Learning shouldn’t stop once you graduate from school Graduating from college doesn’t mean you can no longer be a student. Life offers more lessons than school ever could. As an individual (个体) , you must constantly look for more ways to grow. To be stagnant (停滞的) should never be an option for someone who has so much potential (潜能) . There are always new things to learn and adventures left to be discovered.

Explore the world. Don’t limit yourself to your hometown or to the city you got your first job. Go beyond the place you consider home because home can be many places. It doesn’t have to be just one town or one apartment complex. Backpacking (徒步旅行) may not be for everyone, but it’s not the only way you can see the world. Travelling doesn’t just have to be going overseas but also dropping by many states Culture exists not just in a country but even in small communities.

Achieve new life skills. Maybe it’s time that you finally learn how to fix a broken faucet (插口) or even fix the faulty light in your bathroom. You can finally cross out your bucket list items that have been there forever. Learn how to drive a car or ride a bike. There are definitely (当然) things you don’t know how to do, and you have a lifetime ahead of you to learn. It’s never too late to start learning something new.

Take risks. The first step to learning is accepting that you’re easy to make mistakes. Once you’ve accepted that, you’ll have an easier time taking in things and risking everything in favour (有利于) of your passion. Keeping your 9-to-5 job may keep you secure, but if you’re bored and no longer happy, is it really happy? Submitting (提交) an article to your favourite publication in the world may mean rejection, but it can also mean getting published! Stop hesitating because that’s no way to live.

There are many things to learn, especially now that in fact we’re connected to everyone in the world.

As a student of life, it’s really up to you to use all your resources and make it into something enriching.

My elder brother Steve gave me important lessons in values that helped me grow into an adult after my father died when I was six years old.

Steve taught me to face the results of my behavior. Once when I returned in tears from a Saturday baseball game, it was Steve who took some time to ask me what had happened. When I told him that my baseball broke Mrs Holt’s baseball window, Steve encouraged me to tell her the truth. After all, I played baseball in a wrong place. As I explained to Mrs Holt, my voice shook. Of course, I had to pay for the broken window from my pocket money.

I also learned from Steve that personal property (财产) is a sacred (神圣的) thing. After I found a shiny pen in my fifth-grade classroom, 1 wanted to keep it. Then Steve explained that it might be important to the owner although it had little value. He also reminded me of how sad I was when I lost the small wooden dog my father made. At last, I returned the pen to my teacher Mrs Davids. I still remembered the smell of her perfume (香水) when she gave me a hug.

Of all the lessons Steve gave me, his respect for life is the most vivid on my mind. When I was twelve, I killed an old brown bird in the garden with a gun With excitement, I asked Steve to come from the house to take a look. I shall never forget the way he stood for a long moment and stared at the bird on the ground. Then in a dead, quiet voice, he asked, "Did it hurt you first, Mark?" I didn’t know what to answer. He continued with his eyes firm, "Even if it hurts you first, you should think a long time and then decide whether you will kill it or not. "I really felt terrible then, but that moment I will never forget.

B. Responsibility for one’s behavior.

C. The value of honesty.

D. Care for the property of others.

A. Mark was a boy when he wrote this passage.

Different cultures make different families. For example, there are differences in the way Chinese and Americans raise children.

First, Chinese and American families have different attitudes towards independence (独立) . Each Chinese child has been considered to be the apple of parents’eyes. It is not surprising to see Chinese parents always help their children in getting dressed, having meals, bathing and doing other things. American parents, on the other hand, teach their children how to deal with things on their own from childhood.

Second, most Chinese parents often make their children have extra classes, such as piano, drawing or singing lessons. Parents want their children to develop in an all-round way and be better students than other children. The problem is that their children may not be interested in these cases. American parents try to respect their children’s interests and usually don’t make them do what they don’t like.

Third, there is a difference in the way parents in China and America treat mistakes that children make. Many Chinese people believe in the saying, "Spare the rod, spoil the child (不打不成器) . " When Chinese parents see their children make mistakes, they often get very angry, and some even hit them instead of making them realize their mistakes. This affects the children’s growth and the forming of their character, and also makes the generation gap (代沟) wide. American parents think it is common for people to make mistakes because mistakes are part of life. They often say, "It’s OK to make mistakes. Making mistakes helps you learn. "They help their children deal with mistakes by giving them ideas about how to turn mistakes into learning chances.

Families in China and America are quite different, and one way may seem better than the other, but it is better to think

about whether the parents fit the family or not instead of talking about which one is wrong or right.

Who should we thank?

Nowadays, many students are lack of thankful heart. I think as students, we should thank all those who love or help us.

We are thankful to our parents because they give us the life, make us feel the merriment of the human life, feel the genuine feeling of the human life, feel the comity of the human life, feel the happiness of the human life, and also feel the hardships, pain and sufferings of the human life!

We are thankful to our teachers because they work with diligence and without fatigue of everyday teaching, give us the ability to learn knowledge, and put on the wing which flies towards the ideal for us. We are thankful to our friends because they grow up with us and let us no longer stand alone in the journey of life.

We are thankful to our country because it provides us with financial aid, which makes the poor children finish their school. Whenever it is, we should keep a thankful heart towards everything existing.

Only thus can we become useful people.
