备战中考英语阅读理解热点话题+体裁分类训练(中考真题+各地模拟题)专题5G技术Passage 1(2021·四川达州·中考真题)In 1987 a small company named Huawei was started in Shenzhen. After more than 30 years of development, the company has now beaten Apple and become the world’s second largest make r of smartphones. It has also become the world’s supplier (供应者) of 5G. In China and even in the world, Huawei is a wonder. Although it started producing mobile phones not many years ago, it has become one of the most famous phone companies. But recently, Huawei faces some difficulties. The US government made a law to stop its sales in America. American officials said Huawei gave information that it collected to the Chinese government. At the same time, the US government planned to stop selling parts and se rvices to Huawei. They believed that Huawei’s business would be hurt this way.“We have never received such a request from the Chinese government and we have never tried to get into other systems to collect information,” Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s president s aid. “The law would have little effect on our company. Huawei has enough ability to deal with the problems,” Ren added. In an interview several years ago, Ren Zhengfei said, “I started Huawei with only £4000 at the beginning, but now it has become a 100 billion company. The experience was not as romantic as you imagine.”Facing the law of the US, Huawei is growing. Huawei’s smartphone sales around the world rose 50 percent compared with a year earlier in the first three months of 2019. At the same time, sales from both Samsung and Apple fell. It is a new network after 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G. It can connect everyone and everything together. 5G networks will cover many cities in China soon. 5G means super-fast data speed. One can download a two-hour movie for fewer than 10 seconds, and it is making our lives more and more convenient.5G will make self-driving cars possible. For safety, self-driving cars need super-fast data transmission (传输)to communicate with their nearby environment. 5G is just what makes self-driving cars achieve this. Even airplanes will become “smart” in the near future. Passengers will be able to use 5G networks in the air to connect to the Internet and can order for food and drinks.5G will be a big help for students who take online classes. Many people live in poor areas in the world where there are no schools. But with 5G, this will change. Students all over the world will be able to see places like the Great Wall without leaving their rooms. It will be also easier for doctors to treat patients remotely by 5G. It means caring for patients from far away. The facts listed above are only a part of what 5G will make possible and popular. However, not too long from now, 5G will make them much more common both at work and in our homes. You might see people wearing AR glasses or VR headsets* while waiting for the bus or sitting in the office. One of the most expected changes will be VR and AR’s influence on the gaming industry. Nowadays, most VR games are limited when compared to the latest console games*. With the power of 5G, VR gamers will be able to see, hear, and feel virtual environments without waiting. What’s more, if you want to play a game using a VR headset, you need a machine such as a PC or a gaming console that has a large amount of storage. This means you usually have to stay in one place while playing VR games. The arrival of 5G means we will be able to move advantages and disadvantages away from the PC and into the cloud so that we only need a headset. You will be able to play VR games anywhere in real time with a headset.Such headsets and other 5G wearables will also bring great changes to the workplace. In 5G smart factories, for example, all of the equipment is connected to a single network. Workers can use 5G headsets when solving problems. Using AR headsets, they can be informed about a problem and shown how to fix it through a heads-up display.AR adds digital elements* to real-world environments through a smartphone or a pair of smart glasses. One example is Nintendo’s AR Pokemon Go game, which uses a phone’s GPS to show Poké mon as if they are actually in the real world. VR is total immersion* in a 3D computer-generated environment. Users can interact with the environment using VR headsets and gloves. VR is typically used for computer games or in exhibitions.20.In Paragraph 1, we know that ________.A.It is common to see people wearing AR glasses nowB.5G will make AR and VR technology more popular试卷第6页,共11页C.VR and AR technologies solved lots of problems in officesD.people will use AR and VR for games only in bus stations21.Why will VR change the gaming industry with the power of 5G? ________. A.Because 5G can improve the VR experienceB.Because 5G will make VR games more expensiveC.Because most console gamers will become VR gamersD.Because console gamers like to use VR technology more22.What do we know about VR games at present? ________.A.Just a headset is enough for VR playersB.Everyone can afford the price of VR games nowC.The players must stay in one place while playingD.Workers can solve problems while playing VR games23.The purpose of this passage is to tell people ________.A.the history of AR and VR B.the benefits that 5G will bring C.how to play AR and VR games D.what the latest console games are Passage 6(2021·江苏盐城·二模)If you look at the top of your phone, you’ll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The “G” stands for the “generation” of your mobile network. But these symbols will become things of the past after 5G fully arrives. On March 30th, 2019, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X smartphone, CGTN reported. