《了不起的`盖茨比》英语读后感1I dont know how long I havent read the original English book.I finally finished reading the Great Gatsby at the end of 20xx. So write down a little personal feeling of reading. In this book, the author narrates the story in the first person voice and tells Gatsbys short life story. He used a "marvelous" modifier, which is a more life-style name. From the perspective of English, "the great" is very well used. Its a great experience to transform from a poor household of unknown origin into a rich man. But the luxury of material in his eyes, are not as important as Daisy. Party constantly, the reception of people who do not know, experience everything, just to be close to her. Mingming is very close to each other, but it seems very far away.Gatsby is a nostalgic person. He thinks that he can go back to the past five years later and live a happy life with Daisys old mirror. However, he overestimates Daisys love for himself. He thinks that she can be happy only when she is with him. In fact, she loves him, but she loves herself more. Gatsby thought that Daisy was too perfect, too idealistic, for fear that she would receive little harm, just like all the people in love, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and all the shortcomings are advantages. Gatsby, it seems, did not see any shortcomings, only perfect, completely immersed in his own imagination, unable to extricate himself. Love is consistent to this point, so great love, ordinary people cant do it!Daisy is lucky to be betrayed by her husband Tom, full of insecurity and emptiness. Gatsbys appearance, only for her one person, loves her so deeply, in her luxurious tedious life, ignited the spark. However, meeting Gatsby again is more stimulated by Gatsbys rich and luxurious life. Suppose that Gatsby reappears in her life as a poor person, whether she would like to see him more or have more intersections. She is used to the life of a lady, but also the ideological snobbery, the concept of the rich formed from childhood. Although Gatsby is rich, she seems to be an upstart after all. She cant stand afew words of Toms instigation, and the hereditary rich family is more popular with her. Even if Tom betrayed her, she still chose to live with him and dare not step out of the original life circle. When seeing the palm extended by gates to the Daisys house on the other side, when seeing Gatsby as nervous and excited as a child because Daisy is going to Nicks house for afternoon tea, when Gatsby let Daisy say she doesnt love Tom in New York, Daisys indecision and Toms slander of Gatsby, Daisy begged Tom to take her home, and he really sympathized with Gatsby. He loves too humble, in this relationship into too much, can not extricate themselves, stubborn and stubborn. Think of Daisy more than your life. After Daisy accidentally bumped Toms mistress to death, he just waited outside Daisys house to make sure she was safe. His good friend Nick asked him to leave. He had to wait for Daisys phone call, but it was Wilsons shot. But Tom and Daisy still left, when nothing happened, cold and heartless.Gatsbys death may be a better ending, with his dedication to Daisy. Otherwise, its hard to imagine what his life would be like without daisy. In this way, to keep a perfect image in the readers mind for a long time, to imagine each other and toexpect love.I dont want to mention Gatsbys indifference and depression after his death. Only Nick as a spectators final evaluation is the most touching. In his last chat with Gatsby, the sentence "they are rotten crowd, youre worth the whole damn bunch put together" that he left left gave Gatsby a warm feeling in his lonely love seeking life. I was very moved to see it. Gatsbys greatness was recognized and resonated with readers.Such a dedicated and lovely Great Gatsby is believed to be the dream partner in the hearts of all girls. Its enough to have such a person in life. Finally, a picture of Leonardos Gatsby will be posted. If you are interested, you can see the movie.《了不起的盖茨比》英语读后感2The Great Gatsby is a short story published by Francis Scott kifitzgerald in 1925. At the end of the 20th century, the American academic authority selected one hundred of the best novels among the hundred years of English literature. The Great Gatsby ranks the second in the list of Contemporary Classics. The appearance of this novel established Feis position in the history of modern American literature, and was hailed as the symbol of the American jazz age and one of the representative writers of the lost generation. The Great Gatsby is set in the upper class white circle of American society in the 1920s. It is composed of everything I see, experience and feel in the first person. I, Nick, a small poor employee, lived next to the rich man Gatsby, and accidentally broke into the paper addicted upper class society. In the atmosphere of singing and drinking, I was surprised to find the huge secret hidden in Gatsbys heart. No one knows how Gatsby succeeded, how Gatsby became rich, or even how Gatsby looked. But no one does not know Gatsbys name and the banquet he held. Gatsbys heart is to repeat the past and recover the past, his favorite woman in his life daisy. Daisy and millionaire Tom have been married, but unfortunately, her husband has an affair. When the two meet again five years later, Gatsby may still be Romeo, while Daisy is no longer Juliet. Gatsbys stubborn pursuit of heart yearning, but reality has shattered his illusory and almost naive dream with a cold attitude. The author describes a vivid Gatsby for us from the perspective of the third party with a cool and warm style of description of Impressionism, outlines a nearly perfect and accessible dream for us, and provides us with an opportunity to witness the envy of the upper class society, but mercilesslybreaks the charm of the people in front of us with a determined attitude The colorful heart, the end of the story, the coldness of Gatsbys funeral and the noise of the banquet, Gatsbys ardent persistence and Daisys indifference have formed a strong contrast. Although reality has broken the dream, it also makes the living see the hypocrisy and indifference of reality.《了不起的盖茨比》英语读后感3Recently, I just finished reading the Great Gatsby book, and I feel a lot of emotion, because he is not only talking about dreams, society, but also human nature. In the era of everyones pursuit of the "American Dream", a person with a dream to resist seems to have touched heaven for a time, but ultimately defeated fate. When people fall, they end up. The American version of "seeing him rise from Zhulou, seeing his banquet guests, seeing his building collapse".After Gatsbys death, there was no one willing to take care of his affairs or even come to the funeral to send him to the last leg, which was in sharp contrast to the bustling scene of the party in his villa. Maybe you think you cant get anything from this person here, but will you be involved? How sad. Hypocritical human feelings and collective silence are commonfaults of human nature? His former friend said, "we should understand that when we talk about friendship, we should talk about it when we are alive, and when we are dead, there will be no friendship."Compared with what I get from others, maybe I value my