隐喻与明喻的区别 我们习惯于通过“是”或“像”来定义隐喻与明喻的区别。比如,我问学生“王某某是猪”与“王某某像猪”的区别在哪里?学生回答,前者更肯定。我听听好像也对,用“是”确实比用“像”来得更肯定。但问题是,我明明知道“是”或“像”是用来区别隐喻与明喻的,难道,隐喻与明喻的区别仅仅在一者“更”肯定。一者“不太”肯定吗?况且,在我们汉语里,从来就不乏加强语气的手段,比如,我把句子变成“王某某很像猪” 或者“王某某非常像猪”,用增添上“很”或“非常”这样的副词来加强肯定语气不行吗?干吗还非得用“是”或“像”来区别呢?看来,“是”或“像”确实应该是用来区别隐喻与明喻的,而不是用来区别肯定或不肯定的。这没有问题,学生的理解有误。真正的问题是:“是”或“像”为什么能用来区别隐喻与明喻?难道,它们的差别仅仅是在修辞上的吗? 郭沫若有句著名的诗:“我是一条天狗啊。”这当然是隐喻。假如,我把它改成:我像一条天狗啊。它就成了明喻了吗?至少它看上去很别扭,好像不通啊。为什么会发生这样的情况呢?“我是一条天狗啊。”人们在看到这个句子时,并没有要求你外形上像天狗,只需你本质上与天狗相似就行。而“我像一条天狗啊。”人们就会质疑:你像天狗吗?天狗你见过吗?这似乎是一条有价值是思路:隐喻要求的是本质的相似,而明喻要求的是外形上的相似。 天狗长什么样,我们不知道,我们只知道天狗吞日的传说。因此,不能取其外形的像与不像,而应取其本质上的似与不似。在“我是一条天狗啊。”中“我”是所喻,即等待着被喻体比喻的本体,“天狗”是喻体,我们首先应该明白喻体的本质是什么,这是读诗解喻的基本
常识,因为,在被喻体比喻前,所喻只能是空白,它的本质需借用喻体的本质来定形。那么,天狗何为?或者说,天狗的本质是什么?一条天狗竟然敢去吞日!从其狂妄的行为中,透露出的是对高高在上不可一世的权威的叛逆。叛逆应该是天狗的本质。从喻体的叛逆我们可以倒推出本体的“我”也具有叛逆的本质。此时,我们再通过全诗和创作的年代来验证以上解读,假如没有相反的佐证,那么,一个“五四”时期狂飙突进不畏权威并具有叛逆精神的“愤青”形象就出来了。由此,我们得到了第二条有价值是思路:喻体是已定形的,本体是有待定形的,后者须借用前者的本质来定形自己的本质。 通过以上分析,我们可以得知:隐喻追求的是本质上的相似,明喻追求的是外形上的相似。所以,“我是一条天狗啊。”就只能说成“我是一条天狗啊。”,而不能说成“我像一条天狗啊。”否则,就显得情理不通。同理,“王某某是猪”与“王某某像猪”的区别也不在于“肯定”,而在于你的表达意图是什么――你想说“王某某本质上具有猪好吃懒做的品性”呢?还是仅仅想说“王某某的长相有点像猪”。假如你取的是前一种意思,那么,你只能用“是”以表示隐喻,假如你取的是后一种意思,那么,你只能用“像”表示明喻――修辞上的区别,实质上是表意的区别。 最后想说的是,深刻的或典型的隐喻是不说出喻体的,喻体这一显示本质意义的现象被“隐”藏了起来。比如,“她心碎了”,是把心比喻成了一个可碎的物体,心的伤痛欲绝与物体的可碎在本质上是相连的,此时,喻体隐去,所喻的意义已然隐含其中,具有自明性。 隐喻的奥秘,并且,诗人爱用隐喻的原因,也许就在这里吧。 (该文是学习陈嘉映《说隐喻》一文的体会,在借鉴观点的同时融入了自己的体悟与修正)
