

词+主语+谓语)

The car runs fast. How far the car runs!

7.instead adv. 代替

She didn't go there yesterday.I went there instead.(T) There is no coffee.Let's drink a cup of tea instead. (T)

词组:instead of sb/sth/doing sth

I went there instead of her.

I drank a cup of coffee instead of tea.

Let's watch TV instead of playing cards.

8. advice n. 建议,忠告(不可数名词)

a piece of advice一条建议a piece of bread /paper /news / candy /cloth/cake

take one's advice=follow one's advice 听众某人的建议had better do sth.

You'd better take my advice next time.

advise v.

advise sb. to do sth.

My teacher advise me to have another try. (T)

请求疑问句表示:用委婉的语气表示期望得到肯定回答的疑问句,用some

May I help you? 您要买点什么/有什么需要我帮忙的吗

Can/Could you help me?你可以帮助我吗?

Would you like to come this way?请您这边来,好吗?Would you mind moving your car?请您移动一下汽车,好吗?回答使用:Yes /No

JANE:That's a good idea, Charlotte.简:这是个好主意,夏洛特。CHARLOTTE: It's ready. Do you want any milk?夏洛特:咖啡好了,你要放点奶吗?

be ready for sth和get ready for sth 都有准备的意思,但是用法不同be ready for表状态,而get ready 表动作.

I'm ready for the exam. I get ready for the exam. JANE: Just a little(代替a little milk) , please.简:请稍加一点。CHARLOTTE: What about (征求意见)some sugar?Two teaspoonfuls? 夏洛特:加些糖怎么样?两茶匙行吗?

What about the dress? 这条裙子怎么样?

What about going to a movie? 去看场电影如何?What about lending me some money? 借点钱给我如何?JANE:No, less than that. One and a half teaspoonfuls, please.That's enough(adj.) for me. 简:不,再少一些。请放一勺儿半。那对我已足够了。

2.令人愉快的It is nice to meet you. 见到你很高兴。

3.友好的; 好心的(kind) She was a nicest person. CHARLOTTE: Would you like some more?夏洛特:你再来点吗?JANE: Yes, please.(同意)No,thank you.简:好的,请再来一点。

JANE: I'd like a cigarette, too. May I have one?简:我还想抽枝烟。可以给我一枝吗?

tobacco〒指烟草,烟叶、烟丝。

cigarette ends 烟头cigarette case 香烟盒cigarette filter 滤嘴filtertipped cigarette 过滤嘴香烟smoke a cigarette 抽烟用于代替表示单个的事或人的名词或名词短语

CHARLOTTE: Of course=sure=certainly=no prblem. I think there are a few in that box.夏洛特:当然可以。我想那个盒子里有一些。

JANE: I'm afraid it's empty.简:恐怕盒子是空的。

be afraid of sth/sb: I'm afraid of ghoats.

be afraid for : be afraid of his life

be afraid to do: be afraid to die

"Are you late?”“I am afraid so.”“你晚点了吗?”“恐怕是晚了。”be afraid that ……恐怕,担心~

CHARLOTTE: What a pity! 夏洛特:真遗憾!

JANE: It doesn't matter. 简:没关系。
