2022高考英语二轮阅读理解归类复习—健康饮食(详解)(2020·广东卷)I have been consistently opposed to feeding a baby regularly. As a doctor, mother and scientist in child development I believe there is nothing to recommend it,from the baby's point of view.Mothers, doctors and nurses alike have no idea of where a baby's blood sugar level lies. All we know is that a low level is harmful to brain development and makes a baby easily annoyed. In this state, the baby is difficult to calm down and sleep is impossible. The baby asks for attention by crying and searching for food with its mouth. It is not just unkind but also dangerous to say a fourhourly feeding schedule will make a baby satisfied. The first of the experts to advocate a strict clock-watching schedule was Dr Frederic Truby King who was against feeding in the night.I've never heard anything so ridiculous.Baby feeding shouldn't follow a timetable set by the mum. What is important is feeding a baby in the best way, though it may cause some inconvenience in the first few weeks.Well,at last we have copper-bottomed research that supports demand feeding and points out the weaknesses of strictly timed feeding. The research finds out that babies who are fed on demand do better at school at age 5,7,11 and 14,than babies fed according to the clock.By the age of 8,their IQ (智商) scores are four to five percent higher than babies fed by a rigid timetable. This research comes from Oxford and Essex University using a sample (样本) of 10,419 children born in the early 1990s,taking account of parental education, family income,a child's sex and age,the mother's health and feeding style. These results don't surprise me.Feeding according to schedule runs the risk of harming the rapidly growing brain by taking no account of sinking blood sugar levels.I hope this research will put an end to advocating strictly timed baby feeding practices.【语篇解读】本文关于婴儿喂养的时刻提出了不同的看法,作者认为严格按照时刻表喂婴儿是错的。
专题 22 命题选材视角之饮食健康尚健康生活,从而也越来越注重饮食质量和安全问题,因此为了顺应时代潮流,高考英语阅读材料会紧跟A“If you are cold, it will warm you; if you are too heated, it will cool you; if you are depressed, it will cheer you; if you are exhausted, it will calm you.”The poem best identifies the passion for tea in Britain.Outside of the United Kingdom, many people refer to afternoon tea as“high tea”.Afternoon tea, also known as low tea, is what most people think of when they hear “high tea”.It involves things like manners, lace (蕾丝) and light meals such as cookies and finger sandwiches. It is typically served in the midafternoon and it was traditionally served on low tables, hence its two names.Legend has it that afternoon tea was started in the mid1800s by the Duchess of Bedford.Around that time, kerosene (煤油) lamp s were introduced into wealthier homes and eating a late dinner (around 8 or 9 p.m.) became fashionable. This increasingly late dinner was one of the only two meals each day, and the other was a midmorning one.The story goes that the Duchess found herself with a “sinking feeling”.This came from hunger during the long wait between meals. She decided to invite friends over for various snack s and tea.The idea of an afternoon tea gathering spread across high society and became a favorite pastime of females for leisure.Later, it spread to other social groups. However, the British working population did not have afternoon tea. They had a meal about midday, and a meal after work, between five and seven o’clock. This meal was called “high tea”or just “tea”.Traditionally eaten early evening, high tea was a substantial meal that combined delicious sweet food, such as cookies, cakes or tea bread, with heavy food, such as cheese on toast, cold meats and poach ed eggs on toast. This meal is now often replaced with a supper due to people eating their main meal in the evening rather than at midday.1.What is the author’s purpose of using a poem at the beginning of the passage?A.To introduce a topic.B.To present a puzzle.C.To describe the phenomenon.D.To clarify his writing purpose.2.What led to the appearance of afternoon tea?A.Kerosene lamps were used at home.B.Upper class had more free time.C.Drinking tea makes people feel good.D.Duchess of Bedford was influential in social circle.3.What was the most important feature of afternoon tea in the mid1800s?A.Simple food and tea.B.A ladies’ social occasion.C.Being served on low tables.D.Serving time.4.What is the best title for the text?A.Origin s of High TeaB.Ways of Low TeaC.Traditional Afternoon TeaD.High Tea and Low TeaBBack in 1988, Red Delicious made up 70 to 80 percent of the domestic apple market. Over the years, farmers sold a lot of them because they looked great. But they had a floury texture (口感), and people want an apple that’s firm, crisp and juicy. I started searching for the one. By 1994, threaten ed by varieties from Japan and New Zealand, the U.S. apple industry and Washington State University agreed that we had to grow our own.First, we cross-pollinated (为异花授粉) existing apples: Collect pollen from one flower, put it on the tip of a pencil eraser, and rub it into another. We crossed dozens of crisp, tasty varieties such as Gala, Fuji, and Pink Lady. But the best breed came out of Honeycrisp and Enterprise parents. The crossbred seeds grew into 5-foot trees, and we grafted those onto rootstocks (根状茎) to make them start producing quickly, and planted them in evaluation gardens. A few years later, they fruit ed — and we began tasting. So I would walk along long rows of hundreds and thousands of trees, and when I found an attractive fruit, I’d bite, chew, and spit it out. Most were terrible, but when I found one with good texture and t aste, I’d pick 10 or 20 of them. Then I put them in cold storage to see how they would hold up after a few months. After that, three or four researchers sat down and tasted every apple. We checked acidity and sugar levels, which can change over time, and tested firmness and crispness using instrument s that measure pressure and cell breakdown. When we found exactly what we wanted, we planted and tested them all over again. Eventually, we ended up with Cosmic Crisp. It can spend nine to twelve months in storage, and stay crisp, firm, juicy and sweet.5.What does the author mainly tell us?A.Why Red Delicious sells best.B.How apples with a good texture are grown.C.Why apples cross-pollinated taste nice.D.How a new variety of apple comes into being.6.How do the researchers grow Cosmic Crisp?A.By testing acidity and sugar levels.B.By crossbreeding with good varieties.C.By selecting fine fruits.D.By evaluating the quality.7. .Which is the closest in meaning to the underlined word “grafted” in Parag raph 2?A.Applied. B.Rubbed.C.Attached. D.Changed.8. .What can we learn from the text?A.The apple seeds cross-pollinated take a few years to grow.B.Cosmic Crisp has a longer storage life and better quality.C.Cosmic Crisp is mainly bred from Gala and Fuji.D.The quality of apples lies in its acidity and sugar levels.C(2020·安徽省五校联考)We humans are addicted to sugar. That makes sense. All animals need sugar to live. It’s the fuel that powers our cells. So it’s not surprising that we’re bo rn to want the sweet stuff.Sugar stores the sun’s energy like a battery. After a meal, your body breaks down foods into their building blocks. It uses some sugar for energy right away. The rest get stored for the body to break down later. It’s a myth that sugar makes you extremely