conscience more. But in the Great Gatsby, each full of independent human nature is the real human nature of the world. To understand the world, we must first understand human nature. This book is already a good revelation of human nature.I often think of Carnegies weakness in human nature, the whole description of human nature. Say: human being is a high-level animal. In his nature, he is greedy, hateful, and infatuated with all kinds of desires, which is hard to fill, so the world suffers a lot. Just like many middle-aged people nowadays, there are old people and small people, and they still need to pay back the house loan in the middle. They dare not leave their jobs and do not dare to make any changes. There are layers of mountains on their bodies. They cant breathe. The burden is too heavy and they cant take off. After all, human beings are still social animals. They are in a complex social relationship. Its too difficult to be indifferent. They canonly compromise.Born to be human is born to die. Human nature cant stand the test and scrutiny. All of them are the same. Human nature is not worth it, and human life is not worth it. So dont hold too much hope, think about what you want and do what you like to do. However, there are often many people who dont know what they like to do and what they want. Its sad.Gatsbys consistent love for Daisy, in any case, takes Daisy as the first. The most outstanding thing is to stay at Daisys house after the car accident and worry that she will be embarrassed by Tom. Gatsby recognizes his goal and insists on his pursuit in the flashy world. But I have to say that his dream, Daisy, is not worth it. She loves only herself.Maybe it was brainwashed by too many idol dramas and jitangwen before. They have infinite and beautiful reverie and hope for love. They think that there must be someone who loves you as much as love life. But the more they grow up, the more they find out that no, people always love themselves more than others, and they love themselves the most, especially for their little pay. They must be more rewarded than themselves, except for their parents Its funny that when I think about the deep meaning behind it, I dont think its romantic. In fact, I believethere is love in the world, but I just dont believe it will happen to us.However, I am still totally convinced by Gatsbys faithful pursuit of love, even though what he pursues is like the green light that is never accessible, even left behind by him.A lot of life is the process of chasing the green light in his heart. If Gatsby is not so persistent, he will not become Gatsby. This is in line with our real life, and its hard to keep his original mind like Gatsby, even though his dream has been Utopian. In fact, they are very similar to the times we live in. What should we stick to and pursue in our life? I think its worth everyone thinking about their life. The green light of life is often like this. Its the persistence and pure yearning for dreams that support us. When we get close, its not the same thing. But after all, we have tried our best.

The Great GatsbyZhang Chao 2013706031Last week we watched a movie which is named.”The Great Gatsby”, the film gave me a lot of touches in love and American dream. The film is told us the story of Gatsby by Nick’s tone.He rent a small house nearby Gatsby’s luxurious mansion where hold a grand banquet every weekend night. The character Gatsby is overwhelmedby only one thing that he does not possess, that is to be loved.Gatsby and Daisy loved each other when Gatsby was young, but because of Gatsby’s poor family they were broken up.Then Gatsby was joined the First World War.While Daisy was married to Tom who was a rich dandy, but her marriage was not happy because Tom had a mistress. There was a lost love in Gatsby’s deep heart. So he is overlooking the river green light in every night. The green light represents Gatsby’s hopes and dreams for the future.Gatsby’s love for Daisy is real and strong, and he can do everything to win Daisy. So he spent much money to hold the big party in order to attract Daisy’s attention. But in the end Daisy chose her husband not Gatsby.Because her husbandis so rich that he can do everything he likes and he can also offer Daisy a better life, and finally wins Daisy’s love. The end of story is a tragedy that Daisy goes together with her husband to another city happily while Gatsby is murdered mistakenly.People think that the American dream offers faith in the possibility of a better life , its attendant illusion is the belief that material wealth alone can bring that dream to fruition. As for Gatsby, the symbol of his final American Dream is to win the loveof pared with them, Gatsby is the only hero living in the impulsive society. Please remember that material gain is only a fruit of freedom, not its root.第二篇:《了不起的盖茨比》观后感观《了不起的盖茨比》有感主人公詹姆斯·盖茨本是北达科他州的一个贫穷的农家子弟,自幼梦想做个出人头地的大人物。
Money Is The Root of All DevilsThe Great Gatsby, which written by F .Scott. Fitzgerald, tells a love tragedy between Gatsby and Daisy in the 1920s in America. They loved each other at first, but Daisy was reluctant to marry him simply because he was poor. She married a rich man, Tom, who had a mistress. However,Gatsby could never forget Daisy , he had been fighting for money even by making illegal deals. When he became rich and has his own regal mansion, he met Daisy again and asked her to be with him. Clinging to Tom’s social status and luxury life, Daisy refused. One day, Tom’s mistress was killed by Daisy when she was driving home in Gatsby’s car. In order to protect Daisy, Gatsby was going to undertake the accident. Unfortunately, Tom killed him indirectly by telling Mr. Wilson (the husband of Tom’s mistress) that the car which killed his wife was Gatsby’s. Finally, Gatsby was killed by Mr. Wilson. What impresses me most in the book is money. In the 1920s in America, it was a money-oriented society; the rich were always arrogant and looked down on the poor. There was a wide gap between the rich and the poor. According to the passage, we can know that the houses of the rich were as grand as a palace, while the poor were homeless. Believing that as long as being rich and successful, he can repeat the past with Daisy, Gatsby struggled for money, became a bootlegger. But what a pity, though as charming Daisy was, she was ordinary whose mouth was full of money. As the author said, Tom and Daisy were careless people, they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money.Money is the root of all devils. In the book, Daisy is one of the examples that was blacked by money. Five years ago, Daisy was a pure girl. At that time, she had never cared about Gatsby’s possession or his position. However, the society was realistic. It was like a burin that reshaped Daisy as she said “I’ve been everywhere and seen everything and done everything. I’m sophisticated.” Actually I think, Daisy still loved Gatsby because she was unhappy, crying and drinking before her wedding had held. Although she was sad, she gave in to a string of pearls valued at﹩350,000 which was given by Tom. Daisy was no longer what she used to be, though she liked wearing white dress. It didn’t represent purity but coldness. As Nick said “As if she had asserted her membership in a