1. Man can't go on increasing his number at the present rate. In the next 30 years man will face a period of crisis.1 experts believe that there will be a widespread food shortage. Other experts think this is too pessimistic(悲观的), and man can prevent things 2 worse than they are now.

One thing that man can do is to limit the number of babies born. The need for this is obvious,3 it is not easy to achieve. People have to be persuaded to limit their families. The parents think that this 4 a bigger income for the family and ensures there will be someone in the family who will look after them in old age.

Several governments have 5 birth control policies in recent years. Among them are Japan, China. India and Egypt. In some cases the results have not been successful. Japan has been an exception. People were encouraged to limit their families in the 1950's, which has effectively reduced the birth rate in Japan.

四、阅读理解(共1道小题,总分值25分)

1. All over the world people enjoy sports. Sports help to keep people healthy, happy and help them to live longer.

Sports change with the season. People play different games in winter and summer. Games and sports often grow out of people's work and everyday activities. The Arabs use horses or camels in much of their everyday life; they use them in their sports, too.

Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for them. Football, for example, has spread around the world. Swimming is popular in all countries near the sea or in those with many rivers.

Some sports or games go back to thousands of years ago, like running or jumping. Chinese boxing, for example, has a very long history. But basketball and volleyball are rather new. Neither one is a hundred years old yet. People are inventing new sports or games all the time.

People from different countries may not be able to understand each other, but after a game they often become good friends. Sports help to train a person's character. One learns to fight hard but fight fair, to win without pride and to lose with grace. (25分)

2018年12月大学英语六级范文:Credit Cards on College Campus 导读:本文2018年12月大学英语六级范文:Credit Cards on College Campus,仅供参考,如果觉得很不错,欢迎点评和分享。 英语六级易考范文:Credit Cards on College Campus As is shown in the chart, the percentage of collegestudents using credit cards has risen markedly inthe past few years. An increasing number of students would rather usecredit cards than cash to pay for everything. There are at least three factors accounting for theincreasing use of credit cards. For one thing, a credit card will offer students a safeway to pay their tuition fees, thus it diminishes the risk of taking a large sum ofmoney with oneself. For another, most credit cards provide a variety of services, such as a greater convenienceof shopping and spending, streamlining collection procedures, etc. In addition, students can draw money with a credit card anytime they want, thus solve theproblem of money shortage.

2018年大学英语第一学期期末考试

2018年大学英语第一学期期末考试(A卷) Part II Reading Comprehension (30 %) Directions: There are four passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center. Passage One Science is not a set of unquestionable results but a way of understanding the world around us. Its real work is slow. The scientific method , as many of us learned in school, is a gradual process that begins with a purpose or problem or question to be answered. It includes a list of materials, a procedure to follow, a set of observations to make and, finally, conclusions to reach. In medicine, when a new drug is proposed that might cure or control a disease, it is first tested on a large random group of people, and their reactions are then compared with those of another random group not given the drug. All reactions in both groups are carefully recorded and compared, and the drug is evaluated. All of this takes time and patience. It’s the result of course, that makes the best news—not the years of quiet work that characterize the bulk of scientific inquiry. After an experiment is concluded or an observation is made, the result continues to be examined critically. When it is submitted for publication, it goes to a group of the scientist’s colleagues, who review the work. Einstein was right when he said: “No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right, a single experiment can at any time prove me wrong.” In August 1996, NASA announced the discovery in Antarctica of a meteorite(流星)from Mars that might contain evidence of ancient life on another world. As President Clinton said that day, the possibility that life existed on Mars billions of years ago was potentially one of the great discoveries of our time. After the excitement wore down and initial papers were published, other researchers began looking at samples from the same meteorite. Some concluded that the “evidence of life”was mostly contamination from Antarctic ice or that there was nothing organic at all in the rock. Was this a failure of science, as some news reports trumpeted? No! It was a good example of the scientific method working the way it is supposed to. Scientists spend years on research, announce their findings, and these findings are examined by other scientists. That’s how we learn. Like climbing a mountain, we struggle up three feet and fall back two. It’s a process filled with disappointments and reverses, but somehow we keep moving ahead.
