Recently I’m taking part in a practical program for us students to start our own business. After careful consideration of basic characteristics of modern society and current book market, I’ve decided that an online book store will be a much better choice than a physical one.

The most distinguished power in this century surely lies in Internet technology, which we can easily tell from the overall popularity of online shopping across the world. Seizing the trading platform the Internet has built to do book sales, I can better cater to the fast-paced life of modern people. Speedy delivery of the ordered books will better satisfy book lovers’ demands, while the convenience online bookstores bring about without them leaving their homes is beyond words.

Some may say the failure to let people have a specific idea of what they are buying is a deadly weakness of online shopping. However, for online bookstores, we can scan the contents of the books and upload them, allowing people to have a preview of the books before they willingly purchase them, thus stimulating my business.

Apart from the potential profits, it shall also be a responsibility for all book sellers to promote the popularity of traditional printed books over e-books in such an age where they’re threatening to take over traditional ways of reading. And only by providing easier access to books can we make it. Online bookstores will see to it.

In a word, an online bookstore means a more satisfactory experience to customers, richer profits to book sellers, and a brighter future to traditional printed books. Therefore, I favor opening an online book store over a physical one.

——胡嘉年

It is the spring of electronic commerce; it was the autumn of physical stores, especially bookstores. While buying online has become a trend because of its one-click convenience, physical bookstores are facing the likelihood of being closed.

If I can start a career by opening a bookstore, my alternative will always be a physical one, for it has the features that an electronic one will never have.

Personally speaking, with the space and peace of a physical bookstore, everyone can lose themselves in books. In addition, chances are that different people with similar taste or interest will be encountered and it will make it possible to make friends with different people just because of books.

Commercially speaking, a physical bookstore provides customers opportunities to buy books after selecting carefully by comparison or previewing the content, and to take them right away with less books you will regret buying. Therefore, it also will eliminate your possible anxiety of waiting for your orders if you shop online.

Socially speaking, physical bookstores play a vital role in promoting academic atmosphere. In Japan, there’s an old street famous for centenary bookstores and its academic atmosphere, which help all nations to form the good habit of reading.

In the Shakespeare & Co. in Paris, a sign reads that, “Passing passengers! You do not know how longingly I look upon you.” Bookstores and readers need each other, and maybe that’s why many physical bookstores are struggling in the “invasion” of online ones. As for me, I’d like to open a brick-and mortar one.

Origin:This has the feel of a Shakespearian or Biblical phrase, but it isn't as old as it sounds. There are several forms of it: 'out of the blue', 'a bolt out of the blue', etc. The earliest citation is Thomas Carlyle, in The French Revolution, 1837: "Arrestment, sudden really as a bolt out of the Blue, has hit strange victims." That is his Achilles' heel. 约翰因出身卑贱而自惭形秽,这是他的致命弱点。 Every atom of your flesh is as dear to me as my own; in pain and sickness it would still be dear. 在我看来,你身上的每一个细胞都像我自己的细胞一样亲,即使你痛苦你有病,也还是一样亲。 I'll play old Gooseberry with the office, and make you glad to buy me out at a good high figure. 我要在工作上故意捣蛋,使你不得不付出高价收买我。 play gooseberry (British humorous) to be with two people who are having a romantic relationship and who would prefer to be alone. “Best be off to bed, my boy ─ ho, ho!”“No, no.
