After reading 《The great Gatsby 2》

My inspiration from this book

The Great Gatsby

When I first watched this movie ,I was hooked by the personality of the Gatsby .So ,I felt like reading the original novel .

In this novel ,the humanity is complicated .The Gatsby is royal to the love ,what’s more ,the Daisy is selfish and material. So it is the same with his husband .The Nick is sympathetic ,which can infer from the ending of the novel .Nick and Gatsby’s father participated in the Gatsby’s federal .Meanwhile ,I hold that the role of Nick is very important to the novel .The whole novel writes in the angle of Nick .So ,the existence of the Nick is the clue of the novel . When Gatsby and Daisy was young ,they fell in love with each other .Maybe the love at that time is purity .However ,when Gatsby departed ,soon ,the Daisy married Tom .We can see from this ,the love between them is frail .In other words,in Daisy’s eye ,the money is the most important in the world .Due to the Tom ’s mistress ,she often felt empty in the spirit .So, the appearance of the Gatsby is a

good thing to enrich her life .Meanwhile ,the Gatsby is not poor ,in the opposite ,he is rich now.

Gatsby knew that Daisy betrayed their love ,but he loved her for to treat his emotion sanely .When he sensed that Daisy was not purity ,he needed to consider their relationship .Love sometimes can deceive our eyes.ever .So ,he held many parties to attract Daisy’s interest .Finally ,with the assistance of the Nick ,he met Daisy .He loved her just like when they were young. Also,he believed that they can repeat the past.He never forgot their old love, thinking that they should be husband and wife and live a happy life. However ,when Gatsby and Daisy dated many times,he found Daisy was not purity ,but he still loved her .

One day ,Daisy was drunk ,she killed Tom’s mistress .Then ,she and Tom planned to put the crime to Gatsby .The mistress’s husband shot Gatsby ,Gatsby died .Afterwards ,Daisy traveled with Tom .Finally ,Nick backed to his hometown with a sad mood .

After finishing reading I longed up to the writer’s time .It was “Jazz Age”,for American ,It was the best of times,it was the worst of times .Gatsby was perfect ,he was willing to pay everything for her ,but he was pool ,so ,his fate was tragic .The

writer revealed the American’s dream to readers .A time that people can become rich overnight by non-moral means .A beautiful girl married a wealthy man just for money .So ,It was that society that killed the Gatsby .

At the end of the article ,Nick returned home .He saw the evil of

the humanity .Maybe ,It was the life of the American in that time .

In this novel ,I feel pity about Gatsby ,but I hold that he was

supposed to consider their relationship .Love sometimes can deceive our eyes. In my opinion, when we are confronted with love ,we need to be sane and rational .Meanwhile ,we also need to be responsible to ourselves and our family members. After Gatsby died ,his father must very hopeless .Nick was the kind person in the novel , he was the royal friend to Gatsby. In the end ,only Nick and his father attended the Gatsby’s funeral .It reminded us that we should make many real friend in our life .love is not the all part of our life ,we are supposed to look forward to the future . Also,wo ought to consider our family members.

The analysis of the main characters in the novel

Gatsby :childish ,be royal to the love ,be indulged in the illusion ,ignore the reality ,has responsibility ,live a luxury and dissipated life ,be genuine and honest to friends, the spiritual world is empty ,against the law .

Daisy :mammonist ,callous ,false ,the appearance is beautiful ,but the heart is ugly .

Tom : ruthless ,false ,wretched ,romantic ,selfish ,imperious Nick : be sincere and considerate to friends ,kind ,calm ,rational .

The appreciation of the wonderful sentences

1. ‘Whenever you feel like criticising anyone’he told me ,‘just remember that all the people in this word haven’t had the advantage that you have had ’.

In this sentence ,we can generally know the meaning of the novel .Also,we can guess the personality of the heroine .Gatsby

was bound to be a tolerant person .

2. And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees ,just as things grow in fast movies ,I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer .

In this paragraph ,the description of the scenery is very beautiful .Meanwhile ,I hold that it can imply the following plot .

3. Gatsby turned out all right at the end ,it is what preyed on Gatsby ,what foul(犯规的,邪恶的,污秽的)dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive (失败的,流产的)sorrows and short-winded elations(兴高采烈的,得意洋洋的)of men .

4. Life is much more successfully looked at from a single window ,after all .

In my opinion ,it expresses the tragedy of the novel .life is more successfully just from one side .so ,we can guess that the novel may be a tragedy .

5. I felt that I wanted the world to be in uniform and at a sort of moral attention for ever ;I wanted no more riotous(暴乱的,狂欢的,不受拘束的,放荡的)excursions(偏移,远足,

短程旅行)with privileged glimpses (一瞥)into the human heart .

From this phrase ,we can know the circumstances of the America was turbulent ,people even wanted to escape from it .It revealed the background of the novel .

