We use the Internet for many things: business, shopping, writing letters, talking to people, finding information, and so on. In recent years, a new kind of English has grown on the Internet. There’s no real word for it yet, so we’ll call it e-talk.
People don’t like typing too much. To save time, they turn phrases into a few letters called acronyms(首字母缩略词). Acronyms are often used in chat rooms and forums. Some of them are:

Do you know what Oscar is? When did it start? Maybe you can find the background of the awards in the following passage.
The awards started in 1929. Their full title is “The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards”. The Academy is a group of people who have worked in the film industry for many years. Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying: Friends are God’s way of taking care of us. But how do you find real friendship and keep it? “The Care and Keeping of Friends” by American author Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends.
Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed and take care of it to make it grow.

Zhang Yimou and his films
A Chinese film directed by Zhang Yimou, won the Golden Lion Prize for
best movie at the 56th Venice Film Festival.
Zhang says it is the most satisfying film he has ever directed.
This is the third time that Zhang has won a prize at the Venice Film Festival. His Raise the Red Lantern won the Sliver Lion Prize in 1991. One year later, he won the Golden Lion Prize for the film The Story of Qiuju.
Zhang has won other prizes at international film festival. For example, he was awarded the Golden Bear Prize for his film Red Sorghum at the 38th Berlin International Movie Festival in 1988.