rather distinguished secret society to which she and Tom belonged.”She needed money. Only money could give her sense of security. Therefore after she killed Mrs. Wilson, she would rather betray Gatsby, making him a scapegoat and left to Europe with Tom. Deeply speaking, except money, everything was nothing to her even her daughter. From the book, we can know that she treatedher daughter coldly.Finishing the book, I think of our present society. In some dating programs, some girls are called “materialgirl” which means money is priority. Similar to Daisy, they would rather cry in a BMW than smile on a bike. A car, a house and a good occupation are their standard when choosing a husband. In my opinion, such a twisty value leads to an unhealthy development of our society.Shakespeare in his play Timon of Athens says, “Yellow, glittering, precious gold, thus much of this will make black white, foul fair , wrong right , base noble …”. With the development of economy, it seems our society is similar to the one in America in the twentieth century, being material wealth. Nowadays, many people, as the American in the twentieth century did, are in pursuit of money. Corruption, gambling and murder are showing frequently, which lead to family break and death.Money is evil, covering your eyes, blacking your heart, making you crazy. Money is like a sea, drowning moral and truth.Money is a must but not all in our lives, please hold your conscience when you struggle for money. In a word, we should have a proper attitude toward money, or the tragedy like Gatsby will go on.。
——After reading the Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, who was one of the most important representatives of the “Jazz Age”, in American history, maybe it “was the best of times, it was the worst of times, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way”.As the title says: the great Gatsby, but why is Gatsby great? In my point of view, there are two reasons:Firstly, Gatsby was born in a very poor family, but he get a lot of wealth rely on his own efforts, which is different from Daisy’s husband, Tom, who was born in a rich high class and don’t need to worry about earning money. The second one is that when Gatsby decide to earn a lot of money, the reason was simple. He just want to get Daisy’s love again. The main reason why Daisy marry Tom but not Gatsby is that Gatsby was just a poor young man which didn’t suits Daisy’s statue. Later, the big house right opposite Daisy’s, those big parties, they are all be made to attract Daisy’s attention. So just for love, this simple reason ,Gatsby changed into an upper class’s rich people. The author spend a lot of time to describe the wealthy and extravagant life of those people. Irrespective of which class they belong to, all of them worships money, they also believe that money will makelife better. Daisy and Tom belongs to the high class, money completely assimilated of the upstart but extreme exclusion and despised. Gatsby don't understand this truth, his inflexible pursuit of wealth, thinks that he can regain the ideal embodiment of Daisy, even if he got the material met, he still cannot escape spiritual loneliness and sorrow.Gatsby's dream is typical of the American Dream. His struggle reflects the Americans respect of tough, independent, and upward spirit. His failure declared the postwar American spirit of decadence and decline. Material civilization height prosperity bring people's hearts deserted and distortion, the hidden appearance enjoy carnival huge spiritual emptiness and confusion, pain of the whole social spiritual loss, but no way out.。

人教版高中英语必修二第五单元作文的范文全文共10篇示例,供读者参考篇1Hello everyone, today I want to talk about the fifth unit of the second volume of the high school English textbook. This unit is all about culture shock and the differences between Eastern and Western cultures. It's super interesting!First of all, let's talk about what culture shock is. It's like when you go to another country and things are so different from what you're used to that you feel confused or even shocked. For example, in some countries, people eat with chopsticks instead of forks and knives. That would be so strange for me!In the unit, we also learned about the differences in communication styles between Eastern and Western cultures. In Western cultures, people are more direct and may say exactly what they mean. But in Eastern cultures, people may be more indirect and use hints or body language to express themselves. It's cool to learn about these differences because it helps us understand and appreciate other cultures.Overall, I really enjoyed learning about culture shock and the differences between Eastern and Western cultures in this unit. It's important to be open-minded and respectful of other cultures, even if they are different from our own. I can't wait to learn more about different cultures in the future! Thank you for listening to my summary of the unit, and I hope you enjoyed it too. Bye!篇2Title: My Adventure in The Great GatsbyOh my goodness, guys! Let me sum up the story for you.So, there's this guy named Jay Gatsby, and he's super rich and throws these crazy parties at his mansion. But he's in love with this girl named Daisy, who's married to another guy named Tom. Drama, right? Jay Gatsby tries really hard to win Daisy's heart back, but things don't go as planned. There's also this other girl named Jordan, who's friends with Daisy and kind of flirts with our main character, Nick. Nick's like the narrator of the story, and he's super cool and down-to-earth.Throughout the book, we see how money and love can mess things up for people and how everyone is trying to be someone they're not. It's a wild ride, let me tell you! After reading The Great Gatsby, I learned a lot about the 1920s and how society was back then. It's crazy to think that people cared so much about money and reputation. It really makes you appreciate what you have and the people who truly care about you.So, if you're looking for a book that's full of drama, love, and a bit of mystery, then The Great Gatsby is definitely the one for you. It's all about the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution was a really big deal because it changed the way people worked and lived. Before the Industrial Revolution, people did a lot of manual labor and things were made by hand. But then, machines were invented that could do the work faster and better. This changed everything! One of the key inventions of the Industrial Revolution was the steam engine. It made it possible for machines to run on their own power, without needing people to turn them. This led to the growth of factories and the mass production of goods. It also led to the rise of cities and a new way of life for many people.Another important aspect of the Industrial Revolution was the impact on society. There were big changes in the way people worked and where they lived. Many people moved from the countryside to the cities to find work in the factories. This led to overcrowding and poor living conditions for many people.Overall, the Industrial Revolution had a huge impact on society and the way we live today. It's really interesting to learn about how it all started and how it changed the world. I hope you enjoyed hearing about it as much as I enjoyed telling you!