Unit5 Asking the Way

Teaching Aims:

1: students can ask the way in an unfamiliar place.

2: students can give directions to strangers in real life.

Teaching Important Points:

To have the class learn key structures about asking the way by heart.

Teaching Difficult Points:

Understanding the dialogue, and using the key structures freely.

Teaching Procedures:

Ⅰ.Greetings:

T: Good afternoon, everyone.

S: Good afternoon, teacher.

T: Sit down, please.

Ⅱ.Lead-in:

(Ask the students to go over the names of the buildings and places.)

1. T: what’s this? (with a book in hand)

S: It is a book.

T: Yes, it is a book. Where can I buy it?

S: At a book shop.

2. T: I want to see a film. Where can I see it?

S: At a cinema.

3. T: I want to collect some stamps. Where can I buy them?

S: At a post office.

4. T: I want to take my family to enjoy flowers. Where shall we go?

S: To the parks.

5. T: My friend is ill. She needs to see a doctor. Where should she go?

S: To the hospital.

6. T: I want to buy some fruit and meat. Where can I buy some?

S: At a food shop.

T: Yes, or at a supermarket. So you know you can buy fruit, meat and vegetables at a supermarket.

T: These are the names of some places and buildings.

Ⅲ. Presentation.

T: Here is a map. There are some places and buildings. If you want to go somewhere but you don’t know the way, what will you do?

S: Ask someone the way.

T: Yes. Asking the way. Today, we will learn unit5, asking the way. Open you books. Turn to page59. There are three dialogues. They all take place in the street and tell us how to ask the way and theirs responses.

(Dialogue1)

T: Dialogue1 tell us a person who wants to go to the zoo. I want someone to read it for us, and then I will ask you some questions. Dialogue1, who want to try?

(Two students to read dialogue1, answer the following questions with the map)

Where does A want to go? (To the zoo)

What did he say to ask the way to the zoo?

How can he go to the zoo? (Go along this road until…)

Is there any bus running there? (No.)

(Example: can you tell me how to get to the school?)

(Dialogue2)

T: If there are some buses running there, it will be much easier to go to some places where you don’t know, and you won’t get lost. The next two Dialogues are about how to take a bus. Dialogue1, who want to try?

(Two students to read dialogue2)

Does No.8 bus go to the Zhongnan Department Store? (Yes.)

How can A get to the Zhongnan Department Store? (First, change to a No.8 bus and get off at the third stop…keep on going until…)

(Dialogue3)

T: Dialogue3, who want to try?

(Two students to read dialogue3)

Where is B going? (He is going to the hospital to see their teacher.)

Must B catch a No.7 bus to get there? (No, he needn’t. A No.13 bus will also take him there.)

Which bus he will take? Why? (He will take a No.13 bus, for No.13 buses run frequently.)

Is there any bus go to the cinema? (Yes, a No.13 bus.)

How can you get there? (You can take a No.13 bus and get off at the third stop, and you can see the cinema on you left.)

And so on…
