阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

A

I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my profession stand in the way of being

a good parent.

I no longer consider myself the center of the universe. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends, and they to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today.

So here’s what I wanted to tell you today: Get a life. A real life, not a desire of the next promotion, the bigger paycheck, the larger house .

Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure, it is work. Pick up the phone. Send an e-mail. Write a letter. And realize that life is the best thing and that you have no business taking it for granted.

It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours, and our minutes. It is so easy to exist instead of to live.I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life in ways that, if I had my choice, it would never have been changed at all. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all:

I learned to love the journey, not the destination. I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally .And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned.

By telling them this: Read in the backyard with the sun on your face. Learn to be happy. And think of life as a deadly illness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion as it ought to be lived. 56.The best title of this passage probably is .

COLUMBUS, Ohio —The heart operation taking place in the pale-green operating room at the Ohio State University Medical Center was unusual. The patient, a 62-year-old man, was made to sleep, tied with blue drapes(消毒帷帘)and lying face up on a narrow table. But no one was touching him.

Instead, the operation was being performed by a robot, whose three metal arms went through pencil-sized holes in the man’s chest. At the ends of the robot’s arms were tiny metal finge rs, with turning wrists, which held a tiny instrument, a light and a camera. The robot’s arms and fingers were controlled by Dr. Randall K. Wolf, sitting at a computer in a corner of the operating room about 20 feet away.

This sort of operation, heart surgeons say, is the start of what may be the biggest change in their profession since heart bypass surgery(心脏搭桥手术)began nearly 30 years ago. “The reason we make cuts is that we have big hands,” said Dr. Wolf , the director of the surgery at Ohio State. The robot’s dainty fingers, no longer than a nail on the small finger, at the end of the long sticks could work better.

Eventually, surgeons believe, most heart surgery will be done by robots whose arms are put in through pencil-sized holes punched in patients’ chests. Instead of directly staring into a patient’s body, surgeons will view magnified images of the operation on computer screens. In theory, the doctor would not have to be in the same room, or even the same country, as the patient.

65.In this passage, the underlined word “dainty” means ______.

A. small

B. weak

C. fat

D. quick 66.According to the passage, the reason that most operations require large cuts is that ______.

A. patients have large organs

B. surgeons have large hands

C. large cuts take less time

D. large cuts cost less money

67.The main idea of this passage is that heart surgery by robots ______.

A. is quicker than surgery done by doctors

B. was developed at Ohio State University

C. is a new and risky procedure

D. may replace surgery done by doctors 68.Based on the information in this passage, all of the following conclusions are true EXCEPT______.

A. All doctors at Ohio Sate develop new surgical techniques

B. Robot surgery is being developed at Ohio State

C. Robot surgery will be used on many patients in the near future

D. Many hospitals will eventually offer robot surgery to patients

Scientists have long doubted that one of most powerful objects in space is a black hole. Black holes create huge amounts of gravity. The gravity produced by a black hole is so strong it can even capture(捕获)light. Black holes pull everything into them. Recently NASA experts released information and a photograph that shows a black hole slowly destroying a star. The power gravity of the black hole is tearing the star apart. Observations from two X-ray telescopes show evidence of this.

The telescopes are NASA Chandra and the European Space Agency’s XMM-Newton X-ray. They were combined with earlier images from the German Roentgen Satellite. Scientists have been observing the black hole more than ten years.

Stefanie Komossa works at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrail (宇宙的) Physics in German. She is the leader of an international team of researchers. Miss Komossa says stars can bend or be stretched a small amount. However, evidence shows this star has been stretched so far it is now breaking apart. She says her star moved too close to the black hole. Scientists say the black hole they are observing has a mass of about 100-million times that of the Sun. They believed the star that was destroyed was about the same size as the Sun. The black hole and the star are in a galaxy (银河系) about 700-million light years away from the Earth.

69.It can be learned from the first paragraph that the scientists seem to ______ in space.

