Schools in the UK are cutting time spent on PE lessons because of exam pressures.Secondary school teachers said that older teenagers were especially likely to miss out, because the time spent on physical education for14-16-year-olds had fallen in the past five years.

Teachers said that increased pressure to produce exam results was leading to children being pulled out of PE lessons. One in three said exam pressures were behind the decline, and they said subjects such as English and Maths had been given more time at the cost of PE.

Almost all of the teachers from the487schools said PE should be more valued for its advantages to young people.Mental health experts also warned that cutting down on exercise could increase children's mental health problems.Cal Strode, spokesman for the Mental Health Foundation, said cutting PE time would be"short-sighted and dangerous".He said,"It is worrying to hear that PE is being cut at a time when students are facing problems with stress and anxiety in increasing numbers. There's a close relationship between mental and physical health."

Tom Madders, director of campaigns at charity Young Minds, said,"Schools'cutting down on physical education because of exam pressures is worrying.Schools that value health also do better in study,so it makes sense to keep good health, rather than putting children under more pressure."

Rising exam stress has been raised as a problem by experts who warn that children are under greater pressure because of a competitive jobs market.Ali Oliver,an expert, said,"The PE is good for physical and mental health. So cutting down physical education time is depriving young people of these advantages at a time when they need them most."

Most heroes are not super. They don’t appear in comic books,on television,or in movies. They just do what they believe needs to be done to make their world a better place.Bike Batman is one of them.Bike Batman is a30-year-old married engineer who lives in Seattle,Washington. He’s a cyclist who also buys and sells bikes as a hobby.

About three years ago,he was looking for a bike for his wife.He found one on Craigslist,a website where people list things they want to sell.As he often does,he also looked at Bike Index,a popular website that allows users to register their bikes and post reports when they’re taken. The bike, which he was considering buying, clearly matched one reported stolen on Bike Index. Then he called the person who claimed(声称)to be the bike’s owner and arranged(安排)to meet him—supposedly to complete the sale. When the two men met,Bike Batman told the thief,“You’ve got two options. You can wait until a police officer gets here,or you can just get out of here.”You can imagine what the thief did.

After that first success,Bike Batman developed safer steps. When he sees questionable bike ads on Craigslist,he compares the bikes with those reported on Bike Index.Once he has made sure about it with the owner,he arranges a meet-up with the thief and will call the Seattle police department so that officers can take part in the action. In more than half of the22cases in which he has got back and returned bikes, the thieves have been arrested(逮捕).

His nickname came from a discussion with a police officer who suggested he be called“Robin Hood”.Since he wasn’t exactly stealing from the rich and giving to the poor,“Batman”seemed more

suitable for him.The idea of a superhero punishing criminals feels pretty silly to him,but the main reason he continues his work is to keep up Seattle’s reputation as a friendly city.

D.Bike Batman began his good deeds by accident.

30.What will Bike Batman do first when he discovers a questionable bike?

A.To contact the owner of the stolen bike.

B.To surf the Internet for more information of the bike.

C.To call the police department immediately.

D.To arrange to meet the thief at once.

31.What kind of person do the underlined words“Robin Hood”in the last paragraph refer to?

A.A superhero who always punishes criminals.

B.A clever person who is good at buying and selling bikes.

C.A heroic person who likes robbing the rich to help the poor.

D.Someone who hates the rich and is friendly to the poor.

D

If you grew up watching the kid’s television channel Nickelodeon, you will probably understand that there is nothing greater than enjoying its special bright green slime(水晶泥).The week of May11, astronauts(宇航员)aboard the International Space Station(ISS)joined the slime.

Nickelodeon sent two kilos of its green slime into space in the summer of2019.The Slime in Space project’s idea was to create an educational trip for teachers to use in class. The green slime was also used to guide astronauts through a series of experiments that were designed to learn more about how slime acts in microgravity.

Researchers from Portland State University(PSU)were excited to design the experiments for the project.Mark Weislogel and his partner designed eight shows for NASA astronauts and European Space Agency astronaut aboard to perform.

If you’re wondering what we could hope to learn from sending slime into space, the answer lies in its very name.Slime is slimy. This is because it is a liquid that is thicker than liquids like water. This makes slime act in unexpected ways in the microgravity of the ISS.Improving our understanding of

how thicker liquids act in space may help us improve the design of systems that something were designed with Earth’s gravity in mind.

“Interestingly,we consider liquid on Earth as that takes the shape of its container,”Koch tells CNN.“Water just turns into a ball in microgravity,so we’ve had to have a new understanding of different kinds of matter in space. This experiment shows how microgravity can help us understand things on Earth, especially the things we take for granted.”

32.In paragraph one,Nickelodeon is mentioned.

A.to introduce the topic

B.to attract the kids

C.to make advertisements

D.to share a TV show

33.Why are the experiments with slime designed in space?

A.Because they get students interested in space.

B.Because they help us understand how slime acts in microgravity.

C.Because slime is popular with kids in the TV show.
