― Refudiate—a word coined by US politician Sarah Palin in a cross between refute and repudiate---also made the top 10, according to the annual Global Language Monitor survey.

The Texas-based survey uses a mathematics formula to track the frequency of words and phrases in the English-speaking world of more than 1.58 billion people.

It declared that Apple’s new ipad was one of the top names of the year on a list that also featured ―Chilean Coal Miners‖, reflecting the worldwide fascination with televised rescue last October of 33 men trapped deep in a mine.

― Anger and rage‖ among political voters from the United States to Greece was deemed the most popular phrases of 2010. ―Obamania,‖ one of the biggest phrases of the past two years, ranked in the 10th place.

― Our top words this year come from an environmental disaster, the world cup, political malapropism, and a heroic rescue that captivated the world for days on end,‖ said Paul J.J.Payak, president of Global language Monitor.

In politics, Tea Party-the U.S. grass-roots political movement-made both the 2010 top phrases and top names list, while ― Man up!‖-a signature retort from U.S.political women to their male opponents, made its first entry.

If you’re a male and you’re reading this, congratulations! You’re a survivor. According to statistics, you’re more than twice as likely to die of skin cancer than a woman, a nine times more likely to die of AIDS. Assuming you make it to the end of your natural term, about 78 years for men in Australia, you’ll die on average five years before a woman.

There’re many reasons for this——typically, men take more risks than women and are more likely to drink and smoke——but perhaps more importantly, men don’t go to the doctor.

―Men aren’t seeing doctors as often as they should,‖ says Dr. Gullotta. ―This is particularly so for the over-40s, when diseases tend to strike.

Gullotta says a healthy man should visit the doctor every year or two. For those over 45, it should be at least once a year.

―When I finally saw him it had already spread and he has since died from lung cancer,‖ he says, ―Earlier detection and treatment may not hav e cured him, but it would have prolonged his life.‖

According to a recent survey, 95% of women aged between 15 and early 40s see a doctor once a year, compared to 70% of men in the same age group.

―A lot of men think they can never be defeated,‖ Gullotta says. ―They only come in when a friend drops dead on the golf course and they think, ―Geez, if it could happen to him…‖

Then there’s the ostrich approach. ―Some men are scared of what might be there and would rather not know,‖ says Dr. Ross Cartmill.

―Most men get their cars serviced more regularly than they service their bodies,‖ Cartmill says. He believes most diseases that commonly affect men could be addressed by preventive check-ups.

Regular check-ups for men would inevitably place strain on the public purse, Cartmill says. ―But prevention is cheaper in the long run than having to treat the diseases. Besides, the ultimate cost is far greater, it’s called premature death.‖

67. Why does the author congratulate his male readers at the beginning of the passage?

A) They are more likely to survive serious diseases today.

B) Their average life span has been considerably extended.

C) They have lived long enough to read this article.

D) They are sure to enjoy a longer and happier life.

68. Which of the auth or’s statement is the most important reason men die five years

earlier on average than women according to the passage?

A) Men drink and smoke much more than women.

B) Men don’t seek medical care as often as women.

C) Men aren’t as cautious as women in fa ce of danger.

D) Men are more likely to suffer from fatal diseases.

69. Which of the following best completes the sentence ―Geez, if it could happen to him…‖?

A) it could happen to me, too. B) I should consider myself lucky.

C) I should avoid playing golf. D) it would be a big misfortune.

70. What does Dr. Ross Cartmill mean by ―the ostrich approach‖ ?

A) A casual attitude towards one’s health conditions.

B) A new therapy for certain psychological problems.

C) Refusal to get medical treatment for fear of the pain involved.

D) Unwillingness to find out about one’s disease because of fear.

71. What does Cartmill say about regular check-ups for men?

A) They may increase public expenses.

B) They will save money in the long run.

C) They may cause psychological strains on men.

D) They will enable men to live as long as women.

D

As Anna McKane of the London Observer said, "They moved heaven and earth to build the Channel Tunnel. But they also had to move a forest."

It seems that an ancient forest, called Biggins Wood, stood in the way of the tunnel entrance between England and France. (Because the tunnel goes under the English Channel, people call it the Chunnel. It is one of the greatest engineering feats (业绩) of the twentieth century.)

Biggins Wood was full of beautiful old oak trees. Environmental experts wanted to save these trees for a number of reasons. One was tradition. There had always been a Biggins Wood. Another reason was sentiment. People loved those trees. The third was a more scientific reason. They wanted to save the genes from the trees: these oak trees were ideal for this location. For generations of oak trees, they had been growing stronger and stronger. It would be very sad to lose them.

Six years before the building of the Channel Tunnel, students from Wye College collected thousands of acorns (橡果) from the woods. They planted these oak tree seeds and produced 2,000 healthy little oak trees. The students also collected the small plants of Biggins Wood to plant along with the acorns. They wanted the seedlings to grow as they had in the first Biggins Wood. Because the soil itself was important, they

removed tons of it from Biggins Wood. This soil was spread over one hectare (2.5 acres). It became the baby-tree field.