A. describe one of the most powerful objects

B. worry about the huge amounts of gravity

C. open out the result of a new discovery

D. remind people of the secret of nature 70.Which of the following is NOT right?

A. It was long time ago that the black holes began to be observed.

B. A star was pulled into the black hole because of the powerful gravity.

C. Only X-ray telescopes are used to observe the black hole in space.

D. Scientists didn't believe that the black holes exist in space.

71.The gravity produced by a black hole is so strong that ______.

A. maybe all the objects in space will be destroyed

B. it can even capture light

C. none of objects in space can avoid being stretched

D. the galaxy will become a target attacked in space

Miniskirt ban arouses disputes

Many students disagree with the new regulations implemented (付诸, 实施) at Shanghai Normal University, which stops female teachers from wearing miniskirts and other " unsuitable" clothes to work, the New Times reported on April the 30th, 2006. Students preferred their teachers in a more fashionable style.

As a part of the campaign that launched last week in the university, the regulation also banned halter tops (三角背心), sandals (凉鞋, 拖鞋) and all sleeveless shirts.

"When a female teacher wears these types of clothing, she may unconsciously expose her waist or underwear," Qian Jianping, a director from the Women's Commission in the university said to the newspaper. "I'm not willing to chance a teacher's clothes arousing unnecessary fantasies among the students. Teachers should dress decently (体面, 相称) to win the respect of the students."

Most teachers responded quickly to the regulation."Though I used to be interested in fashionable halter tops and was eager to wear them, I tend to ignore them now because I am a teacher," said Wu Wenyan, a young lecturer from the university. "We received etiquette (礼仪) training before we were certified as university teachers."

However, some of the university's students expressed their discontent. "We dislike teachers dressing old-fashioned, as well as those wearing heavy make-up," said a student enrolled in media and communication studies. "Teachers who dress fashionably naturally appear more accessible and amiable to us students. We lose interest in old-fashioned teachers at first sight.

"Everyone should be free to express his or her own identity in the university, teachers are no

exception," the student said. "My fellow classmates don't mind teachers dressing in halter tops or miniskirts. We like teachers with their own style."

A teacher Wu said: "Halter tops and miniskirts may reflect the vitality of young female teachers. But, knowledge, etiquette and personality are more important factors."

The campaign will extend the ban to students as well. It will also prohibit students napping and the use of mobile phones in classrooms, the report said.

72.Why should the female teachers dress decently in class?

A. Because many students disagree with their out of fashion clothes.

B. Because they want to win the respect of the students.

C.Because the new regulations prohibit them from wearing miniskirts.

D.Because they hope to draw the students’ attention to their lectures in class.

73.What does the sentence “ Most teachers responded quickly to the regulation” mean?

A. Most of the teachers are not in favor of the new regulations.

B.Most of the teachers begin to be interested in fashionable clothes.

C. Most of the teachers will no longer wear unsuitable clothes to work.

D. Most of the teachers make quick response to the dispute on what to wear.

74.What is the more important factor in the teaching of the students according to the passage?

A. Personality

B. Wearing

C. Fashion

D. Vitality

75.What will be the probable attitude of the students towards the ban of napping at noon?