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks. Now, 4G takes about 100 to 200 milliseconds to send and receive data. But 5G will get it down to 1 millisecond or less. This big change will not only make our mobile Internet faster. It can be used in many other ways as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today’s self-driving test cars have one problem—lag. When the car “sees” an obstacle (障碍物), it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions. However, it takes time to send and receive this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don’t receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer, according to CNN.5G could also be used to power the Internet of Things (IOT). This refers to a large online试卷第7页,共11页network that connects all things and people. Fast Internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. For example, with IOT under 5G, your fridge could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside. All in all, 5G will shape every type of technology that it touches. And you won’t have to wait too long for that to happen.24.The writer uses self-driving cars as an example to ________.A.explain how self-driving cars workB.show us the advantages of self-driving carsC.warn about the possible dangers of self-driving carsD.explain how 5G ’s fast speed can be helpful25.The underlined word “lag” probably means “________” in Chinese.A.延迟B.迷路C.暂停D .耗电26.The fridge is mentioned to ________.A.describe the importance of IOTB.encourage people to try the new productC.introduce how to use the Internet of ThingsD.show 5G would make IOT more powerful27.Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?A.Can 5G go any further? B.5G has changed our lifeC.5G is on the way D.China is leading the world in 5G Passage 7(2021·广东·秀全中学一模)Some people like the freedom of driving their own cars. But others find driving to be inconvenient or even dangerous. Fortunately, the driverless cars we've seen in movies and TV shows are on the way here. The first driverless car to hit the screen was Herbie, a cute talking car from the 1968 comedy The Love Bug. Herbie could drive by himself and even talk to his human friends He didn't have any advanced technology—just magic.KITT was another driverless car that appeared on the 1980s TV show Knight Rider. KITT used advanced Al to drive itself and help its rider Michael Knight catch criminals.试卷第8页,共11页While the driverless cars of today can't talk to us, they do have many similarities to the ones we've seen onscreen. Nearly every major car company is working on their own autonomous, vehicle(A V). Tesla, for example. has developed a driver-assistance system for its cars called Tesla Autopilot.Tesla Autopilot can complete many of the tasks hat human drivers usually do. It can make sure that your car is centered in the correct lane, as well as park itself and stop if it thinks that a crash might happen. However, it is not fully self-driving.Google's sister company Waymo seems to be leading the way in the A V area. Itsself-driving cars are already being used for taxi services in the US city of Phoenix. It is the only self-driving car service that operates without human backup drivers. It uses common cameras as well as laser radar to determine distance, which allows the cars to get around without risk of crashing.Although companies are making great progress in developing A V. there is still a lot of work to be done. Year after year, companies promise that fully self-driving cars will become widely available. But nearly all of these promises have fallen through. One of the problems is that designing a self-driving car that is safe and easy to use is much harder than people realize. Self-driving cars have to analyze millions of data-points in order to prevent accidents and choose the correct route. Humans are used to doing this—but designing an Al that can work like human mind to make a decision quickly is very difficult. However, as new technologies like 5G develop, fully self-driving cars will come closer to reality.28.What were Herbie and KITT?A.They were interesting TV shows. B.They were driverless cars onscreen. C.They were cars using advanced AI D.They were owners of driverless cars 29.Tesla Autopilot can________.A.talk to his human friends clearly B.stop to avoid a crash happeningC.do all the tasks as human drivers D.fly for a short while if necessary 30.What does "It" in Paragraph 6 refer to?A.The company of Google. B.The US city of Phoenix.C.The self-driving car service D.A car with backup drivers.31.How might the future of the fully self-driving cars be according to the passage?A.It will be too hard to design a self-driving car that is safe and easy to use试卷第9页,共11页B.Designing an Al that can make a decision like human mind is impossible.C.Fully self-driving cars that are widely used must come to reality years later.D.New technologies will speed up the development of fully self-driving cars.Passage 8(2021·陕西宝鸡·一模)If you look at the top of your phone, you’ll usually see a little symbol that say s 3G or 4G. