三、阅读理解(每题4分,总分40分)

Passage A

Television is a great attraction of modern times and a natural feature of modern living.

As we know, television has several advantages. In the first place it is a great instructor. Films, especially documentary ones, which show us great events and conditions in other parts of the world, greatly increase our general knowledge. Great events like man’s exploration of the moon can be telecast. So too, can live performances of great stars be screened.

In pre-internet time, television had a great importance as a medium of instruction. Children and students found it easier to learn the lessons that were viewed over TV because they could actually see the thing working and hear it at the same time. It was always increasing their store of knowledge through special programs. Television was used to instruct the student masses in many schools or universities, and is still used in such places as the Chinese RTVU, and the British OU.

Television is also of great importance in marketing. This means the screening of advertisements before and after programs. These advertisements serve to provide information of goods and services. Commercial television helps cut down the cost of television charges.

Television serves for delight, and TV entertainment makes a cultural industry of today. People, after a day’s hard work, can sit back in comfort and enjoy themselves with their facorite programs.

Television, however, has a few disadvantages. Watching television too much is harmful. It adds much to the labor of the eye, and little to the activity of the body. People prefer to watch a football game, for instance, rather than play in. Some even give up their previous bobbies, like gardening, stamp-collecting and fishing to the idiot box. School children who spend too much time watching television forget their studies and waste much time.

There should be proper discipline in watching television. Television is a valuable asset to man only when wisely used.

46. Television is of modern times.

A. a great advance

B. a great attraction

C. a great progress

D. a great revolution

47. Documentary films can greatly increase __________.

A. our knowledge of English

B. our general knowledge

C. information of services

D. the cost of television charges

48. Children and students find it easier to learn the lessons _________.

A. that are taught by the teachers

B. that are taught by their parents

C. that are viewed over TV

D. that are learned by themselves

49. The cost of television charges can be cut down with the help of ___________.

A. cable television

B. educational television

C. closed-circuit television

D. commercial television

50. If you spend too much time watching TV, it may ___________.

A. cause harm to you

B. benefit you a lot

C. offer you many chances to see your friends

D. offer you many chances to study

Passage B

“The more you learn, the more you earn,” said Cyndi Lauper, the pop singer, as she accepted her high school diploma(毕业证书) at the age of thirty-five! Cyndi made it without a high school degree, but most people don't. In the U. S. A. today, about seventy-five percent of jobs require some education or technical training beyond high school degrees. College graduates out earn (比……赚得多)those without a college education; people with master's degrees out earn those with only bachelor's; and the highest incomes of all are earned by people with advanced degrees. However, more diplomas don't always mean more money. Many skilled blue-collar workers, salespeople and businessmen out earn professors and scientific researchers. And great athletes and entertainers out earn everyone else!

A college education is preparation not only for a career, but also for life. In addition to the courses in their major field of study, most students have time to take extra courses in other areas. They may take classes that help them understand more about human nature, government, society, the arts, sciences, or whatever else interests them.

Going to college, either full-time or part-time, is naturally becoming the next step after high school. More than half of American high school graduates enroll(登记)in college. But recent high school graduates are no longer dominating the college campuses. It is quite common for adults of all ages to come back to college either for career advancement or personal growth. By 1992, about half of all American college students were over thirty-five.

In the U. S. A., a college education is not viewed as a privilege (特权) reserved for the wealthy or the talented. College education is open to almost everyone who wants it. We are in the time of life-long education and open education.

51.The sentence " most people don't " (paragraph 1) means most people don't _________.

A. want to be a singer

B. go to high school

C. want to get a high school diploma

D. make much money without a high school degree

52.According to the text, who earn the most? __________

A. Professor

B. Scientific researchers

C. Great athletes and entertainers

D. Blue-collar workers

53.Generally speaking, which of the following is true? __________

A. The less out learn, the more you earn

B. People with doctor's degrees usually earn more than those with a bachelor's degree

C. More diplomas necessarily mean more money

D. The highest incomes are earned by people without much education

54.According to the author , why do people go to college? _________

A. To make preparations for a career

B. To make preparations for life

C. To make friends

D. Both A and B

55.In America, college students consist of _________.

Chapter Five International Trade I Eye contact In the US, UK and much of northern Europe, strong, direct eye contact conveys confidence and sincerity. In South America it is a sign of trustworthiness. However, in some cultures such as the Japanese, prolonged eye contact is considered rude and is generally avoided. Personal space and touch In Europe and North America, business people will usually leave a certain amount of distance between themselves when interacting. Touching only takes place between friends. In South America or the Middle East, business people are tactile and like to get up close. In Japan or China, it is not uncommon for people to leave a gap of four feet when conversing. Touching only takes place between close friends and family members. Time Western societies are very clock conscious.. Time is money and punctuality is crucial. This is also the case in countries such as Japan or China where being late would be taken as an insult. However, in South America, southern Europe and the Middle East, being on time for a meeting does not carry the same sense of urgency. Meeting and greeting Most international business people meet with a handshake. In some countries, this is not appropriate between genders. Some may view a weak handshake as sign of weakness whereas others would perceive a firm handshake as aggressive. How should people be addressed? Is it by first name, surname or title? Is small talk part of the proceedings or not? Gift giving

新剑桥商务英语高级习题答案

新剑桥商务英语高级习题 答案 Last revision date: 13 December 2020.

English for Business Studies Key to Unit 01: The three sectors of the economy This unit covers a lot of basic vocabulary concerning developed economies much of it in an extract from a well-known British novel. It also discusses the evolution of the economy of most of the older industrialized countries, with the decline of manufacturing industry and its replacement by services. There is an extract from a magazine interview with an economist and an interview with a British Member of Parliament on this issue. 1a Vocabulary p09 Identify the most prominent features in this photograph, which illustrates various important elements of the infrastructure of a modern industrialized country. The photo clearly shows a large factory (the Unilever factory in Warrington, England) in the center, with more factories, industrial units, or warehouses in the top right-hand corner. The large factory seems to include some office buildings. Also visible are agricultural land (in the background; the land in the foreground doesn’t appear to be cultivated), a river, a railway and several roads, and housing, perhaps with a school in the center of the housing estate top left. 1b Reading p10 What is the key point that this extract is making about economies? The text suggests that most people take for granted the amazing complexity of the economic infrastructure. 1c Comprehension p11 lines 4-7, Robyn sees examples of all three. What are they? Tiny fields (the primary sector), factories (the secondary sector), and railways, motorways, shops, offices, and schools (the tertiary sector). long sentence from lines 12-28 lists a large number of operations belonging to the different sectors of the economy. Classify the 18 activities from the passage Primary sector: digging iron ore, mining coal. Secondary sector: assembling, building, cutting metal, laying cables, milling metal, smelting iron, welding metal. Tertiary sector: advertising products, calculating prices, distributing added value, maintenance, marketing products, packaging products, pumping oil, transportation. you think of three important activities to add to each list (not necessarily in relation to the kettle) Primary sector: farming (agriculture), fishing and forestry Secondary sector: manufacturing, transforming and processing Tertiary sector: financing, designing, retailing

Part III Reading comprehension Passage 1 Richard Brasher, commercial director of Tesco?s non-food operations, is in the frame for the top job at Boots, where chief executive Steve Russell is to step down. Brasher is understood to be on a shortlist that includes Stuart Rose, the former boss of retailing group Arcadia, the Terry Duddy, chief executive of catalogue retailer Argos. Brasher is viewed as a high-flier within Tesco and is highly rated by the group?s chief executive, Terry Leahy.

1)Base \basis On the basis of\be based on\customer base\manufacture base\skill base\use base其他情况使
