写作测验第二部份：短文写作
根据IELTS应试手册，要完成Academic这类组的第二部分写作测验，考生必须能够：
1. 提出问题的解决方法。
2. 提出和辩护意见。
3. 比较一些意见、看法、推论。
4. 评断和挑战一些想法、证据或争论。
第一分析与瞭解问题：在开始写作之前，真正地瞭解题目所问的问题很重要。一般来说，会有两类的申论题。
第一类是属于争议讨论型，要求考生对一个争议的议题，陈述正反两面的意见，然后再提出自己的看法。意思就是，不一定要同意这个问题的陈述，但要做的就是先分析正反两面的意见，即 pros (支持这个陈述的赞成看法)和cons (抨击这个陈述的反对的看法)。最后结论可以提出自己的看法。
第二类是属于问题解决型，要求找出问题所在并且提出解决方法。这类问题会要求你找出某个现象为什么会发生，以及这个现象可能会产生的利害后果。同时，也要求考生提出可以解决这个问题的方法。
第二拟定一个计画：下笔之前，应该花至少五分鐘的时间来作计画，构思、组织想法。先列主标题，再把一些重点想法，列在标题底下。
第叁组织文章架构：一篇有组织的文章有叁部分：引言( introduction)、本文(the main body of text)与结论(conclusion)。
引言(introduction) 引言的目的有：
(1)对题目作一概述并说明本文中心思想。
(2) 如果考生被要求给予意见建议，引言可以说明作者立场。
(3) 引言介绍作者在主文中将要陈述的东西。
本文(the main body of text) 本文通常是将第一段引言提出的想法作进一步的详细说明。本文要分段写，每一段一开始要有一两个主题句，而主题句就是要说明这段陈述的看法，接下来的句子便是支持和详细解释。
结论：总结考生在本文中所陈述的看法，最后下个完美的句点或表示最后个人的意见。
