Section A
11. M: The service in this restaurant is really terrible.
W: Right. It’s high time they got rid of half of the staff here, if you ask me.
Q: What conclusion can we draw from the conversation?
The service…is really terrible(服务真是糟透了),女士回答说Right,即认同男士的观点,故答案为[C]。
12. W: Could you have my bike ready before ten? Recently the brake hasn’t worked well.
M: Sure, I’ll check it. That won’t be a big problem. You may come and pick it up before ten o’clock.
Q: Where did this conversation most probably take place?
【解 析】选[B]。对话中女士提到the brake hasn’t worked well(刹车不灵了),选项[B]中的repair与女士的话对应,故[B]为答案。sth. doesn’t work well意为“某物坏了”。
13. M: I’m having trouble fitting into my jeans. Looks like I’ll have to get some new ones.
W: Oh, you wouldn’t do that if you just cut down on what you eat.
Q: What does the woman imply the man should do?
【解 析】选[B]。女士的话just cut down on what you eat为听音重点,[B]的内容是对女士话的同义转述,故为答案。have trouble doing sth.意为“做某事有麻烦”;cut down on sth.
14. W: Paul would be much wiser to stay in this country another year finishing his Master’s Degree than to rush home and to take over his uncle’s business now. Don’t you think so?
M: Yes, I couldn’t agree with you more.
Q: What does the man mean?
I couldn’t agree with you more,结合女士所说的Paul…wiser to…another year finishing…Degree可知,[C]的内容为男士的话的同义转述,故[C]为答案。couldn’t agree with sb. more意为“非常同意某人的观点”;take over sb’s business意为“接管某人的生意”。
15. W: Do you think Professor Green will make you redo the entire experiment?
M: I don’t know. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Q: What is the man planning to do?

W: You’ll never be able to get parts for it. It might be time to invest in a more recent model.
Q: What does the woman imply about the washing machine?
You’ll never be able to get parts for it(你永远都买不到它的零件了)

17. M: There is Nick on his motorcycle. Did he take it to the garage to be fixed?
W: Don’t be foolish. That would have been a waste of money. It only had a flat tire.
Q: What does the woman imply?
【解 析】选[A]。 Did he take it to the garage to be fixed?(他是到车店修理的吗?),女士回答时提到Don’t be foolish.(不要傻了),否定了男士的看法,即认为Nick没有到车店修理,自己修理,故答案为[A]。
18. W: You took an optional course this semester, didn’t you? How is it going?
M: Terrible. It seems like the more the professor talks, the less I understand.
Q: How does the man feel about the course?
【解 析】选[B]。对话中男士提到,the more the professor talks, the less I understand(老师讲得越多,我越不明白)由此可知,男士跟不上老师的进度,[B]的表述与此一致, 故为答案。

Now you will hear the two long conversations.
Conversation One

M: Good morning, Mrs. Green. You want to see me?
W: Yes, Jim. Let’s review what you’ve done so far. You were hired as a mail clerk about five years ago. You’ve learned a lot since then, haven’t you?
M: Sure. I learned more about the company because I went around to different offices. Then I was promoted to mail distribution clerk. That’s two grades higher than the mail clerk. So I skipped a grade. I went from Grade 1 to Grade 3.
W: Did you like that job?
M: Yeah, my pay went up, and every year I moved up a step. Every time I moved up a step, I got a pay raise. It was a Grade 3, Step F. But I didn’t go outside. I was usually in the mail room. I was in charge of the other messenger clerks.
W: You were a boss.
M: Right. After three years, the manager said he wanted to help me move up. They gave me a little test — arithmetic, alphabetizing, and some typing.
W: You did well on the test.
M: Yes. I did well because I studied at an adult school, and I practiced at home before the test. So I got this job as senior clerk. I’m a Grade 5 now.
W: Well, Jim, here is another chance to move up the ladder. The Mail Department is getting some new computers. We will give everybody two days of training. The people who learn quickly can go to school for more training.
M: You mean going to school on company time? Go to school instead of coming to work?
W: Yes, because it will help you in your work later. You can be promoted to production programming after you’ve learned to use computer. The job starts at Grade 7.
M: Well, I’d like to think about it for a few days. Maybe I should stay where I am now. Questions 19 to 22 are based on the conversation you have just heard.
19. What is mainly discussed in the conversation?