篇5Hiiii! Today I wanna tell you about the English essay I wrote for my high school class. The topic was all about how technology makes our lives easier. Omg, I was so excited to write this one because I love using my phone and computer all the time! So, in my essay, I talked about how we can do so many things with technology like chatting with friends, watching videos, and even doing homework online. I remember mentioning how apps and websites can help us find information super fast and make studying more fun.I also wrote about how technology helps us stay connected with our family and friends, even if they live far away. I love using video calls to talk to my grandma and she always tells me how happy she is to see my face on the screen.I ended my essay by saying that although technology is awesome, we still need to find a balance and not spend too much time on our devices. It's important to go outside, play sports, and hang out with friends in real life too.I got a good grade on my essay and my teacher said I did a great job explaining my ideas. I'm so proud of myself and can't wait to write more essays in the future! Yayyy for technology!篇6Title: My Thoughts on Nature ConservationHi everyone! Today I want to talk about nature conservation. In our English class, we have learned about how important it is toprotect the environment. I think it's super important to take care of nature because it gives us so many good things like clean air, fresh water, and beautiful landscapes. One way we can help protect nature is by reducing, reusing, and recycling. We can use less plastic and paper, and instead, bring our own reusable bags and bottles. We should also recycle things like cans and bottles instead of throwing them away.Another way to help nature is by planting trees and flowers. Trees give us oxygen and help clean the air. Flowers provide food for bees and butterflies. We can also pick up trash when we see it on the ground to keep our environment clean.I also think it's important to learn more about animals and how we can protect them. Some animals are endangered, which means they are in danger of disappearing forever. We should try to help them by not destroying their habitats and by not hunting them.In conclusion, nature is amazing and we should do our best to protect it. Let's work together to make the world a better place for all living things. Thank you for listening to my thoughts on nature conservation!篇7Hello everybody! Today I want to talk about the fifth unit of our high school English book, which is all about culture shock. So, what is culture shock? Well, it's when you go to a new place and feel kind of confused or maybe even uncomfortable because things are so different from what you're used to.I remember when I went on a trip to Japan with my family. At first, I was so excited to see all the cool gadgets and try the delicious food. But then I realized that people there don't really talk to strangers on the street, which is something I'm not used to at all! I felt a bit lonely and misunderstood at first, but then I started to understand that it's just part of their culture. In this unit, we also learned about different ways to deal with culture shock, like keeping an open mind, asking questions, and trying to learn about the new culture. I think these are really important things to remember when we travel to new places or meet people from different backgrounds. So, let's remember to always be respectful and open-minded when we encounter new cultures. Who knows, we might just learn something really cool and make some new friends along the way! That's all for now. Thanks for listening!篇8Hello everyone! BookreviewontheGreatGatsby了不起的盖茨比读后感Book Review on the Great GatsbyI have read the Great Gatsby in this term. The Great Gatsby is a masterpiece written by a famous American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. The book is published and reprinted in “Penguin Classics" 2022年in England. It is a story of the main protagonist, Gatsby, set in the early summer of 1922 in West Egg, Long Island, and told from the perspective of Nick Caraway, Gatsby's friend. After reading the book, I think The Great Gatsby is about Gatsby's shattered dream, a shattered dream of vanity.Gatsby buys a big mansion in the West Egg, across the bay from Daisy's house. He holds luxurious party every week, in order to draw the attention from Daisy, who he had loved since 5 years ago when he was a poor lieutenant. He was asked to leave for World War , but Daisy didn't wait for him and married to Tom Buchanan, a rich aristocrat. Tom has a mistress outside, George Wilson's wife, Myrtle. Nick is Daisy's cousin and Tom's fellowstudent in Yale. Moreover, he is coincidently a neighbor of Gatsby and the one who arranges the date between Gatsby and Daisy, whose love seems to be back again. However, their affair is revealed soon. Daisy chooses to go back to Tom, and Gatsby's dream is over. On the way home, Daisy kills Myrtle in a car accident. Gatsby takes the blame for Daisy and is killed by Myrtle's husband, George Wilson, who is incited by Tom. Up to now, we can see Gatsby's dream is disintegrated. He becomes the victim of others' greed, selfishness, and coldness. As a masterpiece of American "Lost Generation" literature, The Great Gatsby is far not only a story of love. In fact, it encompasses a much larger, less romantic scope about the grand background of times. It concerns about the American era of unprecedented prosperity, the comparison between the newly rich and the old aristocracy, the moral decline of the upper class and so on.Here I want to focus on the profound meaning of this book on the perspective of Gatsby's shattered dream.Five years ago, Gatsby was a poor lieutenant, who fell in love with the aristocratic girl, Daisy. He lied to her that he himself was from a wealthy family so that she would consider him as worthyof her. After the war, Gatsby tries to gain fortune, even by smuggling, to win her back. For Gatsby, Daisy is his dream: beautiful, charming, graceful, that kind of girl of sophistication, wealth, and aristocracy which he values and pursues. Nevertheless, Daisy falls far short of Gatsby's ideals. She is beautiful and charming, but also material, fickle, shallow, bored, and sardonic. Nick characterizes her as a careless person who smashes things up and then retreats behind her money. Later even Gatsby himself realizes her voice is "full of money", though he never gives up his dream of Daisy from beginning to end.The Great Gatsby is a novel about American dream: discovery, individualism, and the pursuit of happiness. But this dream is corrupted in the 1920s, an era which portrayed by Fitzgerald, "decayed social and moral values, cynicism, greed, and empty pursuit of pleasure". Tom and Daisy, and those guests attending Gatsby's parties, the indifferent, and ruthlessness aristocrats all stand for the eroded social aspects. On the opposite side, Gatsby processes moral qualities in novel. He is。

