(1)

A hobby can be almost anything that a person likes to do in his spare time. Hobbyists raise pets, watch birds, paint pictures, play the piano and grow flowers. 66 They collect everything from books to butterflies and from boxes to stamps.

People take up hobbies because these activities offer enjoyment, friendship and relaxation. Hobbies help people relax after a long time of hard work, and provide a balance (平衡) between work and play. Hobbies offer interesting activities for the old. Some hobbies can make a child grow as a person, develop his interest and help him learn new skills. 67 Doctors have found that hobbies are useful in helping patients (病人) recover (恢复) from illness. Hobbies give patients who can’t move around something to do, and provide interests that keep them from thinking about themselves. Many hospitals treat (治疗) patients by having them take up interesting hobbies. 68 In early times, most people were too busy making a living to have many hobbies. But some persons who had spare time did enjoy hobbies. 69 People today have more time than ever before for hobbies. Machines have now reduced much time that people must spend on their jobs.

70 Those who have developed hobbies never need to worry about what to do with their newly-found free time hours. Sir William Osler, a famous Canadian doctor expressed the value (价值) of hobbies by saying, “No man is really happy or safe without a hobby.”

You know you have to read "between the lines" to get the most out of anything. I want to tell you something important during your reading.

You shouldn't mark a book which isn't yours. 61 If you think it useful to mark books, you will have to buy them.

There are two ways in which one can own a book. The first is to get the right by paying for it, just as you pay for clothes and furniture. But full ownership comes only when you have made it a part of yourself. 62 There are three kinds of book owners. The first has all the best sellers — unread and untouched. The second has a great many books. 63 The third has a few dog-eared (翻折的) books, which are marked from front to back.

Why is marking a book necessary? First, it keeps you awake. In the second place, reading is thinking. 64 The marked book is usually the thought-through book. Finally, writing helps you remember the thoughts you had, or the thoughts the writer expressed.

If reading is to learn anything more than passing time, it must be active. The book you read for pleasure can be read in a state of relaxation, and nothing is lost. But for a great book, rich in ideas, reading must be active. 65 You should come up with an understanding of what you have read.

根据材料内容,将A-E五个句子填入文中空缺处,使短文完整、正确,并将其标号填写在下面题号后的横线上。

A. You can't let your eyes move across the lines.

B. But most of them are as clean as the day they were bought.

C. And thinking can express itself in words, spoken or written.

D. People who lend you books expect you to keep them clean.

E. The best way to make yourself a part of it is by writing in it.

61. ____ .

So I stood in a doorway and waited for the rain to stop. 3 What was worse, there even wasn't a person around, and still it rained and rained. At last a young man came to the place where I was standing. 4 As I hoped he would allow me to walk to the next corner with him, where I could get a taxi, I stepped out of the dark doorway where I had been standing. 5 As I suddenly appeared before him, the young man was so shocked that he dropped the umbrella. Here are some suggestions for you to bridge generation gap(代沟). Don't argue with your parents. Don't get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won't consider your ideas if you are shouting at them You can't express(表达)yourself well if you are angry. Go to some place to cool off. That's how thousands of people start their day at Laughter (笑声)Clubs around the world and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy. The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. "Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day," says Dr. Kataria. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn't interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha.” while looking at each other. However, our bodies can't tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects. Surprisingly, it worked! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed-and comfortable I felt. The "G" stands for the "generation" (代)of your mobile network. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive. On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks. About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data(数据) faster than ever before. But 5G won't just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today's self-driving test cars have one problem-lag(延迟). When the car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物), it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions, However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer. 5G could also be used to power the internet of things (IoT), that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside. (1)Which city was 5G tested for the first time? A. Beijing. B. Shanghai. C. Shenzhen. (2)What can we infer(推测) according to the passage?. A. 5G is widely used in China now. B. 5G networks will make our lives more convenient. C.