excited, but having a sugary snack can give you a quick burst of energy. That’s because the sugar in sweet foods is easy for your body to turn into fuel. When you eat other kinds of foods, like vegetables, it takes longer for your body to break the sugar down. These days it’s easy to find sweet snacks. Soda s, candy, cakes and even foods that seem healthy, such as yogurt, can be packed with sugar. Food makers add sugar, because they know that to humans, sweet makes everything taste better. Americans eat about 20 teaspoons of extra sugar every day. That’s way more than what is good for us.Eating too much sugar can cause more than a stomachache. It can make people overweight, decay the teeth and even cause diabete s. However, experts aren’t worried about naturally sweet foods —the problem is addedsugar. So go ahead and enjoy sweet apples or even sugar-rich carrots that are also full of vitamins and other good stuff.Even cake is great once in a while, as long as you don’t overdo it. After all, no one wants life to be dull. And your body needs its fuel!9..The first two paragraphs are mainly developed by ________.A.cause and effect B.problem and solutionC.giving examples D.making comparison s10.People may be tricked into eating too much sugar because ________.A.no one wants life to be boringB.we’re born to want the sweet stuffC.so-called healthy food can be packed with sugarD.sugar is the fuel for the plants and animals on the earth11.What does the author want to stress in Paragraph 4?A.We’d better say no to sweet foods.B.Experts are worried about added sugar.C.Eating too much sugar is bad for our health.D.We’d better consume sugar from natural sources.12.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Sugar Is EverywhereB.Sugar Brings HappinessC.Why Do We Love Sugar?D.Why Does Sugar Make Us Fat?答案:A1. 解析:选A推理判断题。
2022高考英语二轮阅读理解讲与练(解析)-购物、饮食与健康(1)【黄冈中学期中测试】Doomed beauties such as Cleopata and Manilyn Monroe were far from alone in their misery. Very attractive people tend to form partnerships that are less stable and satisfying than those enjoyed by plain_Janes .According to the research by Dr John Blaine of the University of Southern California, relationships between people whose professions largely depend on their appearance, such as models or actors, tend to end much faster than those between lawyers, doctors and students.Blaine said the beautiful felt different from children. They are treated as special, which may create both arrogance (傲慢)and insecurity. All too often, beauty can be used as an alternative to education. Often they are pushed out of their class or town, told to go off and make their fortune in Hollywood or London and, when the majority fail, they have few talents to make a living. Blaine added that beautiful people score poorly on the “big five”—the key factors American experts consider when helping distressed couples. These are neuroticism(神通过敏),including anger and anxiety; extroversion(性格外向);openness to new experiences; agreeableness; conscientiousness, and sticking by agreements they have made. Attractive people often see no reason to try to change until their looks start to fade.Krista Sutherlanf, of the University of California Los Angeles, said partnerships that appeared to be perfect from the outside, such as the former “dream teams” of Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise or Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley, where backgrounds and aspirations(抱负) are often shared ,did not necessarily lead to happiness.1.What can we infer from the first sentence of the passage?A.Beautiful women always felt lonely.B.Beautiful women were always alone.C.Many beautiful women didn’t end up with a happy life.D.Beautiful women always lived a happy life.2.The underlined phrase “plain Janes”in the passage refers to“________”.A.ordinary looking women B.women called JaneC.common people D.attractive women3.We can infer from the passage that________.A.Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley were a coupleB.Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were very satisfied with their lifeC.when they fail in Hollywood, the beautiful have little trouble in making a livingD.the marriage of the beautiful often lasts long4.Which of the following is the best title?A.Five key factors affecting the partnership B.Beauties are doomed to fail in love C.Beautiful or common? 饮食与健康类1、Good for your health? Socialising with your friends could bum more calories than running on a treadmill (跑步机). Socialising keeps you slim.Keeping a busy social life among lots of friends may keep people slimmer than spending hours on a treadmill, according to scientists. They say that socialising and meeting with friends help high levels of “brown fat” in the body bum calories to generate heat. Living in a stimulating social environment was found to reduce abdominal fat in mice by half over four weeks, even if they ate more.U. S. researchers say that social stimulation aids weight loss by converting white fat into brown. White stores calories andmakes us fatter, while brown bums energy to generate heat. Converting white fat into brown is notoriously difficult, normally requiring long term exposure to cold conditions or activating part of the body's nervous system. However, scientists from Ohio State University now think that having a busy social life is an even more effective way of changing white fat into brown. The team came up with their theory by studying the effects of various living environments on mice. Those who lived alongside a greater number of mice, had more space and toys to stimulate them to lose far more weight over the course of the study than their "couch potato" counterparts.Study author Dr. Matthew During, whose team's findings appear in journal CellMetabolism said,“I’m still amazed at the degree of fat loss that occurs. ” Explaining how new technology had threatened face-to-face socialising,he added,“It’s not just a sedentary (久坐的) lifestyle and high calorie foods, but an increasing lack of social engagement.''Co-author Dr. Lei Cao said, “ Loneliness is a profound factor for cancer and death; it’s on par with cigarette smoking. Social engagement is very important."1.In orde r to keep a charming feature, it’s better to _________.A.live sociallyB.run on a treadmillC.eat lessD.expose to coldness2.Couch potato counterparts refer to _________.A.a greater number of miceB.more space and toysC.those with more weightD.changing white fat to brown3.What do the underlined words “on par with" in Paragraph 6 mean?A.More than.B.Less than.C.At the same level as.D.At higher level than.4.What is the main idea of the passage?A.Socialising keeps you slim.B.Running on a treadmill keeps you slim.C.Turning white fat into brown.D.Living often with mice.2、Recently a study, led by Pedro Hallal of the Federal University, suggests that nearly a third of adults, 31%, are not getting enough exercise. That rates of exercise have declined is hardly a new discovery. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, technology and economic growth have helped to create a world in which taking exercise is more and more an option rather than a necessity. But only recently have enough good data been collected from enough places to carry out the sort of analysis Dr Hallal and his colleagues have engaged in.There are common themes in different places. Unsurprisingly, people in rich countries are less active than those in poor ones, and old people are less active than young ones. Less obviously, women tend to exercise less than men—34% are inactive, compared with 28% of men. But there are exceptions. The women of Croatia,Finland,IraqandLuxembourg, for example, move more than their male countrymen.Maltawins the race for most slothful country, with 72% of adults getting too little exercise, andSwazilandandSaudi Arabiaare in close behind, with 69%. InBangladesh, just 5% of adults fail to exercise enough. Surprisingly, six Americans i n ten are active enough according to Dr Hallal’s study, compared with fewer than four in ten British. These high rates of inactivity are worrying. Human beings seem to have evolved to benefit from exercise while deliberately avoiding it whenever they can. In a state of nature it would be impossible to live a life that did not provide enough of it. But that is no longer the case. Actually lack of enough activity these days has nearly the same effect on life span as smoking.1. We may learn from Paragraph 1 that _________.A.the decline of exercise rates is newly discoveredB.the study suggests 31% of female adults get too little exerciseC.the industrial revolution has changed the way people live to some degreeD.the good enough data has been collected from only one country2.According to the study, women ofLuxembourg_________.A.have little time to exerciseB.hate to get regular exerciseC.take more exercise to lose weightD.exercise more than men in their country3.The underlined word “slothful” in Par agraph 3 most probably means _________.zyB.richC.powerfulD.unpopular4.What can be the best title for the text?A. Benefits of Taking ExerciseB.New Health DiscoveryC.Evolvement of Human BeingsD.Worldwide Lack ofE.nough Exercise3、The World Health Organization report compared the “obesity-related behaviors” for youngsters across 42 nations. And it reveals UK kids are among the laziest.Among teenage girls, the Scots toped the league table for most screen time, with 80 per cent spending at least two hours a day on computers. Wales came fourth with 76 per cent, and Englandseventh with 75 per cent. Girls in Armenia and Albania were least likely to spend hours idling online.Screen time figures for boys were even higher. Wales was second in the European “couch potato” league, with 85 per cent glued to their screens for at least two hours. Scotland was third with 84 per cent, and England 15th with 77 per cent. Boys in Switzerland and Portugal were least likely to dedicate two hours a day to sitting in front of a computer.Lead researcher Dr Jo Inchley, from the University of St Andrews, said social media was impacting on kids' health. She said, “We know there are risks, such as cyber bullying and impact on mental health. Also, there are longer-term impacts on physical health from being sedentary. One of the main challenges is that this kind of activity (social media and computer use) is so much part of young people's lives these days.” She said more needs to be done to get kids moving throughout the day.Dr Steven Mann, research director for UK Active said the findings were “alarming”. He said, “Modern life has changed, but when teens are spending hours hunched over Facebook, Instagram and videogames, they simply aren't getting the exercise that they need. These alarming inactivity figures show that playtime is over before it has started for too many children, putting them at far greater risk of future conditions like heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes.”Tam Fry, from the Na tional Obesity Forum, warned Brit teens are now “slaves to hand-held devices”. And the WHO warns four in five fat teens will continue to struggle with their weight throughout life. The report also shows less than half of UK youngsters consume fruit or veg daily.1.What do we know about the “obesity-related behaviors” for youngsters across 42 nations? kids didn't exercise enough.B.Girls spent more time on computers than boys.C.Girls in Wales ranked the first in terms of screen time.D.Only Swiss boys are among the laziest.2.What does the underlined word “sedentary” in Paragraph 4 mean?A.Cyber bullying.puter using.C.Exercising.D.Sitting or little activity.3.What is the main reason for obesity for UK teens?A.Less fruit or veg consuming.B.Too much use of electronic devices.C.Too much playtime.ck of physical education.4.Why are these screen time figures alarming? kids will be beaten.B.All UK kids will suffer from overweight.C.Risk of certain diseases will increase.D.More hand-held devices need to be produced.4、If you are taking vitamin supplements to reduce your risk of heart disease or cancer, a group of health experts want you to know that those vitamins may actually increase your risk of cancer. The US Preventive Services Task Force came to this conclusion after reviewing dozens of studies.Nearly half of adults in theUStake at least one vitamin or mineral supplement on a regular basis. These pills are advertised as a way to promote general health. In some cases, manufacturers promote them as cancer fighters and heart protectors.Studies in animals and in laboratory dishes suggest that oxidative(氧化性的) stress contributes to diseases like cancer and heart disease. If so, there is a reason to believe that antioxidants—including beta-carotene, vitamins A, C, and E—could be useful as preventive medicines. But when the Task Force examined the medic al evidence on vitamins, it found “inadequate(不充分的) evidence” to support the claims that vitamin and mineral supplements benefit healthy adults.“Cardiovascular(心血管的) disease and cancer have a significant health impact in America, and we all want to f ind ways to prevent these diseases,” Dr. Virginia Moyer, who heads the Task Force, said in a statement. But so far, she added, the medical evidence does not show that taking vitamins is helpful in this regard. However, the Task Force did find “adequate evidence” that people with a raised risk for lung cancer actually increase their risk further by taking beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A.The Task Force recommendations of taking vitamins regularly apply to healthy adults aged 50 and older wh o don't have “ special nutritional needs”. The advice does not apply to children, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, people with chronic illnesses, or people who have to take supplements because they can't get all their essential nutrients from their diet.1.Studies in animals and in laboratory dishes find out________.A.ample evidence that taking vitamins are helpful for treating lung cancerB.cardiovascular disease spreads very fast inAmericaC.oxidative stress can lead to heart disease and cancerD.people must take vitamins on a regular basis2.What can we conclude from Task Force's findings?A.Scientists want to control cardiovascular disease.B.In some regard, taking vitamins is not useful.C.Manufacturers cannot produce medical-use vitamins.D.Vitamins must be useful to prevent cancer and heart disease.3.Who can take vitamins regularly according to the advice of the Task Force?A.A 60-year-old healthy worker.B.A 15-year-old boy with short-sightedness.C.A 34-year-old pregnant lady.D.A 40-year-old man who never eats vegetables or fruits.4.What's the best title for the text?A.An Inside Look at VitaminsB.Task Force: Ending to VitaminsC.Vitamins: To Live or to KillD.Taking Vitamins to Prevent Cancer May Fail5、“All animal products co ntain much more concentrated levels of pesticide residue (杀虫剂残留) than either vegetables or grains. Red meat, chicken and fish contain no beneficial carbohydrates(碳水化合物) ,fiber...