The environmental manager of the Eurotunnel Project (the tunnel's proper name) also manages the Chunnel Wood project. Katharine Kershaw, the manager, planned a typical British landscape. She wanted it to look just like the rest of the peaceful English countryside. She says that about 220,000 trees and plants are now growing around the tunnel entrance, the railroad, and the side roads. The great oak trees of the area may be gone, but not for long. In a few years the new growth and the natural growth will merge, joining to make a new Biggins Wood. People leaving the tunnel will see a beautiful, natural England.

72. We can infer from the passage that Anna McKane is _____.

A. a student from Wye College

B. a reporter for a British newspaper

C. the manager of the Eurotunnel Project

D. an environmental expert in Biggins Woods

73. Which statement about the Chunnel is not correct?

A. It is the name of the tunnel under the English Channel.

B. It is a tunnel that links England and Germany.

C. It is one of the greatest engineering feats of the twentieth century.

D. The proper name of this tunnel is the Eurotunnel.

74. One reason to save the oak trees was tradition. In other words, _____.

A. the oak trees had always been in Biggins Wood

B. the oak trees are the symbol of England

C. people loved the oak trees

D. scientists wanted to save the acorns

75. What is the environmental manager’s attitude towards the Chunnel Wood Project?

A. Upset.

B. Pessimistic.

C. Satisfied.

D. Confident.

I’m writing to tell you something about how we students use the Internet. As we all know, the Internet is playing a important part in our daily life. We often read news at home and abroad and learning foreign languages by ourselves on the Internet. Sometimes we sent e-mails to our families as well as our friends. Beside, we listen music, enjoy films and play computer games on it. We can even do shopping without leaving our homes.

However, it has its disadvantages. We waste too much time playing the electronic games, that has a bad effect on our studies. What’s worse, the bad information on the Internet do great harm to them. I hope we can make the use of

the Internet proper for our studies.

(Text 10)

There were three professors at the railway station. They were deep in conversation. The train had just moved, but they did not notice it. Then the guard shouted, ―Take your seats, please!‖

The professors heard the guard and rushed for the train. Two of them got on the train before it moved. The third one was left behind. It was Professor Egghead. He looked sad.

One of the professor’s students was at the station. He tried to comfort the professor. ―It wasn’t bad, sir,‖ said the student, ―two out of three caught the train. That’s quite good, you know.‖ ―I know,‖ the professor said, ―but it was my train. My friends only

came to say goodbye.‖

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening folks,

It’s my pleasure to be here today representing my group, to report a research project ―The World Food Crisis‖. As you might know, food shortages have hit many countries across the world and even caused many social problems in lots of areas. But who is responsible for the current world food crisis? There are a couple of fundamental factors behind this. Global climate change is the main reason for declining annual grain production. Rapid development of modern industry and urbanization at the same time contribute to massive farmland loss. Furthermore, attracted by profit due to rising energy prices, people have turned to the production of biofuels, which has worsened the severe situation.

The question is what we should do to solve this. On one hand, we must start focusing on environmental protection and devoting to ecological improvement. On the other hand, strict laws and policies need to be in place to keep existing farmland. Last but not least, developed countries should take more responsibilities to help poor regions suffering food issues.

As for us, we should call on the people around us to live more thriftily. Let’s study more diligently, aiming to participating in solving the root cause of The World Food Crisis in the near future.

2018年浙江省杭州高中高考英语最后一卷-教师用卷

2018年浙江省杭州高中高考英语最后一卷 副标题 一、阅读理解(本大题共10小题,共25.0分) A One day your pocket might power your smart phone.Soon you may never have to worry about your smart phone running out of juice.Your clothing will simply power it back up for you. That's the word from scientists at China's Chongqing and Jinan Universities in a study just published in the journal ACS Nano. Researchers have been hard at work during the last few years trying to create wearable energy,or clothes that can charge things. The assumption is simple.People today rely heavily upon devices such as smart phones and tablets. And they're looking for ways to recharge these devices on the go.So if you could design clothing fabric that could make use of solar power -one of the most widely available and inexhaustible renewable energy sources - you'd be able to charge your various devices with ease. Scientists have had some past success creating energy-harvesting fibers. But there was always one problem when they tried to fashion these threads into self-powered smart clothes:The fibers they designed got damaged during the clothing manufacturing process, namely during the weaving and cutting. The Chongqing and Jinan University scientists say they've solved this problem because the energy-collecting and energy-storing threads they created are highly flexible - each individual thread is easily bendable, and not simply the fabric as a whole. The team's sample textile can be fully charged to 1.2 volts in 17 seconds by exposure to sunlight - enough voltage that your future smart T or smart dress might be able to power small electronics. It's durable, too;their research showed there was no descent in the fabric after 60 days. But don't worry that this means the fabric is similar to rough cloth. The scientists note their textile can be fashioned into numerous different patterns, and tailored into any designed shape, without affecting performance. 1.What does the underlined phrase "running out of juice" in paragraph 1mean?______ A. Being lacking in energy. B. Wanting to have some juice. C. Being picked out of a drink. D. Having some water running out. 2.Why could smart dress charge a phone?______ A. A solar cell is attached to the dress. B. The fabric of the textile contains current. C. The fabric of the textile is easily bendable. D. The fabric of the textile could collect and store the solar energy. 3.What is the scientists' attitude towards the scientific technology?______ A. Optimistic. B. Pessimistic. C. Neutral. D. Doubtful.