A. All the students will express their discontent with the regulation.

B. All the students will strongly support the regulation.

C. The students will surely have another argument on whether to carry out the regulation.

D. Many of the students will tend to ignore the regulation.

高三英语周测试题

虎门中学高三周测英语试题1 第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) A The small coastal town of Broome, in northwest Australia, is a remote village in the vast countryside. There are no traffic jams and hardly any roads. There is only the massive Australian wild land, where some houses are 500 miles apart and some driveways are 50 miles long. There seem to be only two main sources of entertainment out here: the sunset at the beach and Sun Pictures. Sun Pictures is a very different movie theater:The seats are park benches and deck chairs, but you’re also welcome to sit on the grass. It is the world’s oldest outdoor movie garden. Sun Pictures was built in 1916 on the other side of the globe from Hollywood. All the big films were shipped here and the lonely country was amazed. Broome resident Pearl Hamaguchi has never traveled far from home. But in the Sun Pictures chairs, under the deep blue night sky, she has been almost everywhere. “And we came back excited about Gregory Peck,” she recalled. This is one of the few places left in the world where you can see two sets of stars at the same time-----one set in the sky, the other in the film. Each night, dozens of people from around the world line up at the old wooden stand, with no computer in sight, and buy their tickets to the latest films. Sun Pictures is also a museum, exhibiting projectors(放映机) that date back to the silent films, a portrait gallery of the famous people who never knew about this place---- even though they came here all the time. Every once in a while, I’m told, you might find a non-ticket holder in your seat. That’s why it’s always a good idea to shake out your chair to make sure there are no spiders or scorpions. “We’ve only had a couple of scorpion incidents but no one’s been stung yet,” said Aaron Mestemaker, a tourist visiting from Michigan. Sun Pictures is a holy hall of movie history and a reminder that air conditioning and carpet are no match for grass and fresh air---even when the lizards steal the scene. 21. The first two paragraphs want to show that__________. A. living in Broome is inconvenient B. the life in Broome is boring C. few people like to live in Broome D. Broome is simple but vast 22. Sun Pictures is different from other theaters because _________. A. it is the most historical outdoor theater in the world B. the audience can either sit on chairs or on the grass C. it was built by some constructor from Hollywood D. all the films were imported here from Hollywood 23. Gregory Peck is most probably the name of_________. A. a place B. a film C. a movie star D. a country fellow

石家庄二中实验学校2018级英语周考试卷 命题人张建伟做题人殷晓优考试时间8 月23 日 I 阅读理解(共4 小题;每小题2 分,满分8分) Recently, researchers at the University of Toronto figured out a way with a quick video selfie to accurately measure blood pressure with your smartphone’s camera by developing a technology known as transdermal optical imaging (TOI)(透皮光学成像). Cameras on smartphones can catch red light reflected from hemoglobin (血红素)under our skin, which permits TOI to visualize and measure blood flow changes. Researchers measured the blood pressure of 1,328 Canadian and Chinese adults by getting two-minute vide os of their faces on an iPhone. “From the video got by the technology, you can see how the blood flows in different parts of the face and through this flow, you can get a lot of information,” said Kang Lee, lead author of the study. Lee also helped create an app called Anura, which allows people to try out the TOI software for themselves, giving them the ability to record a 30-second video of their face and receive measurements for stress levels and resting heart rate. Lee said more research was needed to make sure that the measurements were as accurate as possible, explaining that the study didn’t test people with very dark or very fair skin. “In order to improve our app to make it usable, particularly for people with hypertension (高血压),we need to collect a lot of data from them, which is very hard because a lot of them are already taking medicine,”Lee explained. “We cannot tell them not to take medicine, but from time to time, we get participants who don’t take medicine so we can get hypertensive people this way.” The scientists said there were many potential applications of the technology, including providing health services for those who lived in remote areas. 1. What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 2? A. Information offered by TOI. B. New findings on hypertension. C. How TOI is put into smart phones. D. How the TOI technology works. 2. What might people benefit from the new technology mentioned above? A. Living a life free from stress. B. Improving the heart function gradually. C. Accessing health services for free. D. Knowing abnormal blood pressure earlier. 3. What can be done for a better Anura? A. Equipping phones with better cameras. B. Allowing phones to record longer videos. C. Collecting data from more diverse samples. D. Persuading participants not to take medicine. 4. Why does the author write this text? A. To predict future applications of TOI. B. To introduce TOI and an app related. C. To describe functions of cameras on phones. D. To evaluate the quality of an app called Anura. II 单项选择(必修五U1-U5;满分15分,每小题1分) 5. 高三英语考试题