“Fish contain far more heavy metals and industrial pollutants than land a nimals...“There is a common misconception that vegetarians have limited food choices. Just the opposite is true. Vegetarians commonly eat a wider variety of foods than most meat eaters.”-------“Vegetarian FAQ”,North American Vegetaria n Society “The more I got educated about creel treatment, it really was a no-brainer to become a vegetarian. You know, no one would barbeque their family dog. You know ,a pig or a chicken isn’t different. They are just as gentle as a dog or a cat...”----Public service announcement, Mike Ness “I’m not a vegetarian because I enjoy eating meat. Meat is nutritious food, and I believe there are ways to eat meat that are in keeping with my environmental and ethical (道德的) values. I don’t make the decision to eat meat lightly. Meat-eating has always been a messy business, shadowed by the shame of killing…“I have a sincere respect for vegetarians. For they have actually done the work of thinking through the consequences of their eating decisions, something most of the rest of us have not done. My own examination of those consequences has led me to the conclusion that eating a small amount of meat from certain kinds of farms is something I can feel good about.”-----“Animal Welfare:FAQ&Useful Links”,Michael Pollan “The centerpiece of a truly healthy diet must be animal foods. That means a large part of meat, seafood, eggs or raw dairy at just about every meal. That is how one recovers from vegetarianism and builds lasting health and strength.”-----“Recovering from Vegetarianism”, Ron Schmid1.Which of the following is mentioned in “Vegetarian FAQ”?A.Fish is better for human health than chicken.B.Vegetarians are much healthier than meat eaters.C.There are more kinds of plant foods than animal foods.D.There is more pesticide in vegetables than in animal products.2.What might Michael Pollan agree with?A.Vegetarians are thoughtful.B.Meat-eating should be forbidden.C.Vegetarians do something unnecessary.D.Meat-eating is helpful for the environment.3.What topic is discussed in the text?A.What are healthy foods?B.How to get the best nutrition.C.Reasons to become vegetarians.D.Should people become vegetarians?6、For years scientists have been worried about the effects of air pollution on the earth’s natural conditions. Some believe the air inside many houses may be more dangerous than the air outside. It may be one hundred times worse.Indoor air pollution can cause a person to feel tired, to suffer eye pain, headache and other problems. Some pollutants(污染物)can cause breathing disorders, diseases of blood and even cancer. Most scientists agree that every modern house has some kind of indoor pollution.People have paid more attention to the problem now. It is said that when builders began making houses and offices they did not waste energy. To do this they built buildings that limited the flow of air between inside and outside. They also began using man-made building materials. These materials are now known to let out harmful gases. As the problem became more serious, scientists began searching for a way to deal with it. They discovered a natural pollution control system for building——green plants. Scientists do not really know how plants control air pollution. They believe that a plant’s leaves a bsorb or take in the pollutants. In exchange the plant lets out oxygen through its leaves and small organizations on its roots. Scientists suggest that all buildings should have one large plant or several small plants inside for every nine square meters of space. Studies of different plants show that each absorbs different chemicals. So the most effective way to clean the air is to use different kinds of plants. Having green plants inside your house can make it a prettier and more healthy place.1.Some kind of indoor pollution can be found in ________.A.all kinds of officesB.every old houseC.all kinds of housesD.every modern house2.The indoor air pollution is caused by ________.A.the man-made building materials and the limit of air-flowB.the building way that the builders want to save energyC.the building things that are made of man-made materialsD.the limit of the flow of air between inside and outside3.The reason why we should use different kinds of plants to clean the air is that ________.A.plants can absorb all kinds of harmful indoor chemicalsB.plants may take in more oxygen which people needC.plants can let out all kinds of pollutants indoorsD.plants can make our houses prettier7、Whenever I hear a recording of John Denver's “Sunshine on My Shoulders’’,I find myself smiling, drawn to a love of sun and the outdoors I've had for years as a Michigan native, walking barefoot around the lake, playing shirtless in the sunlight, and breathing fresh air. As a doctor I can tell you they are also good for your heart.Studies have found higher rates of high blood pressure among people with the lowest. It may be clue to nitric oxide( 一氧化氮),a gas whose function is activated when your skin is exposed to the sun's rays. It reduces both heart attack and stroke risks. Vitamin D, which sunlight helps your body produce, is also linked to better health. So walk outdoors for 15 to 30 minutes daily. In Japan, walking through forests to keep healthy has become a popular practice. Apparently they want to enjoy the fresh air. But research on 280 volunteers there found that people had a reduced heart rate, and lower blood pressure when they walked through a forest than when they spent time in an urban area. One of the consequences of modem society is that our body is rarely in direct contact with the ground. The earth has an electrical current. Direct contact with it may be stabilizing force for good health. Although "earthing" or "grounding'' is considered alternative by mainstream medicine, research shows that the practice seems to be able to reduce heart disease risk. So, walk around barefoot wherever possible, let your backyard grass tickle your feet, and dig your toes into sandy beaches.1.The first paragraph is meant to _______.A.show the author likes the song very muchB.put forward the argument of the passageC.suggest that the author loves nature crazilyD.indicate the author is a Michigan native2.Sunbathing's good for heart because _______.A.sun’s rays make nitric oxide workB.sunlight can help people keep warmC.sun’s rays can help replace vitamin DD.vitamin D reduces blood circulation3.It's believed that walking through forests can ______.A.make people popularB.help breathe in fresh airC.reduce blood pressureD.help escape from noisy cities4.The best title of the passage should be _______.A.Nitric oxide has magic functionsB.Walking barefoot builds the bodyC.Sunbathing is good for healthD.Outdoor activities benefit the heart8、Measles(麻疹), which once killed 450 children each year and disabled even more, was nearly wiped out in the United States 14 years ago by the universal use of the MMR vaccine(疫苗). But the disease is making a comeback, caused by a growing anti-vaccine movement and misinformation that is spreading quickly. Already this year, 115 measles cases have been