The_Great_Gatsby_英文读后感第一篇:The_Great_Gatsby_英文读后感Book Report of The Great Gatsby 1.About the author.F.Scott Fitzgerald was born in St Paul, Minnesota of mixed Southern and Irish descent. He was given three names after the writer of The Star Spangled Banner, to whom he was distantly related. His father, Edward Fitzgerald, was a salesman, a Southern gentleman, whose furniture business had failed. His greater impact to him was “even if your business has failed,we have to maintain the habit of generous style”.Mary McQuillan, his mother, was the daughter of a successful wholesale grocer, and devoted to her only son.Fitzgerald entered Princeton University in 1913, where he spent most of his time doing social activities. He left his studies in 1917 because of his poor academic records, and took up a commission in the US Army. His experiences during World War I were more peaceful than Hemingway's-he never saw action and even did not go to France. The turning point in his life was when he met Zelda Sayre while he was at one of the bases where he trained in 1918, herself as the daughter of a justice from Alabama Supreme Court and an aspiring writer. He proposed to her but failed as she thought he was just a poor boy.In 1920 appeared Fitzgerald’s first novel, This Side of Paradise. The book gained a success which Fitzgerald celebrated energetically in parties and married Zelda successfully.Zelda danced on people's dinner tables in endless parties to celebrate the immediate success. But that was not to be the ending for the Fitzgerald. They lived in New York City.He drank too much. She spent too much money. He promised himself to live a less costly life.Always, however, he spent more than he earned from writing. In 1925, Fitzgeraldpublished The Great Gatsby, considered great work.Although it initially met with little commercial success, this novel about the American dream of material success has become one of the most popular widely read and critically acclaimed works of fiction in American literature. The life of the title character, Jay Gatsby, has been compared to Fitzgerald’s life. While living in the French Riviera, Zelda’s illness became serious. She suddenly began to practice ballet, dancing night and day. After a second nervous breakdown, she was hospitalized for mental illness in Carolina.During the last years of his life, Fitzgerald lived in Hollywood, earning his living as a screenwriter. He died of heart attack at the age of 45.In 1948, the hospital at which Zelda was a patient caught fire, causing her death.2.Background.The novel takes place following the First World War.At that time, American society enjoyed prosperity during the roaring 1920s as the economy soared. The Great Gatsby is Fitzgerald’s most f amous novel, is widely considered to be a literary classic and a contender for the title “Great American Novel”.The book is consistently ranked among the greatest works of American literature.“Sensitive and symbolic treatment of themes of contemporary life related with irony and pathos to the legendry of the American dream”.The author showed the development and disillusion of American dream to people by means of Gatsby’s story, just as the eyes of Doctor T.J.Eckleburg of the valley of ashes witness the corruption of American society and the disillusion of American dream in that age.It is Fitzgerald’s first novel, also is the most famous one.It is a great novel about the American dream and jazz age, very thoughtful.3.Summary.The Great Gatsby mainly tells of G atsby’s quixotic passion for Daisy Buchanan. They meet five years beforethe novel begins, when Daisy is a legendary young Louisville beauty and Gatsby a poor officer. They fall in love, but while Gatsby serves overseas.Daisy marries the brutal, humiliating, but extremely rich Tom Buchanan.Nick Garaway, the narrator of the story, is a young Mid-westerner who sells bonds in New York.He lives at West Egg, Long Island, which is separated from the city by an ash-dump.His neighbor is Jay Gatsby, who is a mysterious man, whose mansion and fabulous entertainments are financed by bootlegging and other criminal activities. When Gatsby was a poor army officer, he had fallen in love with Daisy, Nick’s beautiful cousin, but later Daisy married Tom Buchanan, who is wealthy but intelligent and brutal. After the war, Gatsby devotes himself blindly to the pursuit of wealth by whatever means available to him with a view to regaining Daisy’s love. However, Daisy is not what she used to be.She is in pursuit of money and social statu s.“Her voice is full of money”, Gatsby says admiringly, in one of the novel’s most famous descriptions. With huge wealth accumulated, Gatsby buys mansion across Long Island from Daisy’s noble East Egg address.Throws generous parties, and waits for Daisy to appear. When she does, events carries up with all the tragic inevitability of a Greed dream. Then with the help of Nick Gatsby tries to win Daisy back with extravagant devotion.Meanwhile Daisy’s husband takes another woman Myrtle Wilson, as his mistress. When Mr.Wilson, a garage man, becomes jealous and imprisons her in the room, Myrtle escapes, runs out on the highway, and accidently hit by Daisy, who drives the car at that moment.Gatsby tries to help Daisy, and Tom tells Wilson that it was Gatsby who kills his wife.Wilson shoots Gatsby and then himself. At the end of the story, Nick thinks over Gatsby’s bream and decides to go backhome to the West.4.Impressions and comments. There is no doubt that The Great Gatsby of Fitzgerald is a great work.It shows the development and disillusion of the American dream by means of Gatsby’s story, poor Gatsby chased his dreams of wealth and romantic love in all his life, but finally failed and lost his life.Although Gatsby failed finally, we have to admit that he is a great m an;Nick has ever said to Gatsby “you are worth the whole damn bunch put together.” He had come a long way to this blue lawn and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it.He did not know that it was already behind him, somewhere back in that vast obscurity beyond the city, where the dark fields of the republic rolled on under the night. The “green light” that Gatsby chased and believed in just is an illusion, he just can’t figure out where is dream world and where is reality world, so he lost in his dreams. The sharp contrast between dream and reality not only explains Gatsby’s failure at the end, it also explains the meaninglessness of that age.In a word, these contrasts provide the readers with a panorama of 1920s.The loss of the American dream reflects the corruption of people’s morality. As far as I am concerned, this story can serve as a reminder for us.To live a meaningful life, we should carefully choose some dreams to pursue. And in the process of fulfilling our dreams, we should always be conscious about what we really desire.Anyhow, only by pursuing the proper dreams can we finally get to the happiness and success.Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us.It eluded us then, but that’s no matter tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther….and one fine morning so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.第二篇:英文读后感篇一:老人与海英文读后感this year summer the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed people's great strength. The novel has portrayed many different people.Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually,Lucie is beautiful and gentle,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty,Miss pross is straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister……The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price. As an outstanding writer,in Dickens's work, the language skill is essential. Each kind of rhetoric technique, like the analogy, the exaggeration, the contrast, the humorous, and the taunt are handled skillfully, and the artistry of the work is alsodelivered the peak.“A tale of two cities” has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes. With the broad real background of the French Revolution, the author take the fictional character Doctor Manette's experience as the main clue, interweaves the unjust charge, love and revenge three independences but also incident cross-correlation stories together, the plot is criss-crossed,and the clue is complex. The author use insert narrates, foreshadowing, upholstery and so many techniques, causes the structure integrity and strictness, the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.the style “A tale of two cities” is solemnity and melancholy, fills indignantion, but lacks the humor of the early works.篇三:飘英文读后感Scarlett , a very personality figures, the two mans she love stories. The tales, which accompany with me in my old days, often make me think of some precious experience and sensation which only belong to children. This summer I'vereview this kind of tale, which was published in 1940.It's the world-famous fairy-tale by the French author, Antoine de St-Exupery, The Little prince. As many other fairy-tales, the outline of The Little prince is not ver y complex.“I”,the narrator of the story, is a pilot whose plane has something wrong and lands in the Sahara. In this occasion, the pilot makes the acquaintance of the little prince, a little boy from another planet, the Asteroid B612.The little prince has escaped from his tiny planet, because he has some quarrel with a rose, which grows on his planet. In that case he left his own planet and took an exploration at some neighbor asteroids. On his all-alone journey, the little prince meets different kinds of people, which includes a king, a conceited man, a tippler, a businessman, a lamplighter and a geographer. From these people he gets a conclusion that the grown-ups are very odd.Following the instruction of the geographer, he descends in the Sahara, on the earth.Traveling on the earth, the little prince, who sees a garden of five-thousand roses, is overcome with astonishment and sadness, as he considers his rose is unique in the universe before. At that time a fox appears. The fox, who tell the little prince about the meaning of the word “tame”,becomes his new friend. At the time to say farewell, the fox makes him know that his rose is unique because she is his rose and tamed by him. From that the little prince begins to treasure friendship and be responsible to his rose.At the anniversary day of his descent of the earth, rejecting the pilot's advice, he goes back to his own planet by bite of a snake.“It's too far.I can not carry this body with me.It's too heavy.” he said.He tells his friend, the pilot, he must be responsible for his rose, so he has to go back.At the end the author doesn't tell us the ending directly.Maybe it's more significant for us to imagine, and for more, think over. One of the important characters is the rose.Growing on the planet, she is very beautiful, but her coquetry and vanity suffer the little prince a lot.In spite of they love each other, he soon becomes unhappy. On the time of his departure, he just knows she certainly loves him.The character of the little prince actually represents the children, and their native thoughts and deeds. On the contrary, the inhabitants on the other planets, such as the king, the businessman and the conceited man, they also reflect the defects in the grown-up's world. The real theme of this fairy-tale with a little sadness, I guess, is the consequence of pure love and friendship in our lives, but not others “matters of consequence” of the grown-ups.Unbelievable, this little book moved me a lot.I seldom think about the true meaning of love and life before.Well, now I can say, with my short sixteen-year's life experience, it's like the stars in the sky that lit my heart. The little prince is not only an ordinary fairy-tale for children, but also for grown-ups, and our teenagers.Nevertheless, when I read this book, I feel a little sad –about ourselves, whom are losing more and more innocence.篇五:傲慢与偏见英文读后感The feeling of 《pride And prejudice》Then man treat great event The Great Gatsby(英文读书报告)The Great GatsbyI Introduction of AuthorThe Great Gatsby is written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, who was born in 1896 and died in 1940. His first novel Earthly Paradise made a hit and he rose to fame. He published the several novels such as Tender is the Night, Paradise, The Last Giant etc. and over 160 short stories, including Benjamin’s Fantasy Trip, Ice Palace, Winter Dream, Sensible and Back to Babylon. On the 81st Oscar Awards ceremony, the film Benjamin Button got three awards, which was adapted from his short story Benjamin’s Fantasy Trip. Tender is the Night and The Great Gatsby are listed in the Top 100 novels of 20 century by the United States Academic Community. And the latter even ranks the second. In 1940 at the age of 44 he died of frustration. After his death, some of his interesting writings were put together into a collection entitled The Crack-Up. The Great Gatsby is considered Fitzgerald’s masterpiece. However in 1925 no one predicted the eminence of the novel in the new century—not even Fitzgerald himself. The story of The Great Gatsby is a good illustration.II Introduction of PlotThe novel was told the story of Gatsby by the narrator Nick. Nick is tired of his hometown’life so that he moves to New York from the Midwest of America. He rents a small house in the suburb that happens tobe next to the Gatsby’s mansion. Five years ago, Gatsby falls in love with a wealthy girl named Daisy, but he is too poor to marry her. When the First World War broke out, Gatsby had to devote himself to the army. Then Daisy is married to a rich young man Tom Buchanan. Determined to win back his lost love, Gatsby has engaged himself in bootlegging and other “shady” activities to make a fortune for the past five years. He buy a mansion just opposite to the Daisy’s house with a river lying in between. Gatsby holds dazzling parties every weekend hoping one day the married Daisy will come. With the help of Nick, the cousin of Daisy, Gatsby meet the Daisy again since five years ago. But now the lady in front of him is no longer what she used to be. She has become a vain, selfish and vulgar woman. Although he knows it, he still clings to the illusion about Daisy. One day, Daisy drives Gatsby’s car after drinking and causes an accident that kills Tom’s mistress. Daisy plots with Tom to shift the blame on Gatsby. Finally Gatsby was shotby the victim’s husband. Only Gatsby’s poor father and Nick attend the funeral. Daisy and Tom were on trip to Europe at that time.III Personal InspirationAfter reading, I always wonder why the Gatsby is “great”. In the view of most people, they must take for that Gatsby is silly for his blind love. He just lives in his memory and his imaginary world, which results in his tragedy. And