20. How many years did it take the man to move up to Grade 5?
21. Who can get the chance to go to school for more training?
We will give everybody two days of training和The people who learn quickly can go to school for more training的综合表述。
22. What can be inferred from the conversation?
I’d like to think about it for a few days(他要考虑几天),但Maybe I should stay where I am now(可能会留在原职位), 由此可推断出,他对这次脱产培训带来的升迁机会不是很感兴趣,故答案为[B]。

Conversation Two

M: Hello, Mary. Fancy meeting you here!
W: Hi, Peter. Yes, I’m here again, there always seems to be a queue. I’m writing a report for my economics class. How about you?
M: I’m still working on my essay for environmental science. I need to check out a reference.
W: You know, when I first started doing my report I was frightened to use these computer catalogues. I was sure something would go wrong.
M: But they’re so useful. You can see at a glance what books you need and if they’re checked out or not.
W: I know that now, but at the beginning I really missed the card catalogues. But anyway I still have the same problem I used to have, knowing what to look up!
M: Yes, I agree, it’s the same for me. Last week I must have wasted two hours looking for information on a topic I was working on.
W: Really? What was the topic?
M: It was about the effect of smoking by parents on their children’s sleep. I looked up sleeping, child psychology, child development, problems in social work, children’s medical problems, and I can’t remember what else. In the end, I had to go back and ask my tu

tor for help.
W: You know, I took a study skills class because I thought it would help me locate information, and all I learned was how to read the cards, which wasn’t of much help! My real problem is knowing what card to look up.
M: Yes, and that takes thinking! Pity the computer can’t do that for us.
W: Maybe it will some day. Oh, look, there’s a free computer now.
M: Yes, thanks. See you! Questions 23 to 25 are based on the conversation you have just heard.
23. What is the man’s purpose to come here?
对话一开始男士提到,…working on…essay for environmental science…need to check out a reference(为环境科学论文查找参考资料),故答案为[C]。
【点睛】[C]中的find some materials是对对话中check out a reference的同义转述。
24. What can we learn from the conversation?
I’m still working on my essay for environmental science(他正在写环境科学方面的论文), 故答案为[B]。
【点睛】[B]中的writing an essay是对男士所说working on my essay的同义转述。
25. What is the man going to do soon?

Section B Passage One

Runners in a relay race pass a stick in one direction. However, merchants passed silk, gold, fruit, and glass along the Silk Road in more than one direction. They earned their living by traveling the famous Silk Road.
The Silk Road was not a simple trading network. It passed through thousands of cities and towns. It started from eastern China, across Central Asia and the Middle East, and ended in the Mediterranean Sea. It was used from about 200 B.C. to about A.D. 1300, when sea travel offered new routes. It was sometimes called the world’s longest highway. However, the Silk Road was made up of many routes, not one smooth path. They passed through what are now 18 countries. The routes crossed mountains and deserts and had many dangers of hot sun, deep snow and even battles. Only experienced traders could return safe.
The Silk Road got its name from its most prized product. Silk could be used like money to pay taxes or buy goods. But the traders carried more than just silk. Gold, silver, and glass from Europe were much found in the Middle East and Asia. Horses traded from other areas changed farming practices in China. Indian merchants traded salt and other valuable goods. Chinese merchants traded paper, which produced an immediate effect on the West. Apples traveled from

