1.speak 强调单方的“说”或“讲”,一般用作不及物动词,要表示“对某人说(某事)”,可用 speak to [with] sb (about sth)。如:

Please speak more slowly.

I spoke to [with] the chairman about my idea.

2.talk 强调双方“交谈”,一般用作不及物动词,表示“同某人谈论(某事)”,可用talk to [with] sb (about sth)。如:

He was talking to [with] a friend.

What are they talking about?

Did you say anything (to him)?

He said (that) he wanted to go.

It is said that he is ill.

正:He is said to be ill.

I told him my name.

He told his parents the good news. / He told the good news to his parents.

Tell her to come at once.

He told the children not to play in the street.

I cannot tell which is which.

Can you tell true friends from false friends?

especially,specially,particularl

y

It is particularly [especially, specially] cold today.

I was feeling particularly [especially, specially] tired this evening.

I especially [particularly, specially] want to see that film.

We bought it specially [especially] for you.

I was asked specially to meet her.

The book is written especially [specially] for children.

We want to invite some friends, especially Jim and John.

He likes the country, especially in spring.

Noise is unpleasant, especially when you’re trying to sleep.

Two prisoners escaped last night.

The fish escaped from the net.

如(from .yywords.):

He escaped punishment.

The fact escaped my notice.

The burglars were frightened and fled.

The enemy soldiers were fleeing in all directions.

He fled (from) the burning house.

elder, eldest & older, oldest

He is older than me.

I’m two years older than he.

The cathedral is the oldest building in the city.

This is my eldest son (daughter).

His elder brother (sister) works in a clothing factory.

Jim is my eldest.

I’m the eldest in the family.

He was the elder of the two sons.

He is my elder by two years. / He is two years older than I. 他比我大两岁。

Easier said than done.

Stand easy! (比 stand at ease 更随便)

go easy 省点劲儿,别那么卖力(from .yywords.)

go easy on (with) sb (sth)

I can easily finish the work.

She is easily the cleverest girl in the class.

That could easily be the answer we’re looking for.

earth,world,globe

The earth goes around the sun.

The plane fell to (the) earth.

Please fill the hole with earth.

He travelled all over the world.

The whole world is hoping (that) there will be a lasting peace.

They came from every corner of the globe.

We use a globe in our geography lessons.

This is the longest river on earth [in the world].

What on earth [in the world] do you need?

I have no friend on earth [in the world] to rely upon.

I’ll be on holiday in [during] August.

He woke up three times in [during] the night.

Many people suffered hardship during the war.

He was injured in the war.

I went to see my aunt during my stay in Beijing.

During the summer we camped in the forest.

I think, I hope, I guess, I believe, I suppose, I wonder, I tell you, I say, I'm afraid, I'm sure, you see, you know, as you know, that is, that is to say, what's more等等,它们可以置于句中或句尾。如: I suggest you choose someone who you think is kind and friendly. This diet, I think, will do good to your health. It won't be raining long, I hope. You will have to work harder, you know, if you want to succeed. 2. Happily for him, his father's second wife was kind to him too. You'll be able to pass the coming exam, surely. Luckily for him, he didn't hurt in the accident.
