Oggie watched him (22) through the pictures and finally replied, "You'll never get it if you don't (23)down, my friend. The pictures are all of the same (24), but each

I look closely enough, I know I'll see that each is (39). Each is sacred. And each holds a

special place in time.

Rocky Lyons was five years old when his mother, Kelly, was driving along the country road with him. He was asleep on the front seat of their truck, with his feet resting on her lap. As his mom drove carefully down the winding country road, she turned onto a narrow bridge. The truck hit a rock and slid off the road. She attempted to bring it back up onto the road by pressing hard on the gas pedal and turning the steering wheel to the left. But Rocky?s foot got caught between her leg and the steering wheel and she lost control of the truck.

The truck fell into a 20-foot ravine(峡谷). When it hit bottom, Rocky woke up. “What happened, Mama?” he asked. “Our wheels are pointing toward the sky.”

Kelly was seriously wounded and blinded by blood. “I?ll get you out, Mama,”announced Rocky, who had surprisingly escaped injury. He climbed out from under Kelly, slid through the open window and tried to yank his mother out. But she didn?t move.

“Just let me sleep,” begged Kelly, who was out of consciousness. Rocky insisted, “Mom, you can?t go to sleep.”

Rocky managed to push Kelly out of the truck and told her he?d climb up to the road and stop a car to get help. Fearing that no one would be able to see her little boy in the dark, Kelly refused to let him go alone. Instead they slowly moved up to the road. The pain was so great that Kelly wanted to give up, but Rocky wouldn?t let her.

Rocky kept repeating the inspirational phrase, “I know you can, I know you can.” When they finally reached the road, Rocky broke into tears seeing his mother?s torn face clearly for the first time. Waving his arms and shouting, “Please stop!” the boy stopped a truck. His mother was sent to hospital.

It took 8 hours to rebuild Kelly?s face. She looks quite different today---“I used to have a straight long nose, thin lips and high cheekbones; now I?ve got a flat cheeks and much bigger lips”--- but she has few scars and has recovered from her injuries.

Rocky?s heroics were big news. Everyone was surprised at this little boy?s power. “It?s not like I wanted it to happen,” The boy explained. “ I just did what anyone would have done.”“If it weren?t for Rocky, I?d have died,” said his mother.

Technology does not replace the need for good management. Without such management, technology can create more problems than it solves.

It's hard to resist the easy choice. Buy this customer relationship management (CRM) software, and you will efficiently and cost-effectively be able to manage your customer relationships. Buy this content management software, and you will be able to efficiently and cost-effectively manage your content.

Software does not manage. People manage. Software is a tool that can help you manage better, but it is not a manager. It is not strategic. Before you can manage customer relationships, you have to have relationships with your customers.

A person recently told me that their CRM software was great for sending lots to email offers and other marketing material to their customers. To them, this was what CRM was all about. It amazes me the amount of organizations out there that still believe that to create a better intranet(企业内部网) or public website, all they need to do is choose the right content management software. These organizations are not thinking about the quality and effectiveness of the content. They'll employ junior people to put up this content, and then a couple of years later they'll wonder where it all went wrong.

I've yet to meet an organization that has successfully implemented(实行)personalization either for their intranet or their public website. This is not because the concept of personalization is wrong. Properly implemented, it is a very sophisticated and powerful way to give customers what they want.

There are many reasons it fails miserably, however. One of them is that organizations feel

that all they need to do is install this fancy software, turn it on, and, hey presto, a wonderful website emerges. No need to worry about the quality of the content. No need to worry about how well it is structured and organized. The magic software looks after all that.

I once spoke with a consultant who told me about working with the British military. Years ago, if you were becoming an officer, you were sent on a course about managing your office. Part of the course involved learning how to manage your filing cabinet(档案橱).

Then computers came along and the course was scrapped. Think about it. A computer has at least 100 "filing cabinets". You need training in managing content far more if you have a computer. But you don't get it because of this irrational exuberance about what technology can do.

Modern organizations are not professionally managing their content. Senior management often abdicate responsibility. They think that the Web is a technology challenge that they can hand over to IT.

Content management will become one of the key management skills of the 21st century. That's because we live in a content-driven world.

51.If you own CRM, _________ .

A. your management will be carried out successfully and easily

B.CRM can create relationships with your customers

C. you still have to form good relationships with your customers at first.

D.CRM may carry out all the management without you

52. The main advantage of CRM lies in __________ .

A .getting easy access to the Internet

B. keeping a good relationship with customers

C. managing customer relationships and content

D. taking the place of the intranet and public websites

53.According to the text, we can infer that __________ .

A. some managers depend more on technology after they have owned it

B. some managers are working hard to learn how to use CRM software

C. CRM has been widely used in every field of the world

D.No managers have realized the value of CRM

54. What is the best title for the text?

A. CRM Means Good Management

B. Does Technology Make Managers Lazy?

C. One Can?t Have Good Management Without CRM

D. Modern Management and Senior Management

Many a young person tells me he wants to be a writer. I always encourage such people, but I also explain that there?s a big difference between “being a writer” and writing. In most cases these individuals are dreaming of wealth and fame, not the long hours alone at the typewriter. “You?ve got to want to write,” I say to them, “not want to be a writer.”

The reality is that writing is a lonely, private and poor-paying affair. For every writer kissed by fortune, there are thousands more whose dreams are never fulfilled. Even those who succeed often know long periods of neglect and poverty. I did.

When I left a 20-year career to become a writer, I had no prospects at all. What I did have

was my friend George who found me at my home---a storage room which was cold and had no bathroom,. Immediately I bought a used typewriter and felt like a real writer.