高二英语 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分) A Edmund Halley was an English scientist who lived over 200 years ago. He studied the observations of comets(彗星) which other scientists had made. The orbit of one particular comet was a very difficult mathematical problem. He could not figure it out. Neither could other scientists who dealt with such problems. However, Halley had a friend named Isaac Newton, who was a brilliant mathematician. Newton thought he had already worked out that problem, but he could not find the papers on which he had done it. He told Halley that the orbit of a comet had the shape of an ellipse. Now Halley set to work. He figured out the orbits of some of the comets that had been observed by scientists. He made a surprising discovery. The comets that had appeared in the years 1531, 1607 and 1682 all had the same orbit. Yet their appearances had been 75 to 76 years apart. This seemed very strange to Halley. Three different comets followed the same orbit. The more Halley thought about, the more he thought that there had not been three different comets, as people thought. He decided that they had simply seen the same comet three times. The comet had gone away and had come back again. It was an astonishing idea! Halley felt certain enough to make a prediction of what would happen in the future. He decided that this comet would appear in the year 1758. There were 53 years to go before Halley's prediction could be tested. In 1758 the comet appeared in the sky. Halley did not see it, for he had died some years before. Ever since then that comet had been called Halley's comet, in his honour. 1.Halley made his discovery________. A.by doing experiments B.by means of his own careful observation C.by using the work of other scientists D.by chance 2.Halley made a surprising but correct prediction in the year________. A.1704B.1705C.1706D.1707 3.This text in general is about________. A.Halley and other scientists B.the orbit of a comet C.Newton and Halley D.Halley and his discovery 4.Which of the following is TRUE? A.Edmund Halley was an American scientist. B.Halley made his discovery by doing experiment. C.Isaac Newton was a famous mathematician. D.The orbit of a comet had the shape of a round. B Recordings of angry bees are enough to send big, tough African elephants running away, a new study says. Beehives (蜂窝)—either recorded or real—may even prevent elephants from damaging farmer’s crops. In 2002, scientist Lucy King and her team found that elephants avoid certain trees with bees living in them. Today, Lucy wants to see if African honeybees might discourage elephants from eating crops. But before she asked farmer to go to the trouble of setting up beehives on their farms, she needed to find out if the bees would scare elephants away. Lucy found a wild beehive inside a tree in northern Kenya and set up a recorder. Then she threw a stone into the beehive, which burst into life. Lucy and her assistant hid in their car until the angry bees had calmed down. Next,Lucy searched out elephant families in Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya and put a speaker in a tree close to each family. From a distance, Lucy switched on the pre-recorded sound of angry bees while at the same time recording the elephants with a video camera. Half the elephant groups left the area within ten seconds. Out of a total of 17 groups, only one group ignored the sound of the angry bees. Lucy reported that all the young elephants immediately ran to their mothers to hide under them. When Lucy played the sound of a waterfall (瀑布) instead of the angry bees to many of the same elephant families, the animals were undisturbed. Even after four minutes, most of the groups stayed in one place. Lucy is now studying whether the elephants will continue to avoid the sound of angry bees after hearing it several times. She hasn’t tested enough groups yet to know, but her initial (最初的) results were promising enough to begin trials with farmers. She has now begun placing speakers in the fields to see if elephants are frightened away. 5. We know from the passage that elephants may be frightened of . A. loud noises B. some crops C. video cameras D. angry bees 6. As mentioned in the passage, Lucy . A. works by herself in Africa B. needs to test more elephant groups C. has stopped elephants eating crops D. has got farmers to set up beehives on their farms 7. Why did Lucy throw a stone into a wild beehive? A. To record the sound of bees. B. To make a video of elephants. C. To see if elephants would run away. D. To find out more about the behavior of bees. 8. Which of the following is true according to the passage? A. Young elephants ignore African honeybees. B. Waterfalls can make elephants stay in one place. C. Elephants do not go near trees with bees living in them. D. Farmers do not allow Lucy to conduct tests in their fields.
