Doing Shopping Online

With the development of the Internet, shopping is no longer a tiring thing. Just click your mouse to choose the articles you like, and the purchase is done. You don't even have to step out of the room. It seems all easy and quick.

However, people's opinions vary on this trend. Some believe that on line shopping is time and money saving. With plentiful selection options, they can buy whatever they like at any time convenient. Still others insist that mis-purchasing alone is annoying enough, not to mention the credibility of the sellers and the safety of their accounts.

In my opinion, the convenience and excitement of on line shopping is beyond all doubts. In the meantime, we must always bear in mind that certain traps do exist, so we'd better make sure the sellers are trustworthy before buying. In addition, we should also guard ourselves from the potential hackers who might steal our account information.

但是,以“With the development of the Internet”为开首语,有些落入俗套,有硬套模板的嫌疑。

简化成With plentiful selections…

Nowadays, can we find a person who has not experienced online shopping? Definitely not. Online shopping is coming into fashion in most of cities due to the rapid development of internet technology.

Online shopping is welcomed by most people due to various reasons. From the perspective of consumer, it can save some time for people who don?t have much spare time. Just click the mouse, they can get whatever they want while staying at home. For the retailers, it can cut some costs for those who don?t have much circulating funds. They don?t have to rent a house and spend money on employees compared with the traditional trade mode. However, there are still some defects in online shopping. First, face to face deal makes online shopping less reliable and trustworthy. Second, people will lose the fun of bargain.

It is undeniable that shopping on the internet has become an irresistible trend in modern society. It?s of great urgency that we need to regulate the relative laws in accordance with the rapid growth of online shopping. Only in this way can we enjoy the pleasure and convenience of online shopping without the concern of being treated.

按照四级作文的要求,考生在第一段时应该总述现象并引出话题;

第二段考生应当从正反两方面来论述网购,分别铺陈其优缺点;关于优点,网购的优点很多,考生可择其最突出显著的方面来阐述,比如说网购可以节省很多时间;网购可以节省很多成本开支等;其次,缺点方面考生可以把重心放在诚信方面;为了不至于跟优点相比,缺点方面太轻,考生可以考虑稍微提一下其他缺点,比如说与传统购物相比,网购少去了很多砍价的乐趣;

Online shopping has been a boon to many industries and companies looking to expand their markets. Also, it's convenient for shoppers who are too busy to leave the house. However, in some cases nothing can replace a true face to face shopping experience.

Internet shopping is convenient for the mothers who spend all day doing house chores and for the fathers who work a full-time job. On the other hand, there are limits to shopping online, for example: guessing the correct size of clothing on a computer screen can be very frustrating.

For the busy mother and father, online shopping is a very useful and convenient tool. But, there are instances, like clothes shopping, where nothing beats the real thing.

Part III Listening Comprehension

Section A

11.

M: I left 20 pages here to copy. Here is the receipt.

W: I'm sorry, sir. But we're a little behind. Could you come back in a few minutes?

Q: What does the woman mean?

答案:C. She has not got the man's copies ready.

原文中男生想出示收据来拿复印材料,然后女生说“ we're a little behind.

12.

W: I hope you're not too put out with me for the delay. I have to stop by friends' home to pick up a book on my way here.

M: Well, that's not a big deal. But you might at least phone if you know you're going to keep someone waiting.

Q: What do we learn about the woman from the conversation?

答案:B. She was late for the appointment.

注意对"be put out with sb"(对……

13.

W: Mark is the best candidate for chairman of the student union, isn't he?

M: Well, that guy won't be able to win the election unless he gets some majority vote from women students. And I'm not sure about that.

Q: What does the man mean?

答案:C. It won't be easy for Mark to win the election.

14.

M: Sorry to have kept you waiting, Madam. I've located your luggage. It was left behind in Paris and won't arrive until later this evening.

W: Oh, I can't believe this. Have it deliver to my hotel then , I guess.

Q: What happened to the woman's luggage?

答案:A. It failed to arrive at its destination in time.

15.

W: I don't think we have enough information for our presentation, but we have to give it tomorrow. There doesn't seem to be much we can do about it.

M: Yeah, at this point we 'll have to make do with what we've got.

Q: What does the man suggest they do?

答案:A. Just make use of whatever information is available.

考点为第二人建议题,"at this point, we?ll have to do…" 这里“we 'll have to make do with what we've got.”

16.

M: I am taking this great course-Psychology of Language, it's really interesting. Since you are a psychology major, you should sign up for it.

W: Actually I tried to do that, but they told me I have to take language studies first.

Q: What do we learn from the conversation?

答案:D. The woman isn?t qualified to take the course the man mentioned.

17.

W: Can you believe the way Larry was talking to his roommate? No wonder they don't get along.

M: Well, maybe Larry was just reacting to something his roommate said. There are two sides to every story you know.

Q: What does the man imply about Larry and his roommate?

答案:A. They are both to blame.

18.

M: We don't have the resources to stop those people from buying us out unless a miracle happens. This may be the end of us. W: I still have hope we can get help from the bank. After all we don't need that much money.

Q: What do we learn about the speakers from the conversation?

答案:A. They are in desperate need of financial assistance.

因此63选but。

Big men aren't necessarily strong men.

