―Growing Pains‖ was on television from 1985 to 1992. This was a total of seven years, and it told over one hundred and sixty different stories. During its history, the show had seven producers and over forty writers.

The program was about a family of six who lived on Long Island near New Y ork. Their parents were a working couple. The father was a doctor and the mother was a journalist. They had four children. The oldest child was Mike. He was the major reason for the program’s huge success. Mike kept making trouble but was always charming.

From the first few episodes of ―Growing Pains‖ Mike was always getting into trouble. He was caught by the police for driving a car too fast. He told his parents that he would never ride a motorbike but then hurt himself riding one. But in the last series he helped a young boy who had no home and asked his family to help him care for and support the boy. Though breaking his promise disappointed his parents, the way he cared for this boy made them proud to have him as their son. These stories are good examples of the two sides of Mike’s nature. He was naughty but also a caring and warm person. He quickly became very popular. His face was in every teen magazine and teenage girls bought thousands of photos and posters of him to decorate their bedroom wall.

Perhaps another reason why the program was popular in America is that most of its stories were about ordinary family problems. Many of the people watching the program had the same problems. Like Mike’s parents, many parents who work often worry about their children and have difficult decisions to make about them.

Even now the show still appears on American TV sometimes. It was shown in other countries too, so it has now been enjoyed by people all over the world. What a great show!

2、教学目标分析 新课标提出了立体三维教学目标,本课我设计的教学目标如下: 1)知识目标: 熟悉本课的一些新单词和短语—outdoors, spellbound, entirely, go through, set down, a series of, on purpose, face to face, in order to,etc,语

Instead, many people turn to traditional healers (医疗者) when they are ill. These traditional healers, or witch doctors, sometimes have strange theories (学说) about how the body works. In West Bengal, for example, some people have long believed that getting bitten by a dog leads to the birth of little dogs. Dr Kumar Kanti Ghosh is a psychiatrist. He heard this belief when a nine-year-old boy came to his office about ten days after being bitten by a dog. He really couldn't believe his ears when he heard that. Kanti Ghosh sai d, “He believes that he had a little dog developing inside him. And his parents have said that sometimes the boy is barking like a dog.” A healer named Budheswar Singh says his medicine made of yogurt and herbs has cured many people. “If the man is brought to me in time, I can give him my medicine and he will be all right,” he said. Sanjay Samui is a medical doctor who wishes people would stop believing ideas like this. “They are poorly-educated village people. They still strongly believe such odd ideas,” he said. He tells everyone that in no situation can a dog be born by a human. The national government spends about one and a half percent of India's GDP on health care. This is among the lowest rates in the world. It means such traditional healers are the only choice in some places. The healers spread medical myths (神话) and even make villagers not believe doctors. 21.The example given in Paragraph 1 shows that ________. A.witch doctors' theories are based on scientific research B.nobody in India believes that a man can give birth to a dog C.witch doctors know very well about how the human body works D.some Indian people believe unusual theories told by witch doctors 解析:选D细节理解题。根据第一段的“In West Bengal, for example, some people have long believed that getting bitten by a dog leads to the birth of little dogs.” 22.When Dr Kumar Kanti Ghosh heard what the boy told him, he was________.
