1. neither用作形容词，表示“(两者)都不”，置于单数名词之前。
Neither article is made in Beijing. 这两种物品都不是北京制造的。
I will participate in neither game. 那两项比赛我都不参加。
We discussed neither subject.这两个问题我们都没有讨论。
Neither book was very interesting. 两本书都不是很有趣。
Neither watch works, they're both broken. 两只表都不走了，都坏了。
Truth lies on either side or on neither side. 要么两边都对，要么两边都错。Neither answer is right (or correct). 两个答案没有一个是对的。
提醒注意：在口语中以not... either...替换neither使用的情形也很多。例如：
They bought neither house. = They didn't buy either house. 两间房子他们都没买。
2. neither用作代词，表示“两者都不，双方均不”。例如：
He answered neither of the letters. 他两封信都没回。
She bought two toys, but neither can please the child. 她买了两个玩具，却没有一个能让小孩高兴。
—Which one would you like? 你喜欢哪一个？
—Neither. 两个都不喜欢。
此时，与neither用法较为接近的词是none，但none的含义略有不同，none 表示“(三者以上)所有的……都不”。例如：
None of us are perfect. 人无完人。
提醒注意：neither作主语时，通常被视为单数，但从意义上讲也可视为复数。
Neither of the cars was / were damaged. 两部车都没有受损。
3. neither用作连词，常用短语为neither...nor...，表示“既不……也不……”。例如：
Neither he nor I am well educated. 他和我都没受过良好教育。
I have neither time nor money. 我既没时间也没钱。
The novel is neither realistic nor poetic.那部小说既不写实也没有诗意。
提醒注意：①neither和nor后面接同一词性的单词或短语。
若将neither...nor...句型变为肯定句，只需把neither...nor...改为both...and...即可，同时谓语动词必须用复数形式。例如：
Both dad and mum are at home today. 今天父母都在家。
还可以单独使用neither作主语，表示"两者中没有一个"。例如：
Neither of them likes football. 他们俩都不喜欢足球。
②neither...nor...结构用作主语时，谓语动词必须与nor后面的名词或代词在人称及数上保持一致，即所谓的就近原则。
Neither he nor she was at home. 他和她都不在家。
Either my father or my brothers are coming. 不是我父亲就是我兄弟要来。
Neither dad nor mum is at home today. 今天父母都不在家。
Neither his friends nor he knows anything about driving. 她和她男朋友都不会开车
③在表示“既……也……”，即“两者都……”时，常用短语both...and...；表示“或者……或者……”(即二者选一)时，常用短语either...or...。
4. neither用作副词，作“也不”解释，放在句首，表示前面否定的内容也适用于另一个人或物，句子须采用部分倒装。此时也可用nor替换neither使用。
neither或nor还有另外一种用法，就是当表达一个人没有做某事，另一个人也没做同一类事时，可用neither或nor进行简略回答，其结构为：Neither / Nor+助动词 / 情态动词 / be动词+主语。例如：
He doesn\'t go to school by bike. Neither / Nor do I. 他不是骑自行车上学，我也不是。
They didn\'t go to the park yesterday. Neither / Nor did we. 昨天他们没去公园，我们也没去。
—I don't like this dress. 我不喜欢这件连衣裙。
—Neither / Nor do I. 我也不喜欢。
If you don't suppose the plan, neither / nor will I. 如果你不支持那项计划，我也不支持。
She doesn''t like Mozart,and neither do I. 她不喜欢莫扎特，我也不喜欢。
I know not, neither can I guess. 我不知道，也猜不到。
She cannot swim,neither can her sister. 她不会游泳，她的妹妹也不会。
If you do not go,neither will I. 你要是不去，我也不去。
She hasn''t made her study plan, neither has my brother. 她没有制订学习计划，我弟弟也一样。
