Freda Bright says, "Only in opera do people die of love." It's true. You really can't love somebody to death. I've known people to die from no love, but I've never known anyone to be loved to death. We just can't love one another enough.

A heart-warming story tells of a woman who finally decided to ask her boss for a raise in salary. All day she felt nervous and apprehensive. Late in the afternoon she summoned the courage to approach her employer. To her delight, the boss agreed to a raise.

The woman arrived home that evening to a beautiful table set with their best dishes. Candles were softly glowing. Her husband had come home early and prepared a festive meal. She wondered if someone from the office had tipped him off, or... did he just somehow know that she would not get turned down?

She found him in the kitchen and told him the good news. They embraced and kissed, and then sat down to the wonderful meal. Next to her plate the woman found a beautifully lettered note. It read, "Congratulations, darling! I knew you'd get the raise! These things will tell you how much I love you."

Following the supper, her husband went into the kitchen to clean up. She noticed that a second card had fallen from his pocket. Picking it off the floor, she read, "Don't worry about not getting the raise! You deserve it anyway! These things will tell you how much I love you."

Someone has said that the measure of love is when you love without measure. What this man feels for his wife is total acceptance and love, whether she succeeds or fails. His love celebrates her victories and cure her wounds. He stands with her, no matter what life throws in their direction.

Upon receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, Mother Teresa said, "What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family." And love your friends. Love them without measure.

56. By saying "Only in opera do people die of love.", the writer wants to tell us that ______.

A. giving love is better than receiving love

B. love in opera is better than that in real life

C. people are too greedy to have enough love

D. to die from love is no better than to die from no love

57. From the passage we can infer that ________.

A. the woman must have thought about asking for a salary raise for a long time

B. the boss of the woman must be a kind person

C. the woman was a courageous person

D. the husband must have got the news before his wife got home

58. The husband prepared a festive meal in order to _______.

A. show how good he was at cooking

B. celebrate her wife?s success in raising the salary

C. thank her wife?s boss for raising her salary

D. show how deeply he loved his wife

59. What Mother Teresa said means that _________.

A. loving your family is more important than promoting world peace

B. loving your friends is to promote the world peace

C. everybody can promote the world peace by loving his own family without measure

D. no matter what life throws in our direction, our family is always our first concern

The Chinese word “Shanzhai” means a small mountain village, but now it becomes an accepted name for fakes(假货)after “Sh anzhai Cellphones” produced by small workshops in southern China became popular in the mainland market over the past two years.

Besides that “Shanzhai” has electronic products, there are “Shanzhai” movies, “Shanzhai” stars and even a “Shanzhai” Spring Festival Gala, a copy of the 25-year-old traditional show presented by CCTV on Chinese Lunar New Year?s Eve.

“Shanzhai” has become a culture of its own, symbolizing anything that imitates something famous. The phenomenon has caused a public debate over whether it is healthy or sick being a copycat.

In southwestern China?s Chongqing Municipality, a “Shanzhai” version “Bird?s Nest” woven by farmers with bamboo attracts wide attention and the “Shanzhai” version “Water Cube” is popular with tourists too. Both are copies of the famous Olympics buildings in Beijing.

Xie Xizhang, a literature critic, said that taking the “Shanzhai” Gala as an example, when the traditional CCTV program becomes less and less attractive to the audience, the “Shanzhai” version a ppears naturally to attract people.“In spite of its poor techniques and operation, …Shanzhai?culture meets the psychological demands of common people and could be a comfort to their minds,” Xie said.

Tian Huiqun, a professor at Beijing Normal University, s aid that “Shanzhai” culture never copies classic things, only trendy products. In that sense, it?s like a computer virus, multiplying without meaning.

Though controversial, “Shanzhai” culture is becoming a widely accepted phenomenon.

To the mainstream cultu re, the rise of “Shanzhai” culture is a challenge as well as a motivation, said Xie.Tian said different kinds of cultures developing together is an ideal situation and it is for the public to choose. 60.The Chinese Word“Shanzhai”may have its origin in _________.

A.fake cellphones B.electronic products

C.Spring Festival Gala D.Olympics buildings

61.The underlined word “imitates” is closest in meaning to _______.

A.steals B.copies C.advertises D.cheats 62.According to the passage, “Shanzhai” culture refers to ________.

A.The action that a person imitates famous people

B.anything that imitates something famous

C.those similar names to famous brand

D.products with poor techniques and quality

63.We can infer that the mainstream culture ________.

A.w ill be held back by “Shanzhai” culture

B.will sooner or later be replaced by “Shanzhai”culture

C.may develop faster because of the challenging of “Shanzhai”culture

D.thinks nothing of the challenge of “Shanzhai”culture

C

“Image is everything.” An entire industry has been built upon the assumption that image is everything, but when it comes down to it, an appealing image is not enough. If there is no substance(事实) behind the image, the product, service or person will fail eventually.

First of all, one should consider how important image is in the selling of products and services. Advertising agencies have raised the art of creating an image to a state of near perfection. Public concept of that product or service is certainly managed by the images created by the advertising agencies. But if the product or service does not live up to the image that was created, the customer will be very dissatisfied and possibly ask for their money back. For example, the Arthur Andersen accounting firm had spent decades building up an image of trustworthiness. But the recent scandal (丑闻) showed that behind that image, it cheated in business practices. Despite the previous positive image, the firm is being accused of criminal actions and it will probably not survive as a business unit. Although the image had been nearly perfect, the reality behind the image has led to the downfall of the world famous accounting firm.

