Love Him as You Were Once Loved
One day, an 80-year-old man was sitting on the sofa with his highly educated son. Suddenly a crow rested on their window.
The old man asked his son, “What is this?” The son replied, “It is a A crow

Are people less happy or more happy the older they get? If you answered more happy, then you were right. Based on a study published two years ago, people generally become happier and experience less worry after age 50. In fact, the study found that by the age of 85, people are happier with their life than they were at 18.
The findings came from a Gallup survey of more than 340,000 adults in the USA in 2008. At that time, those adults were between the ages of 18 and 85. Professor Arthur Stone from Stony Brook University led the study. His team found that levels of stress were highest among adults between the ages of 22 and 25. Stress levels dropped sharply after people reached their 50s. Happiness was highest among the youngest adults and those in their early 70s. But the people least likely to report feeling negative (消极的) emotions were those in their 70s and 80s.
The survey also found that men and women have similar emotional patterns (模式) as they grow older. However, women at all ages reported more sadness, stress and worry than men did.
The researchers also considered possible influences like having young children, being jobless or being single. But they found that influences like these did not affect the levels of happiness and well-being related to age.
So why would happiness increase with age? One point is that, as people grow older, they become more thankful for what they have and have better control of their emotions. They also spend less time thinking about bad experiences.
Aging can bring other obvious improvements. In a study, people in their 80s reported the fewest sleep problems. Researchers surveyed more than 150,000 American adults. The study was led by Michael Grandner at the University of
Pennsylvania. The original goal of the study was to prove the popular belief that aging is connected with increased sleep problems. The survey did find an increase during middle age, especially in women. But except for that, people reported that they felt their sleep quality (质量) improved as they got older. And a better sleep quality brings
a deeper sense of happiness.

So if you really long for success, look back at the people who come in and out of your life. Are most of the people you know supportive or unsupportive? When people around you aren’t supportive, what kind of person do you become? Do you become shy, fearful, hateful and unhappy? When you connect with those who are supportive, what happens to you? Do you become open, lively, happy, strong and brave?
Taylor loves music, and her dream is to become a singer one day. Whenever she talks about her big dream, none of her friends ever give her a fist bump (碰拳) to encourage her. Taylor always complains that her friends are not supportive enough but walking away from them leaves her in loneliness. She has no better choice but to keep hanging out with them. However, the more time she spends with them, the worse she feels about herself.
We can all make a mindful decision about the environment around us. Relate more to those who make you happy being “you”, or who support you in being “you”. If you have to be around those who aren’t supportive, then simply accept them as they are, without going after them for more than what they can provide to you.

You can study the English language for years but still not understand a native (本地的) speaker of English when you meet one. Native speakers say a lot of things, but you can’t find them in any dictionar y. Well, don’t worry. Here’s a secret: a lot of British people can’t understand each other either!
There are different local accents (口音) across the UK, and a number of areas have several different accents. That is, they have their own vocabulary and expressions. There were at least six different accents born to London the last time I counted.
Worse than that, it is not just where a person is born in the UK that decides his accent. For example, a language and its accents often change across class or level of education. Another example is how languages can differ among age groups in the UK. The words and pronunciation used by young people in the UK can be completely
different compared with those used by adults. They are creating a “yoof culture”.
The word “yoof” is a slang (俚语) spelling of “youth”. Some people don' t consider “yoof” to be a positive (积极的) term since its pronunciation is easier and lazier than “youth”. Other people see the term as positive, because it describes how young people are creating their own language, idea and culture.
When parents find it difficult to understand their children, the children can say more things without the examining of their parents.