After a year or so, however, I still hadn?t received a break and began to doubt myself. It was so hard to sell a story that I barely made enough to eat. Then one day I got a call that changed my life. It wasn?t an agent or editor offering a big contract. It was the opposite---a call persuading me to give up my dream. On the phone was an old acquaintance. He had once lent me money. “When am I going to get the $15, Alex?” he asked.

“Next time I make a sale.”

“I have a better idea,”he said. “We need a new public-information assistant, and we?re paying $6,000 a year. If you want it, you can have it.”

Six thousand a year! That was real money in 1960. I could get a nice apartment, a used car, pay off debts and maybe save a little something. As the dollars were dancing in my head, something cleared my senses. I had dreamed of being a writer---full time. And that?s what I was going to be. “Thanks, but no,” I heard myself saying. “I?m going to stick it out and writer.”

Afterward, as I paced around my little room, I started to feel like a fool. Reaching into my cupboard, I pulled out all that was there: two cans of sardines. Putting my hands into my pocket, I came up with 18 cents. I took the cans and coins and jammed them into a paper bag. There Alex, I said to myself. There?s everything you?ve made of yourself so far.

I wish I could say things started getting better right away. But they didn?t. Thank goodness I had George to help me over the rough spots.

Through him I met other struggling artists, like Joe Delaney, a painter. Often Joe lacked food money, so he?d visit a neighborhood butcher who would give hin big bones with little meat. That?s all Joe needed to make down-home soup. Another village neighbor was a handsome young singer who ran a struggling restaurant. His name was Harry Belafonte. People like Delaney and Belafonte became role models for me. I learned that you had to make sacrifices and live creatively to keep working at your dreams.

As I absorbed the lesson, I gradually began to sell my articles. I was writing about what many people were talking about then: civil rights, black Americans and Africa. Soon, like birds flying south, my thoughts were drawn back to my childhood. One day at lunch with editors of Reader?s Digest, I said that I had a dream to trace my family?s history to the first African brought to these shores in chains. I left that lunch with a contract that would help support my research and writing for nine years.

Yet in 1970, Roots was published. Instantly I had the kind of fame and success that few writers ever experience. For the first time I had money; the phone rang all the time with new friends and deals. I packed up and moved to Los Angeles, where I could help in the making of the Roots TV mini-series. I was blinded by the light of my success.

Then one day, while unpacking, I came across a box filled with things I had owned years. Inside was a brown paper bag.

I opened it, and there were two sardine cans and 18 cents. Suddenly the past came flooding in.

I could picture myself once again writing in that cold, one-room apartment. And I said to myself: The things in this bag are part of my roots, too. I can?t ever forget that.

I sent them out to be framed in plastic. I keep that clear plastic case where I can see it every day. I can see it now above my office desk, along with prizes Roots won for me. I?d be hard pressed to say which means the most to me. But only one reminds me of the courage and

persistence it takes to stay the course.

A.Benefits of Studying Biological Clocks

B.Biological Clocks Controlling Birds Flying

C.Brain Cells Controlling Biological Clocks

D.Biological Clocks Controlling Activities

E.Out-of –Body Factors on Biological Clocks

F.Inside-Body Factors on Biological Clocks

61. __________________

Every living thing has what scientists call a biological clock that controls behavior. The biological clock tells plants when to form flowers and when the flowers should open. It tells insects when to leave the protective cocoon and fly away, and it tells animals and human beings when to eat ,sleep and wake.

62. __________________

Events outside the plant and animal affect the actions of some biological clocks. Scientists recently found, for example, that a tiny animal changes the color of its fur because of the number of hours of daylight. In the short days of winter, its fur becomes white. The fur becomes gray brown in color in the longer hours of daylight in summer.

63. __________________

Inner signals control other biological clocks. German scientists found that some kind of internal click seems to order birds to begin their long migration flights twice each year. Birds prevented from flying become restless when it is time for the trip, but they become calm again when the time of the flight has ended.

64. __________________

Scientists say they are beginning to learn which parts of the brain contain biological clocks. An American researcher, Martin Moorhead, said a small group of cells near the front of the brain seem to control the timing of some of our actions. These cells tell a person when to awaken, when to sleep and when to seek food. Scientists say there probably are other biological clock cells that control other body activities.

65. __________________

Dr. Moorhead is studying how our biological clocks affect the way we do our work. For example, most of us have great difficulty if we often change to different work hours. It can take many days for a human body to accept the major change in work hours. Dr. Moorhead said industrial officials should have a better understanding of biological clocks and how they affect workers. He said such understanding could cut sickness and accidents at work and would help increase a factory?s production.

One evening last summer, 11-year-old Owen and his mom put on white suits and taped their rain boots to their pant legs. Then they each grabbed a wooden pole with a large white cloth attached to it and started dragging the tools through the trees and grass in their Wisconsin backyard. They were looking for ticks(扁虱虫). Owen’s mom, Amy Prunuske, teaches microbiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Wausau. She studies diseases that ticks carry. Owen, though, is known as a citizen scientist. Citizen scientists are people—young or old—who help collect data for research projects. They usually aren’t professional scientists, or if they are, not in the field of the project. Still, their work can be incredibly important. Citizen scientists can help trained scientists gather data from all over the world—even from space. They can provide new ideas and new ways of thinking. Kids often make great citizen scientists because they tend to be curious and good at following precise directions. Sometimes they’re even better at these things than adults. And schools are convenient places for scientists to recruit big groups of helpers. As a bonus, citizen science often gets kids more excited about science. Citizen science takes advantage not just of many sets of eyeballs, but also of many minds. When professional European scientists in Austria were trying to find how best to encourage people to use less energy, they partnered with student citizen scientists. The adult scientists had a long list of questions for people about how much energy they used. Right away, the students noticed some problems the adults hadn’t thought of. There were too many questions, the kids said. And some of those questions were too complicated.
