Justin Bieber used to be an ordinary Canadian boy, but his life totally changed in 2008. With his great musical talent, this seventeen-year-old boy has become a superstar in the music industry.
Justin Drew Bieber was born in 1994 in Stratford, Ontario and was raised by his single mother. Bieber learned to play musical instruments when he was very young. In 2007, he took part in a local singing competition in his hometown, and he did it just for fun. He never took singing lessons before but surprisingly he placed second in the competition. Then, with the help of his mother, he uploaded videos of him singing on a website and they successfully attracted the attention of thousands of viewers. His videos got popular through word of mouth and some of them have received up to 10,000,000 views.
Justin Bieber would have never gotten a career in the music business without his videos. It’s a sure sign that summer is over and winter is on the way — leaves that were once deep green turn red, yellow and bright orange. It happens every autumn. But did you ever wonder why?
The leaves start changing color when the nights start getting longer and the temperature starts getting cooler. Some scientists think that as the number of daylight hours shrinks, the leaves stop making chlorophyll which makes plants green. The reason is that the process of making chlorophyll requires sunlight. But according to horticulture (园艺) educator Susan Rose from Colorado State University, it turns out leaves don’t really change color at all. “The fall colors are actually there all along,”she said. “But they are covered by the green chlorophyll. As the chlorophyll stops being produced, the other colors can shine through.‖
The kind of color that the leaves are going to change to is determined by the plant’s genetic (基因的) background. In some places, the leaves start changing color in September —before autumn even officially begins. In other places, they don’t change until late October or even November. Some scientists say the leaves have been changing color later than usual in recent years. And they think global warming has something to do with that.
In one study, researchers found that the growing season in the Northern Hemisphere was nearly a week longer, on average, in 2008 than it was in 1982. And a professor from Harvard University found that the leaves, west of Boston, Massachusetts, are changing color about three days later than they used to. However, other scientists disagree with the global warming theory. Susan Rose said the leaves in her part of Colora do are changing ―right on schedule.‖ But the leaves in other parts of that state are running a little late. ―The lateness in the mountains may have something to do with the really warm late summer and early fall,‖ she said. ―But I’m afraid that’s just a gu ess.‖

A British dog-lover has invented a high-tech way of feeding his pet by Twitter( 推特，流行社交网络). Computer expert Nat Morris ,30, has designed a system to give his pet a “tweet treat”by sending him a Twitter message.
His dog Toby gets some delicious dog biscuits from a computer-controlled food machine whenever Nat sends a message to ―@ feedtoby‖.
Nat often works away from home and isn’t al ways able to feed Toby by hand. But his new
invention allows Nat to feed his dog from anywhere in the world.

When a message is sent to @ feedtoby, it is received by a mini –computer that is linked to the feed machine.
When the mini-computer receives the message, a bell rings and Toby comes running over and sits in front of the feeding machine. Next, the machine’s motor pulls open a trap door which releases a serving of food.
The doggy biscuits then drop into Toby’s food bowl. Finally a digital camera takes a photo of him and sends it back to Nat on Twitter -- so he knows Toby has been fed.

Water shortage in China is expected to reach the climax in 2030, when the country, with the population estimated at 1.6 billion, would have a per-capita (人均) share of water resource of 1,760 cubic (立方的) meters, according to the Ministry of Construction. China will meet the most serious water shortage soon. First, China’s current water resource is low. Next, water resource is rich in the south while poor in the north, besides pollution.
We could not live without water. In our daily life, we use water to cook, drink, wash and irrigate the fields. Besides, when there is a fire, we need to use water to put it out. In fact, we need water everywhere.
Then, what should we do about the water shortage problem? First, I think people should be made aware of the real situation about water shortage.