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive.Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks. About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data faster than ever before. But 5G won’t just bring faster mobile Internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today’s self-driving test cars have one problem-when they found something in front, that is too late to stop at once. When the car “sees” something in front, it sends this informatio n to a data center and receives instructions. However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag(滞后), the cars might crash because they don’t receive instruction in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowed, making the cars safer.5G could also be used to power the Internet of Things(IOT), that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. She was a bookworm as a primary school student and often spent what she calls “a colorful day” at the school library, reading one or two books a day, absorbed in her own world.Jiang began reading Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) author Cao Xueqin’s Dream of the Red Chamber in the second grade, when she did not even fully understand all the characters. She also loved reading history, and the first historical books she read were the Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms, stories that are more than 2,280 years old.In 1996, she wrote her first martial arts novel Modao Fengyun to entertain herself. In 1997, she bought a computer and typed in the manuscript (手稿), but with nowhere to publish, only family and friends read the book.Jiang focused on women, who were usually overshadowed and presented as simplified characters in Chinese literature, particularly important historical women. She realized that Chinese historical novels tended to focus on emperors, kings, and generals, and women often featured as vehicles, such as virtuous wives and good mothers.Among the 2,000 ratings on Douban, a major review aggregator (聚合器) in China, nearly 70 percent of readers gave Jiang’s most famous novel four stars or more out of five. One reader, nicknamed Yinrendeponiang, who gave thenovel four stars, commented that, “The book describes the life o f China’s first empress dowager (女皇), through a mix of fiction and history. It details her journey from birth to rule, and how the changes in her life influenced her, shaping her into a kind yet tricky individual. She resists others’ control over her...Thi s book not only informs us about her path to growth, but also shows how a woman can achieve success through her own efforts.”24. In the spring, they prepare to move thousands of miles to the Mountain West of Central America, flying through grasslands, deserts, and occasionally, suburban yards. To fuel them on their lengthy journey, western tanagers fill up on insects and berries. But as global climate change causes spring to start earlier, birds such as western tanagers are ar riving at their destination after what’s known as “green-up”, when flowers begin blooming and insects emerge. According to a study published in early March in the journal PNAS, this kind of timing mismatch between migrants (迁移动物) and their food sources, which is happening across North America, could have serious consequences for migratory birds’ survival. “In discussing climate change, we often focus on warming,” says Scott Loss, a co-author of the study. “But the length and timing of seasons—like when winter ends and spring begins—are some of the most dramatic effects of climate change.”Loss and his colleagues used satellite imagery from 2002 to 2021 to calculate the average start of spring green-up along the typical migration routes of 150 North American bird species, then compared that timing with the current green-up. They found that spring is indeed beginning earlier along birds’ migration routes. “By contrary, previous studies have mainly focused on songbirds in Eastern North America,” says Morgan Tingley, an ornithologist at UCLA, “but this new investigation shows that bird species in the West and at different levels of the food web might be just as vulnerable (脆弱的).”“Part of it is knowing which species are vulnerable to various threats,” Loss says. “This adds to the knowledge about vulnerability of a wide range of bird species.” And he hopes that the information will serve to highlight the urgent need to lower greenhouse-gas emissions as fast as possible. “It’s really important, if we can’t address cl imate change immediately, to try to stop habitat loss as much as we can.”28. What may pose a direct threat to western tanagers’ survival?A. Global warming.B. The duration of changing seasons.C. Loss of habitats due to human activities.D. Decreased access to foods during migration.29. What is unique about the new study on birds like western tanagers?A. It covers a wider geographic range.B. It reveals the decline in bird populations.C. It centers on the adaptation of bird species.D. It ensures the existence of a timing mismatch.30. What does Loss suggest we do to safeguard migratory birds?A. Lessen the effects of climate change.B. Preserve ecosystems for bird species.C. Address emissions and habitat loss.D. Expand researches on threats to birds.31. Where is the text most likely from?A. A scientific journal.B. A bird-watching guidebook.C. A website about climate change.D. A magazine about wildlife conservation.DComputer scientist Pascale Fung can imagine a bright future in which AI helpers like ChatGPT bridge language barriers. In that world, Indonesian store owners fluent only in local dialects might reach new shoppers by listing their products online in English.