reported in the USA, compared with 189 for all of last year. The numbers might sound small, but they are the leading edge of a dangerous trend. When vaccination rates are very high, as they still are in the nation as a whole, everyone is protected. This is called "herd immunity", which protects the people who get hurt easily, including thosewho can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons, babies too young to get vaccinated and people on whom the vaccine doesn’t work. But herd immunity works only when nearly the whole herd joins in. When some refuse vaccination and seek a free ride, immunity breaks down and everyone is in even bigger danger. That’s exactly what is happening in small neighborhoods around the country from Orange County, California, where 22 measles cases were reported this month, to Brooklyn, N.Y., where a 17-year-old caused an outbreak last year. The resistance to vaccine has continued for decades, and it is driven by a real but very small risk. Those who refuse to take that risk selfishly make others suffer.Making things worse are state laws that make it too easy to opt out(决定不参加) of what are supposed to be required vaccines for all children entering kindergarten. Seventeen states allow parents to get an exemption(豁免), sometimes just by signing a paper saying they personally object to a vaccine. Now, several states are moving to tighten laws by adding new regulations for opting out. But no one does enough to limit exemptions.Parents ought to be able to opt out only for limited medical or religious reasons. But personal opinions? Not good enough. Everyone enjoys the life-saving benefits vaccines provide, but they’ll exist only as long as everyone shares in the risks.1.The first two paragraphs suggest that ____________.A.a small number of measles cases can start a dangerous trendB.the outbreak of measles attracts the public attentionC.anti-vaccine movement has its medical reasonsrmation about measles spreads quickly2.Herd immunity works well when ____________.A.exemptions are allowedB.several vaccines are used togetherC.the whole neighborhood is involved inD.new regulations are added to the state laws3.What is the main reason for the comeback of measles?A.The overuse of vaccine.B.The lack of medical care.C.The features of measles itself.D.The vaccine opt-outs of some people.4.What is the purpose of the passage?A.To introduce the idea of exemption.B.To discuss methods to cure measles.C.To stress the importance of vaccination.D.To appeal for equal rights in medical treatment.答案以及解析1答案及解析:答案:1.A; 2.C; 3.C; 4.A解析:1.细节理解题。
文体分类练(二)记叙文(限时:25分钟)Passage1(2023山东淄博一模)My husband and I always wanted to go to the Caribbean but didn’t know much about the islands or how we were going to afford it.By chance,a friend of ours in Australia mentioned “pet sitting” and that it is something you can do all over the world. We quickly created an account on a pet sitting website and began searching for options. There were only a couple of sits available in that part of the world, but we tried our luck, sent a request, and to our surprise landed a three-month job in Grenada,so our year was going to be taken up with Caribbean pet sits.Inspired by a Canadian couple,we decided to start our own travel blog.We began by writing about The Virgin Islands, highlighting the beautiful beaches. However, for every photo album of a beautiful beach, there were 10 photos of trash. It was hard to ignore the plastic pollution issue, especially on such primitive and remote beaches. So,we began to share photos of the trash we saw and how much we could pick up on our daily dog walks. The more we looked into plastic pollution, the more we realized the severity of the global plastic pollution. From that point,we used our platform to create awareness and highlight ways to say no to plastic and travel plastic-free.We changed our daily routines, our way of living, and even our diets to accommodate more organic foods and little to no plastic packaging. It’s been over three years now and we continue to do what we can. This journey has led us to some amazing places, working with great brands and even organizing a country-wide beach clean-up campaign in Grenada. Our aim now is to keep on going. We love connecting with like-minded people. It’s been amazing few years that was sparked by a conversation about pet sitting.Who would have ⾼考英语阅读理解专项突破:饮⾷与健康饮⾷与健康⼀、阅读理解1 Eating with a fork instead of a spoon can help you lose weight, a new research suggests. It also says that putting mirrors in your dining room will help weight loss because they actually make junk food taste worse. The researchers asked 185 college students to choose chocolate cake or a fruit salad and evaluate the taste. Those who ate them in a room with a mirror scored the taste of the junk food lower than those in a room without one, but it had no effect on the fruit salad.Lead scientist, Dr Ata Jami of the University of Central Florida, said: “A glance in the mirror tells people more than just about their physical appearance. It enables them to view themselves and helps them to judge themselves and their behaviors in a same way that they judge others.” The mirrors were found to push the subjects(实验对象) to compare and match their own behaviors with accepted social standards. The study’s authors believe it proves that people don’t want to look in the mirror when they feel that they are now sticking to those social standards. When they do look in the mirror, feelings of discomfort and failure are increased. Therefore, the presence of the mirror causes a discomfort and lowers the taste of unhealthy food. But, this is only the case if the person selects the food they are eating because they are responsible for that choice. The study suggests that mirrors be placed in eating spaces so people will start eating more healthily.1.According to the research, which of the following may taste worst when eating ina room with a mirror?A.Porridge.B.Chocolate cake.C.Vegetables.D.Chicken soup.2.Why can mirror influence the taste of junk food when people have it?A.Because it reminds people of their not charming appearance.B.Because it distracts people’s attention to judge others.C.Because it makes people feel full.D.Because it gives people a feeling of failure.3.To make people eat more healthily, it’s advised to place a mirror_____.A.in dining roomsB.in living roomsC.in bedroomsD.in gardens4.Which part of the journal may this text appear?A.Entertainment.B.Sports.C.Health./doc/1593aa85541810a6f524ccbff121dd36a22dc45c.html cation.2. "Well, I made it," says Greg Daniels with a smile.Recently there have been news reports and television shows reporting on the quality of school lunches. According to federal guidelines, French fries count as a serving of vegetables. Many parents and others are upset that a salty, deep-fried food is replacing healthier options like carrot sticks. As a result, thepotato---what French fries are made of --- has been getting a bad rap."The problem is not the potato," insists Greg. "Potatoes are very healthy. But any food, even carrots will be less healthy if it's cooked in grease(油脂)."Two months ago, Greg decided to eat nothing but potatoes for 60 days. As a high school science teacher and son of a potato farmer, he wanted to do something to draw attention to potatoes as a healthy food and a good choice as part of anyone's regular meals."It's been an interesting experience," Gr eg said. “For a while, I wasn't sure I would make it.I was pretty tired of eating potatoes after a few weeks."But for Greg there were some benefits that he hadn't expected. "I've been running and playing on a local basketball team, and I feel like I'm playing as well as I did when I was in high school."And Greg has gotten a lot of attention, much more than he expected. "It's been fantastic. Thousands of people have read my blog. I have been sharing recipes and talking about the experience. Every day I get to tell people what a great idea it is to eat potatoes."Greg is glad to be back to a normal diet, but he still eats potatoes at least 5 or 6 times a week. A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off—if it is milked from a cow at night.Researchers have discovere d that “night milk” contains more melatonin(褪⿊激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety. The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night. Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer. While the effect of cows milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night.Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium content, which helps people to relax.Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.1.According to the text, the mice fed with daytime milk_______.A.started sleep more easilyB.were more anxiousC.were less activeD.woke up later2.Which of the following is true of melatonin according to the text?A.It's been tested on mice for ten yearsB.It can make people more energeticC.It exists in milk in great amountD.It's used in sleeping drugs3.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Night Milk and SleepB.Fat Sugar and HealthC.An Experiment on Mice/doc/1593aa85541810a6f524ccbff121dd36a22dc45c.html k Drinking and Health4.How does the author support the theme of the text?A.By giving examples.B.By stating arguments.C.By explaining statistical data.D.By providing research results.4. Around the world, eggs have been a breakfast staple(重要部分)for all good reasons. After all, an egg is a storehouse of vital nutrients, making it an essential part of a healthy diet. And for those of you who are afraid of having this power food because you're worried that it will add to your weight, remember, one egg contains about 80 calories and about five grams of fat. Hence, smart consumption is a far healthier option.Eggs are a well-known rich source of protein —an important building block of bones, muscles, skin, and blood. The bodyuses protein to build and repair tissues as well as making other body chemicals. Unfortunately, unlike fat and carbohydrates(碳⽔化合物), the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply. Thus eggs are the perfect sources and a smart food choice for those who reduce their intake of carbohydrates in a bit to lose extra weight.Another important nutrient you'll find abundantly in egg white is riboflavin or Vitamin B2. And for all of you wondering what's the benefit of this nutrient, Riboflavin is a water-soluble(⽔溶性) vitamin which is involved in vital processes in the body and is necessary for normal cell function, growth, and energy production. The yolk, which many of us avoid out of fear, is actually a very healthy food, if consumed in moderation(适度). Mainly fat, the yolk contains 1.33 gm of cholesterol(胆固醇) per 100 gms and is a rich source of vitamin A, B vitamins, calcium, phosphorous(磷) and iron. Incidentally, the iron found in the yolk is easily digested in the body. According to nutrition experts, one can eat one whole egg every day without harming one's cholesterol and other blood-fat levels. But for those who crave for more eggs, you can reduce fat by having one whole egg and the whites of the rest of the eggs.1.Eggs are regarded as important in breakfast because _______A.it is a custom to have eggs in the breakfast.B.they are sold at a low price.C.they are high in calories and low in fat.D.they can provide people with many nutrients.2.When our body is short of protein, we may _______A.feel tired and sleepy.B.feel discomfort in our legs.C.get tired of eating eggs.D.be eager for other chemicals.3.Which of the following is true about protein?A.It can’t be stored in the body.B.Fat can be changed into protein.C.It is a kind of carbohydrate.D.Our body can only get protein from eggs.4.We can infer from the last paragraph that _______A.the author suggests we only eat the whites of eggs.B.eating enough yolk can reduce cholesterol in the body.C.iron and phosphorous in the yolk are difficult to digest.D.high blood-fat level can do harm to our health5. Chocolate is good for your heart, skin and /doc/1593aa85541810a6f524ccbff121dd36a22dc45c.html ually, people think that chocolate is bad for their health. They describe chocolate as“something to die for”or say“death by chocolate”.Now they should bite thei tongues!Evidence is showing that some kinds of chocolate are actually good for you in the following ways:A happier heartScientists at Harvard University recently examined 136 studies on cocoa—the main ingredient in chocolate—and found that it does seem to strengthen the heart.Studies have shown heart benefits from increased blood flow. These benefits are the result of cocoa’s chemicals, which seem to prevent both cell damage and inflammation(炎症).Better blood pressureIf yours is high, chocolate may help.Jeffrey Blumberg from Tufts University recently found that people with high blood pressure who ate 3.5 ounces of dark chocolate per day for two weeks saw their blood pressure drop quickly.Muscle magicChocolate milk may help you recover after a hard workout (锻炼).In a small study at Indiana University, people who drank chocolate milk between workouts did better on a tiredness test than those who had some sports drinks.Better for your skinGerman researchers gave 24 women a half c up of special cocoa every day. After three months, the women’s skin was m oister (滑润的) and smoother. The research shows that chocolate helps protect and increase blood flow to the skin, improving its appearance.Brain gainsIt sounds almost too good to be true, but research suggests that chocolate may improve your memory, attention span, reaction time, and problem-solving skills by increasing blood flow to the brain.1.What’s the meaning of the underlined phrase “bite their tongues” in the first paragraph?A.Stop talking.B.Speak up.C.Think of it.D.Listen to it.2.What can’t we get from chocolate according to the text?A.A healthy heart.B.Smooth skin.C.A good mood.D.A beautiful figure.3.What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence in the fourth paragraph?A.Sports drinks are better than chocolate milk.B.Sports drinks can make people easy to be tired.C.Drinking milk can keep you energetic at work.D.We should drink chocolate milk between times when we work hard.4.What’s the best title for this passage?A.Chocolate,a Healthy FoodB.More Chocolate,Less HealthC.Chocolate and Blood PressureD.Advice on Eating Chocolate6 The common cold is the world’s most widespread illness, which is plagues(疫病) that flesh receives. The most widespread fallacy(谬误) of all is that colds caused by cold. They are not. They are caused by viruses(病毒) passing on from person to person. You catch a cold by coming into contact, directly or indirectly, with someone who already has one. If cold causes colds, it would be reasonable to expect the Eskimos