I do think so. But when I come to realization that 1920s wasnamed after “Jazz” and “Money” era, I change my mind. In such amaterial-driven society, all people are indulged in pleasure and luxurywhile Gatsby is persistent to pursue his sincere love for Daisy. That’smaybe the reason why he is great. One scene in the book that impresses me most is Gatsby stand by thewindow, staring at the green light hung at the clock of Daisy’s houseunder the moonlight. The green light is a symbolism which stands for thedream and hope in Gatsby’s heart. However, the green light is distant anddim which indicates that the dream is bound to be smashed eventually. Gatsby’s self-made experience is so-called “American Dream”. Butunfortunately, the dream broke up at last. It’s not the tragedy of individualbut of the whole society, the fickle world full of material desire. As far as I’m concerned, the author titling the Gatsby “Great” is toarouse the conscience of the whole society to pursue sincerity rather thanthe money. Money is a good thing, but not everything. If you are ferventabout it, money will finally ruin the most valuable things in your life.IV Classical sentences or paragraphs*We continue struggling forward on the counter-current andwas continually pushed back until the return to the pastyears* Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. He was one of the representative writers of the Lost Generation, and also was the poet laureate of the Jazz Age. Fitzgerald was restrained by two things in all his life, one is intelligence; the other one is money, he was ever possess these things, but lost them all in the end. When he dead, reviewers criticized his corrupt life, abandonment and waste his talent. His fictions reflected thedisillusion of the American Dream vividly, and showed the spirit of wilderness era of upper class in the Great Depression. The age, which Fitzgerald possessed extraordinary creativity, was a special time in American history. At that time, the World War 1 was finished, the Great Depression didn’t come, the traditional puritan ethics were destroyed, and the hedonism be gan to be popular. In his own words, “it was an age of miracles, it was an age of art, it was an age of excess, and it was an age of satire.” And Fitzgerald called this age as “Jazz Age”, so he was regarded as the poet laureate of the Jazz Age. He realized the eagerness for romantic of this age observantly, and the emptiness and helplessness back of the surface luxury, and he reflected these feelings in his works. His works always used the eagerness of the young and idealism as themes, because he thought this were Americans’symbol; his works also always referred to the changingand disappointment of sentiments, because this was the fate from which people couldn’t escape of that age. BackgroundThe Great Gatsby is Fitzgerald’s most famous novel, is widely considered to be a literary classic and a contender for the title “Great American Novel”. The book is consistentlyranked among the greatest works of American literature. “Sensitive and symbolic treatment of themes of contemporary life related with irony and pathos to the legendry of the American dream”--. The author showed the development and disillusion of American dream to people by means of Gatsby’s story, just as the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg of the valley of ashes witness the corruption of American society and the disillusion of American dream in that age. It is Fitzgerald’s first novel, also is the most famous one. It is a great novel about the American dream and jazz age, very thoughtful.Plot SummaryThe main events of the novel take place in the summer of 1922. Nick Carraway, a Yale graduate and World War I veteran from the Midwest —who serves as the novel’s narrator —takes a job in New York as a bond salesman. He rents a small house on Long Island, in the village of West Egg, next door to the lavish mansion of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who holds many extravagant parties but does not participate in them. Nick drives around the bay to East Egg for dinner at the home of his cousin, Daisy Buchanan, and her husband, Tom, a college acquaintance of Nick’s. They introduce Nick to Jordan Baker, an attractive, cynical young girl withwhom Nick begins a romanticrelationship. She reveals to Nick that Tom has a mistress, Myrtle Wilson, who lives in the “valley of ashes”: an industrial dumping ground between West Egg and New York City. Not long after this revelation, Nick travels to New York City with Tom and Myrtle to an apartment they keep for their affair. At the apartment, a vulgar and bizarre party ends with Tom breaking Myrtle’s nose after she taunts Tom about Daisy. As the summer progresses, Nick eventually receives an invitation to one of Gatsby’s parties. Nick encounters Jordan Baker at the party, and they meet Gatsby himself, an aloof and surprisingly young man who recognizes Nick from their same division in the war. Through Jordan, Nick later learns that Gatsby knew Daisy from a romantic encounter in 1917 and is deeply in love with her. He spends many nights staring at the green light at the end of her dock, across the bay from his mansion, hoping to one day rekindle their lost romance. Gatsby’s extravagant lifestyle and wild parties are an attempt to impress Daisy in the hopes that she will one day appear again at Gatsby’s doorstep. Gatsby now wants Nick to arrange a reunion between himself and Daisy. Nick invites Daisy to have tea at his house, without telling her that Gatsby will also be there. After an initially awkwardreunion, Gatsby and Daisy reestablish their connection. They begin an affair and, after a short time, Tom grows increasingly suspicious of his wife’s relationship with Gatsby. At a luncheon at the Buchanan’s’ house, Gatsby stares at Daisy with such undisguised passion that Tom realizes Gatsby is in love with her. Though Tom is himself involved in an extramarital affair, he is outraged by his wife’s infidelity. He forces the group to drive into New York City and confronts Gatsby in a suite at the Plaza Hotel, asserting that he and Daisy have a history that Gatsby could never understand. In addition to that, he announces to his wife that Gatsby is a criminal whose fortune comes from bootlegging alcohol and other illegal activities. Daisy realizes that her allegiance is to Tom, and Tom contemptuously sends her back to East Egg with Gatsby, attempting to prove that Gatsby cannot hurt him. When Nick, Jordan and Tom drive through the valley of ashes on their way home, they discover that Gatsby’s car has struck and killed Tom’s mistress, Myrtle. Nick later learns from Gatsby that was Daisy, not Gatsby himself, who driving the car at the time of the accident happened, but Gatsby intends to take the blame anyway. Myrtle’s husband falsely concludes that the driver of the yellow car is the secret lover he recently begansuspecting his wife has, and set out on foot to locate its owner. After finding out the yellow car’s owner is Gatsby, he thought that Gatsby is the person who is his wife’s lover and knocks his wife to death, so he arrives at Gatsby’s mansion shoots him when Gatsby is swimming, and then he kills himself too. Nick stages an unsettlingly small funeral for Gatsby, but nobody