“It can open opportunities,” Fung says—then pauses. She’s spotted the bias (偏好) in her vision of a more interconnected future: The Al-aided shopping would be one-sided, because few Americans would bother to use AI translation to help research products advertised in Indonesian. Fung, director of the Center for AI Research at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, who herself speaks seven languages, sees this bias in her own field. Fung would like to see Al change that, not further strengthen the primary position of English.Fung is part of a global community of AI researchers testing the language skills of ChatGPT and sounding the alarm about evidence that they are significantly less capable in languages other than English. “One of my biggest concerns is that we’re going to exacerbate the bias for En glish and English speakers,”says Thien Huu Nguyen, a University of Oregon computer scientist. “People are going to follow the norm (标准) and not think about their own identities or culture. It kills innovation.”The AI systems are good at translating other languages into English, but they struggle with rewriting English into other languages. Nguyen’s study reports that tests on ChatGPT in March showed it performed substantially (基本上) worse at answering factual questions or summarizing complex text in non-English languages and was more likely to fabricate (捏造) information. “This is an English sentence, so there is no way to translate it to Vietnamese,” the robot responded inaccurately to one question. At a US conference, Senator Alex Padilla of California ask ed Sam Altman, CEO of ChatGPT’s creator, OpenA I, which is based in the state, what his company is doing to close the language gap. About 44 percent of Californians speak language other than English. Padilla, who also speaks Spanish, is questioning about the systems delivering fair linguistic (语言的) outcomes without big shifts in strategies by their developers.32. What’s Fung’s attitude to the non-English language skills of ChatGPT?A. Optimistic.B. Dismissive.C. Doubtful.D. Unclear.33. What does the underlined word “exacerbate” mean in Paragraph 3?A. Restrict.B. Worsen.C. Encourage.D. Disturb.34. What is in line with Nguyen’s study regarding ChatGPT?A. It performs better in translating into English.B. It excels in non-English language translation.C. It tends to invent information in translations.D. It struggles with turning English to other languages.35. What’s the most suitable title for the text?A. ChatGPT: Exposing linguistic biasB. ChatGPT: Bridging Language BarriersC. AWhile Jennifer was at home taking an online exam for her business law class, a monitor(监控器)a few hundred miles away was watching her every move.Using a web camera equipped in Jennifer'sLos Angelesapartment, the monitor inPhoenixtracked how frequently her eyes moved from the computer screen and listened for the secret sounds of a possible helper in the room. Her Internet access was locked remotely to prevent Internet searches, and her typing style was analyzed to make sure she was who she said she was: Did she enter her student number at the same speed as she had in the past?Or was she slowing down?In the battle against cheating, this is thecutting edgeand a key to encourage honesty in the booming field of online education. This technology gives trust to the entire system, to the institution and to online education in general. Only with solid measures against cheating, experts say, can Internet universities show that their exams and diplomas are valid — that students haven't searched the Internet to get the right answers.Although online classes have existed for more than a decade, the concern over cheating has become sharper in the last year with the growth of "open online courses". Private colleges, public universities and corporations are jumping into the online education field, spending millions of dollars to attract potential students, while also taking steps to help guarantee honesty at a distance.Aside from the web cameras, a number of other high-tech methods are becoming increasingly popular. Among them are programs that check students’ identities using personal information, such as the telephone numbers they once used.Other programs can produce unique exams by drawing on a large list of questions and can recognize possible cheaters by analyzing whether difficult test questions are answered at the same speed as easy ones. As in many university classes, term papers are scanned against some large Internet data banks for cheating.1. Why was Jennifer watched in an online exam?A. To correct her typing mistakes.B. To find her secrets in the room.C. To keep her from dishonest deeds.D. To prevent her from slowing down.2. More and more people go online as wireless networks have brought the Internet closer and closer: it’s on our mobile