to suffer from them forever. But they do not. And in isolated arctic regions explorers have reported being free from colds until coming into contact again with infected people from the outside world by way of packages and mail dropped from airplanes.During the First World War soldiers who spent long periods in the trenches(战壕), cold and wet, showed no increased tendency to catch colds. In the Second World War prisoners at the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp(奥斯维⾟集中营), naked and starving, were astonished to find that they seldom had colds. At the Common Cold Research Unit in England, volunteers took part in Experiments in which they gave themselves to the discomforts of being cold and wet for long stretches of time. After taking hot baths, they put on bathing suits, allowed themselves to be with cold water, and then stood about dripping wet in drafty room. Some wore wet socks all day while others exercised in the rain until close to exhaustion. Not one of the volunteers came down with a cold unless a cold virus was actually dropped in his nose. If, then, cold and wet have nothing to do with catching colds, why are they more frequent in the winter?Despite the most pains-taking research, no one has yet found the answer. One explanation offered by scientists is that people tend to stay together indoors more in cold weather than at other times, and this makes it easier for cold viruses to be passed on.No one has yet found a cure for the cold. There are drugs and pain suppressors(⽌痛⽚) such as aspirin, but all they do is relieve the symptoms(症状).1.The writer offered _______ examples to support his argument.A.4B.5C.6D.32.Which of the following does not agree with the chosen passage?A.The Eskimos do not suffer from colds all the time.B.Colds are not caused by cold.C.People suffer from colds just because they like to stay indoors.D.A person may catch a cold by touching someone who already has one.3.Arctic explorers may catch colds when _______.A.they are working in the isolated arctic regionB.they are writing reports in terribly cold weatherC.they are free from work in the isolated arctic regionsD.they are coming into touch again with the outside world4.Volunteers taking part in the experiments in the Common Cold Research Unit _______.A.suffered a lotB.never caught coldsC.often caught coldsD.became very strong5.The passage mainly discusses _______.A.the experiments on the common colB.the fallacy about the common coldC.the reason and the way people catch coldsD.the continued spread of common colds7. As millions of Americans crowd into the gym armed with Ne w Year’s resolutions to get in shape, medical experts are offering an additional reason for exercise: Regular workouts may help fight off colds and flu, reduce the risk of certain cancers and chronic diseases and slow the process of aging.Physical activities have long been known to help maintain a healthy weight and reduce stress. Now, a growing body of research is showing that regular exercise—as simple as a brisk 30-to-45-minute walk five times a week—can boost the body’s immune system, increasing th e circulation of natural killer cells that fight off viruses and bacteria. And exercise has been shown to improve the body’s response to the influenza vaccine (疫苗), making it more effective at keeping the virus at bay.Medical experts warn inactivity poses as great a health risk as smoking, resulting in heart disease, cancer, depression, and diabetes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says quite a few U.S. adults do not engage in any leisure-time physical activity.Even slim people who are inactive are at high risk of death and disease. So while reducing obesity is an important goal, “the better message would be to get everyone to walk 30 minutes a day” says Robert Sallis, co-director of sports medicine at Fontana Medical Center. “We fin d it necessary to refocus the national message on physical activity, which can have a bigger effect on health than losing weight.”Regular exercise has been shown to prevent the ongoing damage done to cells, tissues and organs that underlies many chronic conditions. Building on thatearlier research, scientific studies are now suggesting that exercise-induced changes in the body’s immune system may protect against some forms of cancer.Researchers are also investigating whether exercise can influence aging in the body. In particular, they are looking at whether exercise lengthens telomeres, the strands of DNA at the tips of chromosomes. When telomeres get too short, cells can no longer divide and they become inactive, a process associated with aging, cancer and a higher risk of death.A study, published in Circulation, the medical journal of the American Heart Association, concluded that physical activity has an anti-aging effect at the cellular level, suggesting exercise could prevent aging of the cardiovascular(⼼脑⾎管) system. The guidelines, developed by the Department of Health and Human Services, recommend that adults get at least two hours and 30 minutes weekly ofmoderate-intensity aerobic(有氧的) physical activity, or one hour and 15 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise, or an equivalent combination of both. The guidelines also say that additional health benefits can be obtained from as much as doubling the minimum recommendation for aerobic exercise.1.What is the main purpose of many Americans who take exercise?A.To have a good figureB.To make them strong-mindedC.To cure some common diseasesD.To prevent themselves getting old2.It can be inferred from the passage that __________.A.natural killer cells strengthen the bo dy’s immune systemB.regular exercise can remove the viruses and bacteriaC.obesity has become a social problem in AmericaD.American people need to attach more importance to physical exercise3.How can physical activity stop aging?A.By preventing cell divisionB.By getting rid of aging cellsC.By making telomeres longerD.By repairing the damaged organs4.What might be the best title for the passage?A.New Studies about Physical ExerciseB.The Hidden Benefits of ExerciseC.How to Free Ourselves from Diseases?D.Lose Weight or Keep Healthy?8. The spread of Western eating habits around the world is bad for human health and the environment. These findings come from a new report in the journal Nature.David Tillman, a professor of ecology at the University of Minnesota,America, examined information from 100 countries to identify what people ate and how diet affected health. He noted a movement beginning in the 1960s. He found that as nations industrialized, population increased and earnings rose, more people began to adopt what has been called the Western diet. The Western diet is high in sugar, fat, oil and meat. By eating these foods, people began to get fatter and sicker. David Tillman says overweight people are at greater risk of non-infectious diseases like diabetes (糖尿病)and heart disease. Unfortunately, when people become industrialized, if they adopt this Western diet, they are going to have these health problems, especially in developing countries in Asia.Chinais an example where the number of diabetes cases has been jumping from less than one percent to 10 percent of the population as it began to industrialize over a 20-year period. And that is happening all across the world, in Nigeriaand so on.And,a diet bad for human beings is also bad