attends. Finally Nick feels disappoint to the ugly society and moves back to the Midwest to escape the disgust for the people surrounding Gatsby’s life and for the emptiness and moral decay of life among the wealthy on the east coast. Nick reflects that just as Gatsby’s dream of Daisy was corrupted by money and hypocrisy, the American dream of happiness and individualism has disintegrated into the mere pursuit of wealth. Though Gatsby’s power to transform his dream into reality is what makes him “great”, Nick reflects that the era of dreaming—both Gatsby’s dream and the American dream—is over.ThemeThe Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream.Sarah Churchwell sees The Great Gatsby as a “cautionary tale of the decadent downside of the American dream.” The story deals with human aspiration to start over again, social politics and its brutality and also betrayal, of one’s own ideals and of people. Using elements of irony and tragic ending, it also delves into themes of excesses of the rich, and recklessness of youth. According to Fitzgerald’s own experiences and concepts, he modeled the figure—Gatsby in his book The Great Gatsby successfully, a man who lived in the dream all his life. Gatsby would rather live in the dream than go back to the reality, finally the dream ended and he also died. The author used Gatsby’s story to reflect big problems of the society successfully at that time, the hypocrisy of the upper class, the evil of money, the morbidity of social situation, the illusion of the American Dream and the sorrow of the Jazz Age. It is not difficult tofind out that Gatsby’s tragic fate has double meanings; he is not only the reflection of conflicts between illusion and reality but also the typical representative of the American Dream. Gatsby’s death represented the disillusion of the American Dream. And Daisy is the typical representative of decadent and corrupt upper class. We can see the selfishness and indifference of humanity from the book, and decadent social situation at thattime. The narrator Nick is a bystander, but he is not one of these decadent members. He told this story by his perspective, at the end of the story, he saw clearly about the corruption, decadence of the society and the fickleness of humanity, so he started his way to mid-western.ConclusionThere is no doubt that The Great Gatsby of Fitzgerald is a great work. It shows the development and disillusionof the American dream by means of Gatsby’s story, poor Gatsby chased his dreams of wealth and romantic love in all his life, but finally failed and lost his life. Although Gatsby failed finally, we have to admit that he is a great man; Nick has ever said to Gatsby “you are worth the whole damn bunch put together.” He had come a long way to this blue lawn and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it. He did not know that it was already behind him, somewhere back in that vast obscurity beyond the city, where the dark fields of the republic rolled on under the night. The “green light” that Gatsby chased and b elieved in just is an illusion, he just can’t figure out where is dream world and where is reality world, so he lost in his dreams. The sharp contrast between dream and reality not only explains Gatsby’sfailure at the end, it also explains the meaninglessness of that age. In a word, these contrasts provide the readers with a panorama of 1920s. The loss of the American dream reflects the corruption of people’s morality. As far as I am concerned, this story can serve as a reminder for us. To live a meaningful life, we should carefullychoose some dreams to pursue. And in the process of fulfilling our dreams, we should always be conscious about what we really desire. Anyhow, only by pursuing the proper dreams can we finally get to the happiness and success.Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, butthat’s no matter tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther….and one fine morning so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.。
林巧稚读后感英语作文After reading the novel, "The Great Gatsby," it's hard not to feel a mix of emotions. The story, set in the 1920s, is both captivating and tragic.看完小说《了不起的盖茨比》,情感无法平复。
这个设定在1920年代的故事既令人着迷又令人悲伤。
On one hand, there's the allure of the glamorous lifestyle depicted in the novel. The lavish parties, the opulent mansions, and the extravagant excess of the characters draw the reader into a world of decadence and indulgence.一方面,小说中描绘的迷人生活方式令人着迷。
小说中描绘的奢华派对、富丽堂皇的庄园以及人物的奢侈过度,让读者沉浸在一种颓废和放纵的世界中。
On the other hand, the novel also delves into the emptiness and moral decay that lie beneath the surface of this glittering façade. Thecharacters are shown to be disillusioned, dissatisfied, and ultimately, doomed by their own desires and the consequences of their actions.另一方面,小说也深入探讨了这种闪闪发光外表下的空虚和道德堕落。
英语书第30页海伦凯特的读后感300字English:After reading "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, I was struck by the themes of love, wealth, and the American Dream. The complex and ill-fated love story between Gatsby and Daisy, along with the extravagant parties and opulent lifestyle, revealed the destructive power of pursuing wealth and social status. The novel also offered a critique of the American Dream, suggesting that it is ultimately unattainable and a facade. The character of Gatsby, with his mysterious past and relentless pursuit of a dream that ultimately eluded him, left a lasting impression on me. Overall, the novel provoked deep reflection on the nature of love, the seductive allure of wealth, and the emptiness of the American Dream in the Roaring Twenties.中文翻译:读完了《了不起的盖茨比》后,我被小说中关于爱、财富和美国梦的主题所震撼。
My inspiration from this bookThe Great GatsbyWhen I first watched this movie ,I was hooked by the personality of the Gatsby .So ,I felt like reading the original novel .In this novel ,the humanity is complicated .The Gatsby is royal to the love ,what’s more ,the Daisy is selfish and material. So it is the same with his husband .The Nick is sympathetic ,which can infer from the ending of the novel .Nick and Gatsby’s father participated in the Gatsby’s federal .Meanwhile ,I hold that the role of Nick is very important to the novel .The whole novel writes in the angle of Nick .So ,the existence of the Nick is the clue of the novel . When Gatsby and Daisy was young ,they fell in love with each other .Maybe the love at that time is purity .However ,when Gatsby departed ,soon ,the Daisy married Tom .We can see from this ,the love between them is frail .In other words,in Daisy’s eye ,the money is the most important in the world .Due to the Tom ’s mistress ,she often felt empty in the spirit .So, the appearance of the Gatsby is agood thing to enrich her life .Meanwhile ,the Gatsby is not poor ,in the opposite ,he is rich now.Gatsby knew that Daisy betrayed their love ,but he loved her for to treat his emotion sanely .When he sensed that Daisy was not purity ,he needed to consider their relationship .Love sometimes can deceive our eyes.ever .So ,he held many parties to attract Daisy’s interest .Finally ,with the assistance of the Nick ,he met Daisy .He loved her just like when they were young. Also,he believed that they can repeat the past.He never forgot their old love, thinking that they should be husband and wife and live a happy life.