6. Its vanished (消失的)trees ,the trees that had way for Gatsby’s house ,had once pandered (迎合,勾引,怂恿,拉皮条)in whispers to the last and greatest of all human dreams;for a transitory(短暂的,瞬息的)enhanced moment man must have held his breath in the presence of this continent ,compelled(迫使,强迫)into an aesthetic contemplation(沉思)he neither understood nor desired ,face to face for the last time in history with something commensurate (相称的,同样大小的)to his capacity for wonder .

From this paragraph ,we can know that the American Dream evaporated like the tree.It echos the theme of the novel.

7.He had come a long way to this blue lawn ,and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp

it .he did not know that it was already behind him ,somewhere back in that vast obscurity(朦胧,阴暗,晦涩,身份低微,不分明)beyond the city ,where the dark fields of the republic rolled on under the night.

In this sentence ,we can know that the Gatsby is tragic .His dream ,in fact ,would not be come true .

8. So we beat on ,boats against the current ,borne(忍受,负荷,结果实)back ceaselessly (不停地)into the past .

于是,我们奋力向前划,逆流向上的小舟,不停地倒退,进入过去。

1.HOW DAISY LEARNED TO HELP WLDLIFE(26页) Daisy had always longed to help endangered species of wildlife. One day she woke up and found a flying carpet by her bed. "Where do you want to go?" it asked. Daisy responded immediately. "I'd like to see some endangered wildlife," she said. "Please take me to a distant land where I can find the animal that gave fur to make this sweater." At once the carpet flew away and took her to Tibet. There Daisy saw an antelope looking sad. It said, "We're being killed for the wool beneath our stomachs. Our fur is being used to make sweaters for people like you. As a result, we are now an endangered species." At that Daisy cried, "I'm sorry I didn't know that. I wonder what is being done to help you. Flying carpet, please show me a place where there's some wildlife protection." The flying carpet travelled so fast that next minute they were in Zimbabwe. Daisy turned around and found that she was being watched by an elephant. "Have you come to take my photo?" it asked. In relief Daisy burst into laughter. "Don't laugh,”said the elephant, "We used to be an endangered species. Farmers hunted us without mercy. They said we destroyed their farms, and money from tourists only went to the large tour companies. So the government decided to help. They allowed tourists to hunt only a certain number of animals if they paid the farmers. Now the farmers are happy and our numbers are increasing. So good things are being done here to save local wildlife." Daisy smiled. "That's good news. It shows the importance of wildlife protection, but I'd like to help as the WWF suggests." The carpet rose again and almost at once they were in a thick rainforest. A monkey watched them as it rubbed itself. "What are you doing?" asked Daisy. ”I’m protecting myself from mosquitoes," it replied. "When I find a millipede insect, I rub it over my body. It contains a powerful drug which affects mosquitoes. You should pay more attention to the rainforest where I live and appreciate how the animals live together. No rainforest, no animals, no drugs." Daisy was amazed. "Flying carpet, please take me home so I can tell WWF and we can begin producing this new drug. Monkey, please come and help." The monkey agreed. The carpet flew home. As they landed, things began to disappear. Two minutes later everything had gone - the monkey, too. So Daisy was not able to make her new drug. But what an experience! She had learned so much! And there was always WWF… 第四单元

高中英语必修二unit5课文及听力原文

Unit 5 Music THE BAND THAT WASN'T(34 页) Have you ever wanted to be part of a band as a famous singer or musician? Have you ever dreamed of playing in front of thousands of people at a concert, at which everyone is clapping and appreciating your music? Do you sing karaoke and pretend you are a famous singer like Song Zuying or Liu Huan? To be honest, a lot of people attach great importance to becoming rich and famous. But just how do people form a band? Many musicians meet and form a band because they like to write and play their own music. They may start as a group of high-school students, for whom practicing their music in someone's house is the first step to fame. Sometimes they may play to passers-by in the street or subway so that they can earn some extra money for themselves or to pay for their instruments. Later they may give performances in pubs or clubs, for which they are paid in cash. Of course they hope to make records in a studio and sell millions of copies to become millionaires! However, there was one band that started in a different way. It was called the Monkees and began as a TV show. The musicians were to play jokes on each other as well as play music, most of which was based loosely on the Beatles. The TV organizers had planned to find four musicians who could act as well as sing. They put an advertisement in a newspaper looking for rock musicians, but they could only find one who was good enough. They had to use actors for the other three members of the band. As some of these actors could not sing well enough, they had to rely on other musicians to help them. So during the broadcasts they just pretended to sing. Anyhow their performances were humorous enough to be copied by other groups. They were so popular that their fans formed clubs in order to get more familiar with them. Each week on TV, the Monkees would play and sing songs written by other musicians. However, after a year or so in which they became more serious about their work, the Monkees started to play and sing their own songs like a real band. Then they produced their own records and started touring and playing their own music. In the USA they became even more popular than the Beatles and sold even more records. The band broke up about 1970, but happily they reunited in the mid-1980s. They produced a new record in 1996, with which they celebrated their former time as a real band.