Similarly, personal advisers can build up a public image for politicians and movie stars. Putting out positive news releases, making sure that only the best photographs are published, and ensuring that the person is seen in all the right places can build up a very positive image in the view of the general commons. But once again, history is filled with examples of both politicians and movie stars that fell from grace like the story of the Hollywood actor giving in to the pressures of fame and fortune. With people, just as with products and services, image is certainly important, but without positive substance behind the image, failure is close.

To summarize, it is clear that an appealing image is extremely important to success, whether that image is related to selling a product or service or to the “selling” of a person. But image is only h alf of the equation. What lies behind that image is every bit as important as the image itself —— the person or product must deliver on that image or there is little chance for long-term success.

64.The downfall of the Arthour Andersen accounting firm is due to ________.

A. its dishonesty in business

B. its previous images

C. its bad management

D. its poor service

65.Why did some famous people fall from grace?

A. Their images were not well built up

B. They failed to live up to their images.

C.They felt much pressure from the public

D. They paid little attention to fame and fortune.

66.The structure of the passage is ________.

A: Argument P: Point C: Conclusion

67. The author tries to argue that _________.

A. image creates everything

B. image is the key to success

C. truth is unlikely ever to be equalled

D. truth and image are equally important

Warning: reading too much Cinderella(灰姑娘) to your daughter may damage her emotional health in later life. A paper to be developed at the international congress of cognitive psychotherapy(认知心理疗法) in Gothenburg suggests a link between the attitudes of women abused(虐待) by their parents and early exposure to the wrong sort of fairy tales. It says girls who identified with Cinderella, Rapunzel(莴苣女孩) and Beauty in Beauty and the Beast were more likely to stay in destructive relationships as adults.

The theory was developed by Susan Darker Smith, a psychotherapist at the University of Derby. She interviewed 67 female abuse survivors and found that 61 put up with severe abuse because they believed they could change their partners with patience, composition and love. The same view was taken by male survivors who had been abused as children. Hardly any of the women in a control group, who had not experienced abuse, thought they could change their partners in this way.

The same view was taken by male survivors who had been abused as children. These women and men said they would leave a relationship rather than put up with abuse from a partner. Ms Darker Smith found the abused women were much more likely to identify with Cinderella and other submissive female characters in fairytales, who were later rescued by a stranger prince or hero.

Although most girls heard the stories, damage appeared to be done to those who adopted the characters as role models. “They believe if their love is strong enough they can change their parents? behaviors,” she said.”Overexposure in children to stories that emphasize the transformational qualities of love may make women believe they can change their partners.” For example, they might never have understood the obvious flaw in the story of Rapunzel, who remained locked in a high tower until rescued by a knight on a white horse, who broke the door down. “The question,”said Ms Darker Smith, “is why she did not break the door down herself.”

72.The passage is especially intended for _________.

A.parents with young daughters B.girls who like reading fairy stories

C.girls who think they can change their partners D.parents with grown-up daughters 73.Cinderella, Rapunzel and Beauty in Beauty and the Beast are similar in that _________.

A.They all married some princes B.They all changed their partners with love

C.They were all abused by their partners D.They all put up with abuse

74.Which of the following statements is true of the women in a control group?

A.They don?t believe in fairy tales.

B.They don?t believe in the transformational qualities of love.

C.They have also experienced abuse.

D.They survived abuse.

75.What does the underlined word “submissive”in the 3rd paragraph probably mean?

A.kind-hearted B.passive C.gentle D.easy-going

书面表达

More and more Chinese middle school students have gone abroad to study since the 1990s. As many language learners say, may have a lot of advantages. The students usually become fluent in the language and can make friends with people from different backgrounds and have a good knowledge of foreign cultures. They can also broaden their horizons and improve their understanding of their own culture while studying abroad. Besides, they have to learn to depend on themselves.

Of course, studying abroad may have its disadvantages as well. It is possible that some of them may fall behind in their studies. On the other hand, some students may feel it unsafe to stay abroad on their own. Moreover, their parents may be concerned about the high cost.

In my opinion, the students had better finish their college education in China and then go abroad to take further education. If parents do hope to send their children to study abroad, I advise them to look before they act.

2019届上海市各高中名校高三英语题型分类专题汇编--阅读理解B篇--老师版(带答案已校对珍藏版)

III. Reading Comprehension Section B Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read. B Kettlebells do not hurt people. People do. A kettlebell will get your respect – the easy way or the hard way. Here is the easy way. 1. Get a medical clearance. Get clearance, especially from an orthopedist and a cardiologist. The latter is no joking matter, since kettlebell training can be extremely intense. 2. Always be aware of your surroundings. Find a training area with a non-slippery surface on which you are not afraid to drop a kettlebell. The area must be clear of objects you might trip over – including other kettlebells – or that you might hit with a kettlebell. There should be no people or animals in a radius where you could injure them. 3. Train barefoot or wear shoes with a flat, thin sole and room for the toes to spread. Training barefoot is superior for health and performance reasons. If you must wear shoes, wear Converse Chuck Taylors, Vibram Five Fingers, or similar shoes that have thin soles and do not pinch the toes together. You have sensory receptors on the bottoms of your feet that make you stronger and improve balance and coordination. Wearing traditional shoes diminishes the ability of these receptors to work properly, and therefore inhibits performance and can increase the risk of injury. Go native. 4. Never contest for space with a kettlebell. Do not try to save a rep that has gone wrong. Guide the kettlebell to fall harmlessly, and move out of the way if necessary. And remember, quick feet are happy feet. 5. Practice all safety measures at all times. Respect every kettlebell, even the lightest one. Always use perfect form picking up and setting down a kettlebell. The set is not over until the bell is safely parked.