central Asia to Rome. The Chinese had learned to graft (to join a part of a plant or tree onto another plant or tree) different trees together to make new kinds of fruit. They passed this science on to others, including the Romans. The Romans used grafting to grow the apple. Trading along the Silk Road led to worldwide business 2,000 years before the World Wide Web.
The people along the Silk Road did not share just goods. They also shared their beliefs. The Silk Road provided pathways for learning, diplomacy, and religion. Questions 26 to 28 are based on the passage you have just heard.
26. What was needed for traders along the Silk Road to do?
However, the Silk Road was made up of many routes, not one smooth path,以及后面提到的many dangers,由此可知,在丝绸之路上有很多困难,[D]中的difficulties是对其中dangers的同义转述,故为答案。
27. Why did the Silk Road become less important?
It was used from about 200 B.C. to about A.D. 1300, when sea travel offered new routes,即由于海路的发现使得丝绸之路变得没那么重要了,[C]是对短文中when sea travel offered new routes的同义转述,故为答案。
28. Why could new technologies travel along the Silk Road?
【解析】选[A]。 They passed this science on to others,也就是说人们互相学习新技术,[A]中的learned from one another对应短文中的passed this science on to others,故为答案。
【点睛】听清问题中的new technologies travel along the Silk Road是解答本题的关键。

Passage Two

The evidence for harmony may not be obvious in some families. But it seems that four out of five young people now get on with their parents, which is the opposite of the popularly-held image of unhappy teenagers locked in their rooms after endless family quarrels.
An important new study into teenage attitudes surprisingly shows that their family life is more harmonious than it has ever been in the past. “We were surprised by just how positive today’s young people seem to be about their families,” said one member of the research team. “They’re expected to be rebellious and selfish but actually they have other things on their minds; they want a car and material goods, and they worry about whether school is serving them well. There’s more negotiation and discussion between parents and children, and children expect to take part in the family decision-making process. They don’t want to rock the boat.

So it seems that this generation of parents is much more likely than parents of 30 years ago to treat their children as friends. “My parents are happy to discuss things with me and willing to listen to me,” says 17-year-old Daniel Lazall. “I always tell them when I’m going out clubbing. As long as they know what I’m doing, they’re fine with it.” Susan Crome, who is now 21, agrees. “Looking back on the last 10 years, there was a lot of what you could call negotiation. For example, as long as I’d done all my homework, I could go out on a Saturday night. But I think my grandparents were a lot stricter with my parents than that.” Questions 29 to 32 are based on the passage you have just heard.
29. What is the popular image of teenagers today?
【解析】选[B]。短文开头提到,the popularly-held image of unhappy teenagers locked in their rooms after endless family quarrels,即通常人们认为,青少年不愿意和父母们在一起,故答案为[B]。
【点睛】问题中的popular image对应短文中的the popularly-held image;locked in their rooms after endless family quarrels作后置定语修饰teenagers。
30. What do we know about teenagers according to the study?
They don’t want to和family可知,本题考查They不愿意在家里的某种表现。 They don’t want to rock the boat,即他们并不想惹麻烦,故答案为[D]。
31. What do we know about today’s parents compared with parents of 30 years ago?
【解析】选[A]。
【点睛】问题中的today’s parents 对应短文中的this generation of parents。
32. What is the passage mainly about?
短文一开头就提到,The evidence for harmony(和谐的迹象)may not be obvious in some families, 接下来的几段围绕“家庭和谐”展开叙述,故答案为[C]。

Passage Three

I first went to Harrow in the summer term. The school had the biggest swimming pool I had ever seen. It was a good joke to come up behind a naked boy, and push him into the pool. I made quite a habit of this with boys of my own size or less.
One day I saw a boy wrapped in a towel on the side of the pool. He was no bigger than I was, so I thought him a fair game. Coming secretly behind, I pushed him in, holding on to his towel so that it would not get wet. I was surprised to see an angry face co

me out from the water, and a being of great strength making its way by face strokes to the shore. I fled, but in vain. He overtook me, seized me violently, and threw me into the deepest part of the pool. I soon climbed out on the other side, and found myself surrounded by a crowd of younger boys. “Do you know what you have done?” they said. “It’s Amery; he is in Grade Six. He is champion at gym; he has got his football honor.”
I was frightened and felt ashamed. How could I tell his position when he was wrapped in a bath towel and so small. He didn’t seem pleased at all, so I added in a most brilliant word, “My father, who is a great man, is also small.” At this he laughed, and after some general words about my rude behavior and how I had better be careful in the future, signified the incident was closed. Questions 33 to 35 are based on the passage you have just heard.
33. Why did the speaker think Amery “a fair game”?
34. Why did the speaker feel ashamed?
35. Which is true according to the passage?
(My father, who is a great man, is also small.)