70. 根据本段最后一句,Now后面的描述,我们知道,原先并不是这样,原先只注重应聘者的潜力,其实“saw it as part of their job to extract the value of an applicant' s skills”也是一个佐证。

学生、员工的“表现”,通常用perform/performance这个词。

In contrast,相反;In essence,本质上;Of course,当然。

Bristol PLuS

Part VI Translation

82. Even though they were already late, they would rather stop for the beautiful view(宁愿停下来欣赏美丽的景色) than just go on.

→ sth.),stop to do sth. 或者stop and do sth.。

83. No agreement was reached in the discussion between the two parties, as either side refuses to soften their positions

84. The pills could have cured the cancer patient (本来可以治愈那位癌症病人的), but he didn't follow the doctor's advice and take them regularly.

85. It is really kind of you to give me so much help(你真好,给了我那么多帮助);I really feel obliged to you.

解析:

本题令人欣喜,因为对于it is kind of sb. to do sth.

86. The war left the family scattered all over the world, and it was thirty years before they were able to reunite(他们才得以重聚)

之前”的意思外,A从句+ before + B从句还能理解为A,B两事先后发生,即A之后,B接着发生。

今年6月的六级翻译考题难度不大,把握关键句法结构,如84题的虚拟语气,85题的it is kind of sb. to do sth.

As a manager, Tiffany is responsible for interviewing applicants for some of the positions with her company .During one interview, she noticed that the candidate never made direct eye contact. She was puzzled and somewhat disappointed because she liked the individual otherwise. He had a perfect resume and gave good responses to her questions, but the fact that he never looked her in the eye said “untrustworthy,” so she decided to offer the job to her second choice. “It wasn’t until I attended a diversity workshop that I realized the person we passed over was the perfect person,” Tiffany confesses. What she hadn’t known at the time of the interview was that the candidate’s “different” behavior was simply a cultural misunderstanding . He was an Asian-American raised in a household where respect for those in authority was shown by averting(避开) your eyes. “I was just thrown off by the lack of ye contact; not realizing it was cultural,” Tiffany says. “I missed out ,but will not miss that opportunity again.” Many of us have had similar encounters with behaviors we perceive as different.

Nothing succeeds without a strong will There is a prevalent joke around young people saying that ‘quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world, and I’ve done it for hundreds of times.’ This seemingly funny statement ironically reflects the fact that the determination of most youngsters is oftentimes started with enthusiasm, but the passion becomes increasingly weaker each day, and then diminishes as if there has been no such thing at all. It is obvious that their failure in ‘quitting smoking’ and decline of determination are all ascribed to their lack of will. Initially, every success involves several stages of setbacks and risks, and we need to summon up our will to conquer them. Moreover, there are enormous temptation in our path of pursuit of success. For instance, when we plan to quit smoking, our roommates may smoke freely in front of us; when we are eager to keep fit, our close friends may invite us to have late night snacks. Under these occasions, only strong will can assist us to resist the temptation, and persist in chasing our goals until we triumphantly realize them. In short, no dream will successfully come true if we do not have strong will. An old famous proverb says that ‘ where there is a will, there is a way’. Let us bear this motton in mind no matter how many thunders and thorns are on our roads ahead, then we will be successful with such precious and powerful spirit.

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will by commenting on the humorous saying, "Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I've done it hundreds of times." You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words. Part II Reading Comprehension (Skimming and Scanning) Why Integrity Matters What is Integrity? The key to integrity is consistency--not only setting high personal standards for oneself (honesty, responsibility, respect for others, fairness) but also living up to those standards each day. One who has integrity is bound by and follows moral and ethical standards even when making life's hard choices, choices which may be clouded by stress, pressure to succeed, or temptation. What happens if we lie, cheat, steal, or violate other ethical standards? We feel disappointed in ourselves and ashamed. But a lapse of integrity also affects our relationships with others. Trust is essential in any important relationship, whether personal or professional. Who can trust someone who is dishonest or unfair? Thus, integrity must be one of our most important goals. Risky Business We are each responsible for our own decisions, even if the decision-making process has been undermined by stress or peer pressure. The real test of character is whether we can learn from our mistake, by understanding why we acted as we did, and then exploring ways to avoid similar problems in the future. Making ethical decisions is a critical part of avoiding future problems. We must learn to recognize risks, because if we can't see the risks we're taking, we can't make responsible choices. To identify risks, we need to know the rules and be aware of the facts. For example, one who doesn't know the rules about plagiarism may accidentally use words or ideas without giving proper credit, or one who fails to keep careful research notes may unintentionally fail to quote and cite sources as required. But the fact that such a violation is "unintentional" does not excuse the misconduct. Ignorance is not a defense. "But Everybody Does It" Most people who get in trouble do know the rules and facts, but manage to fool themselves about the risks they're taking by using excuses: "Everyone else does it," "I'm not hurting anyone," or "I really need this grade." Excuses can get very elaborate: "I know I'm looking at another's exam, even though I'm supposed to keep my eyes on my own paper, but that's not cheating because I'm just checking my answers, not copying." We must be honest about our actions, and avoid excuses. If we fool ourselves into believing we're not doing anything wrong, we can't see the real choice we're making--and that leads to bad decisions. To avoid fooling yourself, watch out for excuses and try this test: Ask how you would feel if your actions were public, and anyone could be watching over your shoulder. Would you feel proud or ashamed of your actions? If you'd rather hide your actions, that's a good indication that you're taking a risk and rationalizing it to yourself.