phones, in our cars and TV sets, in hospital surgery rooms and in fishing boats that battle the waves of the Atlantic. And this revolution has brought along with it a new way of shopping. Both big and small, e-business websites have flooded the Internet by the hundreds of thousands. Anything you can buy from a brick and mortar store (实体店) you can also buy online: from food and clothes to toys, no matter what you’re looking for, you’re bound to find the right online store with just a few clicks of the mouse. You can use the Internet to find new suppliers, post buying requests or search for products and services. This revolution has affected brick and mortar business owners greatly. And what was their reaction? They’ve opened online stores to go hand in hand with their conventional business. But do the big players have reasons to be afraid? Are we going to start seeing ghostly, deserted Walmarts (沃尔玛) across the country? Probably not in the near future but the day will come when most people will just stop shopping offline anymore. A trip to Walmart wastes time, burns gas.The recent advancements in mobile technology and the introduction of mobile phones with enhanced (提高的) web capabilities have even made some people order their groceries when they get out from work and have them delivered at their doorstep by the time they get home. And as “Time is money”, this practice is lifesaving for people whowork two jobs.Technology will continue to advance and e-business will follow closely in its footsteps. Is Online Shopping the Future of E-business?BFor our official holidays, like the National Holiday, many people'd like to go on a visit to some places of interest. Yesterday our class had a heated discussion about whether we should travel during holidays. One man's meat is another man's poison. Some students are for it. They think visitors can enjoy a good variety of scenery. Facing glorious(壮丽的) touristattractions, travelers may well broaden their eyes. At the same time, they can keep fit by walking on foot, and taste different delicious food that they can't get in their own hometowns. What's more, travelling can make a contribution to our economy development, mainly to the local economy development. Most travelers need to buy tickets to go to their destinations, thus traffic department will earn money. Travelers also need to sleep and eat, thus local hotels and restaurants also share benefits. Paying admission(门票费) benefits local governments. As for native farmers, they can benefit from selling local specialities to many travelers. In this case, money circulation(货币流通) is speeded up.On the other hand, other students are against it. They believe it's a waste of money. Some famous places of interest are too crowded, while those smaller ones are not worth visiting. Travelling may cause traffic jams here and there. What's worse, due to travelling here and there, there exist some accidents on the road. Besides, it's known that travelling can also pollute the local environment. In order to reduce air and waste pollution, people should have a rest to the full, reading books or watching TV at home. And the government should take somemeasures to solve the existing problems. More policemen should be on duty to deal with accidents in time. Let's take the example of the National Holiday, if some provinces of our country spend this holiday mainly in late September, with the National Day coming to an end, rather than in earlyOctober, most famous places of interest will not become crowded. The 15-year-old girl has been coming up with innovative solutions to worldwide problems since she was ten. It is, therefore, not surprising that the teenager has won the honor of “America's Top Young Scientist”.In the third grade, Rao was inspired to build a device after witnessing the shocking story unfold in Flint, Michigan, where cost-cutting measures led to the use of a polluted river as the city's primary water supply and incredibly high levels of lead made their way into people's drinking water. After two months' research, Rao designed a small and portable device that used sensors to instantly detect lead in water. Called Tethys, after the Greek Goddess(女神) of freshwater, it attaches to a cellphone and informs the residents via an app if their drinking water contains lead. The design earned her the 3M Young Scientist Challenge in 2017. She is currently working with scientists and medical professionals to test Tethys' potential and hopes the device will be ready for commercial use by 2022.Later, Rao took on another social issue-drug addiction. Her app, called Epione, which won the Health Pillar Prize at the TCS Ignite Innovation Student Challenge in May 2019, is designed to catch drug addiction in young adults before it's too late.More recently, the teenager has developed an app named Kindly, which usesartificial intelligence technology to detect possible signs of cyberbullying(网上欺凌). When users type in a word or phrase, Kindly is able to pick it up if it's bullying, and then it gives the option to edit it or send it the way it is. It gives them the chance to rethink what they are saying so that they know what to do next time. All kinds of awesome, Gitanjali Rao has been selected from 5,000 equally impressive nominees(被提名人) for TIME Magazine's first-ever “Kid of the Year”.8.