for the environment. As the world’s population grows, more forests and tropical areas will become farmland for crops or grasslands for cattle. We are likely to have more greenhouse gas in the future from agriculture than that coming out of all forms of transportation right now.Mr. Tillman calls the link between diet, the environment and human health, “a dilemma”,a problem offering a difficult choice. He says one possible solution is leaving the Western diet behind.1.David Tillman believes that _______.A.diet, the environment and human health are closely connectedB.the Western diet is the only choice as nations industrializedC.people in tropical areas are more likely to have heart diseaseD.traditional diet is more balanced than the Western diet2.According to the passage, more greenhouse gas might be given off in the future from _______.A.transportationB.developing countriesC.agricultureD.developed countries3.What can be inferred from the passage?A.Nigeria has the largest number of diabetes cases.B.Overweight people are at higher risk of infectious diseases.C.The examined information comes from developing countries.D.Industrialization contributes to the spread of the Western diet.4.What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text?A.Call on us to protect the environment.B.Warn us of the danger of the Western diet.C.Remind us of the importance of health.D.Advise us to have a balanced diet.9.Healthy Habits,Healthy BodyFeel tired lately? Many television companies have used sports to attract viewers from particular sections of the general public, and then they have sold audiences to advertisers. An attraction of sport programs for the major U.S. media companies is that events are often held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons – the slowest time periods of the week for general television viewing. Sport events are the most popular weekend programs, especially among male viewers who may not watch much television at other times during the week. This means the television networks are able to sell advertising time at relatively high prices during what normally would be dead time for programming.Media corporations also use sports to attract commercial sponsors that might take their advertising dollars elsewhere if television stations did not report certain sports. The people in the advertising departments of major corporations realize that sports attract male viewers. They also realize that most business travelers are men and that many men make family decisions on the purchases of computers, cars and life insurance.Golf and tennis are special cases for television programming. These sports attract few viewers, and the ratings (收视率) are unusually low. However, the audience for these sports is attractive to certain advertisers. It is made up of people from the highest income groups in the United States, including many lawyers and business managers, This is why television reporting of golf and tennis is sponsored by companies selling high-priced cars, business and personal computers, and holiday trips. This is also why the networks continue to carry there programs regardless of low ratings. Advertisers are willing to pay high fees to reach high-income consumers and those managers who make decisions to buy thousands of “company cars”and computers. With such viewers, these programs don’t need high ratings to stay on the air.41. Television sport programs on weekend afternoons ________.A. result in more sport eventsB. get more viewers to play sportsC. make more people interested in televisionD. bring more money to the television networks42. Why would weekend afternoons become dead time without sport programs?A. Because there would be few viewers.B. Because the advertisers would be off work.C. Because television programs would go slowly.D. Because viewers would pay less for watching television.43. In many families, men make decisions on ________.A. holiday tripsB. sports viewingC. televisions shoppingD. expensive purchases44. The ratings are not important for golf and tennis programs because ________.A. their advertisers are carmakersB. their viewers are attracted by sportsC. their advertisers target at rich peopleD. their viewers can afford expensive cars45. What is the passage mainly about?A. Television ratings are determined by male viewers.B. Rich viewers contribute most to television companies.C. Sports are gaining importance in advertising on television.D. Commercial advertisers are the major sponsors of sport events.【难度】一般链接2 .(2012江苏卷)Medical drugs sometimes cause more damage than they cure. One solution to this problem is to put the drugs inside a capsule, protecting them from the body—and the body from them—until they can be released at just the right spot. There are lots of ways to trigger(引发) this release, including changing temperature, acidity, and so on. But triggers can come with their own risks—burns, for example. Now, researchers in California have designed what could be a harmless trigger to date: shiningnear-infrared light (NIR,近红外线) on the drug in the capsule. The idea of using light to liberate the drug in the capsule isn't new. Researchers around the globe have developed polymers (聚合物) and other materials that begin to break down when they absorb cither ultraviolet (UV,紫外线) or visible light. But tissues also readily absorb UV and visible light, which means the drug release can be triggered only near the skin, where the light can reach the capsule. NIR light largely passes through tissues, so researchers have tried to use it as a trigger. But few compounds(化合物) absorb NIR well and go through chemical changes. That changed last year when Adah Almutairi, a chemist at the University of California, San Diego, reported that she and her colleagues had designed a polymer that breaks down when it absorbs NIR light. Their polymer used a commercially available NIR-absorbing group called o-nitrobenzyl (ONB). When they catch the light, ONB groups fall off the polymer, leading to its breakdown. But ONB is only a so-so NIR absorber, and it could be poisonous to cells when it separates from the polymer. So Almutairi and her colleagues reported creating a new material for capsules that's even better. This one consists of a long chain of compounds called cresol groups linked in a polymer. Cresol contains reactive(易反应的) components that make it highly unstable in its polymeric form, a feature Almutairi and her colleagues use to their advantage. After polymerizing the cresols, they cap each reactive component with a light-absorbing compound called Bhc. When the Bhcs absorb NIR light, the reactive groups are exposed and break the long polymer into two short chains. Shining additional light continues this breakdown, potentially releasing any drugs in the capsule. What's more, Almutairi says, Bhc is 10 times better at absorbing NIR than is ONB and is not poisonous to cells.63. According to the passage, which of the following could be the best trigger?A. Temperature change.B. NIR light.C. Acidity change.D. UV light.64. Why in ONB unsatisfactory?A. It breaks down when it absorbs NIR light.B. It falls off the polymer and triggers drug release.C. It has not come onto the market up till now.D. It is not effective enough and could be poisonous.65. Which word can be used to complete the following process of changes?A. ProtectedB. formedC. exposedD. combined【考点】科技问—说明文【文章大意】。
