Summer Olympics
Korea hosted the 24th Summer Olympic Games from September 17 to
October 2, 1998 under the theme “Peace, Harmony, Progress”. The games, were the first boycott-free in 12 years and more than 13,000 athletes and
official from 160 countries gathered to promote the lofty ideals of harmony and peace.
2002 Korea/Japan World Cup
Korea was greatly honored to co-host the first World Cup in the new Millennium. The World Cup was unique in that it was held in 10 cities in each of the two host countries. The opening ceremony was held in Seoul, Korea and the final in Yokohama, Japan. The event drew over 1.6 million visitors and more than 10,000 members of the media to Korea. These numbers were record-breaking, and as a consequence it is expected that the lasting image of Korea presented to the world as a host country will be memorable.
The little known Korea’s national football team “Red Devils” made an incredible record on soccer fans worldwide by finishing at a remarkable 4th position.
